My oven at home doesn't work. If it did, I would bake my own cupcakes instead of going to all these places and paying $2-4 for each. :( The only time I get to bake is when I visit my parents' house. But I needed my cupcake fix ASAP.
I've been DYING to try this place out for a while now, and my boyfriend & I finally went last Sunday.
This place is on 2nd Street in Long Beach, across from Lucille's, Yogurtland, and next to The Children's Place. We parked in some random parking lot a couple lights down, and luckily the person parked there before us still had 23 minutes left on their meter.
Frosted Cupcakery isn't huge at all, I'd say probably a bit bigger than the Crumbs on Larchmont in LA. At least they have a few tables & chairs inside for people to hang around, read a book, and eat their cupcakes. Their regular cupcakes (which are a bit smaller than the big cupcakes that Crumbs sell) cost $2.75, $30 for a dozen. They have jumbo ones for $4.95 (in red velvet, chocolate, and royal white only), but I believe you have to give them a 48 hour notice if you'd want some. And they have little meat pupcakes for your dog!
I picked out 4 cupcakes. My boyfriend picked 1.
We chose:
-2 Red Velvet / Cream Cheese
-1 Chocolate / Caramel Buttercream Toffee
-1 Chocolate / Cookies N Cream Buttercream
-1 Royal White / Chocolate Buttercream
- 1 Chocolate / Chocolate Buttercream (for my boyfriend; he's a chocolate lover)
*Red Velvet:
Scrumptious. Moist. The cream cheese frosting is PERFECT for me. It's not excessively sweet & that's how I like it. They don't put a TON of frosting on top, but I don't mind that at all. The frosting tastes very similar to how I make my cream cheese frosting so I just kept thinking how I wish I could just bake these at home! WAH. But it's delicious regardless. Ah, I just love that taste of cream cheese. My favorite. Oh yeah, and on top had a candy of the Frosted cupcake logo. Cute!
*Chocolate/Caramel:
WOW, this cupcake was GOOOOOD! I love toffee and caramel and all that sweet stuff that almost kills you. This cake was moist & the chocolate was just right. I loved this new flavor; very new to me. Good job Frosted.
*Oreo:
This was moist as well. The frosting had that great cookies n cream taste (that's my favorite ice cream flavor too). And it had a cute mini oreo on top :)
*Royal white / chocolate:
It was OKAY. I expected more flavor out of this one. I guess the chocolate was just a little overpowering that I hardly tasted the cake.
*Chocolate / chocolate:
This was my boyfriend's. He pulled the cupcake out of the box & said, "Alright, let's see if this cupcake is worth the $3." He took a bite and then said, "....YUP. It was." LOL, and I was so dumbfounded because he's picky with chocolate & seriously hates all this cupcake / cake hype & believes it's all overrated (which it is lol). But he really liked it! Definitely for chocolate lovers. I really really enjoyed this one.
Overall, I enjoyed their cupcakes, wayyyy more than I enjoyed Crumbs. I'm giving this place 4 stars until I try their ice cream-filled cupcakes! Til next time Frosted! read more
