a cupcake and a bottle of wine
Geneen R.

Very unassuming Winery. I love their Chocolate Covered Strawberry Wine. So yummilicious! I bought a few bottles last year and nursed them til this year. Love serving them with fresh strawberries and some good European chocolate. Or even a chocolate cupcake if that's what's on hand lol

So not gonna lie, we can be real wine snobs. My partner and I love going to wine country. We've…read morebeen to the Finger Lakes a few times and we actually haven't been to a winery with wine that we actually like. The scenery is always lovely. But the wine? Well, it's just not at all to our taste typically. But this was the first winery in the Finger Lakes that we actually enjoyed. Not only that, many of the tastes we tried were good. We stuck mostly to the most dry wines they had. We had their classic Riesling and it was good. We don't even usually enjoy Rieslings but this was dry and hit the spot on a hot day. There is very limited food here. On our visit, they had a charcuterie board with cheese. The meat was tasty. We didn't love the cheese but I was so hungry that I ended up eating most of it. It also came with candied almonds that were incredibly spicy and some crackers. Again, super starving so ate it all. Our server was friendly though his tastes weren't exactly to ours as it seemed liked he liked sweeter wines. Finally, we came here with kids and this place is perfect for that in the summer. They have a big field with lawn games. Our seat was right in front of the window and we could watch them play outside. It was perfect. Play time for kids and wine and relaxation for the adults.

Wiemer has been around since 1979, but they started really experimenting with biodynamic wine production in 2014. That's how I came to find the winery when I was researching which to visit when I was planning our trip. I'm interested in organic, biodynamic, and natural wines, and Hermann J. Wiemer has become a pioneer in biodynamic wines for the Finger Lakes region. (When we spoke about Hermann J. Wiemer at other wineries we visited that weekend and with people we met in the Finger Lakes, it was clear how much respect people have for Hermann J. Wiemer. Everyone had such nice things to say about the winery, that they are pioneers and examples of great winemaking in the region and that they are incredibly supportive of and helpful to younger, newer wineries in the region.) We had a reservation, which I recommend. Even though Hermann J. Wiemer is large, it's popular and they were running out of space for people who visited without reservations. The space is incredible and varied for different experiences. There's indoor seating and outdoor seating. Much of the indoor space has large open windows so you can see the vines and the property from your seat during your tasting. It was incredibly comfortable inside the winery on this very hot day. The tasting is incredibly flexible. They offer 1.25, 2.5, and 5 oz pours of every wine on their menu. This includes more than 20 wines - many Rieslings, several Chardonnays, Gewürztraminer, Grüner Veltliner, Blaufränkisch, Cabernet Franc, blends, sparkling wines, dessert wines, and more. The staff member who was with us through our tasting was friendly and incredibly helpful. With so many wines, she helped direct us to wines we might have more of an interest in trying. We spent an hour or so at the winery (at one point watching a rain storm through the windows) and took a few bottles home with us. I enjoyed the wines and the experience and have enormous respect for the reputation that Hermann J. Wiemer has built in the Finger Lakes. If you're interested in biodynamic wines, Hermann J. Wiemer should be on your list to visit. It's also just a very beautiful, wonderful space and business to visit in the region. I'd very happily return.

I loved the varying options and timely service there. I think the two things to note would be that this felt like a winery you could just go hang with friends at and enjoy good conversation. While we did that, I was really looking forward to wine education from our server/ somm and a good conversation around the wines and history. Instead, our server was visibly worried and irritated by the prospect of the trolley guests. It was just a lackluster experience from a service perspective. At least on the winery side. I also wish I knew we should grab food first then bring to the winery side, but we ended up spending some extra time on property due to not realizing the deli/ winery set up. I'd give it another shot but would honestly plan this as a more relaxing/ chill spot to stop at for some decent wine and tasty food.

This place was a little surprise a little jewel box of a tasting room…read more The wines which are now blended by Nathan K or the owners son are some you should seriously try. He's trained at the best of the best and it shows. The family owned this place with a group but as time went on they went their separate ways and the family kept it for themselves but needed a winemaker and they would have one in their son. Mom and dad were there and Mom did our tasting. She was lovely and warm and we talked about a lot of wines and how things evolved. The wines are perfectly nuanced and for a serious wine drinker you can appreciate them. It's not a big spot but they have a lovely little area outside and I don't doubt they get slammed in the warmer months. It's 4.5/5 Just give them a whirl... They have parking

They have a…read moreline of "Nathan K" wines, and since my husband is Nathan K, we immediately made this part of our trip to FLX. The winery is slightly confusing because it is named Hickory Hollow as the Yelp page suggests, but they serve Nathan K wines in addition to Hickory Hollow wines. It can be confusing for those looking for one or the other! But with some searching, we ultimately found the location we were looking for. We stopped on a pretty overcast and rainy day, and we found ourselves to be the only ones in the tasting room. The room is large indoors and with ample seating on the patio outside for nicer days. The interior features a lot of wood themes with low tables as well as bar seating / standing for the actual tastings. Lots of open space, so it would be conducive to a group of folks or even a party! Upon arrival, we decided to do a tasting. We did a tasting with the only employee on the ground, who we learned is the daughter of the owner and brother to Nathan K. She was really lovely to talk with (loved chatting about city vs FLX life and the food scene in all parts of NY and PA with her), but she didn't provide the *most* detail and explanation for each of our wines. No big deal, but having a server or sommelier walk us through our tasting is our preference to really make the experience shine. The wine was solid - not our favorite that we went to, but their reds definitely stood out from the rest. We had a nice time chatting with our server, and we were happy that Nathan K himself walked through the room during our tasting so we could introduce Nathan K to Nathan K! We wound up leaving with a bottle of Cab Franc, which was one of our faves from the tasting and of course, bore the Nathan K label, which my husband adored. I would definitely like to make it back and enjoy the outdoor area with a more informed wine tasting in the future! But thank you for indulging my husband with his own labeled wine!

We had a great tasting with a lovely older woman with glasses - I'm kicking myself for not writing this sooner when my name memory was fresh. She was so knowledgeable and really indulged me on my questions on each of the wines, as well as, the history of the winery and area. I also appreciated how she prepared each pour by swirling a bit of the wine in the glass prior to prevent picking up notes from the previous wine. She also made our visit special by showing us a short movie about the history of Keuka Spring Vineyards which was SO cool! Both my husband and I enjoyed almost all of the reds we tried, although I also was pleasantly surprised by the Chardonnay and Riesling I tried! But the Cabernet Franc + the Blaufränkisch were our favorites!!! We enjoyed a glass of the latter after our tasting with a beautiful view of Keuka lake. There was also a food truck on site that offered small tasty bites to enjoy while relaxing in the patio/ lawn area. We will definitely return on our next trip!

Their wines are always good and often are crowd pleasers. One tweak I'd like to see to give it a 5/5 is to not keep their reds and chardonnays so cool. We didn't get the flavor of those wines as much as if they were closer to room temp. Definitely will still be returning! Always a must for finger lakes trips!!
