First of all, let's talk about how the location is perfect for students who attend Saint Louis…read moreUniversity. I can just walk across the street and I'm right at the clocktower. Especially when I have pain in my legs/back since I suffer from a disability, its easier to get to class when the location of where I live is closer. Second, the Starbucks deluxe machine in their internet cafe has CHAI TEA LATTE which is perfect for me because I don't drink coffee. Sidebar: I used to live at standard, but decided not to sign again because I couldn't afford to pay the high rent even with the renewal discount they offered. After knowing that the University Heights Lofts now called the City Lofts Laclede went through a million dollar renovation and management transition I decided to give it a tour. The only difference I noticed between the two apartment complexes was the fact that Standard comes furnished and washer/dryer in house. I can overlook these differences due to the obvious price difference. With the lofts, my living room square space is bigger which means my roommate and I can bring our own furniture and furnish the place to our tastes. I also adopted a rescue dog recently and love that there is a fenced area behind the parking garage for my dog to roam around freely without a leash. Staff is always helpful and ready to go the extra mile to help us out.

Washing and drying your clothes is free, which is really nice as they have accommodations. What are some bad things about City Lofts? The roof is leaky, so instead of fixing it they like to put buckets around the building to catch the rainwater. If they miss a spot, expect flooding. The main office has this interesting policy where they will try not to release packages to you until they have it "checked in" and you "notified" even though you paid for the package with your own money. So yes, they will keep your package hostage essentially. The office itself closes at 6 PM so if your package arrives at like say, 3 PM, they will keep it until the last minute or sometimes the very next day. You have to insist you need it right then and there. Finally, if you are attending SLU's school of nursing or medical school, City Lofts is a 25 minute walk and a 10 minute bus ride away. If you want to understand how City Lofts views it's residents, please take a look at this photograph attached to this review. This photo was found in one of its elevators.

I had a great experience living at University Meadows for a year (2014-2015) while attending UMSL…read more I loved the location, the services/amenities, and most of all, the people. I chose Meadows because I wanted to be close to school. I could walk to class in less than 10 minutes, or take the campus bus or bike there in 5 minutes. A Metrolink stop is less than half a mile away. I didn't own a car while attending UMSL, so the Meadows location, with easy access to campus and transit, was a HUGE plus for me. I shared a two-bedroom apartment with a roommate. Meadows matched me with a roommate (who was really nice), which was great because I didn't know anyone when I moved there. The bedrooms are fairly small, but I loved that we each had our own bathroom. My rent was $563/month. My monthly electric bill, including heat and air conditioning, ranged from $15 (in October) to $51 (in December). Wi-fi is free. Maintenance was OUTSTANDING. If something in my apartment needed to be fixed, I put in a maintenance request on the Meadows website and it was fixed in less than a day. Bryant and the whole maintenance team were super nice and super knowledgeable. The whole complex was clean and well kept. I loved that Meadows is smoke free. I loved the pool, which was well maintained and great for relaxing during the warmer months. I also enjoyed the different events and parties that Meadows holds to create a sense of community. One of my favorites was an international food event where residents from different countries cooked food from their home countries and the party consisted of going around from apartment to apartment sampling the different foods. Another favorite was the root beer float party (yum) hosted by Steph, the wonderful RA from my building. If you enjoy meeting people from all over the world and the country, you're in luck at Meadows. The people at Meadows made it a great place to live. Dana, the assistant manager, Mike, the manager, are kind, considerate, helpful, and professional. They went out of their way to make Meadows feel like home. All the students working at Meadows were super nice. I'm truly grateful to everyone at Meadows for making my year there such a positive experience.

It's unfortunate that this is the only choice for on-campus housing at UMSL other than dorms. My…read moredaughter lived there for two years. From the beginning, it was just an extremely frustrating experience. The contract is a joke. The place could quite literally burn to the ground, and contractually you still have to pay rent while they have no obligation to provide alternative accommodations. I would never have signed the contract given any other viable choice. On move-in day year 1, which was limited to no more than 3 days before classes started, the deadbolt lock froze up. The maintenance man busted lock through the door frame to get us in, then left with no way to secure the apartment. Said he'd be back the next day to fix it. Next day? No way I was leaving my daughter with no way to lock her door. Had to buy a temporary rekeyable lock to key to the original keys and piece the frame back together so she and her roommate wouldn't be left unprotected. It ended up being 3 months before they finally came back to fix the frame and replace the lock, then had the nerve to say we shouldn't have done any repairs ourselves. Spiders were a problem, so my daughter was constantly spraying peppermint spray, which spiders don't like, to keep the spiders at bay. One of the panes in her double-pane bedroom window was broken before move-in. It was the summer between years 1 & 2 before that got fixed. They charge monthly rent for the furniture, which was supposed to be all new at move-in. Not only was everything not new, there was no couch or chair in the living room. After several complaints and at least 2 months, they finally got the chair, but no couch. After more calls and requiring a partial refund on the furniture rent, they finally got a used couch that had only one useable sitting spot. We were eventually told the couch, which had supposedly been on back order, wasn't coming and it would be the next year before it was replaced. I about lost it. My daughter was adamant about not living in the dorm, so against my better judgment, we signed up for a second year. Big surprise, when my daughter checked with her roommate, who had stayed the summer, there was still no new couch three days before move-in year 2. After an angry call, they finally delivered the new couch. The furniture "rent", which started at $50/month and increased to $55/month year 2, would buy everything in that apartment over the course of 2 years, especially considering they get that x2 when there are roommates. Two or three last things that were ridiculous were that move-in is mid-month, but they charge a full month and still limit you to moving in the weekend before classes start. Same thing with move-out. It's mid-month, full month's rent and have to be out the weekend after classes end, and they only have someone in the office until 1:00pm on move-out weekend making it about impossible to demand an inspection and return of security deposit before turning in keys. Lastly, before writing this, and what triggered me again, was calling about the security deposit refund. I was told it takes them 60-90 days to issue the refunds, and they send them snail-mail. Given their history, I can almost guarantee that won't happen without a nasty call or visit. I'm sure there were other frustrations, but I think that proves my point. Good luck, if you can't find any other option.

I can say overall my apartment is what I need. I appreciate the all inclusive bills and my own…read morewasher and dryer. When it comes to my experience with the office staff majority of them are friendly and helpful. My only gripe is that on at least two occasions I had mail at the office for at least two days a piece and was never notified that it was there (although the claim is that tenants are suppose to receive a call if they have packages waiting). When it comes to maintenance I have yet to have a positive experience. Due to this I've requested that I be called prior to their arrival and that we arrange for them to come when I am home. The calling ahead of time has been spotty, I can say the last time they came I was called; but the two times prior I was not. I have come home to my kitchen being covered in paint dust, my trash can being dirtied by paint, shoes on my counter, a flooded muddied bathroom, soaked rugs placed on dry rugs, my items moved from an area unrelated to the problem area etc. I have lived in many places and know it is best to stay professional and polite or things will progress to hell. I am actually a pretty pleasant person, but I have finally lost my patience. If I have any more issues with maintenance for the remainder of my lease (nearly a yr left) I will definitely not resign my lease for the following year. Overall id rate this property at a 3 (more of a 3.5 for location and amenities, and office staff, but due to the above description I have to say 3).

If I could give zero stars I would, but here we are…read more I rented from this company in the Chouteau Lofts Apts for 4 years. In the beginning it was actually great. Management was responsive and timely with things like maintenance requests. They raised my rent every year $25/month and claimed this was for maintenance. They also entered my apartment multiple times per year to do "preventative maintenance". Over the years it became impossible to even get regular needed maintenance. I had multiple instances of my air conditioning going out and people not wanting to come repair it or leave a window unit not attached to the windows. Fast forward to me moving out. I moved because of my job, but likely wouldn't have stayed in this apartment as it was getting more expensive and there was no maintenance done to upkeep it. I moved out on 6/9, I was told I'd receive a prorated refund for the rest of June's rent. Instead it took multiple phone calls and emails over several weeks for me to receive a check for $175 that was nowhere close to the $600+ it should have been. Effectively I was lied to, stolen from, or both. I also only received $30 of my security deposit refund. Large deductions were for things like the blinds, which I was told on several of those "preventative maintenance" visits that they were measuring and going to install new ones. The icing on the cake is them charging me $120 of my security deposit to paint the ceilings. The only thing wrong with the ceiling was due to their own shoddy work. A couple years into my lease an upstairs neighbor drilled into the wall hitting a pipe causing water damage in my apartment below. Instead of repainting the whole ceiling they repainted only patches of what was damaged. Clearly they can't rent the apartment with an unfinished paint job of the ceiling and I get to pick up the tab. Tl;dr: This company will lie to you, charge you extra money for no reason and provide a subpar living experience. All while lacking basic communication skills.

I'm honestly not quite sure why all these reviews are so negative about this complex. I saw one of…read morethe posts mentioned that it is under new management? Regardless, I have had no issues or complaints about the complex. Things I have enjoyed: 1) Great price, low electric bills, free hi-speed internet, and free cable (which I never used) 2) There is always lots of parking, and if it gets full for some reason, you can park along the street. In another comment, someone said that you get in trouble if you do that? I have never seen someone get in trouble and there are cars parked along the street everyday. Again, maybe new management? 3) Very friendly staff and quick maintenance. A shelf was coming loose in the closet and maintenance came out the same day. 4) Hardwood floors are great because you never have to worry about carpet stains, and it's super easy to clean. 5) There is a dog park on site (if you have a pet or want to pet other people's dogs -- they're all super friendly) 6) Laundry facility onsite, and I believe there is a nice gym (although I have never used it) 7) Really close to grocery stores and shopping. Everything I need is within 1 mile. Negative: 1) Sometimes you can hear the neighbor talking when they have people over, but I can't name an apartment complex where this isn't an issue. Overall, if you are a student, and want to get off campus where it is more quiet, this is a great place to live. It's like a 5 minute drive to campus which is great for sleeping into as long as possible.

I've been reading the reviews and wow...they certainly are interesting…read more I lived there 31 years ago when I worked at WCIL radio, so I guess this may not count since they've probably been sold a couple of times. At the time I was paying about $225 to $250 for my duration. I have to admit the one bedroom I had ugly wood paneling, so it appears they have improved the decor and the rent does not seem to have increased to an insulting degree. I never had any maintenance issues, so I didn't have to deal with that. However, I was irritated that I gave them a key for emergencies which meant everything was an emergency. Letting the bug guy in. Putting packages inside the door. Whatever. I worked at night, so I didn't appreciate someone roaming around while I snoozed. After my wife moved in we didn't have any problems with parking. The only BIG problem was a couple who were on Section 8 downstairs. A former boyfriend of the woman came over to start a fight and after a few minutes of arguing, "Bang, bang, bang." Gunfire and three holes through the glass door going outside. I can only say that management got them out within 24 hours. I hope everyone else can have better experiences than what I'm reading. Hey, it was never a high end place, but it got me through a few single years.
