Long established in the neighborhood.... Dr Sklar, is the original owner, but there are 2 other doctors and several Optician / frame people. I see some Great reviews and some curmudgeon ones. Yeah, they are not "cheap", but the did have Union frames.. If asked, they have given me some discounts. Still, I like their large top end frame choices... Anyone who complains about 'needing a referral' for their insurance, should not be giving reviews. That said.... I still go there, it always is a nice experience. read more

I strongly recommend this optical store. I went in to get a new pair of glasses as well as have all the tests done for my vision. I called last minute and asked to be seen the same day since I live very close. And from beginning to end the staff was very nice and helpful, answered all my questions in details. Not to mention the Optometrist, Dr Joel F. Sklar is spectacular. He made the whole experience very fun and entertaining. He showed me imagines that were taken after all the tests and explained everything about them, and in the end I was more than satisfied and thankful for for efforts and time. For several months I kept saying to myself ... 'u have to get used to this new prescription' ... And then I decided to put back on the glasses with the old Rx and make an appointment with another Dr and start from fresh. And I did, and I now am completely satisfied. Customer service or the person selling you will upgrade everything to achieve the max price. Never once showed me any frames covered by my insurance carrier. Quick talker. Besides me, I heard how she conducted herself with others. It was a turn off. Worst eye exam I have ever had. As stated above, I pulled out the 'old glasses' and they are clearly better than the 'new ones' on the new Rx by this place. This has been a completely disappointing experience for me and the first time I have been unsatisfied with glasses and I have been wearing them for 40 years. Do NOT go here unless you want to be overcharged for services by a rude unprofessional and pushy sales staff. I had an eye exam, I was NEVER given a prescription and was charged triple the amount of my Health Insurance co-pay rate (this was my first time using my health insurance, so my mistake to not fully understand what to expect) When I realized the wrongful charge after the sale was complete I called them to politely request a refund. I was immediately told that they do not give refunds. On the phone, the lady I spoke to was rude, condescending, and threatening. After several long discussions and three separate phone calls, I finally got a call back from the manager who agreed to give me a refund, but they wanted to keep $15. Fine. I gave them 5 business days to issue the refund and when they failed to do so I was forced to dispute the transaction with my bank. I have had the same checking account for 21 years and this is the first time I have ever disputed a transaction. In a separate round of phone calls with Dr. Sklar almost two weeks after the initial dispute, he quickly became clearly emotional, irate and very rude and even hung up the phone on me mid-sentence and I had to call him back to finish explaining the situation to him. Extremely unprofessional. I don't know who "Dr. Skylar" is in these other seemingly fake reviews, maybe if I interacted with him instead I would have had a transparent, straight forward and respectful experience. read more

I had to renew my driver license so I had to take eye exam. I was looking to see which place near by me who take my coverage. So viewpoint optical take it and is very close to my house. I call to see any appointment are open and there was. Kathryn, doctor Skylar and other staff there are very friendly. They help you out a lot. They help me to choose which glasses looks good. They will call you when the glasses are ready to be pick up. I got my in two week since it was during the Christmas and new year holiday. The price of the glasses are very reasonable. Dr. Sklar keeps up a running patter straight through the eye exams, making the exam not just painless, but actually entertaining. Their appointments are easy to get and they are usually prompt. For walk-in help, they seldom keep you waiting. Nice selection of frames, nice clean, quiet office...and they don't try to upsell you on all kinds of extra stuff. They are trustworthy, professional, pleasant, and provide the service they advertise. This is how businesses are SUPPOSED to be...but so rarely are. I have been going to Dr Sklar for many, many years. He is a wonderful Doctor and has a great sense of humor. Unfortunately the last time I went I had a problem with my vision coverage and spoke to one of the woman at Viewpoint on the phone. She was horribly rude , I over looked it and even attempted to help her resolve the problem by calling back with a phone number which would have taken her directly to someone at vision plan that would have given her the exact information she needed.. I use to like the service there until one day I went there to get glasses and a employee name Kim was very rude and disrespectful. I heard the way she was talking to her coworkers and taking over one of her coworkers sales which was rude. She talks fast and push you into buying glasses saying your getting bells and whistles how is transitions and anti reflective coating bells and whistles.? She beats people out of money and has no manners, and that's very unprofessional. I will not be going back there at all. I went in for an eye exam. I was sent there by Aetna Medicare. It was supposed to be free but they wanted a $20 copay. This was a lie . My insurance company had to call them to correct them and for them to release my r/x for eye glasses. Furthermore Kim my so called eye care expert on handling my flex spending plan tried robbing me by saying my $275 flex money would should be minus $55 for the eye exam leaving me with $220 to spend. However, the receptionist just called and threatened me with Dr. Sklar NOT giving me my prescription,due to me woing them some$$. I was a first time customer there cause I worked in the area, so I went in this place to get a pair of Versace sunglasses for a gift for myself and the sales women who helped me by the name of Kim was very rude and pressured me into getting the sunglasses, I asked her will be getting a new pair of sunglasses because I didn't want the sample pair she told me yes and I also asked her would I be getting a case with my sunglasses she said yes don't worry, I told her I would make partial payments she said ok, to make a long story short I felt as if I was over charged and I was dealt with very unprofessional I called to cancel the order and I was asked a whole bunch of questions to why I wanna cancel the order so I let it be known I felt I was getting the run around. When I went in to talk to the guy john he never came out to talk to me at all he always had me deal with Kim then when I sent my daughter there to get my money back they tried to tell her I paid a different amount then they tried to give her the run around, then she called me and said they told her they couldn't give her the cash back and put the other payment back on my card she told me they wrote me a check. I spoke to several people in the area and they all said the same thing this place use to be ran so much professionally. Kim is a push over she talks you into buying what she wants you to buy and the guy john he never comes out to talk to about your problem but they quick to take your money and give you shitty service, I will never go back there again that's not how conduct business, you want to keep building your business not have bad things said about your business to push people away. read more

I've been going to this place for the past 5 years. I have a really difficult prescription and my face is not exactly symmetrical, so precision in measuring and calculating for the perfect focal point in my progressives is crucial. Dr. Sclar keeps the exams fun and Kim helped me this time around to get my new glasses. For ME personally the whole process is HELL, because my needs for the perfect glasses is so specific. Kim helped me pick out frames and we had fun exploring different styles, they have a great selection. She presented a few frames outside my usual style and I actually LOVE them. I started with the first pair. When they came back.....I was blown away how amazing it felt to see so clearly and have my eyes relaxed and the focal point exactly where it should be with NO adjustments needed. I challenged Kim to do another two pairs for me .......and there they were. PERFECTION! I literally cried. Kim was patient, informative, fun and she actually listened to all my points on the list for a perfect pair of glasses. The reason I'm doing this review is because I went to 3 other places thinking to save some money, and was disappointed every time. So, for a little extra money I came back here. Got an examine here during the summer 2018 in sheepshead bay location for first time in my neighborhood it was the worst experience ever selection for my coverage was about 4 pairs only very cheap frames I seen better in the dollar store. I was on time but the doctor was late I did not mind this but the examine was most important to me for reading glasses it took a few weeks for approval to finalize. I went to pick them up I thought it a bit strange they did not asks me to try them on or read using the new script which is required in most places I been to. shortly after I gave them a go at home I do a lot of work online and to my surprise these new glasses were very blurry so I thought maybe it was me adjusting to them so I compare them to a few pares of older glasses I had from years back. the old pairs were fine but the new ones were very blurry no matter what I read. I thought it strange that in the store they kept asking me for my old glasses I told them they were about 3 years old but did not have them on me at the time and why would they want my 3 year old glasses from another store anyway. I feel there is something very wrong with there process here now I'm stuck with glasses that are totally useless to me so I called and asks for my vision number to compare to my old script the woman at the desk refused to give me even that only that I should come back with those glasses along with my old ones never had to go though this in my 62 years. Please go to a well known place that's highly recommended and avoid this headache I am going though. read more
