Ice cream

This simple old-timey business is located on the north western part of Lone Pine as you're driving through towards Bishop. The food is delicious and made to order. Our burgers and fries were super hot, and you can request to have your ice cream after you're done with your meal! The staff is friendly and kind. The outdoors area is well-gated and we felt safe letting our son run around and play while we ate. This is a cash-only business.

Driving up the 395 towards Mammoth and needed lunch. We try to support local, family owned business's when we can so we decided to give this place a shot. The staff was friendly. Outside dining area and ordering area was clean. They had hand sanitizer and staff was wearing masks. Prices are a little high for 2 basic burgers, 1 with cheese and onion rings. $20.20. No drinks. Burgers needed seasoning for sure. Onion rings were delicious and hot. Not terrible but nothing more than basic. They look to have a fun, kid friendly menu with sundaes, soft serve and milk shakes.

Cute mom & pop shop, right off the main road. Can't go wrong with the chocolate dipped soft serve! Crispy seasoned fries, made to order. Bring your dollas, cash only!

This is kind of a tough rating for me. It's good in that the food comes out in a reasonable timeframe, the burgers and fries are fresh made, and if you're doing soft server that's even faster. The outdoor seating is a few good quality metal picnic tables, a majority of them under awnings/shade, and parking is sufficient. The minuses are, they're cash only, and the food honestly is nothing special. So as pleasant as it is to support a local restaurant it's also hard for me to say I would make this a regular stop up and down this stretch of US-395.

Dog friendly outdoor seating

Charming roadside burger and ice cream joint. Cash only! There is no indoor seating but a nice grassy area with picnic tables next to the restaurant (and it's dog friendly). Burgers and ice cream are the standouts.

Leave southern Orange County in the morning, head up the old 395 up to Mammoth and about the time you reach Lone Pine, you'll find yourself hungry for lunch. Lucky for you, after miles of open fields and shabby farmhouses, you'll come upon Frosty Chalet. Frosty has the appearance of an old style woody architecture with a grassy area and picnic benches available for mild weather. Lots of parking is available behind the building and along the front. Prices reflect the cost for a glimpse and taste of hamburgers from days gone by. Slightly higher than you'd expect at today's fast food joints. Double cheeseburgers go down easily after a long drive. Order a side of fries to top it all off. It feels good to walk about take in some fresh air, stretch your legs, and enjoy a flavorful chocolate malt. Make Frosty your next rest stop on your way up north!

Coffee Shake

I had a coffee shake- best thing I've had! Kids had a soft serve swirl with sprinkles that they thoroughly enjoyed!!!

10 stars for this little slice of delicious nostalgia! The soft serve ice cream is made beautifully, very creamy and absolutely delicious, the vanilla was buttery the chocolate perfection, can't decide, get a swirl! These folks are so nice and welcoming too!

We were on a fishing trip and noticed this place when we were getting gasoline, as a fan of hometown businesses we had to give it a try. As you can see from the pictures everything looked great, the ice cream was as good as any chain restaurant and the service was with a smile. The music being played was cool (70's) and the help was swaying to the tunes...lol! You can sit inside or outside so take your pick, parking was convenient and there were plenty of spaces. I love a busy place and this place was right up my alley, I can be a regular here I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Old fashion swirl. Perfect after a visit to Whitney portal. Cute little grass area w benches to eat.

Might have been an off day but my burger just wasn't that great and my kid, who is a self proclaimed burger aficionado, felt the same.

The location was clean and tidy and the staff were reasonably friendly so that's why it wasn't a 1 star but really that's the only good in this experience. I've had the misfortune of encountering some unpleasant locals from Lone Pine on recent trips, bitter about tourists (who literally provide them with their income and business potential), and after trying most of the restaurants in town, I would be happy to see all of them fail. It's the same business model across the board - mediocre to straight up bad food, crazily overpriced, and zero attempt at service with a smile because if you're there and you're eating and you're not from there, then you're captive and they can deliver whatever they want which is usually minimal effort. The BBQ was $70. For two people. It consisted of two to-go boxes, one with brisket, a baked potato, and some Mac n cheese, the other with brisket & pulled pork, a baked potato & the saltiest baked beans I've ever tasted, two pieces of soggy cornbread, some spicy bbq sauce, butter packets and utensils. The brisket was all fat. The pulled pork had no flavor. The beans tasted like salt, and the bread was soggy. For $70. No drinks, no dessert. We had actually come to Lone Pine this time with a cooler and our own food with zero intention of buying food from the many awful restaurants in town, but after a long hike decided to try the barbecue. What a mistake. I can't wait for private equity to move in and turn Main Street into a strip mall of chain restaurants and hotels. At least then, the food might be worth the money.

Our server was young and still learning, but he was trying his best, and you have to remember, everyone has to start somewhere. Lone Pine only has an estimated population of 1,220 to 1,439 people, so there's probably not a whole lot of job applications for them to choose from when hiring. This ain't L.A. Let's get around to what's really important, the food was very good, and the beer was cold. We were told they had Modelo on tap, but it turned out that they were out, so we asked one of the guys working there what he would suggest as a beer without a whole lot of overbearing hops flavor, and he suggested the "Mojave Red" which comes from The Indian Wells Brewery about an hour South down Highway 395, and it was a great recommendation, and a really enjoyable beer. We liked it a lot!! So, look at the picture of the glass of beer I was drinking. It has perfect 'beer lacing' which means the glass is very clean, and is free of oils, grease, lipstick, or soap residue, and to me, clean dishes are just as important as good service, and that's why I give them 5 stars.

The pie was served ice cold and the 10yr old who was waiting on us forgot to warm the pie, forgot I ordered a chocolate sundae, forgot our drink order, forgot we needed utensils to eat and basically didn't know anything he was being asked to do. The whole experience was insane. The decor was dark and dingy and the A/C was barely on. It was hot and muggy inside. Save your money and just go somewhere else. The burgers were ok but I could've gone to a steakhouse and been served by adults for what it cost to eat here.

Great stop on a road trip!…read more Finally tried this place after driving by so many times on our trips to Mammoth. Arrived right before 11:00 on a Sunday in October and there was already a line. So be prepared to wait! It's worth it! Lots of outdoor and indoor seating. You pick up the food inside where there's also a small bar you can order drinks ( coffee, soda and beer) while you wait. We ordered the pulled pork and tri tip sandwich with a side of cole slaw. Both meats were really flavorful. You can add toppings of your choice to the sandwiches. I mixed my cole slaw with the pulled pork, perfect combo. The sandwich bread was so good! Similar to Hawaiian roll taste, soft and a little sweet. Good portions of food! The tri tip had such a good smoky flavor and tender. Is it expensive? Yes, but you're paying for quality food in a small town. It's a vibe. Dogs welcome. Make sure they are on a leash. Definitely recommend! Foodies must try.

We stumbled upon this BBQ Joint and we had always seen it when we pass but with lots of smoke that always smelled good so we gave it a try. We had their huge platter with 2 sides and 2 drinks and a bit of everything on there. The sides we got were potato salad and Mac n cheese. The potato salad was a bit too creamy and had lots of mustard for my liking but enjoyed the chunks of celery and egg and potato. It had an ok flavor. The Mac n cheese was my husbands favorite. Their meat selection was great! The pulled pork was a bit too sweet for our liking but was good. Everybody just has different styles. On another note their BBQ sauce was BOMB. I made myself little tri tip sandwiches and added that in there and it was yummy! Their Tri Tip was my favorite and would def get that again. Love the outside atmosphere and the tables. They were clean had lots of open tables outside and even had another inside are you can also eat thru the American flags.. the staff was very friendly and helpful and had some big smiles and greeted you as well nice touch. The area Where you pick up your food was very well organized and clean and they had a great system going on. Loved the little souvenir shop they had there as well if you are visiting you can take some fun stuff home with you including some packaged meat. Overall experience was great would def have their Tri Tip again 10/10!!
