Bought a growler at the Farmer's Market. Was really happy with the seasonal selection. I love what they are doing with their menu. I think it costs 14 bucks and I get 4 dollars towards my next one as a bottle deposit. Can't knock it for take-home seasonal brews. read more

Walked in on a Saturday afternoon and was amazed at the open-air space they had to enjoy beers in! Despite the giant fan circulating air, we opted to crawl into the smaller albeit cooler bar area and enjoy our drinks there. After making the hard decision of which beers to get in a flight, I have to say they were all great! I don't think I was able to find one I didn't enjoy and as everyone else I was with also got a flight, there wasn't a negative thing said about any of the beers they had on tap at the time. Super friendly bar tenders and great vibes overall. My only regret was not purchasing one of their tshirts! It'll definitely be on my list next time I'm in NC. read more

I really enjoyed this brewery! Large open space with plenty of seating make it a great meet-up/hangout spot. The beers all sound intriguing and are tasty as well. They also have a huge selection of board games, one of which was still unopened and in its plastic wrapping! Oh and they have a ping pong table! The only thing I didn't like was the ENORMOUS fan by the entrance, it's just too much. I wanted to play ping-pong and chill by that area but couldn't tolerate the fan! read more

Great beer. So that's good. I typically lean towards the hops, so if you're the same, go with the Rocket Science. BUT! If you're feeling boozy, branch that beer belly out and give the Sweet Potato Lager a sip. My personal fav of the evening. This was my first time here, but my local bud said she often comes to work. Weird, but makes sense. The big warehouse is stacked with tables and relatively quiet. Who doesn't love a cold beer with their emails? Staff is knowledgable and very friendly! read more

This awesome brewery serves up a great selection of beers in a cool setting, just a short walk from downtown Durham. Their Rocket Science IPA and Cack-a-lacky Pale Ale are two of the best brews in North Carolina, and the Carver Pumpkin beer was the perfect selection on the chilly winter evening I dropped by. Try a flight if you're overwhelmed by the extensive selection, or ask one of the friendly staff to recommend a beer that suits your palate. Either way, you can't go wrong. There's no food on the menu, but a food truck was outside both nights I visited, and there's a great selection of local restaurants along the same block. The brewery boasts a small arcade, some game tables, and a music stage, making it a great spot to meet up with friends, or to just pop in on your own to sample some of the Triangle's finest beer. read more

This is a nice place to hang out with some friends and a round of drinks, or to watch the game. I am not much of a beer drinker but they do seem to have a nice selection of beer. I tend to get mostly get either ciders, wine or soda of which there is a smaller selection (as would be expected). Regardless, it is not too pricey to get a drink here. I have come here several times with co-workers, friends and family and it is just a low key place to chill out. You can play pool if the table is open or just sit at an indoor or outdoor bench. If you want food, one or two food trucks are often outside in the evening. I came here once to watch a Superbowl and they have a decent TV to watch it on. read more

Favorite brewery in town. Their food is meh but their beer is phenomenal. They always have so many interesting ones. Love the their pale ale, IPAs, seasonal beers and the ones that are infused with basil. Do yourself a favor and give it a try! If you're hungry, go across the steer to Motorco. Their food is surprisingly delicious. read more

Cool place. It's huge, with lots of space, plenty of seating and games a-plenty. My beer was just okay, the Hickory Smoked Brown Porter. I only now discovered it was a porter, because I'm pretty sure the draft list just had it as a brown, and there's a difference. No big deal, but come to think of it I found the menu on the wall a bit confusing and just picked what I did because the bartender seemed anxious to take my order, though not forthcoming with any guidance. I really couldn't tell if what was listed was the in-house stuff or if it included all the guest drafts. Could be clearer. I like that they focus on local ingredients where they can and they've created a great place to hang out and drink beer. For that I'll give them four stars. My beer wasn't a four-star beer, but I only had the one, so I'll give them the benefit. read more

Fullsteam is a great place to stop in for a pint. Primarily they serve their own beer, but will also typically have a couple guest taps of other local deliciousness. It's a great location, next door to The Pit (awesome barbeque) and across the street from Motorco, just outside downtown Durham. Overall it has a faint industrial vibe, lots of great space and is a nice place to hang out. They do offer a few games like cornhole just outside the bar. I'm partial to their Rocket Science, which is a really nice IPA. I believe they term it an American IPA, but it has a great hop character, subtle malt flavor and a great body. Parking is on the street, so that's a bummer since there are two other very popular businesses nearby. read more

Went there Saturday night and thought it was great. Enjoyed the beer and a fun country / jazz / rock band. Seating is a little disappointing with just picnic tables, so it's not real comfortable for long, but there is also a bar with stools. I thought the variety of beer, the casual ambiance and the rocking good music made this a really fun place to go. They are a craft beer brewer so they offer lots of varieties to appeal to different tastes. I stuck with the "Workiing Man's" variety that was semi-dark with a chocolate overtone, and an intentional banana flavor as well - it was very smooth and not a bad batch, but complimented the overall flavor really well. There were also food trucks outside to provide a great assortment of foods. We had Klouze's Pizza and Churba Churba pork filled dumplings, and Big City Sandwich and one or two other trucks were there. Oh, we also enjoyed some cupcakes from Staceys Sweet Cakes that were really good as well. The area seems pretty awesome for the 21 to 31 crowd with other venues across the street that were attracting lots of people as well. (I wanted to add though that people of all ages were there, and everyone fit in well, so don't be shy!) read more

one of the things I miss most about the Triangle is all of the breweries. This is one of the best. Yeah, it's out in Durham ( I was a Raleigh girl), but if you're in town for a Bulls game, pop on in. Some of their beers are not my favorites, but I do have a few that I love: the Summer BAsil and the Working Man's Lunch are great with the Cackalacky as a third choice. The atmosphere is great, ping pong tables, a jukebox, food trucks outside, etc. There are usually a bunch of small children running around, which annoys me, but doesn't make me avoid it. You can get growlers (of most beers), pints, or half pints if you want to hop around the selection, as well as a flight as well. read more

We were visiting Brandon's family in Durham last week and we found this Brewery on Yelp! We were all pretty impressed! There was tons of stuff to do while you were there, they had all sorts of games and activities. The brewery was nice and open and there was tons of space for sitting, chilling, playing games or just standing around. A lot of breweries are sort of small and crowded but not this one. There was also a food truck right outside I'm not sure if it changes or if it is always the same but it was pizza and you could bring it inside to eat while you drink! They had cider so i was happy or course and Brandon and his family enjoyed the beer! There was a quite a variety of beers on tap which was nice, lots of choices! We would recommend stopping here for sure if you are in the area! read more

Fullsteam - Lots on tap! Great spot to check out! - Beer Bar Near Me - Durham, North Carolina

Flight of 5 beers is only $9 and well worth it! Visiting from California it was good to have beer other than IPAs and it was a good spot for that. Dark beers were smooth with notes of caramel and coffee. The hoppy beers and the seasonal Rye Pale Ale had fantastic floral and citrus notes. And, on top of all that they played Ska music! Amazing experience. read more

Awesome brewery and hangout spot in downtown Durham. They only serve their beer, but this still makes for a big selection of awesome beers from plain lagers, to some far out there ones with ingredients like basil, chocolate, and jalapenos There is plenty of seating outside and in..corn hole, foosball, and quite a few other games are also available. Food trucks are often parked out front, which you are allowed to bring inside, as they only offer a very limited list of snacks. read more

Great beer. Get a flight, the bartenders are great at suggesting beers to try and which order to drink them in. The place as tons of old arcade games, board games, occasional music and even yoga sometimes. read more

Fullsteam IPA is my favorite IPA right now. I'm not an expert on the topic, but DANG dude. I make a point to go in and have 1 or 2 every time I catch a show at Motorco across the street. I work at a studio around the corner and love how this neighborhood is turning into the renovated warehouse hot spot! When my hometown friends visit from Boston, this is a must see brewery. Love that they have snacks some nights too. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because they should have nicer tables. the array of picnic benches is a little too outdoorsy for my taste, but not a big deal. It's all about good beer, great people and ping pong. and i see they added darts recently. good call. read more

Fullsteam is one of my favorite places in Durham. When I first came to Durham, I was a bit dismayed at the limited number of craft breweries in the city. Sure, there are a good number in the region, but not very many in Durham itself. A few trips to Fullsteam, and I've forgotten this gripe entirely! Not only does Fullsteam have a variety of fantastic beers they make themselves, but they are kind enough to bring many great beers from all over North Carolina for Durhamites to enjoy without a long drive! I thoroughly enjoyed the IPA offerings a few month back, when they had more than a dozen IPAs from around NC all on tap at once! This is totally unexpected at a brewery, and a very nice addition. Fullsteam's beer is top notch. I haven't had one I didn't like so far. The Rocket Science IPA is a good one (I'm a sucker for an IPA), and the focus on southern-style beer is certainly appreciated. In addition to the great Fullsteam beer, and great other NC craft beers, Fullsteam is in a great location and offers lots of great events. I've come to play darts (always fun), and am itching to try trivia. The Wednesday night running group with Bull City Running Company is a great event as well. All around, Fullsteam is a great local brewery building community around beer, but also , it seems, just for the sake of community. read more

Excellent beer, and even better atmosphere. Feel free to bring your dog, food, and attitude. I love this place for its low key, casual appearance and high spirit people. Always enjoy my time here and recommend anyone to visit. read more

Great big bar space for all sorts of people. I'm a big fan of the mega fan blowing cool air at me while I gracefully play ping pong. It was trivia night and it was rowdy but I'm grateful that the bar is in a separate room and even more impressed that the beers have IBU ratings listed so I don't have to choose these unfamiliar local offerings blindly. read more

What you want in a brewery experience. We sat at the bar because it was just too darn hot to sit in the seating area - though it was a spacious area with picnic tables. Great place for family and friends to hang and play games. At the bar the bartenders were friendly and engaging. We brought in food from the food truck which was outstanding. Working Mans Nudge was one of the best browns I've had in a while. My husband enjoyed Catalyst IPA. read more

The good-looking bar was just filling up Saturday night when I stopped at Fullsteam Brewery to try various beers - all excellent. Started with a Belgian-style wit brewed with some local honey and pepper - balanced and refreshing. "Balanced" is one adjective that holds for all the beers here, even seasonal brews that use more outlandish ingredients. Service is friendly, prices moderate, the atmosphere relaxed. Excellent all-around! I like that patrons can go to food-trucks outside and come back with (in my case) excellent Taiwanese style dumplings, or Indian food. read more

Great time at Fullsteam Brewery on Friday night. Arrived around 1030pm and grabbed three seats at the bar. The space is huge with several different rooms. There is plenty of seating all throughout the space and an area for playing darts. I liked the layout because even though it was a large space, it didn't feel so as the rooms were separated by doors or walls. Service was quick at the crowded bar. I ordered the Summer Basil and E got the Cack-A-Lacky. Both were light beers with good flavor. The Summer Basil could have been a little heavier on the basil (but I love basil). The Cack-A-Lacky had a really nice, fresh ginger taste. Will definitely stop by when we're back in town again! read more

The atmosphere and location of Fullsteam are excellent, 5 stars. I like the open setup and games. It is always a fun crowd. There are often good food trucks outside. Overall a place that I enjoy going with friends. (I also really like their logo) Unfortunately, I don't like the beer that they brew. I like the idea that they experiment with different flavors and ingredients, however they miss the mark on taste too frequently for me to enjoy drinking their beer... actually lately when I go, I order guest beers or ciders as I've just had too many beers there that favor quirky ingredients over delicious flavor. read more

This is my second failed attempt to get a beer here. It seems like it would be a great place to hang out and have a beer or a taster flight, but it was packed both times I visited, and we could not get close to the bar to get a beer. After 20 minutes of waiting, we went to Tyler's instead. On our prior trip, we went to the Surf Club up the street -- much more casual environment. As such, I can't comment on the beer. But I can definitely speak to the service, and . . . well, . . . . I've experienced better. read more

Full Steam is situated in my favorite area of downtown Durham. I love the old buildings, the restaurants that surround Full Steam, and most importantly: I like Full Steam, a lot. I come here on week nights to grab a brew by myself or with friends. It always has a good vibe and friendly people. I will say though, there is a guy that bartends named Elliot; he is an older guy seems very knowledgeable about beer. He is often a bit rude. He doesn't greet you with "hello" rather it's "what do you want?" I have often told him "thank you" when receiving beer, paying my bill, etc. and he never responds and just walks off. It's rude. Of all the guys bartending there, he also gets visibly pissed when people ask to sample beers. He gives a micro sip of the beer slams it on the bar and walks away; This hasn't happened to me (I always know what I want) but I have seen him do it to newcomers many many times. It's sad that his bad attitude or poor approach to customer service is running new business away.. Anyway, I do love the beer here. I love the atmosphere. All of the other bartenders are EXCELLENT! Shy away from the tall grey-haired dude named Elliot though. He isn't eager to help you. read more

I like how the brewery has separate bar and cafeteria style lounge, with bright light and big screen tv to watch the games, and a stage for entertainment. I didn't dine in there, but the food looks decent from tables next to us. It's good place to chill out and play games for afternoon drinking. read more

Great relaxed vibe it. live music on Sunday evenings. They have boardgames and trivia nights. I don't love beer but love coming here. They also have wine and Boulanger brand sodas that are delicious for those of us that still don't like beer... oops. But my husband and friends love their beer! They also have some food options as well. Highly recommend you check this place out! read more

I ate here earlier today for lunch and also had a few of their beers. Fast and friendly service and very clean. The Paycheck Pilsner was light & crisp and the bbq sandwich was spot on. They also ship their beers directly to your door here in NC. Definitely will be back again. read more

This is the second time I have been to Fullsteam, and I continue to enjoy coming! There are lots of long tables so you can enjoy coming with larger groups of people, and I love that there are games available. The beer was super tasty, I especially enjoyed the Rocket Science IPA. read more

This place has the perfect atmosphere for an adventurous family. Board games and plenty of space for the kids - lots of great beers for the parents. The staff and even the other patrons were super friendly. There was a food truck out front serving pizza and related sides. It sounds like this is a typical set-up, which is a perfect food option for the overall atmosphere. The space is open with a sitting area segregated from the bar area. There was also a game area that included a Ping pong table. Overall Fullsteam comes highly recommended with or without kids. read more

Great vibes and good beer. They take risks with some funky beers which I always enjoy trying. The also ate dog friendly, which is a huge plus for me. Great spot to hang outside at the picnic tables and play cards with friends or jus relax. It is also in a great spot, where there are other bars to walk to. My usual spot when going out for a night in Durham. read more

I was here on Saturday night, did not stay for "Zombie Prom," but it looked like it was going to be quite a fun event. I loved the space itself -- like walking into a German beer hall. People bring their dogs (and are allowed since Fullsteam does not serve food). We sat at the bar, however, and the staff could not have been better. My drinking companion and I both ordered the IGOR bourbon barrel-aged imperial stout. I do not know if I have ever been more impressed upon tasting a beer. I do not usually think of beer as having layers of flavor, but this one did just that. I had two, but I would have had a growler full of that stuff. I have already penciled in a return trip to Fullsteam next time I am in Durham. read more

This place is so much fun! Have only been here once and it was a dreary rainy day out..that didn't stop people from going in to socialize, have a pint and play some board games! I am a huge dog lover and absolutely love the fact that this place is dog-friendly. I would take mine with me but he gets scared so easily that it would end up being traumatic for him..so I just love on everyone else's! Hah! The idea of Fullsteam is really neat and definitely different from any other place I've been to. Instead of just having trivia nights, they have games that you can pull out and play whenever you would like, movies that screen, and an area for music. The atmosphere is great and everyone is friendly! I also really liked some of the different beers they had on tap! Some of them are so unique! Definitely make a stop here if you can! read more

Love Fullsteam, love what they've done for the community. However, food really misses the mark. We had several items....deviled eggs, Spicy pimento cheese, blue crab fritters, smoked frankfurter. Deviled eggs tasted like butter, not in a good way. Pimento cheese was not spicy (as advertised) and had a weird texture. Crab fritters were good, only thing I would order again. Smoked frankfurter was nothing more than a $6 hotdog. Beer is still good although missing the beers that made them a staple and prices have been raised, probably to fit the new clientele in the neighborhood. Long story short, trying to be to fancy. read more

This spot is super cool. It has high ceilings and is quite spacious with plenty of seating. The ambience is rustic and industrial. The decor has lots of character.
