    Chopped BBQ Plate

This place is a legendary sport themed restaurant. Multiple large screens and tons of jerseys, helmets and sports photos. Largely supporting the Auburn-Alabama rivalry. Barbecue is awesome and the servings are generous. So no one should leave hungry. Love the huge onion rings. Really great restaurant

We noticed the Full Moon BBQ restaurant here in Alabaster, Alabama when we were on the way to the hotel nearby. We had wanted to go to the Olive Garden but plans changed and ended up here. When in Rome, as they say. I typically don't have anything fancy or exotic before a marathon event, but after all these years of travel and racing, my body has become more accustomed to having anything and everything. With that said, we arrived here on a Friday evening around 6pm. The restaurant was already buzzing and had a line to order. Full Moon BBQ reminds me of a fast food counter and a restaurant seating area. It's an interesting business model and wished more restaurants did this type of set up. During my experience here, they had a fundraiser for a local school, where the kids were doing the deliverance of food and drinks to the patrons. All I had to do was order at the counter and sit down with my order number. The kids would bring our orders to us. I think my friend and I were lucky and we got a good booth near the kitchen counter before it got too busy. It was Friday night and prime time for dinner here in Alabaster. For the most part though, I thought that the ambiance was typical especially for a fast food establishment with a touch of class. The barbecue was nice and definitely a departure from what normal fare I usually have before running 26.2+ miles the next morning. The restaurant was clean and good. Not sure about the air condition or whether or not if they have WiFi, but I didn't check. Knowing I have to run 26.2+ miles the next day? Priceless. The overall experience here at the Full Moon Barbecue restaurant here in Alabaster, Alabama was typical I felt like. Just a place to enjoy Alabama barbecue. Or just to sample some. I ordered the chicken and baby back ribs combo. The food was good and definitely was well received by my stomach for sure. The restaurant is Southwest and didn't feel like it was too crowded for social distancing. The atmosphere was enjoyable and it was cool being here as a tourist but dressed like a local person, so it was nice to not be those type of people who are. The menu itself was extensive, but, I end up gravitate toward the combos because that's where the main stuff is. Too bad that I did not stick around for dessert or anything that could be classified as dessert. Could have been good but maybe next time if I'm in the area. They have your usual assortment of drinks that will quench your thirst. it was nice that they had iced tea on the side, but you would have to fill it up yourself sweetened and unsweetened. Not much else to say, other than the food is good, somewhat decadent, and delicious. It is not the type of place where you would find prime barbecue, but it was as good as it can be. I mean the locals come down here, so it must be legit and right. The prices here were very straightforward and valued around $15-$20 depending on what you get. I must say that I got my value here at the full moon barbecue restaurant in alabaster, Alabama. Not much else to comment on because it is basically a fast food restaurant with the fast food counter. It is almost basically like McDonald's with wait staff service. Only when I was there, there was a fundraiser for a local area school doing the wait staff service. The Full Moon Barbecue is located at 470 Colonial Promenade Parkway in Alabaster, Alabama. It's basically near the only two hotels in the area, the Candlewood Suites and the Holiday Inn Express. They accept major credit cards, as well as cash. As far as parking is concerned, there is plenty of parking here because they are part of the commercial area, complete with Dollar Tree and everyone else here. There's plenty of parking so you don't have to worry about. Not sure about local public transportation options here in alabaster but best bet is to get your own car. If nothing else, Uber and Lyft is at your disposal. It felt like a McDonalds and a Chilis restaurant all mixed in, but without the alcohol service. With the fast food counter and the restaurant side, this place can be a favorite for anyone and everyone who loves homestyle Alabama barbecue. For myself though, it was an enjoyable experience, especially tasting those baby back ribs. Boy, it was really good to actually have something different than the usual pasta and potato potatoes for pre-event dinner. The Full Moon Barbecue restaurant is recommended if you are in the area and love barbecue. They cover basically everything your heart will definitely desire. And then some. And so, come on down if you are in the area or just passing thru. They will be happy to see you. My stomach was happy that it had barbecue. The prices were average for the type of food offered and served. 4.0 stars for the overall experience. 4.5 stars for the location, not far from the hotel. 3.5 stars for the prices. 4.0 stars for the service and food. I made the rookie mistake of not taking any photos of my order.... oops! I will tell you this , the half rack I ordered was slightly overcooked. I ran across a few burnt pieces while eating. I am a fan of Full moon ribs , but no one wants any overcooked ribs. This was disappointing. Very DISAPPOINTING! Being that it was a holiday when I visited, the drive thru was very crowded. The dine in seating option was available/ to go/ curbside pickup as well. I also ordered a quart of marinated slaw. I absolutely LOVE the slaw here! Marinated slaw can be overly vinegar driven sometimes but Full moon does a fantastic job with their signature marinated slaw. Like I mentioned , the drive thru was really crowded but it seemed to move along pretty quickly. The staff was efficient and friendly. It was good to see social distancing and masks being utilized.

Salad with Pork (from previous in-restaurant meal)

Hard to beat a chilly night in front of the TV with some take out from Full Moon. Husband and I both ordered the open face pork sandwich; I got mine chopped and he ordered his sliced with bark. I can't always keep the cut versions straight at some of the local BBQ places: sliced, chopped, shredded, pulled. So be sure to ask what each is to get your preference. Here at Full Moon, the chopped is what I usually get and it's their default. It's a fine chop, but not so fine as to make it dry. Husband asks for sliced, which personally, I think is more like chopped or pulled as it is a coarse, chunkier style with bits about fingertip size. He also always requests a little bark, which they're happy to accommodate if they can. Open face sandwiches (to go) came with two pieces of lightly toasted bread. I often ask for mine on the side so I can eat it more like toast, and less of a mushy bottom. Side of fries, and I was ready for kickoff. I always forgo the chow chow, as I am not a fan of the relish. Just give me some tasty well-smoked meat with the sauce on the side. For the two plates, it was about $18 (before tax), but we did not get drinks. Note: I'm also including a pic of the Salad with pork from a previous visit in the dining room. I checked in but obviously forgot to write a review.

Brisket, ribs, beans, and Mac n cheese
    Jim S.

Not bad for a chain, the ribs were spare and still had the tips so not as easy to eat but tender enough and decent flavor, the brisket wasn't sliced, it was chunks that more resembles chuck roast but fairly tender and tasted fine. Not a favorite but Im very picky on bbq after becoming active in the bbq competitions.

I only had potato salad left from Thanksgiving 2018. So I decided to pair it with the 3 bone rib sandwhich. The ribs were good. Easy to eat as the meat was tender. The drive thru was a little slow but I think it was worth the wait and the cashier was nice. I don't frequent Full Moon as often as other places but I am well pleased with the service and food on this last visit. I will be back.

I order lemon pepper wings and fried green tomatoes. The wings didn't take like or look like lemon pepper and I only got 3 fried green tomatoes. I ate food cause it was late. I have a picture of the wings didn't know how to upload the picture. Alabaster location

Great choice. I also got a side salad with the chipotle ranch dressing and that was very good too. Picture below. For dessert, I was planning on getting the key lime pie, because that is usually my move, but Hayden my server talked me into trying the blueberry cobbler cheesecake instead. I am glad he did. Only concern was I asked for Champy's sauce with the tender basket, looked at it in the parking lot and noticed it looked like their honey mustard instead. Tried it, confirmed it tasted like honey mustard, then went inside with my receipt asking for it to be switched for Champy's sauce. Spoke to a waitress (not the one who helped us at drive thru) and I explained that I wanted Champy's sauce. She said "uh huh" confused and I held up what I had saying it tasted like honey mustard. She said yes Champy's sauce is honey mustard based. I told her I've been to (and worked as a teenager) at Champy's before in Tennessee and the color was more yellow than the orange I'm used to (like they added too much honey mustard) and again it tasted exactly like honey mustard. She explained that the Champy's sauce (and red heat) recipe was different at their location. I took her answer and left. Not sure if I indeed had honey mustard (they come in the same containers) and she didn't want to double check or if their Champy's sauce recipe really is just primarily honey mustard. I think the people of Alabama are missing out though on the champys sauce from the original location in Chattanooga, not sure why there is so much variation between locations. Other than that, everything was great!
