A descent dessert area with pastries and fruit, unfortunately they don't have the ice cream machine anymore so that's always a bummer now. I normally don't go out of my way to leave a bad review, but Fuji Buffet was extremely disappointing. First, there was apparently no working air conditioning, and they had portable coolers set up inside the restaurant. It was not a comfortable environment to eat in. Then came the food. Almost everything we tried lacked flavor. The orange chicken was especially bad -- there really wasn't much substance to it and the pieces looked more like scraps than recognizable pieces of chicken. The noodles were unevenly cooked, with some soft and others seemingly undercooked. The sushi was another concern. The avocado on some pieces had turned brown, which certainly did not give the impression that it was fresh. Even the dessert selection was disappointing. The almond cookies were probably one of the safest bets because they were still sitting in the containers they were shipped in. Drinks are also an additional charge and had to be paid for separately/in advance. I'm not much of a buffet person, but my husband enjoys them, and even he had no interest in coming back here. I am going to give them a higher rating because honestly I do not understand the hate, this is a typical "chinese/ asian style buffet" and it is budget friendly and you get what you pay for ! Been coming here on and off for years, not going to lie I would give them 3 stars but they deserve the recognition, it is not as good as it use to be and its unfortunate that the ice cream machine is gone but considering the kids went to town and demolished it left and right- I do not blame them lol. If you don't like this and want better- go pay more and go somewhere authentic where you get what you pay for This was my first time back in over 4 years but it was still good, the food is good! Not the best and can do more seasoning but for the chinese food and seafood it is good in my opinion! The cheese baked mussels are my ultimate favorite and honestly, if it seems like it is running out or old, trust me- wait 5 minutes and they are on the clock around switching it out. I feel people should understand, there is more asian/chinese/seafood variety here than what you would get at golden corral or hometown so if your food pallet isn't too big then I would not go here. This is our first time here, and everything has been satisfying. I'm not sure why it has a low rating. We often go to buffets, and this is a typical Asian buffet. The food is delicious, especially the variety of seafood. The place is clean, with someone always cleaning up food spills. The cashier and staff are nice. One of the most important things is that the women's bathroom is clean and doesn't have an unpleasant odor. Plus, the price is very reasonable compared to other buffets we've visited. This was my third time eating here and I feel like the food quality has gotten worse recently. My friends and I would come here for fun from Santa Barbara because of the lack of buffets in SB. The vibe here has always been strange, but enjoyable because we liked new experiences. Unfortunately, the food quality took a dive this time so I don't think we'll be coming back here again. In terms of the vibe, this time there was a Rudy Giuliani documentary playing on half the T.Vs and the music playing over the speakers were covers of all the latest pop songs. Don't come here with high standards for food or else you'll be disappointed. There were several different types of chicken (Orange, BBQ, Pepper, etc.) but they all tasted so similar because they were just salty and fried. The shrimp tasted okay in honey walnut shrimp and garlic shrimp zucchini but the shrimps were really small and covered in too much sauce. My favorite item was the BBQ pork bun which was decent, and my least favorite was the egg drop soup which had a really unpleasant thickness to it. The dinner buffet was around $17 per person so it was a good deal for a buffet, but the food quality makes this place not worth it. read more

While I will refrain from using that word to describe the rest of the food, I also will not use the word terrible to describe anything I ate either. So for $13, to be able to eat at a clean enough buffet, for good enough food, and enjoy a wide variety of options, then this is a great place. Now don't come in expecting fine dining. I go here about once every month or so. The part that makes this place unique vs the other ghetto ratchet buffets in town (this place is actually good) is that they have a great Mongolian station where you prepare your plate and they cook it for you. They also have a sushi station which is also pretty good. I also get military discount which is much appreciated so right then and there that let's you know THEY CARE about our troops and federal government employees. The kitchen crew does a great job of keeping the kitchen nice and clean and the food replenished. Note: Just because it's a buffet it doesn't mean to stuff yourself. It wasn't too crowded when I got there but around 730pm it got quite busy. *Note: I haven't been here for a few years. Seems like they have changed business names/owners quite a few times. But a few years ago, it was called Blue Star Buffet, I'm pretty sure the food poisoning I got, was from eating here, messed me up pretty bad. I will never forget the months of pain from that! : I've heard from Family & Friends, that Fuji Buffet has been better in regards to food quality & service. So I've decided to come back & give it a try. & because we're celebrating my pops Bday along with a party of 16, this place seemed affordable. Fuji is located on Channel Islands & Ventura Rd. The parking lot isn't too welcoming as they are doing construction. (It used to be the old K-Mart, which they now have a Smart & Final & in the process of an LA Fitness gym). Dinner price on a Saturday night is $11.99 per person. Not including drinks, soda is an extra fee. There was a lot of food choices to my surprise. Soups, salad, fruit, lots of asian food, & dessert including a self serve ice cream dispenser w/ cones. Likes: -Lots of seafood: fried shrimp, honey shrimp, fried fish, grilled fish, oysters, mussels, clams, crab legs & fried crab (fried crab on Saturdays only, I believe). -They have sushi -Next to sushi they will cook you a noodle dish, you choose from their selection -Kid friendly food: Fries, fried chicken, pizza, quesadilla etc. -Our server was polite & was good at clearing our dirty dishes (just a slight language barrier, but it was fine) -I waited the next day to write a review in case something happened. So far so good. -They accommodate to large parties (of course they include the service fee in the bill, 10% tip) :) Dislikes: -Employees standing around at the buffet side, watching you & speaking in their native tongue, lol -It's Oxnard, so other people staring at you -The dessert table.
