I was more shocked at the low prices and huge portions. I am not a huge "meat eater" but love chicken (Kip) and some pork. The lekker smell of smoked meats overcome you when you walk in (a good thing). So many choices of smoked meats, sides and anything you want. You could make a full meal and call it your own from the chicken shawarma prepared meals they have here...all you have to do is cook and serve! It is right next to the Ten Kate Markt on the Kinkerstraat....so some competition, but the market (generally) does not have raw meat sold in this capacity. A bit crowded at times...lines form down the street during these Covid-times...but I can't imagine how busy this place would be if there were no restrictions on capacity. It's all well-marked with what it is, prices, and weight. But I really couldn't believe the prices. Between three different packs of meat, a few fruit and vegetables from the market around the corner (http://www.yelp.com/biz/ten-katemarkt-amsterdam-2), was about 10 euro. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? Obviously I've been living my life wrong. But it's okay, because I have found the way. My tip: Go here and the market first, then go to the grocery store for what ever is left on your list. They have a variety of liver paste and they sell other peculiar items. I tried two types of salamis here, both had a unique and delicious smoked taste. One of the favorites here in the Netherlands is a salami that is slowly cooked by smoke at a specific temperature for one year or so. It has a raw appearance, however the meat is fully cooked by smoke and the process they are using. All sausages or salami are served with mustard the condiment of choice in the Netherlands.

The prices are okay, not low not high. The meat fresh and ample. After much research I've determined the difference in cuts of meat here in Holland. The beef is leaner and has less marbling. It makes me wonder if marbled meat is available here in Holland. I drove by De Pasteibakkerij and was surprised to see a 'butcher' in a quit street like this. The park my car a few streets away and walked to this place and was welcomed by the friendly people who own this place. 'What do you guys sell?', I asked and they showed me al their products. This place is about meat. They do all kinds of things but are mostly loved about their terrines (pates), of which their is lots of flavors and kinds to choose from. They also sell other kinds of meat, like French garlic sausages, boudin noir, boudin blanc, bacon and more. You go and see what they offer! There are also fresh eggs (35 cents an egg), wines, bread and more. Everything looks great and I really felt the love for their work in this place. You can only come on Friday or Saturday because the other days of the week the shop is closed and they are busy preparing orders for restaurants. Prices are not cheap but they are decent. This kind of good food is never cheap I think, and they are not more expensive than any other similar place. I will certainly be back to try more! So glad I found this place :) Amsterdam keeps surprising me everyday. In every street may be a new treasure spot hidden.

It was freaking awesome. I bought sausages, ham, terrines, rillet, and bread. They let me try some of the other terrine. The ham I still have to try tomorrow, but the rest was really top notch. If you want to make a nice meal on the weekend, or have fancy top quality rillets, or terrines I highly recommend this place. Forget about the anti-smoking fascist and his review. If these people are making food this good, they deserve to light up a cigarette in their own shop after hours. Get a grip people.

Also, seems they make some of the meats in-house like the ham, roast beef and pastrami. Broodje Gezond Kaas: This was a simple ham and cheese sandwich, yet so delicious. The ham tasted very fancy, so you can tell it is a specialty of theirs. And the bread was both chewy and crunchy. Rosbief Truffel de Luxe Broodje met Truffelmayo: Very fancy roast beef with that truffle mayo in the mix. Same great cheese pairing and crusty bread. The greens worked well on this sandwich to offset the richness. Spekkoek: Saw a few slices of this multi-layered Indonesian cake behind the counter. It was a bit different from other Lapis Legit that I've had before. It seemed the layers were thicker so there were fewer. Also, the spiced cake flavor was dominant and it didn't seem that buttery.
