Let's kick off 2024 with one of the newer beer bars, Proximity Brewing Co.! Located over in E. Durham, this black-owned business sits on the corner of Driver and E. Peabody in the same block as Mike D's BBQ. Mod and cozy at the same time, there's a main beer bar and 4-top seating in front, primarily in blacks and white with a back lounge area with comfortable couches. Proximity is primarily doing guest beers right now, I'm guessing they still need to spin up their brewing operations! 14 options on the draft list at about $7 a pint. Overall I like the space and what they're trying to do, the main challenge will be parking since there's very little street-side and pretty sure you'll have to hoof it over to this location. Overall a cool spot that's worth the walk...

    Very cool lounge area

New black-owned brewery with a parking lot and relaxing vibe. They have a few of their own beers and lots of other minority owed beers, wines, and liquors to try. Service was friendly and prompt.

Local bourbon with an impressive ice cube!

We have many breweries closer to home but we drive 30 minutes out of our way for the pizza. I always tip them well even though they don't serve you. Today when I went to pick up our pizza, one of the staff members was rude and snarky towards me. I don't driver 30 minutes out of my way for that. I will patronize a local business that's closer to me next time.

I've been to the Raleigh location as well, check out the review if you want to know more. Panysaurus over all is a cool place (either location) but they have drastically different vibes - which in my book is a good thing. The Durham location brings you an awesome patio scene! The bar itself is a bit small but their indoor/outdoor approach makes it seem huge. The patio is two floors, both covered, one just off the bar and the other right about that which has a few TVs for those interested. Off of the patio is a nice size "beer garden" sitting area complete with picnic tables and a great view. If you are looking for chill family friendly patio vibes this is the place to be! I really love Ponysaurus beer, their pilsner is nice but their kolsch is my favorite. If you've been to the Raleigh location, the Durham menus is not the same. Yes they have pizza but it doesn't seem to have the same options - still good though. We went with a hankering for the hummus we got at the Raleigh location, again the Durham location had hummus but a different variation. One thing that's consistent with both locations is the amount of pita that came with the hummus, there is nothing worse than getting a huge bowl of hummus and only a few pieces of hummus or chips. Both locations knocked it out of the park. Plenty of WARM pita for everyone. This location is somewhat self-service, the bartender obviously poured out beer and there is a cute window for picking up snacks but no table service.

I'm going to open by saying that the fun and humor of this restaurant is amazing. The interior is…read morenice and vibrant, with a perfect mix of minimalist and maximalist designs in the building (especially with the brewery apparatus being visible--which is awesome!!). Even before me an my party entered we could hear music playing from the building, which kept the vibes up! Moving onto the food, a certain menu item caught my eye. Something that I'm legally obligated to keep quiet about... but let tell you- this burger was Gooood. This "Signature Secret Burger" was rather unique, as it was like you took a pretty simple egg burger, and just ramped it up. My initial thought when I first tried it was that it was a burger squared, the mystery ingredients amplified the flavor to make such a savory meal. It wasn't to overbearing like many other burger places that I've visited, not immediately making me feel fat and full after taking a few bites. Our party also ordered a whole quart of fries, and they were SO GOOD!!! I'm a sucker for good fries, and you knocked this out of the park! Your fry soft was nice and mellow and complimented the fries perfectly. (And even afterwards, the fries warmed up really well and were still Really freakin' good!) Finally, during my visit, their anniversary event (Happy 15th By The Way ) and they were offering FREE DESSERT for someone who happened to sit in a randomly chosen seat. And by the luck of the gods my little brother found his way onto the seat! It was just really awesome to see a restaurant doing such awesome things for their birthday, y'don't see that every day! Overall, this place is definitely a place to stop by if you're in Durham. If you're in the area visit IMMEDIATELY if you love good fun food!

Vegan burger review!…read more Every once in a while even the vegans want a burger (aka me) so anyway I went to bull city brewery. The burger was yummy, nothing super unique, but I liked their vegan patty and thought it was moist and well flavored. I think it was a little expensive to come with no sides at all? but I don't think that's unique to the vegan burger. Anyway, I enjoyed the drink (blueberry mojito, a special at the time) a lot, and noticed that they have craft sodas on tap (super fun). The vibe is casual and woodsy, and the food came out in good time, though ordering at the front can take a while, since they only have one register. I think that the range of non-beer drinks they offer sets them apart a bit from other breweries (with the sodas, the specials, a few cocktails), which I really appreciate as someone who does not enjoy beer. They also tend to run drinks on a theme (i.e. when I was there they were offering like 7-10 different blueberry flavored drinks, both alocholic and non-alcoholic), which can make returning here fun. Overall, a good experience. They have some fun offerings, and a solid vegan burger.
