We made arrangements to have the tree removed immediately. Because of the nature of my situation he had to rearrange a couple things to make sure that he got to my house immediately. I was quite impressed. I seen all the different types of equipment he had so he removed the tree with care even though it was close to my house. When he was done, the stump was ground chips all picked up and filled. He also made a recommendation for me to get a exterminator due to the fact that the tree had been infested with carpenter ants. Not only is he a professional in his craft he also cares about the homeowner. I knew that because he had to rearrange his schedule and also make a recommendation to make sure that my house would be protected due to the fact it was infested with ants.

Their quote was totally reasonable for a full day job that involved cutting down and removing 7 large trees and 2 small ones (with stump grinding for 4 that were between the sidewalk and street, thus preventing a tripping hazard near the sidewalk) in addition to pruning several large Japanese Sawara trees, one very large Magnolia and two large spruce/pines. The crew and foreman were skilled and friendly, professional and polite. When they were done, they made sure to clean up completely. So: A+ for the tree work itself. The front office was also excellent. They promptly emailed me a professional contract (meaning: itemized and complete), and they responded immediately to my request for their Proof of Insurance documentation. I mention these Front Office things because not every tree company does them, even if they may do good tree work, and it's nice to have everything totally clear and written down. Prevents hassles and disagreements afterward. At the signing of the contract, Aspen gave me an accurate wait time based on how busy they were. Five stars for Aspen Tree Expert Co. We went back and forth discussing different paver options, styles, layout ideas, and pricing. After several site visits, we agreed on a final scope and signed agreement. Once the work finally began and the trees/shrubs were already removed, Francisco stopped the project and told me I would now need to pay an additional $1,000 because the patio would require a step. He claimed this made it a "different project." As a homeowner, I relied on the contractor's expertise. I clearly explained what I wanted from the beginning, and Francisco had visited the site multiple times before agreeing to the price. If a step was required, that should have been identified during the estimating and planning process -- not after demolition had already started. When I pushed back, I was told he could simply "put the trees back and refund the money." While I did receive a refund, I was ultimately left with removed landscaping, dead trees sitting in my garden bed, and no patio project completed. The most frustrating part was that everything had already been discussed, measured, signed, and agreed upon beforehand. Overall, the experience felt very unprofessional and poorly planned.
