Came to this GVS location after employer's coverage changed. Found that GVS stores operate like a chain store lacking personal touch in their services. As soon as you enter, they asked for your coverage and then send you to the waiting area to get your eyes checked. Waited over a hour as a walk-in. Afterwards, they try to sell you expensive frames beyond what are covered. Covered frames are very limited in variety and selection is minimal. Staff is polite, friendly and knowledgeable. I got the wrong prescription when I went to pick up. Don't think I will patronize this store in the future. read more

Nope. Tried to sell a single vision lens glasses with the cheapest frame available for $600. Not a designer frame. Or bifocals or even a special lens. Just a cheap pair of glasses you can buy anywhere for less than $100. Heck even LensCrafters wouldn't have the nerve to charge that much, and you expect to be ripped off there for the convenience and quick turnaround time. I mean charge whatever you want but the only reason we were charged such an absurd amount was because we mentioned the need for a timetable, so they thought we were desperate. Just don't be rude when we leave and yell at us to come back after such an absurd attempt at price gouging. read more

I went for the first time, my Union gives me $100 off. What a rip-off, they jacked the contact lens up $100 and took off $100! The service was very rushed. The eye doctor, the contact lens and the eye glass counter sales person. I had an appointment and I still had to sit and wait 45 minutes until they saw me. Terrible service. They try to sell all the top brands even when you tell them your price range. Awful experience. I will not go back. I will go to a real Opthamologist and have my eyes checked. I've been coming here for a few years now and service is okay. The staff are helpful where they can be and offer great guidance when selecting frames. I took a star off for the wait time. The wait even before COVID has always been the con for me. Everything else, service, sufficient guidance when selecting frames, and even interacting with the doctor and the staff is cool, but the wait time drives me crazy every time. I purchased my glasses from the Flatbush Avenue location earlier this year with a warranty.I was told that if they should break in a year they would be replaced at no charge, the lies we tell. Well guess what they broke so I went back to get them replace. First of all the rep said to me that the breakage was self inflicted. 66 Court Street The only good thing about GVS is the extensive eye examination from the eye doctors upstairs. They're great! After the exam is when the "used car salesman" pitch begins. Downstairs.. They try to basically "bully" you into purchasing their OVERPRICED designer frames and if it's out of your budget, they'll try to bully you into their "payment programs" or demand half of the total price to start the job. A bunch of slicksters. If you call to inquire about the ETA, the first question is "Do you have a balance?" When you come to pick it up, "Do you have a balance?" That's ALL they care about. Money..that's it! Very Very Pushy. And, the manager...she has a nasty attitude. I feel bad for the ONE salesperson that has some sort of morals...starts with a "P". You're too good for GVS. My suggestion is, get your eyes exam upstairs then take your prescription somewhere else. If you're going to pay top dollar, at least be treated with dignity and not be bullied. Will NEVER patronize them again. A bunch of rip-off artists. A whole crew of women scrambling around behind one counter...they must be compensated by commission only. AND, it shows. Smh. read more

Here is a -5 starts I left my frames here to get a new prescription in my lenses. DAVID, the man that is suppose to take care of that job, took my beautiful David Yurman glasses and gladly told me the work will be done in 2 weeks. A month past by and they never called me to tell me they were done, so I showed up at the store and my glasses were there, ready for me to wear. I tried them on quick to see if the prescription was well done and it was, so I put them back on the case and went home. I wear contacts so my frames were sitting in my drawer for a month or so. Until last Friday that I went to get them to finally wear them during the weekend and found out that the frame had actually broken and had been glued together! I come to the store to discuss the situation. David saw me and immediately recognized me, I told him about it what happened to my frame while is his possession and he told me "so what are you gonna do? What are you doing here? We take no responsibility" and he ran out like a little kid runs away after he gets caught doing something wrong. A nice lady that works there apologize for David (not the manager of the store) just like a mom does apologize for his mischievous kid. I appreciate the apology from the lady but my nice frames are still broken and well... glued together ... nice job on gluing together the broken pieces thought at least I can still wear them... read more

I came in extremely nervous because I've always had 20/20 vision but as a designer I sit in front of a computer all day and I could tell that my eyes were slowly going in and out of focus. I knew it would eventually happen being that I look at screens all day but I didn't know what to expect. I came in and say Dr. Serra. Well all of my nerves went away immediately, she was professional and knowledgeable. She made sure I understood exactly what was going on and what I could do to prevent my eyes from getting any worse. It's safe to say that I'll be coming back to her for any future eye care needs. Thankfully this was a great experience as I know other people don't have the best doctor experiences. I think the fact Dr. Serra was so nice and personable really helped too, she's young and so friendly so it helped calm my nerves. Dr. Serra was incredibly caring, and I really felt like she had my best interest at heart. My appointment felt relaxed, informative, and was as enjoyable as an eye appointment can be. I came in because I noticed my vision was bad at night when I drove. I saw Dr. Serra who made me feel super comfortable. I'm usually nervous when I see doctors but she was so kind. The tests were quick and not bad at all. Afterwards she gave me a prescription for glasses which I purchased at the store. I'm very happy with the level of service I've received from the Doctor and from the staff. They are very detailed and take the time to explain your options. I do want to say thank you especially to Alex, the manager, as she was very professional and very helpful. She is a great asset to GVS General Vision. She assisted me very quickly after I notified her that I'm using my lunch hour. She quickly brought out some glass that she felt would look good on me and answered all my questions. What a bunch of liars and thieves.I always get single vision lenses but the sales woman convinced me to get progressive lenses, huge mistake, by far the worst lenses I ever got.every where you look it's blurry, you must look down the center of the lens to see clear, you must swivel your head like a top to see clear, garbage! When I brought it back the next day they sent everyone in the store to convince me not to return them,I didn't have it,I returned it and they got me my usual single vision lenses which is $150 cheaper but refused to refund me the difference, they even messed up my single lens pair, finally after about a month they got it right after 5 visits.this place used to be good but with this new management it's really bad.stay away from these thieves! read more

My appt. time was for 3... I got there 2:45 as I know your initial visit, there is paperwork to be filled. I didn't get to see the doctor until well after 5:30. Then I was told to sit after my exam to choose frames, etc. That was another hour wait. When I called on the phone, the person hung up the phone on me in mid-sentence. Dr. Smirnova is a phenomenal optometrist. I needed to get a new prescription for glasses and contacts. She spend so much time trying to find the perfect fit for me, I never felt rushed. She is so gentle and explained everything she was doing step by step. She answered every question I had and made me feel very comfortable. I would definitely come back to her, it's nice to finally have a doctor who really cares about her patients. She is there mondays and Thursdays. read more

It cost the same for cheaper looking frames and not only that, my so called transitions lenses still got me squinting in the sun because they barely darken. Should have stuck to what I know. Every time I have come here, I have had a great experience with Dr. Serra. Whether it was just a check up to see if my prescription changed, or if I was having an issue with my contact lenses bothering me, Dr. Serra was always extremely attentive, caring, and gentle, as I am sensitive about having my eyes touched and examined. I went here with my grandmother which was a huge mistake! My appt was for 4:00 & 4:30 and we were there until after 7, the manager was yelling at one of the employees threatening him so inappropriately & the Dr was so frustrated with being there so late that when my grandmother was doing her exam she asked her to Hurry up through her vision exam. They told us the glasses would be done on Tuesday which was 4 days after our exam, 2 weeks later & we still never got a call that they were ready and when I called twice I never got a call back as promised. To top it off when I did go to pick up the glasses they made me wait an hour for the copy of the prescription and the employee who we had to go to pick up the glasses was mumbling how he needs a drink "he's gunna drink himself sober" & how he dosent wanna come in to work, & all his wild alcoholic stories from his trip to New Orleans in a office filled with patients and their kids...He's also the employee who wrote the wrong name wrong & didn't fill out my prescription the right way!!!! The only nice thing I have to say about this place is that it was clean & the receptionist was very polite. GVS lost 2 customers & my grandmother has to get another exam done elsewhere!!! Never coming here again!!!! No professionalism at all!!!! read more
