Fry's Marketplace is about five minutes from our place in Ahwatukee, which already gives it a big advantage. When a store is this close and this consistent, it becomes part of the routine whether you plan it or not. This is one of the larger Fry's locations, so you get a little bit of everything. Full grocery selection, decent produce, a solid meat and seafood counter, bakery, deli, even some household goods mixed in. It's the kind of place where you can walk in for a few things and realistically walk out having checked off your entire list. The layout mostly makes sense. Aisles are wide enough, signage is clear, and after a couple visits you don't really have to think about where things are. It's not one of those stores where you feel like you're navigating a maze every time you go in. Quality is generally good. Produce is fresh more often than not, and the selection is broad enough that you're not settling. Same goes for the rest of the store. Nothing feels neglected or picked over unless you hit it at a bad time. Staff has always been helpful when needed, but not hovering. Quick interactions, point you in the right direction, keep things moving. Checkout lines can vary depending on the time of day, but that's pretty standard anywhere. It's not a perfect store. You'll hit the occasional crowded evening or a product that's out of stock. But those are small things in the bigger picture. What matters is this. Probably the last 5 times my orders have been postponed, and more than once I show up to pick up when the order is supposed to be ready and I get kicked back (after I've indicated arrival on the app and request for the order to be brought out, all of a sudden that goes away and I sit there waiting for a good while, and have to check in again.) Today I've been here for 25 minutes (not exaggerating) and the poor guy is running around. This is a beautiful grocery store. Wait, can a grocery store be beautiful? Yes, it can. And this one is. I like the layout, the way the aisles are stocked and the overall feel of the place. If I lived here, this is where I'd do my regular shopping. Cliff helped us at the check out stand and was friendly. When greeting us and asking how we were, we said the usual "fine, and you", to which he started to answer honestly and then stopped himself and responded with a polite "fine, thank you." He was funny and genuine-I like that. Cliff is a good guy and if his manager sees this, he should get a raise. The level of incompetence at this Fry's is beyond shocking! The cashier couldn't get the coupons to scan, so they called over a manger who also didn't know! It's a coupon!! This fry's store discriminates against those with physical disabilities who need assistance. I was just there, doing some shopping for upcoming meals, and had my personal assistant with me. There are many things I can't carry, I don't drive, and I need help with an assortment of physical tasks. My assistant was ringing out our food in the personal checkout and when it was come time to scan a bottle of Tito's, they wouldn't allow me to buy it because my personal assistant is only 19. I explained my situation to the manager, Jessica, who kept looking at my assistant like she was a criminal, not the kind-hearted, selfless individual she is. I asked them how they expected people with disabilities to shop at her store, and she didn't have an answer. Jessica was completely disrespectful, and she acted as though I wasn't even human. This has to be the worst Frys that ever existed! They are out of stock of vital items or you have to ask employees to find it in the back because no one stocks the shelves. 80 percent of the time there is a digital coupon for an item that is not in the store or the store never carried. 50 percent of the self-checkout machines never work properly. Items marked on sale rarely are plugged in to ring up at the register and time is wasted having the cashier check on and confirm the sale price of the items. Once I had to alert employees they had a case full of shrimp out for sale that had expired weeks ago. YUK. Sale prices are mislabeled or left on items beyond the time of sale. The lady on the night shift at the customer service counter is rude and clueless about any Fry's policy. When I had a question about an item, she insisted the store did not do that, and when I insisted it did, she found a manager and the manager confirmed the store did have that policy, and I got it done. The pharmacy is horrific. They take days to fill vital prescriptions! There is an old lady cashier who wears her hair in a bun who is terrifyingly rude. She slams your prescription on the counter and won't answer questions, saying she is too busy. A young male pharmacy tech hangs up the phone if he can't solve a complicated issue and you have to call back and let the next person who answers deal with it. I went in today because the pharmacy shorted me on a liquid medicine supposed to last 2 weeks as prescribed, and I was almost out with a week left. The "pharmacist" said he could not help and refused to type anything into the notes about it. He said to return tomorrow when the "real" pharmacist was back and see what they could do? Huh? You shorted me the meds, just give me the right dose! Why did you open the pharmacy today without a "real" pharmacist? This Frys is a hot mess! read more

Placed an order for pick up today between 5-6. At about 4:50 I received a text that they're running an hour behind. I do not live very close to the store.... I arrived at their time, just after 6, and have been waiting over 45 minutes in my car. The manager told me they are not allowed to help customers with getting their digital coupons on the no user friendly App. That's so more customers will pay full price on sale items. I'm so disappointed... we bought a $50 visa gift card. Not only do they have a $5 activation fee which sucks, I know frys can't do anything about that, but went to use the card at check out at a store and wouldn't work. Tried a couple times, tried even typing it in, but for some reason the card was missing the security code on the back and missing 4 key numbers to using it on the actual card. Called frys and they said they couldn't do anything about it. Gave us a customer service number and they said call the number on the back of the card. So we did, and they said they couldn't help cause if the card isn't working then the balance is $0. Called frys again and let them know and all they said was sorry for the inconvenience.... I'm sorry but no, $50 may not seem like alot of money to you but it is. So even with keeping the receipt and activation slip no one could help. I just threw away $55... I have been shopping at Fry's for a long time in the local area. I find their prices to be reasonable as one can expect in this economy. I use this location along with the baby Fry's on Ray Road and Ranch Circle. The folks working here are so friendly! Shout outs to Cindy in the meat department, she is my fave, Mike in produce, Javiel and Andree at the registers, Jeff who I always see busy stocking shelves, and Lang who is one of the most helpful! Wow! I came here yesterday during the open house. They've remodeled this frys and its so spacious and huge. It basically has everything you need, even clothes! I think the most impressive parts were the vegetables, so many different kinds! From different colored fingerling potatoes, to even Chinese eggplants! And the bananas were the best looking bananas I've seen in awhile. Also, I went to Safeway the day before and there wasn't asparagus but these guys had a bunch! There were many sales too. The other thing I was impressed about was the Starbucks coffee aisle. Looks so fancy. I started going here instead of the Safeway across the street because I was tired of purchasing stuff and then getting home and finding out it was expired. Fry's is much better about keeping their inventory current, and I think that's because they have a lot more people shopping there. The prices are slightly better (usually), but the place is a lot more crowded, which is annoying. Their produce selection is slightly better than Safeway, meaning most of the plums and pears and stuff like that is rock hard, and the berries often are beat to hell or have some mold on some of them already, which isn't cool, but sometimes you get lucky, like today they had avocados that were just perfect. This location also has some toys and cleaning supplies and gardening and auto supplies and things like that. It's not like going to a Walmart or Target but it's nice to be able to pick up some extra things without making two stops. read more

We have been shopping at this location for 20+ years. It is sad to see them cut their employees hours because of the self service lanes. I was there recently and there were only two cashiers open and there were about 4-5 customers in each lane, and no 15 or less cashier. When I asked why there were only two lanes open I was advised by an employee "that's all that was scheduled ". I don't work at Frys, why should I have to check myself out?!?!? 4.5* rounded up It is quite suspect to me that in 3 years of trips to AZ, and nearly two living here that I'd never been to this Fry's in our hood. Further, as we were walking in, Scott said "this isn't like any Fry's you've been to;" oh-em-gee understatement for sure. They have sanitizers outside entry: yasssss! I think he was keeping it a secret afraid if I entered, I'd never want to leave... My first impression was it was very Target-esque: clothing, housewares, huge personal care/drug store, cookware/gadget areas, well stocked and reasonably priced grocery items, floral with a wide variety and price point on blooms and arrangements, bakery, Deli and salad bar area with seating, and a Starbucks with big couches, tables and huge TV. It pleased me greatly, but overwhelmed my ADD for a bit. Upon further perusal, this is a very clean and well organized store. There are a lot of staff members on the floor, and at their stations and every one I've encountered was friendly and welcoming. Of particular note was Denzel, who was our Customer Care Associate (CCA) last night; as we were being checked out he introduced himself with a huge smile and even shook my hand, he really loves his job and it shows. Denzel even asked how I like my groceries packed, and grouped them together in my plethora of reusable bags so that unpacking was a breeze. As we left, I complimented him on his cheerful disposition and for making our experience truly lovely; his reply: "that is why I'm a CCA!" with another big smile. I'm not usually chit-chatty at check out, but his energy and enthusiasm were contagious. Finally, again the prices are competitive, with some great deals, they are currently collecting water to donate to local non profit organizations which assist the less fortunate. Last night the store was filled with the aroma of baking brownies! I wish they were open 24 hours, as we shop at strange times. This is my new favorite place to shop. read more

My mom got the flu on Christmas night. As you can imagine we all hugged and gave kisses that night!!My dr called in Tamiflu and my insurance did not cover it. I found a coupon from good Rx to use at frys. I usually use Walgreens but It was much cheaper here. Frys was able to transfer my Rx and fill it in less than an hour !!!!! I work in this industry and let me tell you that is unheard of. This pharmacy staff went above and beyond and just gained a new customer!!! My sister has been stopped or somehow prevented from buying alcohol by the same person who supervises self checkout. She didn't accept her ID the 1st time because she said she has to wait 30 days after she turns 21 to buy alcohol. That's not true, as someone with an ALIC license and is learning bartending, and studying the Arizona State Law, the Arizona state law is that after turning 21 you can still use your vertical ID for 30 days until getting a horizontal ID. My sisters birthday was August 4th, and she still has a couple days left. This is the 2nd time the same cashier stopped her for that and embarrassed her in the self checkout. Get your policies straight and get your workers in check this was VERY unprofessional. I've also worked at a gas station for 9 months and carded SEVERAL individuals and know all about liquor laws and regulations in the state of Arizona. Don't shop here guys. read more

I had to ask four different people and when I went to ask the fourth, the blonde woman(who I had already asked for help the first time) treated me like a literal child, bobbing her head back and forth and acting all annoyed that I was looking for help again. I had a terrible time today trying to find what I needed for my gluten free child and I was told that everything is being dispersed throughout the store. The manager then said, "everything good?" I use to frequent this frys at least 3 times/week. All the staff is lovely, no complaints there. My gripe recently, is everytime I go shopping everything is being stocked! Shouldn't stocking be done after the store closes? Between the stocking, click-list shopping carts EVERYWHERE, and the obnoxious displays they put in the aisles, making it that much harder to navigate thru the aisles, I try to avoid this place as much as possible. This is THE go-to grocery store for all my friends and family in the area. I have been shopping here since this building first opened in 1995 as a Smitty's. Oh, how I loved Smitty's. I could go on for awhile about the classic Arizona grocery store, however, this review is about Fry's, so I will get back to the point. As with other 'Markeplace' stores, this has more than just groceries. Furniture, bedding/bath goodies, frames, clocks, candles, patio stuff, electronics, music, books and more. While this is a pretty big store, it doesn't seem as huge as some of those other "super" stores that are so overwhelmingly huge and everything is so spread out that just thinking about going from one end to the other makes me tired. And when it comes to groceries, there is much more than your average store. Good wine and beer selection, sushi stand, olive bar, deli with ready made (good) sandwiches, and a pretty robust nutrition/health food section. I love that I can get a frozen CPK pizza in one aisle and my soy milk, kefir, and Vita Coco in the next. Shish kabobs ready to cook and fresh ground pork (or beef) chorizo, perfect for breakfast burritos at home on the weekend. Not that pasty stuff that comes out of a tube. Tip: by making your own burritos, you can remove the grease before putting it in the eggs and avoid the orange grease dripping down your hand. While I love to shop at other stores, like Trader Joe's or Whole Foods, to find fun new items, I go to this Fry's when I need to stock up on the staples or if I'm not sure one of the other stores will have a specific item. This is my go to grocery. While I really like sprouts, the reality is that sometimes you need normal items stocked on the shelves of your local Fry's. In the last couple years this Fry's has really improved the overall performance of their fresh fruit and vegetables as well. They are clearly making a strong effort to keep up with sprouts and make sure to bring in the people who want high quality fresh food. I can't deny, this is also where I get all of my fresh meat and pork. I've just found that the other groceries in the area don't stack up well against the good quality in this store. I am a regular at this fry's market place went I enter I make a bee line to the clearance table near the back I have found some killer deals on cooking utensils top brands kitchen aid, oxo you name it I have seen it on these tables just need to look. If you watch the ads as well the meat seems to go on sale in rotations I food save a lot so there is money to be saved.
