A solid stop if you want a proper, structured cheese tasting while in Amsterdam. Located in a…read morehistoric canal house along the Singel, it's a nice alternative to the typical fast-paced cheese shops in Centrum. The guided tasting takes place downstairs in a small, classroom-style setting. You're given a score sheet, a small guillotine slicer, and a lineup of six cheeses--ranging from younger Wyngaard varieties to their heavily aged Reypenaer VSOP and XO Reserve (which has those nice, crunchy protein crystals). Each sample is paired with a wine or port and a bit of specialty mustard. The staff is knowledgeable and keeps things moving at a good pace, explaining how the natural aging process in their historic Woerden warehouse shapes the flavor. The shop upstairs carries all the cheeses from the tasting, along with slicers and accessories if you want to pick something up on your way out. It's an informative, well-organized hour that gives you a genuine appreciation for artisan Dutch cheese.

Explore everything here! We came to Dutch Delicacy on pure accident, as we were walking around and saw that they had a ton of different goudas for sale. In the front part of the store is a take-out counter where they sell hot items, like sandwiches and baked pastries and desserts, like cheesecakes and cookies the size of your face! It all looked appealing and would've totally purchased a food item, had we not had lunch beforehand. Throughout the store were the cheese samples of the many different various kinds. It goes beyond what you thought gouda could be. There are sheep's and goat's cheeses for many of the different types. There are pesto cheeses that come in different colors like a bright blue and pink. There are cheeses that pair well with the dips that had me thinking about my next dinner party. There's Dutch chocolate here for sale. There's different knives for cutting cheese. There's truly everything here you could imagine for your gouda-filled meal. Staff was super friendly and asked if we needed any help or wanted to know more about any of the different cheeses. For sale, a lot of the goudas are pre-packaged for a pound and meets airline security measures for taking it home with you. I'm glad we stumbled upon Dutch Delicacy. We were able to try so many different cheeses, which I found a few for home. I recommend for anyone visiting Amsterdam to make a stop here; there's a lot of items you'll want to take home with you.

But then they broke out the "wine pearls" (basically popping boba filled with wine) to put on top of the cheese curls. Their tasting setup feels like a trap because they let you sample all these incredible cheeses until you're completely addicted, and next thing you know you're considering mortgaging your house just to buy as much as you can physically carry. They have a great selection ranging from young to aged Goudas, plus a neat little educational display showing traditional Dutch cheese making. If you're in Amsterdam, do not skip the Henri Willig Cheese Farm Store on Haringpakkerssteeg. Just be prepared to leave with a much lighter wallet and a heavy bag of cheese.

However, some of the more interesting flavors here were coconut, asparagus, lavender, beer, and smoked goat cheese. The cheeses surprisingly did taste like their labeled flavors...in a non-weird way too. Many people buy their gift sets. The unique flavors do make great gifts. Just be sure to buy the hard cheeses to carry on for long-haul flights as the soft cheeses would spoil quickly over time.
