Okay, who doesn't love cupcakes?! Yeah, that's what I thought... I've never met anyone who doesn't like cupcakes, and I've never met anyone who didn't like my recommendation for Frosted over Sprinkles(^_^) Frosted was established in 2005, and originally had 3 locations, LA, Hermosa Beach and 2nd St in Long Beach. The LA location closed it's doors a few years ago, which was sad because they had the best cupcakes on Highland! Anywho, my local shop is 2nd st, and I've been a regular since 2007, and I will never stray from my lovely Frosted!! Customer Loyalty has been earned and established! Woo!
On any given day, you can pop into the shop, and be greeted by at least 2 very happy and upbeat gals manning the display and register. And your eyes, and nose will be greeted by the sight and smell of at least 15-20 cupcakes(at $2.95/each or $30/dozen).. did I mention that's not including their seasonal flavors or their flavors of the month?? And, sometimes...flavor of the week. It's a sensory tease, and I love it! I've tried every single cupcake offered, including all seasonal/monthly specials as of May 2015 (^_^) yeah I'm proud of that. Because each cupcake is moist, fresh, and hand frosted. And the ingredients aren't prepackaged or sitting in a freezer or whatever. They are just melt in your mouth amazing. They aren't topped with a huge dollop of frosting like Sprinkles either! Instead, each flavor has a unique frosting and sprinkles/shaved chocolate decorations. Frosted also offer mini(chocolate, white, red velvet only, and $35 for 2 dozen minumim) and giant cupcakes(chocolate, white and revived only, 48 hours advanced notice REQUIRED and $4.95/each) , pup cakes for your canine babies($.75/each or $2 for a bag of 3), frosting shots (all flavors available! I love the Nutella and Chocolate, and gingerbread and pumpkin during seasonal, $.50/each), hi-tops (which are 2 small cupcakes with a dollop of frosting in the middle. Available in 3 flavors, chocolate, red velvet and salted caramel. $1.45/each, $15/dozen). And for a fun treat, ice cream filled cupcakes! Only 4 flavors available for those, and they vary by day so call ahead to see what they're serving that day, and they run at $4.95/each.
My personal favorites include the Nutella cupcake, salted caramel hi-tops, Gingerbread and Pumpkin seasonal, Mexican Chocolate and cinnamon chocolate (May's flavors of the month!), and the chocolate/peanut butter! My bf loves the lemon and lemon cream cheese one, I'm indifferent but he's a lemon freak and will order at least 2. Bear in mind..he DOES NOT like sugary things, especially things with a lot of frosting LOL! And HE gives it a 5 star rating. All are delicious, with their own unique flavors. I can't say I wouldn't not eat any one of them, but I definitely have the go-tos.
So the cool thing about FC is that during Belmont Shore's Annual Summer Stroll N' Savor, they offer their hi-tops in all 3 flavors for potential patrons to sample. The hi-tops are small, maybe 1-2 bites, but they pack a ton of sweet and savory goodness. If you attend the SN'S, I recommend the Salted Caramel hi-tops as most people seem to be more skeptical about purchasing it because it says SALT and has sea salt crystals on the frosting..so it seems intimidating, but it's like the perfect blend of sweet and salty. I grab a few when I get a special visit because it cures thag craving in a heartbeat!! YUM! Oh, and the include hilarious little toothpick topped with funny little sayings, and even birthday candles! Ordering it for here? They serve it up on a cute little tray with a wooden or plastic fork! And they offer milk, water and some juices too.
The only pitfall is that 2nd St parking bllloooowwwwssss... many times I will make circles waiting for a spot close to Frosted to open just because I hate carrying my boxes a long distance LOL. Can't risk dropping them, or pushy people running into me! Going midday during the week is usually the best bet. They have a cute little cupcake iron design out front. Frosted is at the end of 2nd St, near Livingston just past the Farmers & Merchants bank. It's not hard to miss, they have a HUGE white lit sign high enough up that you'll be hard pressed to miss!
5 stars because I've been a loyal customer for nearly 8 years and I've never had a bad experience here! You can't be sad around cupcakes okay? You just can't (^_~) if you haven't had the pleasure of delighting your tongue with the deliciousness that is Frosted..you need to change that ASAP! read more
