I was having an eye issue and Fromer was recommended by a family member who is a regular. They took me without an appointment even though it was the end of the day and they could have easily turned me away. But they didn't. The ophthalmologist was thorough and provided excellent care as did everyone I came across from the receptionist to the office manager and medical assistants. Everything was fine in the end. This office is very poorly run. We left feeling extremely frustrated and unhappy with the way we were treated. First, despite arriving early, we encountered a long way. From start the finish, our routine eye check-up took over 2 hours. They overbook patients, knowing that it will cause long wait times. A routine eye visit should not take 2 hours. Second, after our examination was complete, we were informed that they did not perform an eyeglass exam and that if we wanted it, there would be an additional charge of $25 and an additional wait. Why should getting prescriptions for eyeglasses require two separate visits to the doctor and an additional $25 charge? In all my years of going to the eye doctor, I have never experienced anything like this. Third, we also asked to be fitted for contact lens. They charge $225 for contact fitting and at least 2 additional visits each with co-pays. The entire experience was disrespectful and abusive of my time. Got kids up early for an 8:45 appointment on a holiday. Get there to find people waiting in the hallway outside the office. call -- told they're not opening until 10. They couldn't call us to let us know, we had to go there and be told they weren't opening. The 8:30 appointment was a 90 year old woman. This is this most dysfunctional facility. AVOID at all cost! The blonde receptionist up front is an incompetent scheduler and takes no accountability for the lack of communication regarding scheduling. It's clear from the reviews that this is a persistent issue with this facility and it needs to be taken up with the Better Business Bureau. I will be filing a complaint with them as well. My mom traveled twice to Forrest Hills to have an appointment with Dr. Former. The first visit, she drives out to the office and they claimed to have called her to cancel because he was not in. Fine, everyone makes mistakes - I can let that slide. Second appointment approximately two weeks later, she gets a text the night before to confirm her appointment and off she goes to her scheduled and confirmed appointment the following afternoon. She arrived just to be told that the same Dr. Mark Former was not in and they do not know when he is coming back. How unorganized and inept can you be when you don't know that your doctor is not in and you still schedule patients for him? A text was sent to my mom to confirm her appointment the day before despite the office knowing the doctor would not be in! The staff took zero time to call and leave a voicemail. She was not the first patient of the day so why would you not even try calling the morning of to inform her? This is extremely unacceptable! TWICE their reception messed up my appointment which had me waiting hours and hours for either the wrong doctor or just nothing. The first time I wasted my life here I waited for 90 minutes before I asked where I was in the queue as it's a work day and the receptionist informed me she hasn't even put my in because there was an issue with my insurance. When I hear Fromer, it's not eyeballs that come to mind, it's hotdogs -- from Chicago -- and I'm not sure even if they exist at all. But on this day it was in fact eyeball inspection and testing. More specifically my left one that's been giving me problems for almost three years now. The gauntlet of every test available was administered as the hours of the day vanished quickly, yet slow at the same time. The minutes were long but the hours were fast -- all told, five in all. New and modern looking equipment with Japanese names that turned and spun with the lightest touch from the weakest finger. (guess Kaiser lost that stronghold) My problem was explained to me again. I wanted to say how I know it all too well and that another run of the mill explanation is unnecessary, but Dr. Tran's kindness and sincerity wouldn't permit me to do so. Once my last follow-up is done, I will never come back to this place again. It's overcrowded, does not adhere to covid guidelines, and is poorly managed. I also found the experience racist and micro-aggressive. My insurance provider helped me select this place and even called me to book an appointment n the phone. Every document and insurance card they needed was sent well in advance. They pretended as if it wasn't and only proceeded to check once I arrived. And then made me wait behind patients who arrived way after me. They also never explained the process or how long the visit would be, and when I inquired, I was treated with discontent and disdain. The worst part is the receptionist and lab tech got my name incorrect 5 times, despite me correcting them, and dismissed me when I did. This was insulting and honestly felt racist. They also got my prescription wrong 3X, which took several hours to fix, and the pharmacist finally had to step to tell them what medication to provide. Disgusting office, terrible staff. The entire staff here is fantastic! Everyone is super friendly and helpful, and I always have a pleasant experience when I visit. I had a cataract removed by Dr. Fromer last fall and the surgery went so smoothly, despite my nerves. He finished in about five minutes, and today was my post op check up to see how everything healed and my eye is as good as ever. Dr. Fromer himself is a joy to be around as well! She was able to identify the issue and prescribe me exactly what was needed. After a long research about LASIK I made the decision it was time to get the job done! I was recommended to Dr. Mark Fromer by my eye doctor at Station Square Eyes. Made the call and set the appointment for July 19th. The day of the appointment I went to the Forest Hills office and I was completely in shock to see the amount of people on that waiting room! It was unbelievable, I have never seen so many people in one place!! I may understand others reviews about the long wait and all that but please, if your doctor is a good one! A lot of people will love to get treated by him/her. We live in a city where there are millions of people and we try to get the best of the best. Guess what? Sometimes you may need to be PATIENT! Why rush things? We are always rushing to get to point Z but we don't enjoy the things in between! Life it's too short! Sometimes they may get delay with a customer so you may have to wait a bit more but that's life. We can't predict or always run on time! Keep that in mind :) I spoke to the receptionist and told her about my appointment for LASIK, I was worried I would have to wait 2+hrs to see the doctor but since I was a whole different procedure I was called in minutes. The Outreach Manager Ladan A. Took me to a room to explain the procedures and test that were going to be done that day. After I agreed to them I was moving forward... they do various test and the process is a bit long, about 1-2 hrs maybe more in some cases. Finally after all test were done I was introduced to Dr. Fromer to discuss the results and decided what procedure was appropriate in my case. After a few minutes we decided PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy) because its recovery time is slower than LASIK and there's not a flap involve. But in my case it was more secure, plus I had the time to recover. In PRK the Epithelium repairs itself within a few days of surgery . So, I signed a few forms and I was set for surgery the following week (if you wear contacts you need to not use them for 14 days before getting surgery) I used to wear glasses so I was ready! The day of the surgery is here July 25th at 8am. Manhattan Eye & Ear. Ladan was waiting for me. Went into the lobby, a little paper work, then I was getting prepped for surgery, a few drops in my eyes to get them ready ( it took more time to get my eyes prepare than the actual surgery) and to surgery I go! It's a very interesting procedure, I was very calm, I didn't need any medicine to get me calm or relax. I gotta say they use some drops that feels like ice! And when the laser is working on your eye (it takes seconds) you smell this burn flesh type of smell But nothing to worry about. After the surgery is done the doctor places protective contact lenses and tells you a few instructions and you are all set to go! The following day is your 1st appointment to check how everything went. During the first 3 days I did not open my eyes (only to put the drops) but I found from previous research that it decreases by a lot the level of discomfort you feel after surgery, so I did not experience any discomfort. I guess it worked! Now, it took me about 1 month to recover and be able to see decent. If you do PRK try taking off 2 weeks from work. ( still with 2 weeks I couldn't see my computer screen perfectly) The first 3 months is where majority of the changes happen. All in all, I'm very happy with the results and all the people involve. Specially Dr. Mark Fromer. I'm a bit mad it took me so long to decided and do the surgery. But hey! It happens hahaha! I definitely recommend Dr. Fromer he knows his stuff. Thank you Dr. Fromer. From the moment I entered the office, the staff did everything possible to make me comfortable which isn't easy during these times. I was taken care of almost immediately. The fact that they screened me the second I arrived was comforting. The nurse that initially examined me was kind and extremely knowledgeable. She explained my issue in a simple way and put me at ease when things didn't sound too good. The doctor was also top notch. I have been avoiding going to the ophthalmologist for years because of a bad experience I had several years ago and I am so relieved to have an eye doctor that I can trust . During my biannual eye exam, my optometrist informed me I had a cataract in my right eye that would deteriorate and increasingly interfere with my vision. The doctor recommended I have the surgery performed at the FROMER EYE CENTER, and he provided me with a written referral to FROMER to perform the cataract surgery. I had the surgery done on July 5th, 2016, with a comprehensive pre-surgery eye exam about a month earlier. After the surgery itself, I returned for three post-surgery eye exams to monitor the progress of the eye's healing. When I completed my last visit on August 3rd, I was very pleased to find that my surgically restored right eye had 20/20 distance vision. I was very impressed with the knowledge, professionalism, courtesy, and patience shown by ALL of the doctors, technicians, receptionists, and office manager I had contact with. I would especially like to commend Fernando, the first technician I had contact with on the first office visit. His friendly, upbeat manner immediately put me at ease, removing most of the anxiety I had been experiencing. He was able, by his personality, to foster in me a more relaxed state that enabled me to get through the long day. Also, I honestly feel that Fernando helped create in me a more confident, relaxed mood that lasted for my entire experience at the Forest Hills FROMER EYE CENTER. Margie, the office manager, must be singled out for special praise. After I had completed the battery of state-of-the-art eye tests, and had discussed the surgery with Doctor Fromer, she spent almost an hour with me on that first office visit, providing me with, and discussing, the information I needed to prepare for the surgery and what to do/not do after the surgery. I also called her several times prior to the surgery to make sure I understood, and followed, the pre- and post-surgery instructions correctly and that I did everything necessary to assure a successful outcome. Her patience with me was truly outstanding and greatly appreciated. In my opinion, besides Dr. Fromer's expert surgery, Margie's help was most instrumental in my having a successful surgery and recovery. I am a very impatient person, so I can understand why many patients feel the office waits are too long. On my first visit to the Forest Hills FROMER EYE CENTER, I spent about five hours in the office, meeting with five different groups of technicians, doctors, and an office manager. Later, after further reflection, I realized the system was actually well organized.....in fact, I could see that the system of moving patients along from one step to the next was well thought out. I could not, in good conscience, blame the Center for the long waits because there were so many time-consuming tests that had to be performed, doctors/specialists that had to be seen, and finally, so many patients. At least in my case, although the waits were long, I understand why these waits were unavoidable. The restoration of the vision in my right eye is my reward for being patient. I showed up on time for my 11am appointment and I see 15 people already in the waiting room. Today's only doctor was the 1 doctor I was seeing. I asked the receptionist how long the wait was and she said it'll be "shortly" as the doctor is running on schedule. I saw the technician in about 10 minutes and then I was asked to go back into the waiting room. An hour later, I am still waiting to see the doctor. I asked the receptionist and she said another 20 minutes. In 30 minutes, I was shown into an exam room. Another 20 minutes goes by and the doctor finally comes in. I appreciate the change of scenery but almost 2 hours of waiting time is unacceptable. This appears to be a very common problem based on other yelp reviews. A little bit of wait is expected because of last minute emergencies but to find 15 people already waiting to see the same doctor and she is running "on schedule" is just crap. I have better things to do then to waste a Saturday sitting around a waiting room. I added another star because I really liked Dr Marina Su but I won't be coming back here again because of the long wait times. read more

If I could rate Fromer as a ZERO I would. I had multiple video appointments with them during COVID and then scheduled an office visit at the Park Ave location. I arrived on time and waited almost 2 hours before leaving. I was horrified at the number of patients they booked for the day and the office waiting room was VERY crowded. People were even waiting outside the building due to crowned conditions. They have no COVID protocol and are literally endangering people by the crowded conditions and extended time period you are required wait for appoint. I left without seeing a Dr. after paying up front. I am reporting them to the city of NYC Health Dept. Do not go!! read more

I have witnessed his work for years with two very successful surgeries on my husband. Personally, I have gone there for several years and I'm very pleased with them. In addition, when there was an issue with contact lenses for me, Dr. Fromer bent over backward to be accommodating and correct the situation. Fromer Eye Center is amazing. I lost my insurance during covid and had a serious eye infection. This place has been wonderful helping me recover and they were easy on my pockets. I had to see a physician 10 days consecutively, I paid the initial payment and was able to receive care there after without having to come out of pocket unnecessarily.
