If I could give zero stars I would, but here we are. I rented from this company in the Chouteau Lofts Apts for 4 years. In the beginning it was actually great. Management was responsive and timely with things like maintenance requests. They raised my rent every year $25/month and claimed this was for maintenance. They also entered my apartment multiple times per year to do "preventative maintenance". Over the years it became impossible to even get regular needed maintenance. I had multiple instances of my air conditioning going out and people not wanting to come repair it or leave a window unit not attached to the windows. Fast forward to me moving out. I moved because of my job, but likely wouldn't have stayed in this apartment as it was getting more expensive and there was no maintenance done to upkeep it. I moved out on 6/9, I was told I'd receive a prorated refund for the rest of June's rent. Instead it took multiple phone calls and emails over several weeks for me to receive a check for $175 that was nowhere close to the $600+ it should have been. Effectively I was lied to, stolen from, or both. I also only received $30 of my security deposit refund. Large deductions were for things like the blinds, which I was told on several of those "preventative maintenance" visits that they were measuring and going to install new ones. The icing on the cake is them charging me $120 of my security deposit to paint the ceilings. The only thing wrong with the ceiling was due to their own shoddy work. A couple years into my lease an upstairs neighbor drilled into the wall hitting a pipe causing water damage in my apartment below. Instead of repainting the whole ceiling they repainted only patches of what was damaged. Clearly they can't rent the apartment with an unfinished paint job of the ceiling and I get to pick up the tab. Tl;dr: This company will lie to you, charge you extra money for no reason and provide a subpar living experience. All while lacking basic communication skills. read more

Don't rent from them if you prefer for your home life to be stress free. I lived in my apartment through them for two years. Would never rent from Front Door again. 1. The building was often a mess. The place would go literally weeks without the common areas being cleaned. Granted, there was something about the tenants that certainly contributed. Cigarette butts in the stairwells, all over my patio from the unit above me, vomit in the stairwells. Hallways frequently smelled of marijuana. I understand that some tenants had no sense of responsibility in cleaning their mess, but the fact that these things went uncleaned for weeks is a reflection of the management and their priorities on getting the place cleaned regularly. A brand new building too, making it a shame that it's being treated so poorly. 2. The management is dishonest. When I moved into the apartment, the building was brand new. One of the selling points was that they told us they would be building a paved and gated parking lot that was included in our rent. It took them over a year to even start building the lot. And when they finally got around to it, they informed us they would be charging us monthly to park in it. I was told that unless I could provide written evidence that they said the parking would be included in rent (of course, I couldn't) that I would have to pay the fee. 3. The management is just disorganized. Two examples here. I lived there for two years. I went away over the weekend that included the dates my first year lease ending and second year lease starting. I returned to town to find that my key fob wasn't working so I couldn't get into my building. I had to wait 30 minutes for a maintenance worker to come let me in. I then couldn't leave my apartment for the rest of the night because I would've been locked out of my apartment again. I called first thing the next morning to sort everything out. I was told that I should have received an email instructing me that I needed to get my fob reactivated before the end date of my first year lease in order to still have building access. Now, I am admittedly not the best at checking my email. But I would not miss an email that included information about me potentially losing access to my apartment. They said "it looks like you were sent the email....this morning". Two days after I lost building access. Do you think they even offered to prorate my rent for those two days I didn't have access to the building? Not a chance. After moving out, I realized I hadn't gotten my security deposit mailed to me two months after I had left. I emailed to inquire about it this. No response. In fact, often did not get responses to my emails. So eventually I called. And the woman who answered the phone told me that no one had ever finished my check out process. From an apartment I moved out of two months prior. And presumably someone new had since moved in. 4. Safety was not a priority. There was a two week period where the door to the garage of the building was broken so it just stood ajar. Inside of the garage was a door to the building lobby. Which didn't lock. You didn't actually need a fob to get in. So for two weeks, literally anyone could have walked into the building. It's amazing there wasn't any apparent theft or damage during that time. There are definitely a few nice and helpful staff members in the office. Although they had a lot of turnover in those two years so suspect the employees may not have been that happy working there either. I liked my individual apartment. The units were nice. But it's not worth paying a lot to live in a new building when you have to deal with all the issues above. read more

This is my Public Service Announcement - please do not live here! I rented from Front Door for two years while in college and lived in two different buildings near SLU's campus. The management is unhelpful in resolving any issue whatsoever that you may have. And believe me, you will have issues. The leasing staff is downright rude and unhelpful. The apartments are old and cheaply constructed. The ventilation is also horrible - one year my neighbors smoked, and my bedroom, one closet, and the floor's hallway literally reeked of cig smoke. The building's maintenance manager only sent me snarky, zero-action emails when I reached out for a possible resolution. They will do anything they can to nickel and dime you once you have signed the lease. They only do 12-month leases, and there is no way around it. Parking is extra and also extremely expensive (+$100/month). Since the building is mostly SLU college students, be prepared for the elevators/hallways/lobby to smell like stale beer and vomit regularly. Expect for the fire alarm to go off at 3am on the weekends once every few months. Don't be surprised if you go to do laundry (and FYI, there's ONE laundry room in the whole building w about 4 machines that you have to pay for) and someone's puked in the machine. Ultra loud neighbors are a given, especially on the weekends - the walls are paper thin. When I was getting ready to leave and trying to set a move out date and walk through inspection, the leasing office sent me sarcastic emails refusing to set a date because they were "never letting me go." I can say overall my apartment is what I need. I appreciate the all inclusive bills and my own washer and dryer. When it comes to my experience with the office staff majority of them are friendly and helpful. My only gripe is that on at least two occasions I had mail at the office for at least two days a piece and was never notified that it was there (although the claim is that tenants are suppose to receive a call if they have packages waiting). When it comes to maintenance I have yet to have a positive experience. Due to this I've requested that I be called prior to their arrival and that we arrange for them to come when I am home. The calling ahead of time has been spotty, I can say the last time they came I was called; but the two times prior I was not. I have come home to my kitchen being covered in paint dust, my trash can being dirtied by paint, shoes on my counter, a flooded muddied bathroom, soaked rugs placed on dry rugs, my items moved from an area unrelated to the problem area etc. I have lived in many places and know it is best to stay professional and polite or things will progress to hell. I am actually a pretty pleasant person, but I have finally lost my patience. If I have any more issues with maintenance for the remainder of my lease (nearly a yr left) I will definitely not resign my lease for the following year. When I moved in management was great. Management recently changed.. Unfortunately...& When it came to moving out I had to call 10+ times to receive my deposit. I still have NOT received it AND when I called to check on it they tell me over the phone they are NOT sending the full amount due to a Covid cleaning fee, in which I stated was not valid. Additionally, they managed to violate the law by not returning my check within 30 days and not give written notice that they would not be returning the full balance. Also, when it came to randomly changing our locks in the middle of the year, I received no notice of the day or the time that they would be coming. I came home to changed locks and had to wait for over 30 minutes outside to get in. Insane. GOOD luck BUT the service maintenance guy was great and a good worker, he always fixed anything quick and good. read more

Let me start off staying that I rarely leave reviews. I tend to believe that my experience is mine and may not be that of others. I also try to give companies an opportunity to make it right because often times they aren't given the opportunity to. But Frontdoor has shown time and time again that they don't want to make it right. I have lived here long enough to see them run off quality tenants. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT rent from this company! Run as fast as you can and don't look back! I have lived here for almost 5 years and I can honestly say that this place has gone to hell. It used to be a great place to live with great people at the leasing office. But ever since Danielle left, the quality has gone with it. As soon as my lease ends, I will be out of here! Let me tell you why: 1. The gate never works! We are paying for safety and a locked gate. The longest the gate has worked consecutively has been two weeks. 2. The person who lives above me has caused so many issues for myself and my neighbors, but because she works for the company, they have done nothing about it. All day and all night, her son and his partner get to play Beyonce, stomp their feet as hard as they can, throw weights on floor, wake up at 4AM to move furniture, steal packages, flood my apartment with water because they let the bathtub overflow, throw paper planes out the window, get into domestic disturbances with their partners where the police need to be called. If you want a good night's sleep, you won't get it here because the company allows all of this chaos. You can literally see the ceiling fan and walls shake. The few times they have confronted my neighbor, she gives them this sob story and promises to move her son and his partner to another part of the apartment so that I can get some sleep. That lasts about a week and then she moves them back right above me where they continue the same cycle of noise I mentioned above. They say call the night staff, but that is useless because that requires people to actually answer the door-which they don't. 3. Unresponsive property management-A few months ago, I fell on ice in the parking lot because they did not properly salt it. The lease clearly says that they are responsible for the ice and snow removal. I ended up going to the emergency room for a small concussion. At first, they lied saying that they treated the problem. It was after I showed them pictures showing them that the company they paid to clear the ice and snow didn't do it. They said they would cover my medical expenses-still aint seen a dime! The only redeeming quality about this place is the fantastic maintenance staff. Bishop, Fred, Mr. Ricky and countless other maintenance people have been responsive, professional in addressing my needs. Perhaps their property manger and owner could take a few notes about customer service. As a note, some of the recent positive reviews that are on here are done by people who work for the Frontdoor company in some capacity and live in their properties at a discounted rate-thus the positive reviews. If this forum allowed me to upload video, I would let you hear for yourself how bad the noise is. I can back up everything that I have said in this review. This is a terrible, terrible company. If at all possible, AVOID like the plague! I was really excited to find this company online. I was looking for a place in the city (Tower Grove, So Grand) or University City / Wash U area and delighted at how most of their properties looked. We chose the top floor of a duplex they had just purchased, so repairs needed to be done before we could move in. I was assured by Lindsey that it would be done in time for us to move in on a certain date. She also gave me a printed list of the repairs that were to be completed. Lo and behold, it's not finished, but money-wise I had to move in. On move in day, they only had one key (for a two bedroom apartment... so my roomie and I are supposed to share 1 key?!) And then they gave us a run around and it was nearly a week before we got another key, which I had to go pick up.) Most of the repairs weren't done and we made Lindsey sign a checklist that they would be completed in one month (yep you guessed it, most of them never got done.) We didn't have countertops in the kitchen for 3 weeks. The apartment was filthy, there was paint splattered all over the floor, sawdust everywhere, etc. All the renovations look like they were done by 12 year olds, not a professional maintenance team. They refused to give us a basement key for the reason of "security" even though we have back door access that leads directly to the basement, so really it's just an inconvenience. We were told we could have our own laundry machines because there are two separate hookups for each apartment (it's a duplex.) Then the downstairs neighbors move in and Front Door gets all upset because we won't let the neighbors use our machines and our utilities for free... all the while refusing to just put coin op machines on the other set of hook ups. Same thing happened AGAIN a year later when new tenants moved in downstairs and the PROPERTY MANAGER, Jen, didn't even know there were two sets of hookups... The basement floods every time there is a storm and I always have to call the emergency maintenance crew, sometimes they don't arrive for hours. We've had water leaking into our kitchen through the walls and ceiling because they didn't put any gutters on the roof. Us and the downstairs tenants had hundreds of dollars of food and possessions ruined because of this... and they just come and put a bucket under the leak and paint over the mold on the wall... and we have to keep calling them. Sometimes they respond immediately to maintenance requests and sometimes they don't come at all. Whenever I check "Call first" they never do, and sometimes they come into the apartment on their own without even calling first (and they always show up at 8 am when we're sleeping.) When they do come in, they often don't clean up the mess they made and walk around in their muddy work boots getting dirt and chunks of mud all over. Once I came home after the maintenance staff had been in the apartment and they left our front door wide open!! To top all this off, someone from the office emailed me while I was out of the country to tell me that they never got my rent check... so I had my boyfriend send a check to them. When I get back I checked my bank account and they did get a check from me, and they cashed it... so I paid them double rent and then I had to deal with that, make multiple calls to the bank and to Front Door. Their excuse was somebody credited it to the wrong ledger... thanks a lot! By some miracle our building was sold to another company and we got our entire security deposit back from that company when we moved out (Savoy Properties - very pleasant.) If you live in a Front Door property, I highly recommend you do not pay your last month's rent. Tell them to use your deposit as your last month's rent, and to send you a bill for the repairs or cleaning (and take meticulous photos and demand receipts.) Otherwise plan to be ripped off. Sidenote to the people complaining about the neighborhoods: You. Pick. The. Neighborhood. If you don't like it, don't live there! This place does not deserve your money or your time. Students beware!!!! I fought all of their ridiculous policies and charges and did pretty well. I think they are really used to taking advantage of students and first time renters. I'm pretty much a forgive and move-on type of girl, but several years later thinking about this place still elevates my heart rate and makes my skin crawl. Rent goes up yearly. No one at the leasing office communicates with one another so they're always unaware of any information I share with them. I moved out in May of 2021. Was told my check was in the mail and that I was receiving the full amount back. It is August and I never received it. I was also charged rent AFTER I moved out, my full rent total was taken out of my bank account on the first of the month, again, after I moved out. This put my account in the negative as the rent for my new apartment also came out of my bank account of the first. I have never received that money back. I was told it would be on the check with my deposit. Unfortunately for me, I will have to take this to court. I would not recommend this leasing agency to anyone. read more

First, look out for the dates when the only few good reviews were posted. Front Door sent out an email to all tenants offering $50 if they went online and gave them a positive review 5/24 and 7/1 of 2013 because their customer service is so horrible!!. Notice the dates of these positive reviews - these people were paid. Second, I don't even know how to conclude my leasing experience with Frontdoor. Loop lofts have some really nice apartment, but they would not seem so nice if you have to deal with some of the worst people ever in the leasing office. Now that I moved out and got ridiculous charges out of my security deposit, I was able to talk to a few other tenants and tell you that these are the charges they automatically put on EVERYONE(confirmed by their accountants that no one EVER gets their full deposit back)--if you live here, start bugging them about potentially charging you for these RIGHT NOW! 1. Painting $150. Their standard move-out charges says it's only charged when the room was repainted or severely damaged. LIE! I'm sure they charged it on the previous tenant of my apartment. They did not end up painting our walls when we moved in (they did offered two weeks after we moved in but I had no confidence that they would not leave my furniture all stained). Now that I moved out, they charged me again for what they've already charged. NOT ACCEPTABLE. 2. Cleaning $85. They will charge that fee even if you leave your room spotless and the move-out inspection clearly says no cleaning needed. We actually had a dirty room when we moved in that we had to clean ourselves for the most part. We asked their cleaning crew to come in just because they were supposed to. However, this $85 worth of service involved a bunch of people who we had to teach how to clean and left trash afterwards. Should they really be charging us for that $85 or should we be charging them for cleaning our apartment and teach their expensive cleaning crew how to clean?? 3. Drip pan replacement $35. This is supposed to be normal wear and tear, but no. Even if you replace it on your own and it looks clean and spotless and shiny, they still put the charge on you. 4. Light bulb $5. Whether you have all working light bulbs or not. This is going to be on your bill. Third, I may have had the most extreme experience here, but they decided to punch a hole on my living room wall facing the street of U-city and put a window on. The original plan is to drill a hole, and put the window on the next day. After my numerous calls and emails and threats, they decided that they would "do me a favor", only cut the outter wall the first day, and would cut the inside wall and do the window on day2. This is a 2 day job, but they left their tools and shelf and mess in my living room for 2 whole weeks. The property manager did not even tell me when it was gonna happen when I was first told within the week that it happened. Last but not least, just so you know, one of the worst people in the office that we had to deal with was just promoted to become a property manager. See, that's how they work. I'm really shocked by the negative reviews that others have written about Front Door on here. I've had a very different experience with the company. I moved into my rented house in the Grove in June 2011 and have loved it ever since. The leasing process was very simple and they were flexible with the move-in date as I was coming cross-country. I have changed roommates a few times while living in the house, and the changes were made without any problems at all. I have had a few issues with water leaking in the unfinished basement (to be expected in any house that is 50+ years old). Every time it has happened, maintenance promptly takes care of the issue. (Note: this leaking hasn't happen in nearly a year as of 2/13/14) I also had an issue with the fuse box and the power to one of the bedrooms upstairs. Given that this was an electrical issue, someone was sent over right away to look at it. The regular maintenance crew quickly realized that the issue was over their heads and called in an electrician. I think it says a lot when a company is willing to call in the right guy for the job and fix the issue properly. I see from the other reviews that some people have had problems with maintenance, but I have had a completely different experience. The men are always polite, work quickly and clean up after any work is complete. They could do a little bit of a better job on calling before they come over. To begin, I am embarrassed for the office staff. Their behavior and response to complaints is completely unprofessional. I work at a building across from the Moolah parking garage and chose to begin parking there a few years ago. Since the management change, the office attitude has changed significantly in a negative manner. Unfortunately, they do not seem to understand how to appropriately speak to other people. In August, one morning, I pulled in to park and my card did not work. I went into the office to see why. They said I needed to sign my annual paperwork. I advised them the fee was already drafted from my bank account, and I suggested they email people when their parking needs to be renewed instead of simply deactivating their cards. The manager, Chris, turned around, wrote on my parking access card with black Sharpie "Aug 1" and said, "Here. Maybe this will help you remember." Then today, when pulling into the garage, a man jumps out of the booth and starts chasing, waving his arms and shouting at me. I park, hang my parking tag, and go into the office to see what is going on. The manager said there is an event today and they cannot have anyone except members parking. I suggested they put a "Lot Full" or "No Vacancy" sign out. The manager said he probably would have done the same thing and they still need a guy out there to chase people, and if I had my tag hanging like I'm supposed to, he wouldn't have chased me. I noted the parking tag is very large and says to remove while vehicle is in motion. I commented that their behavior is unprofessional and completely trashy, and left - to write this review! In conjunction with the parking gates malfunctioning often, then getting attitude when asking for the person to raise the gate via the call button, and the poor attitudes of the office staff, I am choosing to pay double at another garage just to avoid such rubes. read more

AVOID! I lived in an apartment through FrontDoor STL for two years and I would recommend anyone to avoid this company. While their apartments look nice at first glance, they are cheap, low-quality apartments and fixtures. The leasing company and its employees consistently avoid phone calls, are rude, and non-responsive. When moving out, they do not return security deposits even when the apartment is left clean and in a better state than when I moved in (and thus tenets often must go to small claims court in order to recoup their security deposits). Save yourself various hours of phone calls regarding the same issue that magically don't get recorded to communicated to others in the leasing company. read more

I'm not sure what's going on up at the leasing office but they are VERY disorganized. I tried to schedule a walk thru to move out. Left voicemails and never got a call back. The day my lease ended I brought my keys to the office. Girl said my paperwork was good. I'm still getting emails saying I owe them rent? And then I get a phone call asking me if I still live there??? What? Obviously no one is doing their jobs and has any idea who moved out. I'll be surprised if I get my deposit in the 60 business days they said it would take. The staff has completely changed over the 2 years I lived there. Frontdoor is a great leasing company! Maintenance responds FAST and the office staff is very responsive through email and by phone unlike other leasing companies around STL where you never can seem to get hold of them (this is a major plus). They have beautiful updated apartments all over the city and prices are more than reasonable for the eclectic neighborhoods you can choose from. I was skeptical of renting from Front Door when I saw multiple poor reviews... However, with the location and amenities my Fiance and I were willing to give it a shot. At the very beginning of our lease we had a couple of issues but after I wrote an email to Chris, the manager, we have had nothing but good experiences. In fact, we have already renewed our lease for the next year also. We would probably stay all 4 years of medical school if it weren't for wanting a backyard for our dog. Maintenance is fast and have always came out within a day or two of a request and are always nice to us when they come to change a light bulb or whatever else we may need. The leasing office staff are awesome as well. I actually enjoy going to pick up my packages because they are always so nice to me when I come in! I think the poor reviews come from people who don't know how to deal with people. If you have an issue, communicate it in a respectful manner and follow up- you won't have any issues! Be nice and you will get it in return, common sense. All in all, we love our apartment. read more

UPDATE: Downgraded from 2 stars to 1. The good: their buildings are generally nice. I like our apartment, its location and our neighbors. The price is pretty good for the space we have. There's always someone to answer the phone and they're typically responsive to your immediate need... which leads me to the bad. The bad: Terrible follow through. It's nice to have a secure place to send packages. It would be nicer if the office was actually staffed all day on the weekend. It's great that a maintenance guy showed up when I had a leak in the roof, but it's meaningless if, four days later when it rains again, the roof is still leaking. The ugly: We have a small leak in our ceiling. A maintenance man has been in and out without really doing much and three weeks later, it still leaks when it rains. Absolutely ridiculous. This is bare minimum for a leasing company. Also, it took several months for them to completely fix the parking gate. Big cars had trouble pulling into the gated parking and thus chose to just park in the unsecured lot. Get your sh*t together, Front Door. You're embarrassing yourselves! Is there such thing as a good leasing company? I'm not sure. That's not to say the people aren't nice and try to make it up to you for some missteps. It's just that certain missteps should never happen in the first place. You'll live here fine. You might like it. But you'll pull your hair out when the time comes and, based on other reviews, they'll unjustly take some of your security deposit. I don't know. I still live here. read more

I'm actually pretty shocked at the positive reviews. Not that it matters. However, when I did rent with them in 2012, they were pleasant and I always paid my rent on time, we had a great relationship. Now when I was forced to move back home to Colorado due to economic reasons, I had to sublease my apartment. Long story short, I ended up getting scammed. They said that since I got scammed, I was only on the hook for two months of the rent, even though I didn't live their. Somewhat acceptable solution. However, I hadn't paid them because of financial reasons and lacking a job. I explained that to them. They literally never tried to collect anything from me, they just went and sued me after two months. I guess thats cool too. Now, I'm trying to rent an apartment here in Colorado, I can't because I have a judgement for an eviction on my record. I understand that majority of this is my fault but enter the issue. Now that I want to pay them, they are making it as inconvenient as possible. They refuse to set up any sort of payment plan (hello, broke college student) that's the easiest way for me to pay them. Anyway, after talking down to me like a child, they also refuse to write a letter to the apartment complex that I'm now trying to rent from to explain the situation and tell them that I never got evicted, until they get all of their money. However, I need an apartment by next month or I'll basically be homeless and they still refuse to work with me. So I have a feeling that if I were to have any other issue, they'd refuse to work with me and also talk down to me like a child. LOVE being treated like that by a company. read more

My husband and I have been leasing from FrontDoor for several years. We are currently in our 3rd rental property with them. We have had a stellar experience with them from day one, and we would recommend them to anyone. That being said, I feel the need to comment on all of the negative reviews that came before me. Most of these negative reviews are for a property across from SLU's campus on Lindell. That property is leased by 95% students, and is really more like a college dormitory than an apartment complex. FrontDoor no longer owns this property. FrontDoor is a wonderful company that is working to rehabilitate neighborhoods that are rapidly becoming "it" places to live and be. Neighborhoods like The Grove, CWE, The Loop, and Washington Avenue were not always safe to live in. FrontDoor turns ugly buildings into beautiful, well-maintained, secure properties that my friends and family are in awe of when they come to visit. When you are rehabbing buildings that are 100+ years old, there are bound to be some problems (leaky basement, bad plumbing). FrontDoor has solved every maintenance issue we've ever had with efficiency and a great attitude. All you need to do is communicate with them and be understanding of the neighborhood or building you are in. It isn't their fault your basement is leaking, or god forbid, a frat party breaks out in your hallway. However, they WILL fix it. Blaming these amazing people for problems with a neighborhood or maintenance issues EXPECTED from an old home is just ridiculous. The reviews do not lie on this building. Please, please, please, believe the reviews. I was one of those that thought the reviews only highlighted the bad, but it's truly a nightmare living here. I couldn't find anything good to say about this management company aside from their location being very convenient. My experience: from the start, was terrible. See all of the photos for proof. Moving in: was told to come in whenever, then got there to get my keys and was told they had no indication from me that I would be moving in still, despite me telling them I'd be coming. Moved in: the apartment was pretty gross. They claimed it was cleaned, however, that was certainly not the case. I had to clean pretty deeply myself. It was rather disgusting actually. I also dealt with mold all throughout my washing machine. It was gnarly. I told them, they wiped the exterior mold off and called it good. Then, I told them it was all internal and I was concerned about that. Then they told me I need to be leaving the door open and that's why there's mold. Though, I had just moved in. Gave it a month, and nothing happened till I finally reached out again. Then, my fridge and freezer were not working. I lost a lot of money worth of food because of it. I told them it wasn't working. They claimed someone came to reset it, however all that was was someone coming in and lowering the temperature and leaving me a not that said I had it on too high of a setting. That did nothing, clearly. So then they replaced it, after I consistently told them this was unacceptable. Noise, cleanliness. The there are terribly loud tenants all throughout the building. There's trash everywhere. Including some Tupperware food that's been sitting at the bottom of the staircase for about a month now. Flooding. There was an issue with a unit above or next to mine, and water flooded into my apartment. They texted me and told me about it, and asked me to survey for water damage. I was coming home from out of town and the manager Damir happened to be in the building. We looked and didn't see anything. Then once I looked closer later, I noticed a box of mine had been moved into the closet. Behind it, it was soaked. And all the contents of the box were soaked. I reached out, and heard nothing. They acted like they didn't go in my apartment, yet completely moved my stuff. Key fobs. Twice now the keys have malfunctioned. And don't get locked out with a malfunctioning key at any inopportune time. It took emergency maintenance 50 minutes to come unlock my door. My key got be into the building, but my door lock was just not working. Packages: go to their main office. However, they've lost one of my packages now and I've lived here for 4 months. read more

Current resident and I hate it here. Do yourself a favor and live somewhere else. I reached out to management about a noise complaint. I was told to record the noise. I recorded the noise disturbance and I was informed that it sounded like a unbalance washing machine AND they could not tell people when to do laundry. Wait what!? So as a management company you can't tell people it's not courteous to do laundry at 12:30 AM. The noise was in my bedroom so I asked if the laundry of the person above me was located above my bedroom...no response to that question. I was also told that was an "overpersonal issue". I asked about breaking my lease because this was not the first, third, or fifth noise incident. I was told that I would have to pay the entirety of my lease...which is roughly $18,000. I've rented several places and I have NEVER heard anything like this. Not to mention this clause is not in the lease. As someone who has worked in multi-family communities, I know that is is possible for management to intervene however it seems that Front Door is only concerned with getting your money NOT that you enjoy your home. I can't even think of a good way to start this review because there simply is nothing good to say about them. I have rented from Front Door for about 2 years now. I used to live on their "Lindell Strip." Let me highlight some of the positives and (mostly negatives) and you be the judge of whether or not you want to give these people your money (or if you're a SLU student, probably more likely your parents' money.) Pros: - Close to SLU's campus, so very convenient, duh. - Gated and covered parking with a *fairly* safe garage with many cameras in it - Somewhat prompt (and super nice) maintenance staff and night staff who will fix problems most of the time - Swimming pool and workout room are convenient even though the equipment breaks down and they don't fix or replace or there is no pool furniture out there - Key card access means relatively safe apartments and minimal (if any) break-ins. - Utilities included so you can go crazy with long, hot showers and usage of electricity, if that's your thing Cons: - Year-long leases only! So if you wanted to stay one extra month while you're looking to buy a house or something, well, fuck you, you can't. - Rude leasing office staff. I always paid my rent on time but any time they make a tiny mistake it's somehow my fault and they try to charge me more money! - Leasing office staff lost my rent check. What the hell? - Limited package pick-up hours. You can't pick up a package during weekdays between the hours of 1pm-6pm. Even when their leasing office is basically dead, you can't get one. I'd been repeatedly denied packages with MEDICINE I needed in them, also packages containing shoes (which to a fashion-conscious woman is like denying her medicine...) - Even if you got a convenient parking spot in the garage, chances are someone will steal it when you're out of your spot. I noticed this happens a lot during the summer especially when every person and their brother is inviting some friend over. They are ASSIGNED spots for a reason! - Faulty mailbox keys. I received a key that was capable of opening every. single. mailbox. in the entire mail-room!! what if someone else had a key like that? They'd steal my mail! - Various robberies have occurred in front of my apartment and in front of the Coronado. - Internet connection BLOWS. It's pretty much almost as bad as 56k. I am not even joking. I did an internet speed test and took a screen shot and submitted it to the leasing office and they did nothing. - My car was vandalized right in front of the Coronado, right in front of my face and all they offered to do was rat out the stupid fratboys who did it to their parents. Oh well, at least I can sleep well knowing that they had their bank accounts cut for a few weekends! WINNING! - Key cards sometimes DO NOT work or the leasing office will decide to reset them randomly without even telling you! REALLY annoying especially when you're walking in the back door with arms full of groceries! - Loud fratboys and sorority bimbos party hard all night long on Fridays and Saturday nights so be prepared for lack of sleep if you live on or near one of the top floors where the balcony thing is located. - Swipe cards don't always work. Oh and if you get locked out prepare to shell out $25 for a new key card. - Oven in my stove was perpetually broken and they never once offered to fix it or bring me a new one. - Rent is ASTRONOMICALLY HIGH. Like, higher than the moon. I'm talking Earth to Mars, 400 million km aphelion!! I was paying $1050/month for a freakin' ONE BEDROOM APARTMENT plus $75/month for covered parking which they tried to increase on me after living there for a year even though my contract stated $75/month. Yes, utilities are included, but Jesus. It's a trade off, I guess. Still, when I was looking to buy a house, some of my mortgage options were CHEAPER than my rent here, even WITH utilities and insurance and stuff!!! wtf? - Leasing office staff *seems* all nice and friendly but as soon as they have your money, Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter Here. So yeah. The choice is yours, kids (and parents!) Oh yeah, and notice how there's only 1 review besides mine for front door that made it through the filter? I have a feeling these crooks are paying off Yelp corporate to hide the crappy reviews, even from people who are legit Yelpers who have other reviews besides the ones for F.D. Shady business practices, no doubt. I am sure they will attempt to post a counter review to this and deny everything. There was a significant mismatch between the photos sent to me, and the apartment I rented. As a Wash U student looking to snag an apartment in a hurry, I learned the hard way that just because the woman who fields your request calls you "sweetie" and promises to "give you a great home," doesn't mean that said lady has your best interest at heart. Since moving in, this company has been a disaster. Exorbitant utility fees (way beyond what I have paid at any other locations in St. Louis). Molding paint. Peeling bathroom floors. General nastiness of apartments. After spending a couple days in my apartment, I asked the company to show me alternative apartments to see if I could move. They reluctantly recommended 2 apartments: The first had the grossest bathroom I have ever set foot in (the woman showing me the apartment had to apologize for the display of nastiness, and promptly closed the door), the second was located in what their agent called "an up-and-coming neighborhood." By "up-and-coming," I think she meant "ghetto" and "potentially lethal": in the span of 5 minutes, my girlfriend and I spotted 3 separate police officers in bullet-proof vests, and several gang members (my girlfriend volunteers at the local juvenile hall, and easily recognized a popular gang's tattoos adorned all over the local population). I asked around to see if my experience was unique, but 4 of my friends who have interacted with FrontDoor have had similarly-awful experiences. So, if you'd like to get misled, pay exorbitant fees, and potentially get shot, PLEASE rent from Front Door. If you'd like a quality, reasonable apartment, look elsewhere. Awful. read more

WARNING: I have lived with Frontdoor for 2 years and just got an e-mail BRIBING people to write good reviews for them in exchange for $50 off of their rent, so for all of those good reviews out there they are most likely FAKE. Think about it, if this company is so good why do they have to bribe people to write them good reviews? Sounds questionable to me... The staff (particularly at the office) are rude and unhelpful. They seem to know little to nothing about managing. They are in over their heads with the amount of property they own and can't keep track of a single thing. I could write a novel about how terrible of a company Frontdoor is. One of many examples is the time our hot water got turned off for a WEEK because they forgot to pay our water bill. We received no compensation and didn't even get an apology and it was THEIR fault, not ours. If you are a SLU student, it is quite tempting to live with Frontdoor as they own a monopoly around SLU and the location is great, but try to avoid if possible. If you can't avoid, then brace yourself because they WILL take advantage of you knowing that you are a student. If you are not a SLU student, then AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I had an apartment at Coronado place, and had signed up for two years. After an unforeseen medical condition I was no longer able to stay in Saint Louis and had to be transferred to Chicago. Knowing this and given three month warning, Frontdoor refused to release from my lease stating that I knew the dangers when I signed up. They also informed me that even in death that my parents would still need to keep up my lease. They were heartless to say the least. The true cherry on the Sundae though was when my mother went in and had a heated conversation with them. They decided to call five police offers on her for "disturbing the peace". My mother is in her fifties with two prosthetic hips, and nothing close to a threat to anyone. Yet somehow they still found it necessary to lock her up for a night without informing her son who was suppose to have "constant supervision". Thank you Saint Louis police, and thank you even more obnoxious frontdoor property manager who told my mother that she was "heartless" for defending me. My final conclusion: They are literally your best friend as long as you pay your bills. As soon as you consider not paying a cent, they will rip your throat out no matter what evidence you bring to them. It's a matter of good faith, and they crashed and burn in that department miserably. read more

I actually had a pleasant experience living in a Front Door property for 3 years. I never really had any issues (other than rent being pretty high, but that was my choice to rent from them)....until I moved out. 1. They charged me a $75 "cleaning fee" when my deposit was returned. I am still waiting for them to explain this to me because I spent 2 days cleaning my apartment when I moved out. Even the girl who checked me out commented on how clean the apartment was. 2. They withdrew June rent ($975!) from my account...when my lease terminated May 31st. Not until the very end of the entire thing did someone apologize. NOT ONCE! They said it was a mistake and someone must not have pulled the paperwork because they had moved offices. Ok, sure, whatever - you still took $975 from me and I'm the one who had to say something about it! They finally cut me a check (about a week after the money was taken) and I then had to go deposit it at the bank. Waste of time. When I picked the check up, there was an email attached from the accountant stating this must be MY fault - I must not have checked the box saying I had electronic payment. So I went back and checked my "Notice to Vacate" paperwork. WRONG - I filled everything out correctly. 3. After being assured that the rent debacle wouldn't occur again, I checked my account and guess what...July rent was taken out of my account! When this happened in June, I inquired as to how we can keep this from happening next month and the response was "Ma'am, you are no longer a tenant here. Why would this happen next month?!" Ummm yeah, I wasn't a tenant in June either. I'm sure they will explain this away with a "Someone must not have pulled the paperwork - we just moved offices" excuse. 4. Good luck getting a hold of anyone higher up to speak to. No one gives out contact information. They only offer to "forward your message" to someone. Yeah, because that's good business practice. Overall, this was a good company to rent from (from my personal experience), but when I came down to paperwork and money, their true colors shone through. RENTERS BEWARE!!! read more

Honestly a terrible management company. Not interested in a tenants ease of living or experience at all. They want you to sign the contract and pay them their money. Prime example, they charged me $70 to clean my old apartment but tried to give me a dirty one to move into. They showed up late to a walkthrough. Michael in management is easily the most inconsiderate employee I have encountered. They disregard emails and do not call back when messages are left on their voicemail. While I generally liked my apartment and location, these landlords were terrible. To preface the following statements, I lived in my apartment for 4 years and was a great tenant. I wish my landlords had been better... I had several issues with the maintenance and staff manager listed below: Maintenance: My heat broke in the dead of winter. I called emergency maintenance, left a detailed message and stayed with a friend for a few days. When I came back, no one had been by to fix the heat, so I had to call again. They did not fix the heat right away, instead they brought space heaters (which helped but was not ideal). The maintenance team attempted to fix the heater 4 times within the next month. Each time, the heater would work for a few days and then break again and I would have to repeat the process of calling in. Finally they fixed it and it stayed fixed, but it would have been fixed much sooner if they had called in experts. My shower broke and they came out and replaced the knob but not the underlying problem so it proceeded to break for 2 more times before they replaced the entire mechanism. They also left quite a dirty mess in the shower that was not cleanable by ordinary cleaners. My key was sticking in my lock, so I called maintenance to let them know this problem. They did nothing to fix it and a week later, my key got completely stuck in the lock and I was locked out. I used my neighbors phone to call both emergency maintenance and the office - after an hour and several mosquito bites later, they finally came to let me into my apartment. They eventually fixed the lock, leaving the same oily dirty residue on the door that was impossible to clean. Staff: I wanted to move out early, so I let my landlords know that if they could find a tenant before my move out date (August 31), and as long as they gave me a few days notice, I could move out at any time. Their communication was terrible so I emailed them daily checking on this. One of the leasing agents sent me an email saying they found a tenant that was going to move in August 1. I made arrangements to move out the last week of July. Then the leasing agent said they actually weren't moving in until August 15th and, even after talking to the manager, they made me pay rent after August 1st (when I had fully moved out of the apartment). Finally, I cleaned this place spotless - all surfaces were scrubbed and it was much cleaner than when I moved in. Despite meeting them for a move out inspection, I was still charged $150 from my deposit for a cleaning fee which was beyond ridiculous. I wish I had taken pictures of the apartment before I left so I could argue that cleaning fee. These people are terrible. read more

I only wish I had the option of putting zero star here: it's simply the worst leasing experience I've ever had. I lived in their Loop Loft property for one year and half, which is one year and a half of continuously fighting with their trying to charge us whenever they can and putting up with the rude staff at Frontdoor office. I'll break it down now. One example on overcharging. I had an additional key request once and accidentally paid them twice, for which I asked for a refund but only got their saying they realized the double payment but they cannot give it back to me, and they would create another charge to "justify" my additional payment. I was speechless. The staff working there always talk with an attitude; unhelpful and arrogant is the only way I can describe it. Beyond that, there seems to be no internal communication inside the company that you can never get anything done before you talk to multiple departments. If you leave something or a message at the front desk, don't expect it to be delivered to the appropriate department. Guess what's more ridiculous? Somehow they sensed the feedback from their tenants, so they sent out an email on 6/18/2013: "If you give us a positive review on a website that has feedback/testimonials/recommendations, we'll give you a $50 credit to your ledger. It truly is that easy." And it's truly that bad. All in all, DO NOT live there if you don't want to mess up your life. read more

If it were up to me, I wouldn't have even given this company a one star rating. When looking at off campus apartments close to SLU, I immediately thought of Front Door. After touring several apartments it seemed like a no brain-er. All inclusive rent, gym, and laundry facility on site were the final selling point. When move-in day came, we opened the door to our apartment to find it a mess. After complaining to management, they apologized and sent their crew of 12 year old "summer workers" (slaves) to clean up the mess. Needless to say, they did not do a great job cleaning so the apartment still looked like a disaster. We did a lot of cleaning that day and the apartment looked great! But that was before I knew how Front Door really operated. After 2 weeks of living there, I realized that Front Door was managed by complete morons. In my kitchen, when we would cook on the stove, the two small cabinets above the stove would get so hot that they would melt the gloss finish on the cabinets, making them sticky and near impossible to open. When I contacted the management office they said they would send someone up to see if there was something they could do. 3 weeks later, someone showed up and told us that they would have to charge us $250.00 to fix the problem. Thanks, but no thanks. We also had several light bulbs burn out near the end of our lease. Front Door charged me $65.00 to replace 7 light bulbs. When I disputed the charge and said I could have gone and bought the light bulbs cheaper myself, I was told that I was charged for LABOR as well as materials. Don't the maintenance people get a salary that we are already paying for? And don't even get me started on what a waste of money the parking situation is. I parked on top of Moolah garage and it cost me $60/mo. Not worth it when you still have to shovel snow off of your car and walk up and down the stairs to bring in your groceries. How much is the Coronado lot, you ask? $100+/mo. RIDICULOUS!!! My advice to anyone looking at a Front Door property: RUN! They are nothing but a scam! Thank goodness I had the sense to sign my lease with another leasing company for the upcoming school year. read more

I live in Coronado Place now and I am looking forward to the day I move out. The main upside to Front Door is they own properties that surround SLU's campus, making them incredibly convenient. Amenities are also included, so it is nice not to have to worry about the temperature of the apartment, leaving lights on, long showers, etc. However, the rent is outrageous. My apartment will cost $1625/month starting in June for a 2 bedroom/1 bathroom. The apartment is relatively nice, but the wood floors are destroyed from previous owners' heels and the appliances are only relatively new. In addition to rent, you must also pay for laundry and parking. Many of the laundry machines do not work and parking is only moderately safe. The price of the apartments around SLU does include a pool and workout facility, but the pool is very small considering 4 different properties have access to it and there is only about 4 chairs to sit in (it is also located on top of the parking garage...). The workout equipment often does not work and is rarely replaced. Customer service is terrible. The maintenance men and security guards are very nice and usually helpful in the evenings... But 95% of the people who work in the Front Door leasing office are incompetent. They do not communicate with each other and the majority of the time nobody knows what's going on. Granted, they have a lot of properties to run, but there is only one accountant. I have been down to the office 5 times and still can't see my ledger online, which is too bad because 5 months after we moved in a mysterious $500 credit showed up on our ledger. Apparently they had forgotten about it. As an apology, they took off two $10 lock out key charges from our rent. Stellar. The safety around SLU is decent. The keycards keep most people out of the building, but it is not impossible to get in. I also know two people in the past six months that have been robbed on the sidewalk right outside my building. Overall, if you are willing to pay the absurd amount of money simply for the convenience, go for it. Otherwise, I highly suggest looking at leasing with somebody else. read more

I've rented from FrontDoor LLC for 18mos and just renewed my lease. I noticed some of the other reviews were disturbed by their dealing with the office staff and irritation with the accessibility of certain amenities. It may be the location, I don't know, but I've been at Loop Lofts for a year and a half and I really enjoy my apartment the neighbors and the onsite staff. Luckily for me there is 24hour security. I find that the onsite staff happen to be some of the nicest individuals around. We're lucky enough to have packages delivered/picked-up at all hours of the day. When I've had large packages that I cannot get by myself, the staff has always offered to help. Any issues I've had that require maintenance are timely answered. The security key cards allow for easy access to only tenants and help keep my complex safe. I'd be lying if I said there haven't been hiccups; but I've been a renter for 15 years and HAVE ALWAYS had hiccups. It's how the leasing company handles them that creates the tone of the landlord-tenant relationship. Anytime I've had an issue or problem it's been handled quickly and professionally. I've enjoyed my time as a tenant at Loop Lofts and, like I said above, I've renewed my lease. read more

I would like to begin by stating that my experience with Frontdoor ended before leasing an apartment. I viewed, applied for, and was approved for an apartment in the Loop Lofts. Upon approval I was emailed about when I could pay the non-refundable holding deposit (the entire security deposit must be paid in order to take the apartment off the market, if one decides not to move into the apartment, the entire deposit will be forfeited). Considering that the deposit was considerable, I requested to see the apartment one more time and pay the deposit in person. Via email on a Friday I was told that this was fine and asked when I would like to see it. On Monday I responded that I would like to see it on Wednesday. I did not receive a response. On Wednesday, I emailed stating that I hadn't heard back and offering a different date and time. After close on Wednesday, I received an email stating that the apartment I was interested in was unavailable (rented to someone else) and that there would not be a matching one until August. When I called to voice my complaint I heard only a standard "this is the policy of any leasing agency" response. I was offered a slight discount on a unit that will be available after the date I wanted to move by and with a different layout. To summarize, I paid an application fee which merely allowed them to run a hard check on my credit without any hold on the apartment. I was told that the period of time I needed to feel comfortable paying the deposit was fine and then was not told when the apartment was leased to someone else contrary to the implicit agreement that had been made. This level of mis- and non-communication is not honorable. It is particularly worrisome when added to the numerous (but more dated) complaints about having difficulties receiving security deposits back. While the application fee is not major by any means, a lost $60 (2 applications were needed for my situation) is not pleasurable. I would advise people to be very weary of dealing with Frontdoor. I suspect that some of their prices are lower because they weasel so much extra money from non-refundable pet deposits, non-refunding pre-lease deposits, and kept security deposits. read more

I loving living in Loop Lofts and have lived here for about a year and half! Being just north of the Delmar Loop, the Delmar metro stop, and Forest Park make the location great! The staff that work in the office at our building are great and super helpful when you need assistance. A huge plus about living here is how dog friendly Front Door is for Loop Lofts and the flat pet fee versus the deposit plus pet rental every other apartment does in STL! Its also really nice that rent is all inclusive so you don't have to worry about guessing what your utilities will be each month. Anytime I have had a complaint Front Door staff has addressed it and taken care of it promptly. read more

First, let me start by saying that I have been a tenant with Front Door for the past 6 years. I started out in the properties in The Grove area and now live in the Central West End in The Carleton. I can't imagine renting from anyone else given my history and experiences with this company, obviously since I have been with them for 6 years! The apartments are modern and updated with the locations mostly being centrally located. Maintainance requests are promptly attended to and the staff is courteous and polite. I don't have to mail my rent or go to the office to pay it because they offer online services for everything including Maintainance requests and paying rent. This is super convenient if you are busy or if you don't have a car. I have rented from large property mgmt companies and and independent owners alike and none of them could hold a candle to the services that Front Door provides. I could go on and on but this company is the best of the best and I certainly wouldn't have been a tenant for this long of that weren't the case. As a side note, when considering the bad reviews on this site I offer you this. No property management company is perfect, neither are the people who work there and neither are you. My best advice is that when requesting maintenance, be polite and detailed in your email and phone conversations. It will get you far in getting what you want done....done!
