Won't be staying here again. On the flip side.. it's quiet here. Staff is friendly so far. . Trip not starting off so well.

On arrival, we were informed that the room we had requested on the first floor had been given away. I booked this room in March, and the local staff blamed this on Expedia. I did not book this on Expedia, as I know it is far better to book on the Best Western site, as I stay in these hotels in southern Arizona. We were offered nothing for our inconvenience, other that it's not our fault.... Immediately, we noticed that the carpet was filthy. My wife had some brand-new socks and within 5 minutes, the bottoms of the socks were filthy. I can wear my socks outside and get them less dirty than my wives socks were. She left the pair for the local team to see just how dirty their facility is. Also, the sofa in the room was stained and smelly. The HVAC was not keeping up and contributed to an overall unpleasant odor. My wife decided to take a bath, and when she started the water, she noticed several pubic hairs. Does your team not clean the tubs???? Also, there is a nice layer of dust on the tiles used to create a kickboard inside the bathrooms. This shows your staff doesn't know how to clean. Another major problem was you had to slam the bathroom door to shut it. We would have reported this but were afraid we would be moved to a worse room. Oddly enough, once you got the door completely shut, it would easily open. Someone has done a poor installation on the door. We intend to post a video of this nightmare on Yelp and other sites. We also had an incident one morning when we got a knock at the door, despite having the tag requesting privacy hung on the doorknob. When I answered the door, I was informed that they needed to do a linen inventory. I informed them that my wife was feeling ill and was still in bed. They insisted that they be allowed to just jump in to count the towels in the bathroom. My wife screamed "NO", and I slowly closed the door. This is a level of incompetence among your local staff. They need to understand the privacy tag is there for a reason. Our night, there was an issue with the fire system continually alarming. This prevented us from getting any sleep once this started. I finally had to call the front desk to find out what was going on. In this situation, I have had other hotels notify the guests of ongoing problems, keeping them informed. I was so happy to leave and check into a Hilton hotel in Minneapolis. The first thing on the wall was a statement about if you have problems with a stay and it isn't made right, the stay is on Hilton. Amazingly, we had not once issue at this hotel.

The rooms are very quiet, clean and scent free. The beds were firm but very comfortable. There's a nice pool that's well maintained and kept at a usable temperature. The staff was extremely nice and very efficient. The continental breakfast was a step above average. The dining area was clean and the selection of food was just right. I like that they had some great additions for children, and really aren't we all children at heart? There was a waffle making machine/station which my wife used with the help of the lady who was supervising, cleaning and restocking the area. They had a nice selection of breads and bagels with a toaster. There was also some biscuits and gray with sausage crumbles that you could add if you like. My favorite was the scrambled eggs with smoked kielbasa's on the side. There were little single serve peanut butter and jelly containers as well as butter. There was a refrigerator with fruit yogurt, milk, packages with two hard boiled eggs and for the children there was a fruit cup, apple sauce cup, Brekkies (a soft chocolate chip, oat and flax) cookie and last but not least Uncrustables. There was also single serve cereal containers ranging from mini-wheats to fruit loops. 24 hour coffee service was always spot on. All in all we had a very nice stay at a warm and friendly Inn.

I am the one that has organized it for years. I live in the cities and as you know we have 100's of Inns/hotels very close to my area I thought it would be nice to venture out of the Metro area... I stayed there (in the Paynesville Inn) a few years ago for a family wedding so I thought I'd try it out. Meeting room, pool, pets allowed you had everything we absolutely needed. I called on Friday to confirm a few things and everything was a go.... OMG!! I walked up and big black trash bags sitting outside the lobby doors, I thought that was odd but proceeded. I walked in and I was in disbelief.... What the ...... Plastic covering the furniture in the lobby, plastic covering the stair railings... paper and plastic taped to the floors and carpet... up some walls. Cords and hoses were running all over the lobby and down the halls of the whole place. Did I tell you we had a handicap person with us.... We had the painters taping and re-taping and taping up holes in the floor covering so there would not be an issue, not a real Plastic was up over all room doors... to the meeting/party room. Plastic was up on the ceilings, around the doors, down on the floors. Construction lighting in the hallways. Power/outlets were not working in the party room for our crock pots, we had to tear down some of the plastic off covering the breakfast area so we could warm our dishes. And you are wondering how we had our free continental breakfast if it was covered with plastic??? Easy, breakfast was served in the laundry room. What a joke! I do have to say the staff they are great!! They went out of their way to try to be accommodating to make our event as nice as possible. My complaint is not with the staff there it is with the facilities/management/owners.... What the hell is wrong with you when you have an event coming reserving a dozen rooms, planning a party and do this? Businesses in small communities are having a tough time with the pandemic, and you do this... the whole hotel at once. Idiots!! Why did you not just do one floor at a time.... Oh, that would have made too much sense. Oh, did I mention there was no ice we had to go to the local gas station to get some. Then at check out time after our fancy laundry room continental breakfast... I go to pull my luggage out and I wind up having to lift it over cords and cables and a scaffolding plank that was just laying on the floor... dodging around a set of table and chairs... did I mention my husband is missing some fingers that is why we have/use the pull luggage is just so much easier for us.... Not this last weekend. And then once I go outside; 8-12 big black trash bags with 5-gallon paint (?) bucket Don't worry I am not planning on EVER staying at the Paynesville Inn EVER AGAIN, Social media... it's out there and word of mouth.... Well, what can I say, I do not shut up easily.

The Grand Stay is a smallish midwestern chain and there happened to be on in town so I grabbed a room for a few nights Small but nice lobby greets you as you walk in and the attentive fellow behind the desk got me squared away with a room in short order. I was up on the third floor so hopped the elevators and headed up. Elevator arrived and operated in the normal amount of time - so all good. Room was nicely appointed and clean. Bathroom was good sized, well lit and functional. Hot water was hot. There is a large indoor pool available, but I did not have the time to do anything there. They offer a free breakfast in the morning but to be honest, it was very basic. Coffee was decent however. The building is situated on the edge of a strip mall and there is an Italian sports bar there if you feel the need to grab something to eat and watch the game. Parking lot was a bit small and cramped, but got the job done. Overall a solid 3-star hotel and I would stay here again if in the area.

We stay a week at a time. That is how much we love it! It's not perfect but where is? Staff are very friendly and helpful and are readily available throughout the day. Cabins vary in size and age. Some are very rustic and dated. Some are quite new and updated. Cabin prices for the week (Saturday to Saturday) are pretty steep in my opinion. There are definitely no deals to be found; not even for loyal, returning customers. Many of the cabins are pet free, unfortunately. Many cabins need some work on the inside to keep things in working order. Pool is very nice. Very beautiful lake. You can rent a very nice pontoon for the day or week. This year we had to compete with COVID19 and new construction as they are completing two new homes (4 cabins in total) so everyday we awoke to construction trucks and equipment. Not particularly restful or idyllic. Pool did not open until our last 2 days of our vacation (due to COVID19)which was a bummer for the kids. Also, for the prices you pay, you still have to bring your own towels and toilet paper. I think they provide you with 2 rolls to start with. Also, all of your own things like dish soap, paper towels, etc. you will need to provide yourself. kitchens have some basic utensils. Most annoying issue is the poor WiFi reception. This is an issue for those of us who need to remain connected even when away on vacation. I do hope this gets fixed. It does not seem to be a priority to them, however. The coverage is sporadic and slow at best. Thank goodness for cellular hotspots! Water in the cabins can be smelly due to sulfur. The resort is not particularly handicapped accessible as getting around can be difficult. The resort has a lot of steps in some areas and not all cabins are zero entry. Also the resort is set up from the lake. Every cabin has a charcoal grill to use. They also have a fire pit at the resort but when it is going the cabins can smell pretty smoky depending upon which way the wind is blowing. This is a great place for family reunions and general family get togethers. Highly recommend. Only downside is the cost. Overall, would rate this place 4 out of 5 stars. Again, not perfect but pretty darn close. Please consider a loyalty customer discount. God willing, see you next year!
