Came here to get a second opinion after pep boys tried to tell me I had bad rear shocks and tires and threatened to not pass my nys inspection. Tried to charge me $1600 . This mechanic took a look at it and said I didn't need work on the shocks and that my tires would be good for approximately another year. For a female that always runs into a problem with mechanics trying to swindle me I find great comfort that I found this establishment. My family and friends have repaired all their cars with FTC within the pass decade without any flaws in the workmanship. Car maintenance solo trips tend to stress me out. As a lady customer, I never really know if I am being taken advantage of. I was relieved that I worried for no reason! Fung is a great mechanic and really is a one man show. I drove my car to his shop by 10:30am on a Wednesday to find him working on two other cars. I pulled into the bay and thought there was someone else aiding him in the office; to my surprise there was just him. I left my car in the car bay and waited on the sidewalk for him to finish up the other two cars. There is a small seating area inside but due to covid-19 it cannot seat two people. Before I knew it, the cars inside were backing up and that waiting area seat was free. I watched as Fung loaded my car into the hydraulic lift area and start the process of an oil change and inspection all by himself while greeting and addressing additional cars who showed up. Who showed up you may ask? Many more people than you would think on a random Wednesday on a street filled with many other mechanic shops. You can tell there is a reason customers come back to see Fung. As I waited there, he did the oil change and tire rotation for my car and a second car. In the mean while, 2 other cars pulled into the bay with questions/concerns. They came up to him like they had known him for a while. He addressed their concerns, ran quick diagnostics, and they paid him on the spot and left quickly. The car that had the oil change at the same time as I did had left, and a second vehicle replaced it. I was watching in awe at the speed of everything and I couldn't believe how quickly he was able to finish everything on his own. He also reset the maintenance light reminder on my car, which you would think is a given for any mechanic, but to be honest I have left a previous mechanic who did not reset it for me. I have never witnessed a more hardworking, honest guy. He finished an oil change, inspection, and tire rotation in about an hour and 15 minutes . At some point it crossed my mind that I wasn't even sure if he had time to grab a bite to eat or drink some water! He was so focused & efficient in getting the work done! He even helped me back my big car out into the busy street (I was having a little anxiety about how I would get back to the street which has a high amount of traffic both ways). When I got back into the car I noticed a few grease stains. One was from a different mechanic for an oil change, and another was noticeably newer. I asked Fung if he could wipe it for me and he came back with a citrus spray which took both small stains out. Wow! I have not experienced service like this before. My father recommended me to him and I was glad he did. I did not get much of a chance to speak much to him because he was so busy behind the hood or tire, but when I did get a chance to mention it, he did recall my father and the vehicle he drove. Just a tip: I recommend paying in cash and asking for a receipt (I do not think you get a receipt unless you ask for one, the exception being the inspection form confirmation from the state that prints out). You can tell he is excellent at what he does and charges fair prices. If you know nothing about cars like me, you will not be overcharged! I've not previously tipped a mechanic, mostly because I never saw the mechanic who worked on the car, but in this case it was much deserved. He was very appreciative for it as well. It's good to build a relationship with your mechanic. I can attest to how hard he works. I told him I would be writing this Yelp review too. So Fung if you are reading this: Thanks again ! I have been coming here for years! I would recommend Fung 100 times over. He is super honest and very direct, as all things should be. He is always busy but honesty is hard to come by nowadays, so it's worth the wait. I usually call before heading there just in case it's too busy. read more

My car hit a big pothole over the weekend and afterwards, car was making rattling noises when braking. I brought my car early in the morning and Fung lifted up the car and checked. After 3 minutes of checking under the car, he saw that the heat shield was bent and was rubbing against the car. All he did was unbent the shield and the noise went away. He did not charge me at all and told me not to worry about it. I still tipped him of course. Very honest man and its rare to have a mechanic that is so honest. Highly recommend him. First timer here for a NYS annual inspection. Usually, I dread bringing my car to the mechanic for an Inspection because nearly all mechanics want to make more money by hustling their customers. This is the first time EVER that I went in and out in under 10 minutes to do the NYS inspection with very little conversation. Rip off and scam alert! AVOID this place at all costs! I needed to find a place to get my state inspection done as my usual mechanic was having some renovations done in his shop and was closed for a week. I saw the ok reviews for this place, but boy were they all wrong--probably written by people with no knowledge of cars and just want the cheapest price, even when the work is unnecessary. I'm a car enthusiast and know my way around cars. I also know the state inspection program provides the perfect opportunity for the many dishonest mechanics out there to rip people off (actually, extortion is a more appropriate term). I made sure that my car with only 22k miles would have no legitimate problems with passing the inspection before I brought it in. Fung (the owner) puts my car on a lift and immediately says I need new brakes. I told him I checked the brake pads before I came over and they have plenty of material left on them. He says no, he won't let the car pass unless I replace the brake pads. I told him there's almost 5mm of material left (good for another 1-2 years at the rate I drive) and the wear sensor is nowhere close to being activated. He continues to argue with me so I tell him to show me what he's smoking. He starts complaining about how I'm wasting his time and how I don't trust him (big warning sign whenever someone says that!) He tells his worker to take the wheel off to show me. I then call Fung to come over and see how much material is left on the brake pad. He refuses and again says he's not going to pass the car unless I replace the brakes so I should just go, which is what I did. For reference, page 38 of the NYS Inspection regulations at https://dmv.ny.gov/forms/cr79.pdf states that brake pads are good until the wear sensor activates. From my experience, this happens at around 1-2mm, so in my case I had at least 2x the legal requirement for my pads and yet Fung tried to rip me off. Another interesting thing I noticed in his run down, filthy, greasy and disorganized shop was a nice clean display of a wide assortment of wiper blades in all different sizes. Why is this interesting you might ask? Besides brakes, wiper blades are the other major area where scum bag mechanics rip people off. These are super high profit margin items for them. They'll say a car won't pass inspection unless the wiper blades are replaced and then proceed to charge you 2-3x the going rate while you're essentially held captive. I kid you not when I say his display of wiper blades was the cleanest thing in his entire shop. I did not stick around long enough to see if they would've tried to force me to also buy wiper blades from them if I had naively told them to do the brake job. read more

It is so difficult these days to find mechanics these days that are not trying to scam you or charge you an outrageous price for a quick job. Came back from college with some minor issues in my car so I needed a quick fix. I got my brake pads and brake calipers replaced along with some alignments. The mechanic helped fix some rusty parts of my car and showed me what he was doing as he was working. I was in and out within an hour, quick work and very good quality staff. This place so far is my favorite auto repair and maintenance shop. I'm saying this from experience. The head mechanic Fong is very knowledgeable about cars and if you have an old car and want to keep it running this is definitely the place to go. The mechanic is very thorough with finding problems even without you even knowing that it existed. I've been coming here for over a decade (when they were still on Corona ave) and this mechanic is the only one that I really trust. It's almost like he doesn't want my money.
