i haven't actually eaten here but based on my takeout experience this place needs to get their act together. Called to get takeout on sunday around 7pm. They told us they only do takeout from 5-6, but the restaurant closes at 9. That made no sense. Then they told us that we could only get takeout if we came and ordered from the bar and sat and waited. How does that make any sense!? You're making the sushi anyways, so why in the world would you make a customer come in and sit at the bar, during COVID! If i wanted to come and eat inside, i would have. read more

Fugu is AMAZING!! My parents live in Palm Coast and they rave about this restaurant so while we are in town visiting we had to go! The restaurant is not only so cool on the inside but the waitress (Anna) and manager (Keri) were the kindest and most helpful people when choosing apps and entrees! They truly made the experience so wonderful! We went on a Tuesday evening and they were having bar specials so we enjoyed a bottle of wine half off!! We then chose multiple apps and entrees to try! I would definitely say try to get things everyone at your table can try, there are so many awesome choices you want to try as much as possible!! The seafood is so fresh and tasty!! I honestly loved everything we got, I can't pick a favorite. Not only is the food delicious, the atmosphere is so fun and beautiful I was trying to just take it all in!! Went on opening week and loved it! Great atmosphere and very fresh sushi. Pork belly steam buns were delicious - but the chef gets to pick what meat it comes with each night. They just need to get eel sauce and I'll be 100% happy. Definitely recommend coming here! Sitting at the bar was fun too and the chefs gave us two free nigiri salmon rolls. read more

My wife and I were really excited to see a new sushi place being built in down town Ormond Beach and couldn't wait to try it out. We were on our way to an established Italian restaurant and saw that Fugu Sushi was now open so we dropped our plans and pulled into the parking lot. They really did a great job with the decor and styling. The large outdoor patio and view of the river were great. The staff was attentive and friendly and we were able to be seated immediately. That is pretty much where the joy ended and the disappointment began. The prices were a little higher than average, but not out of line for a higher-end restaurant and a great meal is worth it, right? Well... We ordered Miso, Green Tea, Cocktail Shrimp Appetizer and Gyoza for starters and Soft-Shell Crab sushi roll and Crunchy Tuna sushi roll for our main courses. The miso looked fantastic. Not watery with a few bits of seaweed and shallots. But brothy, with lots of seaweed and tofu and a nice color. I was surprised when I took the first spoonful. It was super, super salty. And barely lukewarm. In fact, some of the tofu was still COLD. It didn't make a lot of sense because the soup bowl was very warm, almost hot. The broth wasn't. I hadn't eaten all day and was starving so I had a few more spoonfuls. I then went to wash down the salty miso with my green tea and it was also barely lukewarm. ???? On top of being cold it tasted like they had put lemon juice into the green tea. No, just no. If I wanted lemon tea I would have asked for Lipton. The very nice waitress brought me a fresh soup and cup of tea and they were both hot this time. Unfortunately, they were still way too salty and lemony. The Gyoza was ok. Not great, not bad. Ok. The $13 Shrimp Cocktail came with 3 shrimp. THREE. That's more than $4 PER SHRIMP, my friends. They were cooked well. But there was no seasoning of any type on them. They were just plain, cooked, $4 shrimp. The wife was pretty disappointed with the sauce as well. It was quite underwhelming and tasted like plain old bottled (bargain) cocktail sauce. Not a tasty, spicy, chef prepared sauce you would expect from a fancy restaurant. My disappointment only increased when our sushi arrived. I ordered the Crunchy Tuna roll which is made of: "tuna tartar * avocado * tempura crunch * sweet soy". I did not find any crunchy tempura or even a hint of sweet soy. It was bland and the tuna was slimy and stringy. I think it may have been left out to warm a little too long. Thank God for Soy Sauce, Ginger and Wasabi! The soft shell crab roll wasn't any tastier and had to be bathed in soy sauce to be tolerated. Maybe the 3rd string chef was in today or he was just having an off day I'm not sure. I do know I won't be going back to find out. NOT recommended. read more

Finally trying this place been wanting to come here the décor inside was very nice and we were greeted nice, they ask if they can take our temperature which I don't mind and we pass our server Jaime was very knowledgeable that was nice she was also pleasant. Ambience was absolutely beautiful; super aesthetic, really cool art and lighting, and perfect if you're the trippy hippie type. Food was AMAZING. We ordered the Pirates Cove roll and we've never tasted a better roll. We ordered Bloody Marys, which we were admittedly skeptical about because we haven't had the best cocktail experience in Japanese restaurants before, but they were hands down some of the best Bloody Marys we have ever drank. Fugu has been a family favorite for years. We celebrated Christmas Eve here last year, my 40th this summer, and tonight, we celebrated my mom's 70th. The food and cocktails were, as always top notch, but the staff couldn't have been kinder. Our waitress was sweet and patient with our four kids, and the chef came out twice and even brought two of our kids back to the kitchen. Went tonight and was pleasantly surprised at how wonderful the staff was. The artwork is pretty dang neat and the view of the intercostal is very calming. The spicy edamame was cooked perfectly and my favorite two rolls are the surf and turf and the crunchy tuna roll. Everything was very fresh! This restaurant was fabulous! Our service was great on a Friday night. Delightful decor ( murals are super) made the delicious food all the more enjoyable. If you are in Ormond Beach, don't miss this terrific Sushi/Asian restaurant. My companions lived their Sushi dishes and I feasted on Crab appetizers, Crispy Shrimp Tempura and Chicken Fried Rice. Let me start by saying, that I have only heard good things about Fugu and wanted to try it for awhile. I happen to be close by and stopped in to order dinner. I ordered the Ormond by the Sea which was fresh but bland and served with a sweet sticky sauce (not appealing). I ordered the Tomoka Roll (see the picture) and that was a fried chewy gooey rice gob. Look at it! There is nothing in that roll. It is supposed to have cucumber, scallions, yellowtail and cream cheese. It had very little to none of those ingredients. Probably the worst roll I have had in the past couple years. I was told the Karaage was really good, but I disagree. It was just ok. They are just ok chicken fingers at best. At least I know, when in Ormond, that is not where I'll be eating. read more

So this place just opened up and my husband and I went around the week around July 20th, 2020. We sat outside because it was a nice evening. They just opened and they have a lot of room to grow to nail everything down and their systems PROS: - servers wear masks - indoor, outdoor, and bar seating that goes inside and outside - decor is very favorable - staff is very kind CONS: - SUPER SLOW! It took forever to get a beer, drink, our food, or even a napkin. It wasn't that busy that it would take 10 min to get the bottled beer from the bar that was 10ft away from us and no one at the bar with the bartender not doing much. - outside tables have slats in them and condensation from your drink drips through. They need placemats and coasters outside - the manager visited every table outside except for ours - received my salad with my dinner instead of before like I asked, - didn't get ginger or wasabi with my sushi even though I told her at the table to please make sure I had ginger. Someone else brought the food out so I asked them for it. The guy said he'll tell my server. So then I had to wait there with food I front of me for him to find her, tell her, then she came back to the table to confirm, then told the kitchen, and then had to wait for it. What sushi chef doesn't already put this on the plate! - it was a pricey bill for mediocre service, timing of food, and I constantly had to wait on the server to bring me what I needed from silverware and napkins to ginger and wasabi with my sushi. Maybe I'll visit again and change my review but it was a frustrating visit. read more
