I got my first serious running shoes here a few months ago. Serious, because I was willing to take the time and do my research, and willing to spend the money to get a good pair of shoes. I signed up for their online newsletter and got a coupon for $10 off, plus they have a parking lot. I'm mostly sold on a place once I know it's easy to park. Maybe sad, but true. I got great customer service, and time was really taken to watch me walk, and pick out the right shoes for my foot and stride. I already owned the insoles they suggested, so no pressure to buy a bunch of add-ons. The only bummer, is that they don't have a treadmill in store. You can take the shoes outside for a test run, but I wasn't dressed for running. I would have much prefered if they had a treadmill in-store for a quick test run. When I realized I'd arrived in LA sans running shoes, and had committed to a 10 mile trail run with friends while there, I immediately searched this place out, as I'd remembered hearing good things when I used to live there. While I'd hoped for more expert advice, the help I received was better than, say, a general sporting good store (I'm looking at you REI). The sales guy was able to identify a few neutral trail running shoes, and after much walking around, I found a pair that didn't feel like they would result in whimpering and limping 4 miles into a run. Coming from a town that has a number of running shoe brand outlets, it was a bit painful for me to pay full LA retail, but it allowed me to run the race without pain. 4 stars for service, 2 stars for price = 3 stars average. read more

I was getting blisters on the arches of both my feet each time I ran a decent distance. I did some research online and most discussion sites recommended I get insoles. So I went to Village Runner in Redondo Beach with this information and my newly bought shoes. The salesman informed me it was my shoes that needed replacing so I bit the bullet and bought another $120 pair of shoes. A few months later when I ran a 1/2 marathon the blisters happened again. I then took my shoes to Top to Top and asked the salespeople there about insoles. They said again I need new shoes it's not the insoles. I didn't fall for it this time and instead took my shoes to FrontRunners. The educated staff watched me walk and concluded it was insoles I needed. It was days before the Nautica Triathlon and the $20 insoles saved me painful blisters and a strong finish. I cannot say anything but good positive things about Frontrunners and it really disappoints me that the other running outlets in the area are really just looking to make a buck. read more

Hate to ruin the average. There are actually 3 Frontrunners stores in the same shopping center, one selling shoes, and two others selling women's and men's wear. Everything written about the shoe store is absolutely true. Excellent service and selection. I buy all my running shoes, socks, stopwatches, and athletic sunglasses there. I probably drop $300 or so a year in the shoe store. The men's store is relatively new, having opened up in early 2007. The athletic wear selection is terrible if you are a serious runner or athlete. This store offers merchandise that is more fashionable than functional. You would think you're shopping in some LA cliche. One star deduction. Otherwise, Frontrunners has made a big effort to support the runners' community in WLA. read more

Due to all the 405 construction it has become increasingly annoying/frustrating/hectic to work on the Westside and have to commute back home. I now run a lot of errands and have dinner around here to wait out traffic before I head home. Believe me, my wallet is feeling a lot lighter these days. I have decided to lose some of the pounds I have been putting on from eating out more often by going to the gym. I needed a good pair of training/running shoes and I have heard a lot about FrontRunners and they are open till 8 so I made a trip there after work. I am not a workout guru or marathon runner or anything like that so I was a bit clueless when it comes to specific types of shoes. FrontRunners has a huge selection of women's shoes. The entire wall is covered with colorful shoes and looks like a rainbow. I was a bit intimidated at first because I had no idea what each shoe is geared towards, I was choosing them based on how cute they looked. Luckily, the sales manager Niles came up and asked if I needed help. I told him I was looking for gym shoes and I mostly do cardio. He pointed out a few that he thought would be good for me. He was so helpful and I felt like he actually knew a lot about each shoe, he wasnt just trying to make a sale. After trying them all on he actually recommended I buy one of the less expensive ones, so I knew he wasnt just telling me to buy the most expensive one. Another great thing about this place is they let you run around the block with the shoe to see how you like it. I ran around the shopping center it was in and fell in love with these cute Asics that I purchased. Nice clean store, free parking and great service. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that needs a nice pair or shoes or someone like me that needs some expert advice. I was getting ready to run the LA Marathon and was at a loss for where to find some Glide to prevent the ever-annoying runner's chafe... one of my co-workers had suggested FrontRunners because their staff was so helpful. She was right, the people were very nice! They were well stocked with a wide variety of shoes, fuel belts and all of your long distance running needs. Prices leave something to be desired however, so I may need to check out some other running stores in LA, although for anyone in the area, this is definitely a solid option for runners. read more

If you run on a regular basis, it's definitely worth going to a running specialty store to get fitted. Not only will you get special attention to find the shoe that is right for your foot/posture/stride, but you also get their wonderful return policies. Yes, it's always going to be cheaper to do some research online and order something discounted. But with running shoes, sometimes you don't know how well they work (or don't) until you've run in them a few times. Of the many pairs of shoes I've bought at FrontRunners over the years, all have worked out great, except my most recent pair. I was really embarrassed to try to return a pair of used shoes, but the manager was really great, and exchanged them with no fuss for a pair that worked better. (It was also a cheaper pair, so I got some money back too - woo hoo!) They send you $10 off coupons for your birthday, too. read more

I've been coming here off and on since the 1980s. For better or worse, this is my go-to place when I don't know exactly what I want but know that I need quality running gear (shoes, clothes, socks, packs, etc) -- AND don't care about paying full price. I believe in karma, so my only TIP here would be - IF you get good service and the salesperson helps you find what you need = BUY IT. Don't nip off with a mental note and purchase online. Walked in to this place with a pocketful of cash ready to buy some shoes. Bought a pair here about 2 months back, was treated with a proper fitting and great service. Today I could have been a ghost. The dudes at the counter just stared at me like they did not give a F. The place was empty. I browsed through the shoes and even popped my head back in to see what's up. Nothing. They did nothing. I kept lookout for a bit and walked to the counter and they just kept talking. I walked out with my cash and am on my way someplace else. Customer service here=total buzzkill. Wow I've been a loyal customer for many years and recent experiences here have been brutal. I purchased a $500 sport watch and could not get it to work properly and was stonewalled telling me it's between myself and the manufacturer. They would not take it back simply because we lost one portion of the outer box. But the recent experience I had with runners orthotics was far worse. I treated myself and four of my friends to new pairs of running shoes. We've never used those custom soles before and we're not difficult to convince that these would be great as a custom fit in addition to our pricy running shoes. At $200 a pop the sales guy asked the manager to come and give a discount since it was two for one and the manager said no unless they were identical. How could orthotics be identical? He was sooo rude I swore I'd never go back even at that point. Far worse though was we ALL got terrible blisters from those useless orthotics and we ended up discarding them all at a waste of $1,000. Two of us couldn't run for weeks because of this! When we returned to show our blisters we were told it was a no return policy. What a scam! Sell me something I don't need that actually HURT US. This place is not what it used to be and I'm telling everyone I know not to buy from FrontRunners. I could never trust them again. read more

I have bought my running shoes from this store for years and have always had a good experience but today, not so much. I arrived around 3:30 pm on a Saturday and there were people waiting to get in and a salesperson came out and said it would be a 1/2 hour wait and I told him I just wanted to buy one pair of socks and he said it didn't matter, I would have to wait. It was a bit confusing because it seemed like they were staggering people like they did during the height of the pandemic, but other stores aren't doing that anymore, so it didn't make sense. It turned out that they were short staffed but they never told us that. They said there were too many customers in the store. What upset me the most is that I was trying to clarify that if I left and came back in a half hour would I keep my place in line and the sales person said to me "I could have helped 4 people during the time that I have been talking to you!" and then he dismissively just walked away. That really wasn't very nice. I've worked in customer based businesses for years and if you are honest with customers and let them know what is going on, they will usually be patient, but it was hard to be patient because they were blaming the problem on too many customers rather than being honest that they were short staffed. I probably will find some place else to buy my shoes in the future. read more

I am so excited to have such a fabulous store by my house for sneakers and work out clothes! We went in last saturday when they were having a huge sale! I mean great sneakers at 40% off!!!!! Everyone on staff here is so friendly and know what they are talking about. Ive been to many sneaker stores and i knew more than them! They take there time and see what your type of activity you do to get the right sneakers. Just a few doors down in the same plaza they have a clothing store! Wow I could be at these stores all day! This place has a good selection of running shoes and some casual shoes. The staff is pretty knowledgable and friendly. Some of the staff will try to do the upsell which is with any place but they do not do the hard sell. If you are thinking about taking up running you should come here and get fitted. As others have mentioned, they will measure your feet and look at your arches and match a shoe to your fit. The only thing I have not seen them do that other running shoe stores do is watch you run to determine your pronation. Maybe this is something you have to ask them. read more

My new athletic shoe store. Period. Came in and Sean helped me. Called ahead and he had the items I wanted ready for me to try on in multiple variations of my size. Put the shoes on my feet and helped me test them (I'm not in the habit of buying running shoes, so wasn't even sure about my proper size... 10.5 "ee" for the record) Had a very enthusiastic and helpful attitude. I felt like they really wanted to find the right shoe and fit for my feet. After recommended inserts for my super-high arch, and some special running socks (turns out running in cotton regular socks is some kin of blister-spawning horrible idea), I was out the door with the most comfortable pair of shoes I have had in a long time. Pricey, well over $200 for everything, but I feel like the service and quality of the product merit the price tag. Will absolutely return here for my future running needs, without reservation, a well-earned 5 star rarity! read more

I've been here plenty, and will go back again, no doubt, because of the convenience of location and the ease of parking. But FrontRunnders Shoes strikes me as too pricey for what you get. The staff is well trained, courteous, and attentive. But why one of them tried to tell me I overpronate and need a supportive running shoe is beyond me. (He was also trying to sell me a more pricey shoe, so maybe that clouded his judgment.) Thankfully, I know my feet and I know what shoes work for me, so I just stuck with that. I find that the apparel tends to be more fashion-oriented than pragmatic. For example, I like to run in either short cut, traditional running shorts or in compression shorts. A couple months ago I couldn't find any short cut shorts when I was there. The sales staff tried to sell me longer cut (mid thigh) shorts and didn't have an explanation as to why they don't carry shorter shorts. And just the other day when I was there, the compression shorts they had were all the 'wear under other shorts' variety, not the kind I'd feel comfortable just wearing solo. Still, they do have all the staples you'll need for running and I wouldn't hesitate to shop there or refer somone there. But in the end I guess I'm just a "Sports Basement" kind of guy because I wasn't overly impressed with this place." read more

Absolutely everything you need from a running shoe store. I am about to go to U.S. Army bootcamp and I needed to get proper running shoes, so they measured my foot on the spot, used computer and a special thingy for feet. I have also ordered those specific custom made cushions (its kind of pricy, but last for couple years and I am flat footed with some other little problems and that cushion helps out a lot), but you do not have to do that.
