Up front, the quality of their products/meat is top notch, no question. However, to purchase it, be…read moreprepared for a long wait, crowds, and if something goes wrong, attitude. Ordered 2 Cote de Boeuf via their online portal, paid the EUR10 deposit and received an email confirmation showing total cost (EUR43.20), amount already paid (EUR10.00), amount due on pickup (EUR33.20). Set a time to pick up my order, and went in as scheduled. There is no accomodation if you've already ordered/paid, you simply wait in the crowd until they get to you. My order was ready, I paid, got my order and left. Looked at my receipt and realized that the amount charged in the store was higher than the amount quoted as due in the confirmation email. Full disclosure, it was slightly lower than total amount originally quoted, which I'm assuming meant the actual quantity of meat I received was slightly below what I'd ordered, so they adjusted accordingly, fair enough. But in total, I was still over charged by EUR7.00. Not a huge amount, an easy mistake, so I went back hoping to get a quick credit. Instead I was told that I was in the wrong, no one expects the butcher to charge exactly what was quoted, and I was dismissed, 'I'll look at it at home, do you still want your order?'. So I'll reiterate, good quality, crowded, long wait, unreliable online ordering, and attitude/indifference to any issues. Make your choice accordingly.

They have a variety of liver paste and they sell other peculiar items. I tried two types of salamis here, both had a unique and delicious smoked taste. One of the favorites here in the Netherlands is a salami that is slowly cooked by smoke at a specific temperature for one year or so. It has a raw appearance, however the meat is fully cooked by smoke and the process they are using. All sausages or salami are served with mustard the condiment of choice in the Netherlands.

A solid stop if you want a proper, structured cheese tasting while in Amsterdam. Located in a…read morehistoric canal house along the Singel, it's a nice alternative to the typical fast-paced cheese shops in Centrum. The guided tasting takes place downstairs in a small, classroom-style setting. You're given a score sheet, a small guillotine slicer, and a lineup of six cheeses--ranging from younger Wyngaard varieties to their heavily aged Reypenaer VSOP and XO Reserve (which has those nice, crunchy protein crystals). Each sample is paired with a wine or port and a bit of specialty mustard. The staff is knowledgeable and keeps things moving at a good pace, explaining how the natural aging process in their historic Woerden warehouse shapes the flavor. The shop upstairs carries all the cheeses from the tasting, along with slicers and accessories if you want to pick something up on your way out. It's an informative, well-organized hour that gives you a genuine appreciation for artisan Dutch cheese.
