Came in at 6 pm to the Pelham location - there was no one else in the restaurant. TV's were on but no sound or captioning was on; there was no music playing; employee was sweeping the floors. I asked if they were closing, she said no. Took about 15 minutes for 2 sandwiches & sides. After employee brought out our food, she started talking to table next to us about her (?) funeral director classes & embalming in graphic detail- not what you want to hear about while you are eating-especially with no background noise to drown out the conversation. We kinda lost our appetite at that point & left. Its not a good vibe there-its not inviting. Not sure who the manager is there because you never see one around - when former manager Matt was there the restaurant shined - it was welcoming - now not so much. I love this location. Everything is consistently great. It was late when I got done with my errands. I was really craving bbq but I was fairly sure they were about to close so I called. The young lady who answered the phone answered like she was enjoying her job. She was happy and friendly. I inquired as to their closing time and she told me in 20 minutes. She didn't tell me they weren't taking orders, which I actually expected. I rushed over, suspecting I might not get what I wanted because of the time. I knew I wouldn't be done by closing so I went through the drive through. The drive through and the building were both clean and well maintained. The lady who took my order was friendly and upbeat. I ordered a bbq pork plate, sliced, with potato salad and mac and cheese and a large diet Dr. Pepper. At the window everyone was super friendly. I asked for extra napkins and got a stack. Lots of issues with our first and most recent visit. We arrived right as they opened on a Sunday to pick up a Family pack to go. While our food was freaky and hot, it was bland and had no seating ( fries and chicken tenders had no taste at all). We noticed the Full Moon BBQ restaurant here in Alabaster, Alabama when we were on the way to the hotel nearby. We had wanted to go to the Olive Garden but plans changed and ended up here. When in Rome, as they say. I typically don't have anything fancy or exotic before a marathon event, but after all these years of travel and racing, my body has become more accustomed to having anything and everything. With that said, we arrived here on a Friday evening around 6pm. The restaurant was already buzzing and had a line to order. Full Moon BBQ reminds me of a fast food counter and a restaurant seating area. It's an interesting business model and wished more restaurants did this type of set up. During my experience here, they had a fundraiser for a local school, where the kids were doing the deliverance of food and drinks to the patrons. All I had to do was order at the counter and sit down with my order number. The kids would bring our orders to us. I think my friend and I were lucky and we got a good booth near the kitchen counter before it got too busy. It was Friday night and prime time for dinner here in Alabaster. For the most part though, I thought that the ambiance was typical especially for a fast food establishment with a touch of class. The barbecue was nice and definitely a departure from what normal fare I usually have before running 26.2+ miles the next morning. The restaurant was clean and good. Not sure about the air condition or whether or not if they have WiFi, but I didn't check. Knowing I have to run 26.2+ miles the next day? Priceless. The Full Moon Barbecue is located at 470 Colonial Promenade Parkway in Alabaster, Alabama. It's basically near the only two hotels in the area, the Candlewood Suites and the Holiday Inn Express. They accept major credit cards, as well as cash. As far as parking is concerned, there is plenty of parking here because they are part of the commercial area, complete with Dollar Tree and everyone else here. There's plenty of parking so you don't have to worry about. Not sure about local public transportation options here in alabaster but best bet is to get your own car. If nothing else, Uber and Lyft is at your disposal. It felt like a McDonalds and a Chilis restaurant all mixed in, but without the alcohol service. With the fast food counter and the restaurant side, this place can be a favorite for anyone and everyone who loves homestyle Alabama barbecue. For myself though, it was an enjoyable experience, especially tasting those baby back ribs. Boy, it was really good to actually have something different than the usual pasta and potato potatoes for pre-event dinner. The Full Moon Barbecue restaurant is recommended if you are in the area and love barbecue. They cover basically everything your heart will definitely desire. And then some. And so, come on down if you are in the area or just passing thru. They will be happy to see you. My stomach was happy that it had barbecue. I made the rookie mistake of not taking any photos of my order.... oops! I will tell you this , the half rack I ordered was slightly overcooked. I ran across a few burnt pieces while eating. I am a fan of Full moon ribs , but no one wants any overcooked ribs. This was disappointing. Very DISAPPOINTING! Being that it was a holiday when I visited, the drive thru was very crowded. The dine in seating option was available/ to go/ curbside pickup as well. I also ordered a quart of marinated slaw. I absolutely LOVE the slaw here! Marinated slaw can be overly vinegar driven sometimes but Full moon does a fantastic job with their signature marinated slaw. Hard to beat a chilly night in front of the TV with some take out from Full Moon. Husband and I both ordered the open face pork sandwich; I got mine chopped and he ordered his sliced with bark. I can't always keep the cut versions straight at some of the local BBQ places: sliced, chopped, shredded, pulled. So be sure to ask what each is to get your preference. Here at Full Moon, the chopped is what I usually get and it's their default. It's a fine chop, but not so fine as to make it dry. Husband asks for sliced, which personally, I think is more like chopped or pulled as it is a coarse, chunkier style with bits about fingertip size. He also always requests a little bark, which they're happy to accommodate if they can. Open face sandwiches (to go) came with two pieces of lightly toasted bread. I often ask for mine on the side so I can eat it more like toast, and less of a mushy bottom. Side of fries, and I was ready for kickoff. I always forgo the chow chow, as I am not a fan of the relish. Just give me some tasty well-smoked meat with the sauce on the side. Not bad for a chain, the ribs were spare and still had the tips so not as easy to eat but tender enough and decent flavor, the brisket wasn't sliced, it was chunks that more resembles chuck roast but fairly tender and tasted fine. I was in line almost 20 minutes as your employees slowly went though the ordering process with the line so that at 751pm they started refusing orders. They refused the car in front of me, myself and there two behind me. Irvin and Cortez, who stated he was management, both gave multiple variations of stories/excuses as to why they weren't taking anymore orders though admitting it was before 8, their "system" was then down, and then they cited they were "out of things to sell." Well, call me Karen if you want to, but I am fresh out of patience for companies who continue to treat the consumer like this company did tonight. Unbeknownst to them, but I did tell them when I was leaving, we get their catered food multiple times a week in the industry that I work in. They are now listed as a do not order from going forward. My first time eating at this location. Today I went with the smoked wings(sweet heat), they were just as great as all of their locations! . You can definitely taste the smoke in the wings. I had the key lime pie for dessert and it was heavenly. I also made sure I got an order of 1/2 moon cookies to go, which are chocolate chip cookies and 1/2 of the cookie is dipped in milk chocolate. Full Moon is my absolute favorite BBQ place! The brisket is what I like the most out of the meats as it is so tender and mixes so well with the sauce. The pork has a very good peppery taste to it and is chipped unless requested. The ribs are killer, good, and meaty. They really don't have a rub on them so they are not my favorite. The chicken is very good. I usually don't get chicken at a BBQ place but I do at Full Moon at times. It has a BBQ rotisserie taste to it. The turkey is actually really good too especially with the white sauce. My favorite thing about Full Moon are the sauces! The tomato-vinegary-peppery one is one of the best in my opinion and so is the white sauce they have, which is mayo based. Doesn't taste anything like mayo though! I've 2 burgers from Full Moon. I think the first one I had was the Southern one that comes with BBQ sauce on it. Very good burger. The other one was the Kickin Cheeseburger one that comes with Pimento cheese, bacon, and Texas Toast. It was the worst thing I've had at Full Moon. The BBQ is way better than the burgers. As for the sides, the potato salad is a creamy, mustardy goodness. Baked beans have a sweet flavor to them. The cole slaw is a vinegar based and magazines rate it as something you have to try. I don't feel the same but it has grown on me. French fries are like steak fries from the freezer at the store. They do have vegetables of the day. Saturdays are mashed potatoes and gravy and to be honest, is not very good. Fridays are butter beans and they are phenomenal. Menu is too large to be posted up on a board. Needs hand out menus. Food is OK. Staff does a pretty good job of keeping the place clean even though it was pretty busy. I just don't get the idea that it is called BBQ, when in fact it is simply smoked meat that is then smothered in BBQ sauce. BBQ should be meat that has the sauce applied while smoking the meat. I was back here today, same scenario but ordered onion rings instead of fries. I was given a plate with a sandwich on it with 3-4 cold fries and a separate sandwich, no onion rings. Had outside sliced pork plate , slaw and baked beans , and was very very good , portions was huge, slaw was good vinegar based , tangy . Baked beans balanced it out perfectly sweet and savory. Back in town and came here after work. They don't really have a BBQ sandwich plate so they'll give you the pulled pork plate with some bread to make your own. Fine with me I guess. Just a little bigger food capacity wise and more than I wanted to spend and it doesn't come with a drink. Taste wise is was pretty good. I've had better pulled pork out there, but I'd give it probably a B-. It was a tiny bit dry, but not too bad and had and decent smoke flavor. BBQ sauce is decent. Fries were pretty good, but nothing super special. Mac and cheese was homemade tasting and extra cheesy. Sweet tea is very sweet, but wasn't as good as the other times I have been here.
