Middle Spunk Rest Area - View from my parked vehicle

Middle Spunk Rest Area

Pulling into this rest stop was straightforward. I was the only person using this rest stop, so parking wasn't an issue. The pathway to the rest stop was nicely maintained and shovelled. The women's washroom was clean. There was a lot of information about the washroom being a septic tank. I like rest stops that allow me to learn at my pace. There was a male staffer taking a break when I left. I saw a sign about Charles Lindbergh's ties to Minnesota, so I read it outside before I headed to my vehicle. Staying a bit longer allowed me to figure things out. This rest stop is in Avon, Minnesota. Why is it called Middle Spunk? Well, I looked at the frozen lake behind the snowbanks and trees. The lake is called Middle Spunk Lake. Across from this lake is Big Spunk Lake. I reckon that this place is awesome in the summertime. I can see boats out and folks fishing. It was nice to stop here. I'd love to drop by when it's warmer. (490)

Thankfully, the Middle Spunk Rest Area has no sign prohibiting overnight parking. I lined up, shut down and secured for the night. Yes, my Sprinter van is a converted RV and thanks to the fabulous layout of the rest area, the parking spots are pretty far from the noise of the roadway. It was quiet and peaceful. Elm Creek Rest Area - Rest stop feedback

I was at a pitstop crossroads. Should I take a break at Elm Creek Rest Area, which was the last…read morerest stop before I got to Eagan, or wait till I checked in to my hotel room in Eagan? I went with stretching here, which is in Maple Grove. I am glad that I did. There were lots of parking spots in front of the rest area. I pulled into a spot and walked into the building. The women's washroom was clean. I realized that I had been here eons ago. It looked and felt the same. There were a few maps for me to look at. I liked the scenic byways map better than the you-are-here one. What stands out about this rest stop are the vending machines. There were five of them. You could get everything from snacks, to hot and cold beverages. I liked the variety. The hot beverages one was cool. It had hot chocolate. I wasn't in the mood for a hot drink, but I'd like to try it someday and see if it's any good. This rest stop has picnic tables and lots of trees. It would be the perfect spot to have a brief picnic in the summertime. If you've got a pet with you, it would be the perfect place for your furry family member to go for a walk or stretch. I felt refreshed leaving this rest stop and heading into the homestretch to the hotel. It was nice revisiting it and taking a much needed break from driving. (84)

A nice rest area to stop for a picnic before traveling onward! My little family of five (that…read moreincludes one dog) enjoyed the grassy area with tables, covered areas, and plenty of shady trees. If you're on a road trip and need a bathroom, a place to let your pup out, water filling stations, vending machines, and a scenic byway map of MN, this is the place for you. We've been to bigger rest areas with bigger plots of surrounding land, but this one was clean and had everything we needed.

Somewhere in the middle section of Missouri the rest areas take a filthier turn with people who don't look like road travelers hanging in the parking lot and staring. In the Jackson Mi area on an overnight drive there were men running into a wooded area. I decided to shave and entered the lobby as a man was standing there with three women as they all smiled and said hello. Ok, that'll be ok. Soon as I got to the sink and taking out my shaving things the man comes up to the sink next to me...."here we go", I thought. He says.."..say you see those mighty fine ladies with me.. I could let you have a party with any that you want". This stop has a playground, a place for the dogs, spotless restroom, even in late afternoon, a wall of vending machines and just a scenic respite area. PB4UGO.

I stopped in to the Heath Creek Rest Area yesterday on the way to the Twin Cities. This place has what you need: - Easy access from and back to I-35. - Clean Rest Rooms - Drinking Water and Vending Machines - Nice Park-Like Atmosphere with Picnic Tables and Pet Walking Space. I did have one interesting experience inside of my 10-15 minutes here. Another car pulled up and one of the passengers was just behind me on the walk to the facilities. All of a sudden, he started asking me what I thought of Biden and how he was a big Trump supporter. As this was no place or time for such a discussion, I waved him off (twice) by saying that I don't talk politics in public. This just goes to show you that you never know who you'll run into at a rest stop, and it's best to always be situationally aware.
