We were told that we can take these cheeses to go, and that it would stay out of the refrigerator safely for 4 weeks. There were so many samples and each one was better than the next. They had nuts and wine as well. Fabulous gift idea! We purchased beautiful Dutch cheese knives, wine & round gift cheeses. There were wine nuts, mustards & spreads. We had an amazing trip out to the country in Amsterdam to visit this cheese shop... amazing to learn the process of making such delicious cheese we were able to sample at least 20 different types our favor where the smoked Gouda's and the pesto and truffle. We also tried a lavender cheese which was delicious. The shipping was so easy €15 to ship it back to the states so we really took advantage of this.... The mustard's and the jams are delicious as well. read more

You're going to see this exact same review 3x for all 3 shops as all 3 were equal in all areas. How much did we like it? Well enough to spend an additional 15min having our cheese swabbed in airport security. Yes, I took back an entire tote bag filled with a variety of cheeses (13 kinds) & yes, I took it as carry-on luggage. Yes, you CAN do that, though you may want to allow extra time for additional screening, as a bag full of cheese looks suspicious on the scanner. (Let them know ahead of time, so they flag it as odd contents and things go more smoothly) Tasting cheeses are readily available and you can taste literally EVERYTHING before you buy. Why then, with a bag filled with cheese do I give them 4 stars? Because it truly caters to tourists which resulted in higher pricing. Still, you buy KNOWING it can all fly back with you. read more

I have had tried 5 different cheeses when we were in Amsterdam and I was pleased by the taste, it is all I wanted so I purchased 4 to bring home into Canada. However, when my hubby and I tried the first 2 different kind it was not the same taste. It is still okay but if I know that the taste would be different from the samples I would not have bothered buying & bringing it home. And this was right smack in the middle of that beautiful oh so popular tulip shops! The shops on the canals. One can go from ceiling full of flowers and picking tulips to tasting cheese in no time. They have savory and sweet ones. And its right next door to a pot shop. I think that was strategic for smokers. Either that or they just know exactly what they want. Cheese, check! Henri Willig Kaas is one of my favorites. Free samples and great selection. I love the coconut and lavender cheeses. I tried to look for the coconut cheeses in other stores, but I couldn't find them. I find this place smaller than the other Henri Willig locations but it still provides the same cheese selections but maybe in less variety. Though there are still handful of samples to try and the staff are still helpful. This location seems more of an atmosphere for a cheese shop, many of the other retailers seem more trendy. But then again, it's Henri Willig cheese; there are many locations and this location has a little less pizzazz to it, so that's why I am keeping my description short. I'm a cheese person, and while this cheese isn't small batch special- it IS big batch special. For a huge producer like this, the quality is very high. I took home to sealed cannonballs of this stuff- one with seeds (mustard, I think) and one plain, and it was one of the best souvenirs ever. I wrapped it up in T shirts in my suitcase, and it traveled fine. We enjoyed tasting all the cheeses- go before lunch, you'll need to eat a lot less at the restaurant. They had flavors I've not tried before, and even if you don't like them, it's fun to experiment, and you really know what you're getting before you buy. read more

According to the sore attendant, you can bring cheese on the airplane back to the U.S. as long as it's vacuum sealed and made from pasteurized milk -- which is the case for nearly all the cheese in the shop. read more

What's not to love about a musuem dedicated entirely to cheese. Well, okay, it isn't actually a huge museum, it is just a single room with some photos on the wall, some cheese making equipment, and a guy that tells you how the cheese is made. In fact it is just a step to try to get you to go downstairs and buy some cheese. Mind you, I would have actually gone and bought the cheese if it wasn't for the fact that I live in Australia and don't want my cheese confiscated at quarantine. However, they do have cheese tasting in the shop as well so you can try before you buy, and I have to admit that the cheese is actually pretty nice. They also ship overseas and you can order online, so I'm going to give that ago when I get back home. read more

My friend and I were walking along, enjoying the canal, when an outdoor display of huge wheels of cheese caught my eye. I was drawn inside. We found that they offered a few too many samples, but you can't turn them down! There cheese is absolutely fantastic, and after trying seven different types, I purchased the goat cheese with herbs. I suggest stopping in to try the cheese and the stroopwafels. Yes, I had a slight issue getting it through security, but it made it back safely to the states. Theoretically this would have made a perfect gift, but I had a hard enough time sharing it... Cheese makes me happy! Landing in the land of Dutch cheese, which I must say takes the wheel over Irish cheese any day. I am known for walking around the great international city of Amsterdam, and randomly stopping when I see a BIG WHEEL of cheese in ANY window and having them cut me a piece of whatever seems good. Now that being said, when I went into Henri Willig's I was ISO cheese to bring home to the US as gifts, and low and behold I was in the perfect place. First and foremost, there are samples out of ALL their cheese that you can try and NOT have a sales person badgering you - Smiling my way to cheesy heaven!!! The staff was helpful and friendly (again, I've been to Amsterdam a few times and the Dutch here don't warm up to Americans very well, so finding locals who are friendly and helpful is a bonus!) The price is about 8 euros for one block. They have gift items available too, with smaller portions and different flavors of cheese. The cheese can be bought back to the US without any issues, as long as you keep it sealed. It will last.....and this is the kicker....for 3 months un-refrigerated. I think there still might be a wheel stowed in my luggage...I should double check, for cheese sake! :) read more

Yum! Stumbled upon this place while walking back from the Kalvertoren Shopping Center. Walked in with my companion (who is also a cheese lover) and were immediately excited by piles of free samples everywhere. It was a nice set up because these cheese wheels were pretty hefty and it would make sense to be allowed to try before buying. They had a special on cheeses - 6 in a cute little bag for €45 (vs. €8 each, save a little money). The cheese was SO delicious and they said you're allowed to bring it overseas and on the plane, as long as it's not unwrapped. We were told that because the cheese is sealed in wax, it will keep unrefrigerated for 3 months. Definitely recommend this as a place to pick up souvenirs for your family. I picked up a wedge of that and a small wheel of one-year old goat's milk to bring back home to NY. There's also free samples of everything they sell. My husband bought me some Henri Willig cheese during his business trip and I just had a few slices of their truffle cheese with crackers and it was delicious! My husband said the service was awesome and the samples were plentiful. He isn't much of a cheese lover, but he braved the tastings to buy me some awesome cheese. My husband and I were so pleased to stumble upon this Dutch cheese shop in Central Amsterdam. There are samples of every variety, and no pressure to buy. The 10-20 different varieties range in price from 5-12 euros for generous servings that are packaged to travel. The shopkeepers were very helpful and explained the cheese can be brought back to the US if unopened, and stays unrefrigerated for up to two months, and up to 6 months in the fridge. There were cheese samples for most of the displayed cheese on hand. I wish I could've taken home more, but only had so much space in my suit case. If you read my review on Chipsy King, then you'll know the "other" MUST DO in Amsterdam is to get your hands on some cheese. Not just any cheese, but specifically Polder Gold's sheep cheese. First of all I have to say, I am utterly shocked that of all things I loved about my trip to Amsterdam, walking away saying I had some of the best cheese in my life, was not a declaration I expected to make. I was fortunate enough to experience the glory of Dutch cheese tasting on my first day there when we strolled into Henry Willig. Just like any good market, there were arrays of tasting trays where you not only get to try some of the finest cheeses, but also get to revel in some of their delicious mustards. I was introduced to some amazing cheese and happily worked my way around the fairly large and diverse cheese shop. But what really spoke to me was the Polder Gold's sheep cheese which is a caliber in itself. It's hard like Spanish manchego cheese, but has a soft and buttery texture to it when it melts in your mouth. I shelled out a whopping €18.50 which is almost $25, an amount I've never put forth for cheese! However the price was totally worth it and it was a remarkable, if short lived keepsake I brought back to the States with me. I also bought Polder Gold's goat cheese from another shop. Both sheep and goat cheeses are superb. A big thanks to the Henry Willig shop for opening my eyes to the wonders of Dutch cheese! read more

Went back the next day bought multiple packs of cheese went through security and it was confiscated. They should look into if it is truly allowed because I just waisted 30 dollars.
