GET YOUR SICK PUPPIES HERE. We purchased a beautiful dapple Dachshund here in October 2019. We spent full two amazing days with our happy puppy before rushing him to the emergency vet clinic to then find out he had the Parvo-virus. After fighting hard for a few days, we made to tough call to put him down. After contacting the owner, Leonard, he was able to cancel the loan. That's it. But almost four months (it's now the end of January) of excuses, consistently being left on hold hoping I'd hang up, our refund still has not been processed and we're sitting on a couple grand worth of vet bills for a pup that already cost a couple grand plus to start. That which he said multiple times he would assist with. At one point, he actually said he would mail us a check the next day. Still no check, Leonard. If you're looking to over spend a lot of money and experience the heart break of helping a loved one pick out their first pet and then watch them put it down a few days later.. look no further. Clearly this place is in it for the money and not for the animals or the customers. My son had his heart set on a kitten and we had them hold it til the next day. Spoke with them that morning and told them we would be in to get it that afternoon. When we arrived they had sold it to someone else. Claiming it was just a little miscommunication. Place is over priced to begin with for a animal you can get for free but my son was willing to pay the price for that particular cat. Got this lovely as a pup, an AKC registered "Pomeranian", but as you can see the tail is curled and not flat and there is not the double coat, or any other characteristic but the size... so what do I have?? I have an AKC Mini Spitz... same family, not the same dog... so read the paperwork and then debate it, since what they say they are selling isn't necessarily what you are buying and well if you try to return it, well like I said debate it... on a positive note, she is sweet but very active, but I was looking for a Pom that is not hyperactive... As an update, April 2019, we cannot get a copy of the pedigree because she is not a Pomeranian, so there may be AKC something but without DNA testing we don't know for sure... read more

He definitely has resold puppy mill dogs. A Poochon (I'm doubting the Poodle /Bichon Frise mix) we purchased was clipped down to the skin and was fixed. Reputable breeders will not do this. I believe my pup was a rescue dog and Frontier Pets resold him to us. The owner is confused what puppy mill means. The breeders do have papers and make it look like an awesome setup on pics. But the dogs are kept as stock animals and constantly bred. This type of dogs need clipped once a month and comb every day. read more

On the 31 of October I got a mini schnauzer from this store. My little guy was so fun, however he became ill with a respiratory problem and although many vet visits, we lost him after only three weeks. As you can imagine I was heart broken. We called the store and they were so wonderful. I couldn't go in right away, so on Monday November 26th we went to the store to find out what our options were. I was still upset and my husband had to do the talking. Long story short we left that day with another mini schnauzer. We've had him three weeks, he's very healthy and so fun. This store sold me a dog with a health guarantee and the dog almost died 2 days later from sever Kennel cough that had progressed to pneumonia, and sever dehydration. Between the 2 different vets I had to rake the dog to, the over night vet stay, and the booster shots for my other two dogs to prevent kennel cough in them I spent over an addition $800 on a $3000 dollar Corgi. The store has decided to not honor the health guarantee after having me send them a copy of the vet bills, not once, not twice, but 3 times. read more

I haven't been in a couple weeks but today I went in and saw they had Guinea pigs. now, I never thought the animals in this store were taken care of properly EVER. but as someone who owns Guinea pigs my self, these animals were not given the proper care. I noticed they had no hay so I decided to look for a manager. when I brought my concerns to her she shot me down saying that "they get hay in the morning because if they have it all day they will get fat". now anyone who has done even a tiny bit of research on these animals will know that they need access to hay at all times. it's super important for their gut health and teeth. she did not seem to care about my reasonings and I feel like if a store does not show or is knowledgeable on these animals then they DO NOT need to be sold there. as who ever buys them, they will not know the proper care they need. i am very disgusted and disappointed for a local store like this to not take of the animals they have. if you can't take in proper advice/critism on how to care for them, then this place needs to be shut down. read more

My husband and I stopped in because we needed a muzzle to wrap an injured paw on one of our dogs. We were waiting in line and in front of us was an older couple who was crying to the cashier. They bought a puppy from this store who was sick and ended up dying, but not before it got their other dog extremely sick. It was heartbreaking to hear this. We put the muzzle back and walked out because there is no way we're supporting a store that sells sick dogs. It is so sad to see all the puppies in the tiny cages, with urine and feces in the cage for who knows how long. read more

Yet another location for this puppy mill chain. The times I have been in here has been the least convincing that these puppies are from puppy mills. The dogs act dopey and lethargic and the staff does not clean up after the puppies promptly at all. The puppies were playing and rolling around in their own feces. Maybe someday the puppy mill pet shops will become illegal and shut down. In the meantime DO NOT BUY THAT PUPPY IN THE WINDOW because you will get heartache later down the road because the dog is not likely through a registered breeder and many health problems will arise, trust me I have been there done that. read more

The animals look so depressed. A few months back Pet City had a cage cram full of tiny feeder mice. While I understand that these mice are simply snack food for snakes & the like, there was too many mice in that cage to the point where mice were simply passing out from exhaustion and having other mice crawl on top of the passed out mice in an attempt to escape. Cruel and heartbreaking. They do have a wide selection of leashes, collars, and random pet items. But, I personally wouldn't purchase anything to help continue the tragedy that's going at Pet City. read more

On October 5th, 2011 we purchased what we were told was an AKC registered Chow Chow puppy from Pet City. On each and every page of our sales contract the dog was identified as AKC registered. We were told that within 12 to 16 weeks our dog's registration papers would arrive at the pet store and we could come in and pick them up at that time. On January 16th, 2012 we went into Pet City to pick up our dog's registration papers and were shocked and surprised to find out that our dog was NOT registered with the American Kennel Club as promised and stated on our sales contract, but our dog was actually registered with United All Breed Registry. A quick Google search indicated that United is a puppy mill registry, and would apparently register a potato chip if your check cleared! We have since faxed paper work to the AKC trying to find out if our dog is even registrable with them, but because he is from a puppy mill, he is NOT eligible to be registered with the AKC. Obviously this effects the price of the dog. We paid $1,200 for our dog, and feel that a partial refund is in order since we were lied to. I requested a $400 refund but the owner laughed at me and said the best he could do is refund me $100 OR he would take the dog back for a full refund. Obviously we've had the dog for several months and are deeply attached to him and have no intention of returning him, but it makes you wonder why he'd offer to take the dog back for a full refund, but wont refund $400??? It makes no sense. We have reported the company to the Better Business Bureau and discovered that there have been 5 other complaints in the last few years against the company, and several law suits. I would NEVER buy anything from this store again because the management blatantly lied to us in a written contract and then refused to resolve the issue amicably. Unfortunately our next step will be to take the owners of Pet City to small claims court. read more

The cages are cleaned constantly. Don't judge what you don't know. Have you never had a puppy? They will roll in ANYTHING. Even their own poop. This isn't a lack of care from the store. It's a puppy. The puppies do not look "depressed." And guess what? Mice are pretty far down there on the food chain..... Finally, the LAST place I would buy a puppy is a "private breeder" aka "backyard breeder" nothing like taking the beloved family pet and breeding it to death when you have NO idea what you are doing. I've been looking for a small dog for some time now and have been unsuccessful in finding one that I connected with. I normally don't do a lot of business with pet stores because of the many issues with unscrupulous owners and a lack of concern for the animals' health. Well after looking around I was able to find on smaller dog that seemed awesome in Cheyenne, but then I saw that the rescue wanted a $300 adoption fee. That's retail rescue! I did some REAL research on this store and found that it's a family-owned and operated shop and that the family really does care so much for all of the animals they get. They also care about their customers as was evident by the fact that a couple years back, they sold a lady a little Yorkie and when her father got very ill and she could no longer keep it, they took it back and gave her half of what she paid for it back. This is where I come in. I showed up the day after he had been brought back and I scooped him right up. So my dog is a used retail/rescue that I got from this Pet City in Cheyenne. Please, before you post some mind-numbingly stupid comment about pet stores and puppy mills, do your research on these folks. I don't know them from Adam, so I'm not posting as a friend, but I know good people when I meet them and these are them. Stop in and give them a chance. We debated between a chocolate lab from Pet City and one from a local breeder. The breeder was a jerk and said terrible things about Pet City. After I chose to get the lab from Pet City, and anonymous customer came up to me and whispered, "Don't buy here, the dog will have bad hips and indigestion." I had also read the one star review on this site. All this mounted up against my decision; but I am really glad that I didn't take their word for it. I took it up with the manager. I told her about what everyone had been telling me about her store. She acknowledged the concern about the Pet City chain, that there were a lot of problems with pet stores cutting corners and buying from non-certified breeders. Pet City in the Cheyenne mall is NOT one of those stores. We spoke at length about genetics, pedigree and animal rights and I believe that this pet store is one of the few trying to make a difference. There is a problem with puppy mills in the U.S. But it is not just the Pet Stores. My wife got two pedigree certified Beagles back in the day that had UNJUSTIFIABLE health problems, and she got them from a professional breeder, the one that everyone says actually care about animal rights. Pet City in Cheyenne DOES NOT get their puppies from puppy mills. They contract with local professional breeders and personally go to the place were the puppies are bred to insure quality and fair treatment of animals. My Chocolate Lab, whom I lovingly refer to as "Cocoa," is certified bred, has a good pedigree, and is incredibly healthy. Pet City guarantees the health of their pet up to one year, and take the bill for a free professional veterinary examination. I am an advocate of animal rights. What I do not like is mass hysteria, and there has been a lot of that going on in the media. The problem with what everyone told me that was bad about Pet City was that they were INCORRECT, and had not investigated the libelous claims personally. I'm not telling you to blindly adopt a pet from Pet City because I recommend it, you need to investigate and learn the truth for yourself. What I CAN tell you is that this store deserves a better reputation than what Salem-Massachusetts-Witch-Hunt enthusiasts are giving them, which I would remind is ILLEGAL. Would you like it if your business tanked based on wrong information? We love our Chocolate Lab from Pet City of Cheyenne. I would recommend this store to anyone looking for an important addition to their family. If you have any concerns, talk to the employees, and they will address any concern you might have. Don't just listen to an independent breeder, which I might add, is competing fiercely for business from the same consumer. Do not buy from here. Not only are the prices absolutely outrageous for a dog but these dogs come from puppy mills. Literally found our puppys breeder on a website that talks about the violations he has committed and how the dogs he has live. Every single dog needs to be saved from this place and taken into someone who will actually adopt them out. Now granted my husband and I purchased our puppy unknowing that they did this because they told us they bought from good breeders but wow were they wrong. My puppy has had literally nothing but issues since we got her October 13th, 2019. A UTI that we've been dealing with since we got her and they REFUSED to do a culture on her after 3 rounds of antibiotics. So of course didn't want this to continue so my husband and I had to pay for it. On top of things I left a review on google also and they called my husband trying to get me to take it down. They didn't give one shit about how our dog was doing because my husband asked if they were trying to get me to take it down or if they actually cared about the puppy. My fiancé and I stopped by today and this is the second time I've left feeling completely disgusted. We went earlier this year and noticed that some of the bearded dragons were missing toes, normally a sign that they got too cold. We dismissed it as a possibility that they got too cold during shipping, as this is the first time either of us had noticed anything wrong. Today when we went in, several of the dragons were missing whole feet, and most were missing the ends of their tails. Additionally, one of the glass stands that holds tarantulas had a dead tarantula (not in a container) inside of it. The spider was upside down and it's leg was part of the way across the shelf. This used to be a reliable pet store but from what I've seen lately they are not taking good care of the animals they have (or not ordering from humane sources). read more

Would NEVER purchase an animal from here. There's 2 french Bulldogs that are older and obviously sick, one defecating all over itself in the cage and can barely move. The other 3 French Bulldog puppies they want almost SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS EACH for. I didn't pay over $5,000 for either of my frenchies, one of them being incredibly rare and long haired. The employees won't tell you what breeder they get them from either, which is a HUGE RED FLAG. Knowing that the puppies are ethically bred, and that their parents aren't living their lives in a nasty cage somewhere pushing out litter after litter for greedy people to sell is a very big deal. Also, when dealing with French Bulldogs they are known to have SEVERAL genetic conditions that can be passed down from parents, so again, not seeing the parents and knowing that they're health tested so they don't pass those diseases down, is CRITICAL FOR FRENCH BULLDOGS. Absolutely do not purchase from this place, or any place where you cannot physically see the parents. I literally cried walking around this place because it's just so sad that money and greed take precedence over these sweet puppies having healthy, happy lives. If you must purchase a puppy, please do so from an ethical breeder and never from a pet store. read more

Bought a "Teddy Bear" hamster at Pet City today. First off, there is no such thing as a Teddy Bear hamster. It's just a fancy name that pet stores use to make hamsters more appealing to buyers. It is called a SYRIAN hamster. Secondly, the owner/manager was rude, arrogant, and uninterested in helping us much. But of course, we were only making a $20 purchase compared to $1200. He said he has "raised hamsters all of his life". If this is true, he would know basic caretaking information which leads to my 3rd complaint/comment. Syrians are NOT social rodents like rats, mice, ferrets, or even dwarf hamsters. They are solitary animals that only cine together to breed, fight, or the female raising pups. The store had 2 male Syrians in a small 20 gallon tank, with 1 wheel...comment about the wheel later...1 house, 1 food dish, and nothing else. It is quite common to see YOUNG Syrians together in a display tank. These 2 hamsters are 4-6 months old and clearly fighting for dominance. Both hamsters have "battle scars"...what the owner called the numerous scars and wounds. Even though the 2 hamsters are more than likely siblings, they sounds have been separated when any fighting started. Now, for the supplies...the wheel is the only source of exercise for the hamsters. The wheels are wire which is unsuitable and dangerous for hamsters. He sells more suitable wheels in the store but I guess the well being of the hamsters he's trying to sell is of no concern to him. Our new, unnamed hamster has a vet check on Monday to assess the health of our new arrival. I normally do not buy from this pet store. We had a vacant 40 gallon tank so we decided to rescue at least 1. I would have gotten all 3, they had a female who was finally seperated from the males when she supposedly got pregnant. One employee told me that the female got pregnant yet the owner had no clue what I was taking about because he "was gone". Oh pllllleeeeease! read more

Pet stores have gotten a bad name but any place that has employees will cry a little as they let one of their animals go to a new home is good by me. Not sure what the other reviewers are complaining about - other than to post their personal opinions without any facts. Don't submit a review if you haven't made an actual purchase at Pet City. I've visited different breeders when we were trying to find a dog for our our family and found them none of them took care of their animals as well as Pet City. This is one of the best run pet stores and they go out of the way to ensure their customers are satisfied. During a trip to my parent's house in Cheyenne last year, we visited Pet City at the mall and fell in in love with a pure-bred Maltese male in the window. We resisted buying the puppy because we lived far away in California and we thought the logistics of getting him would be difficult. When we returned back to our home in California, we realized we should have bought the dog before we left. We missed him! Now, how to handle to the travel logistics. Would I need to fly back to Cheyenne to get the dog and fly back again? Not a problem! The Pet City owner, Leonard, went out of his way to help us get the Maltese to California. He took the puppy to the Vet to get the necessary travel shots and personally drove him to the Denver airport and put him on a Alaska Airlines plane who have special plane compartments for pets. The puppy arrived safely and in great health. Now, a year later, our Maltese (Frosty) has been the best addition to our family. He has a great, playful, loving personality. Our friends are surprised we were able to buy such a quality dog a pet shop. Not all pet shops and breeders are equal. Pet City is a winner! read more

I read these reviews for Pet City, and almost didn't go there for what I needed. I decided I had to see for myself. When I visited Pet city, I immediately walked around the store, stopped and checked the puppies. I went to the feeder mice and rats and checked on them. The bad reviews are three and four years old. Well, this is 2013, and Pet City IS NOTHING LIKE THESE REVIEWS STATE! The puppies were energetic and playful. Their cages were clean. THEY WERE NOT ROLLING AROUND IN THEIR FECES! And although puppy mills break my heart, PET CITY DOES NOT GET THEIR PUPS FROM PUPPY MILLS! Before writing an accusation about a shop, please do the research! Not all pet shops get their pups from mills! Pet City is one of the good guys! Just visit the store and see how the owner adores his two female dogs! I have had nothing but good experiences with Pet City. I bought two Siberian huskies from them almost 3 years ago and I have had no issues. My dogs are very healthy and they are amazing dogs. I plan to buy more animals from them in the future and wanted to make sure that I noted my experience because it seems like people are out to give them a bad name. I love the fact that they work with a lot of Military and have great financing if you qualify. Some things are a little pricy but I know that comes with some of the territory. I like the staff and they always seem very knowlegable about the products they sell as well as the animals. As it hasn't been done yet, I'm going to provide a FAIR review of Pet City, in Cheyenne. In both previous reviews it was stated that the animals looked depressed and lethargic. This is inaccurate. How much energy would anyone have who sat in a glass enclosure with a bunch of people gawking at them? I've taken out numerous of the pups to view them and play with them, and they have as much energy as any normal puppy would. Take a fish out of water, and it looks pretty depressed and lethargic too after a while. Put it back in the water and watch it go. Feeder mice, unfortunately, are almost always kept in conditions like that due to their purpose. Is it right? No, but it's the norm. Puppy mill chain is a false accusation as well. All of their breeders are inspected regularly and are registered breeders. The pups come with a health warranty for a year and papers. As a matter of fact, one of my close friends bought a mastiff that had championship bloodlines. As far as cleaning up after the pups, most of the time this pet store is packed with customers. The staff is very attentive to their customers and if they don't have an answer to your question on hand, they'll find the answer. The shop is undermanned in my opinion. Sometimes theres only two folks staffing the shop with 15+ customers rolling around in there, and they have well over 20 pups to look after. It's not exactly possible to pick up every poo and pee the puppies make on the spot. Anyone that owns a pup knows that accidents happen about every minute it seems. Multiple that by 20. Now I'll go into some fair negative points. The shop isn't exactly eye candy and it feels kind of cramped. Theres a lot of stuff in a small spot. The prices can run kind of high, but i've found there no more expensive then petco. They severely lack Owner books for the puppies they carry (the how-to handle this dog type deal.), not that I would purchase one of those anyway. The dogs lack regular grooming it seems. I've seen some of the pups in there with toe nails that were about a good two weeks too long, some with matted hair. As I stated above, I'm sure this is a staffing issue. Most pet stores have a very wide variety of fish, salt and fresh. they lack in this area as well. I'm not saying this pet store is the cats meow (No pun intended.. or was there?), but it's not the epicenter of suck as the other two reviews have made it out to be. People see Pet City and automatically assume it's just one of puppy mill pet stores. That's not the case. Their independently ran, they just carry the franchise name. It does a person good to take a moment and investigate, even if their intent is just to muck rake. read more

I loved this place! Very clean and efficient. Got to know the owners personally and they really seemed to know their stuff. They use what they sell so they know it works before you buy it. They also brought their own dogs to the store and you could just tell they love animals. They even referred to the puppies for sale there as their 'kids'. Turns out the breeder of the dogs is also a vet! Very cool! Have purchased two from them now and have been thrilled with them! Hope they stick around. My wife and I bought a puppy at Pet City over Memorial Day weekend. We had visited the store on multiple occasions and had looked at numerous puppies. Leonard and the rest of the staff there were courteous and displayed a wide base of knowledge regarding the different dogs we looked at. We are both retired and the staff were sensitive to our needs in the type of puppy that would be most suitable for our home. They were very helpful in providing information that helped us better integrate our new family member into our home and acclimate him to traveling with us in our car. They offered complete set up kits, discounted at the time we purchased the pup, but we chose to buy similar items from another local pet supply) store (Petco). The prices were similar at both stores. The store provided for a free visit with a long established veterinary clinic here in Cheyenne and the puppy passed his well pup visit with flying colors. We are very pleased with the experience of buying our little guy at Pet City and would recommend the store to anyone looking to invite into their home a little pup like we did. read more

Well, the store must have improved since those 2009 and 2010 reviews. We have been in and out of this store for the past two years while we were researching what type of dog would be a perfect fit for our family. Just as skeptic about these type of stores from hearsay, we decided to observe and build our own opinion about this store and whether we wanted to purchase from them. Because we had a baby, we wanted a puppy so that we are the ones training the dog and do not have to guess what the dog has been through. Since this store is a middleman between the breeders and the consumer, it was a fitting choice since we don't know any breeders and we morally did not see anything wrong with this store the past two years. 1. the store was clean, there was actually no feces in any of the dog kennels. Out of all the times we have been there (and it must have been about 30 times, there were only two times that I actually saw dog feces in the kennel from which one of them happened while i was standing there) 2. our puppy was almost 11 weeks when we got her and she had only been there for three days 3. she was not lethargic in any way, she was just sleepy....according to our research some puppies, just like babies, actually like to sleep. Other puppies were joyfully playing around with other puppies. 4. The owner answered all of the questions, and we asked a lot specifically about the process and what they do with the puppies etc. 5. DO NOT GET YOUR PETS FROM HERE! Please do your research and get pets from shelters or breeders! We got two rats here and one was sneezing, having trouble breathing, and being largethic the first night. We monitor her behavior, did some research, and took her back to the pet store the next day. They just toss her back into the cages with other rats when we said she was SICK and showed symptoms of respiratory infection. Our other rat we brought at the same time also started showing signs after the second day. She got it from the other sick rat and all those OTHER RATS in those cages will be INFECTED as well! We took the rat to the pet store and wanted to get medicine since the store worker told us to come back if the second rat showed signs! We came back the next day and she said it was uncommon to have two rats with the same problem! It is probably because they are getting used to the environment, so monitor the rat for a few more days and come back if it continues. It was our first time as rat owners, so we listened! The owners are friendly and helpful. A lot of people have judged the place based on being in the store for 5 minutes and not taking time to ask questions. Having been in there multiple times and talking to employees it is clear that they make sure the animals are well taken care of. Due to extreme cases of allergies we made the decision to purchase rather than adopt a dog and we have had him for over a year with no issues whatsoever. I was skeptical to come in after reading the other Yelp reviews but after just one visit my view has made a 180. These puppies are taken well care of, have frequent play time, and are all up to date on their vaccines. My husband and I are new to Cheyenne but we've wanted a dog for a while now. We went in just to look but ended up falling in love with a 12 week old German Shepard. We were unsure if we would be able to house him so, following the store owner's advice, we walked away to think about it and make sure we were making the right choice. We returned the next day and signed the papers to adopt our newest addition. The staff is so friendly and knowledgable. They answered every question we had and made sure we were well prepared to bring in this puppy. The only reservation I have is they were unclear of where exactly the puppy came from.
