The veggies are always fresh and tasty, and as others have mentioned, the quality is outstanding. We are a family of two, and we get the small farm box every week. The size of the box is just a little over what we would normally buy in veggies, but we have eaten it all every week, so it's encouraging us to eat more healthy too! It's usually 5 or 6 veggies that we know and love, and one or two things that are new and take some Googling for recipes. That gives a little adventure to the week, which I like. They also let you customize the box, so if there's ever anything you REALLY won't eat, you can cut it. Their online store has a good variety of other in-season veggies, plus cheeses, yogurt, bread, etc. This delivery has really revitalized our cooking, so we're excited to try out new things again. read more

Sometimes I will get items that I would never purchase in the stores, but I look up recipes and find something interesting to make and voila! I plan my menus each week based on what is being sent and I love the fact that you can order more of something or less of something several days before. Very efficient and time-saving. I have received several other CSA's, including another in the DC area, and nothing even comes close to the level of quality & service that From the Farmer offers. Even when I think there is an issue - like the multigrain loaf being TOO big (like 30 slices!), they solve it by offering a half loaf at a lower price! They read my mind. We also receive the dozen eggs and occasional meat & are never disappointed. One week they dropped off extra coffee for us after they apparently had some leftover! And there is no price to put on not having to pick it up! They deliver to your door, it's there when you wake up! We are enjoying From the Farmer deliveries all year round. The food is incredibly fresh and flavorful, the variety of products is fantastic and the customer service and support is very responsive. We especially love the greens, but in truth we have not had a bad product yet. If something arrives a little past its prime, it is either replaced or refunded. Like others, I preferred having the option to mix and match by weekly basket more easily (per the old website), without having to start all over and create a new basket, find the items you liked in the original, replace the ones you cannot use that week, etc. read more

We started this service several months ago as a couple and have thoroughly enjoyed it. We do the organic delivery and it's a perfect amount of food for 2 people if you cook about 3 times a week. The fruits and veggies are beautiful, colorful, and more flavorful than what they have at Trader Joe's or other local supermarkets. I like how the service introduced us to new types of fruits and veggies and has encouraged us to cook more. It's truthfully changed our lifestyles a bit for the better. We're probably eating healthier, improving our cooking skills, and saving some extra cash-money. While sometimes I wish there was more variation, I understand that the produce, especially organic produce, is locally sourced and limited by the seasons. What's good is that if you do get tired of something, they let you swap your items in and out with other items featured that week. One time we got really lucky and they snuck in 6 fresh eggs. That was like the jackpot! Made our week! I've never had eggs so rich before. I used some of those eggs with some lemons we got that week for a pistachio cake and it was a major hit at work. I've tried a few CSAs and am a big fan of this one. The website it pretty easily to navigate and it's great that you can swap out things you don't like for things you'd rather have more of. I once got a veggie that rotten quickly and they quickly responded and gave me money back - which is nice service! I also like that it comes to me early in the am. It's a bit on the pricey side for the number and type of veggies you get, but overall I'd suggest giving it a try. read more

I've been receiving a bag of organic produce and other items weekly From the Farmer for more than a year and give it my highest recommendation. The produce is always fresh and delivered at the crack of dawn so I never have to worry about not getting in the refrigerator before leaving the house. I plan my meals around what is fresh locally each week and have even tried some vegetables that were new to me. Dandelion greens, Tatsoi, and Pink Lemons to name a few of the delicious items FTF introduced to me and all were delicious. It is easy to customize my order and skip a delivery when I'm out of town. Only once did I ever receive anything that I thought was less than perfect but before I could even contact customer service they reached out to me saying that one of their people had brought it to their attention. Wow, now that is customer service! This and every experience has been top notch. I have used this service for a few years now and they deliver fantastic produce throughout the year- just got an amazing bag at the end of December. I even moved across the street from a grocery store and can't give it up. There are occasional issues with the produce but their friendly customer service has never failed to make it right. I'm unable to get to the farmer's market each week due to my schedule, so this is the perfect alternative. I got my first delivery of a single bushel today, and I was less than impressed. I feel like I got 20$ worth of food, 10$ worth of convenience and just the rest was "green bragging rights" to tell my friends I'm part of a CSA. The quality is nice, but I can get the same at my local farmers market for 1/3rd the price. The convenience is wonderful. The basket was delivered over night, it's really nice, and all the food was beautiful and tasty. The price, not so much. I think this is a great idea for people who can afford it, but if you are on a budget and you want local and fresh, the farmers market are better. read more

Been getting weekly deliveries with my boyfriend since May and love it! The quality of the produce is amazing. We really enjoy getting a variety of food and planning the week's meals about what we're getting in our basket -- it's a good way to keep from getting in a cooking rut. That said, we both like to cook a lot. If you don't like to cook, it may not be worth it because you may end up wasting food. Our baskets have always arrived when they are scheduled, and interactions with customer service have always been pleasant. It's easy to suspend baskets for a week or to customize your order if there's something you know you don't like. Would recommend giving it a shot if you're considering it! read more

We've been weekly subscribers for over a year, and we are still excited to open our door Wednesday morning to pick up our red bag full of yummy fruits and vegetables. We are a family of five and get the large seasonal box every week. It's a great mix of "interesting new things to try" (green tomatillos, artichokes) plus staples that are just fresher than anything I normally buy at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's (spinach, corn, rainbow carrots, sweet potatoes). Farmer Moskowitz how i love thee! I've been a customer for about six months and the customer service, produce, and delivery has been second to none. We've tried other farm shares in that past that might have given us more vegetables but the delivery aspect of FTF makes the whole experience so much more desirable! No more missed deliveries and wasting precious time running to some randos house to pick up a sack of warm vegetables three months out of the year. Instead, FTF work like elves delivering groceries to your door in the middle of the night and you wake up with a lovely text message saying that the food is outside your door and packaged perfectly with coolers for meats. I love the vegetables and fruit that I've gotten and the website allows for customization so you can opt out of certain items if you don't like them and request more of the things that you do like. They also have an assortment of local baked goods, meats, and pantry items (fish pepper hot sauce from Woodberry Kitchen anyone?). Sometimes the pictures don't match the description, but they are generally very good at refunding you the money if you are not satisfied. I find the small farm share and a fruit share is the perfect amount of produce for my husband and I on most weeks and we juice any leftovers fruits to make a delicious morning beverage. The vegetables are high quality, cleaned, and packaged to perfection. The brioche hot dogs from Lyon Bakery and cheese bagels from Bull Frog are a weekly must-have for us. Of the meats, I will say that they are small but high quality (in particular, the chicken thighs, Italian sausage, and short ribs). My husband and I have accepted that this is the "real price" for food if you want quality items and decent wages to the farmers. Give them a try- I promise you will be hooked. read more

Their weekly delivery means I have a really good assortment of local produce on a consistent basis. I just wasn't that regular in going to the farmer's market. I've been using From the Farmer on and off since last April. They make it very easy to cancel each week, so you can easily stop the deliveries if you're going out of town, don't like what they're delivering that week, or already have enough produce. You can also customize, so if you don't want the lettuce that week, you can get no lettuce but double the amount of something else. FTF has done a great job mixing in some non-local items during the winter, to make sure our boxes are more interesting than just potatoes, squash, and apples all winter. I really appreciate that they've been offering citrus like grapefruits, oranges and some avocados, but they let you know where they're coming from. I wanted to write a review at this point given my recent experience with their customer service. They may have the BEST customer service I've ever experienced. I had changed my week to request two of the squash they were offering that week, but when I got my box that morning I was disappointed to see there was no squash, but two of some weird looking vegetable I'd never seen before. Turned out to be celeriac, and while they included a recipe for how to use it, I was disappointed that I didn't get a choice about getting double of this and didn't get a warning. So I decided to write an email letting them know just that I wished their had been a warning so I could have changed my order, and also noted that a few of my apples that week seemed to be bruised, and I threw in a question about my beets that week and why they didn't come with the beet greens. Their customer service responded almost immediately, and apologized about not giving me an advance warning that they ran out of something. They explained their system and how sending out an advance warning would be difficult, but they're going to look into how to fix that. They also apologized about the apples, and explained that beet greens shouldn't be attached to local beets during the winter, because the beets have been in storage, and the greens won't store. In addition to their apologies/explanations, they offered to add more apples and any winter squash they had available. I didn't get a delivery for almost a month bc of travel plans, but when I got my most recent delivery, they had not only remembered to put in extra apples, three extra squash, but they also included some homemade granola and a note apologizing for my recent issues. I was so surprised and impressed that they not only remembered my original e-mail, but they followed up three weeks later! They went over and beyond what I expected in terms of compensating for my minor complaints, that it made me an even bigger fan of their company and I recommend it to everyone! read more

Was a customer for a awhile, then stopped for a bit, but back again. Seems like they improved their website and customization features, so all good! The quality of produce is wonderful. Better than Whole Foods. I've tried several farm delivery services in the DMV area and this has been hands down my favorite. There are no membership fees, delivery on your given day is free, you can pause or edit your order (even edit items within subscription box if you get one) with ease. I particularly think the veggie/fruit boxes (they have regular, local-sourced, or all organic choices) and butcher subscriptions are amazingly affordable. I also recommend the egg add-on and the weekly artisan bread boule. And all of the additional grocery items are reasonably priced. My only wish is that they carried more diary items (they have limited cheese options and no milk, but do offer yogurt, keifer, and cream cheeses) so we could give them all our grocery money. read more

Today was our 2nd delivery. First was right before thanksgiving so it was fun to include some things on the menu that I wouldn't have. Found out about FTF at the Emporiyum and after signing up was offered a free week so that was a great surprise and a great way to begin. The first week I ordered a double bushel since I was cooking for family. IT WAS SO MUCH BEAUTIFUL PRODUCE! I was slightly overwhelmed. The fun part about it is getting things I have seen at farmers markets or in whole foods but never thought of buying. Dino kale, rainbow carrots, celery root and acorn squash being some of those things. I love cooking but I tend to do a lot of the same things over and over. So thanks to FTF I'm getting out of a rut and enjoying amazing local produce without worrying about where I need to go and get it. This week included grapefruit and the story behind why is super thoughtful! I'm glad they care enough to explain why they do things. That means more. It's just me and a roommate and it seems a half bushel is enough for us week to week so I'm thinking I'll stick with that weekly or every other week throughout the winter instead of having to source these things myself. read more

UPDATE: Though it took some time to get a hold of someone, once I did, the company was extremely apologetic and accommodating. They went out of their way to special deliver a basket of produce, on them, immediately afterwards. The produce received all looked terrific, and was a good amount (for the 1/2 bushel, got two HUGE turnips, 3-4 great big carrots, a beautiful head of lettuce, gorgeous heirloom tomatoes (about 4-5 BIG ones), and a group of nice spring onions, as well as a container of very fresh strawberries.). I have to say, they really impressed with their handling of this issue, enough that I would be willing to give them another try. It may not have started out right, but this company made sure that this FINISHED right. Thanks FTF, it's appreciated! AWFUL. I ordered for the first time from them this past week. Expecting delivery between midnight and 7am on Tuesday. Except I waited until 7am on Tuesday before leaving for work. No basket. No email to say anything different was happening. NOTHING. Then at noon, five hours AFTER the basket was to have been delivered, we get an email saying because of the holiday, it would come on Wednesday this week. Thanks for the "advance" notice--NOT! Was late to work, but was excited for veggies on Wednesday. I get an email indicating my order has been delivered (at 6:49am, after I had to leave for work so as not to be late twice in one week). I expect to come home to an insulated basket outside my door. Except nothing. No basket outside my door. Fail. I try my concierge, to see if they had left with the front desk for some reason. Not there either. I've tried to get a response from the company, but cannot get anyone to respond. I've tried to cancel my future subscriptions, but of course you cannot do this on the web. Horrible experience. Would 110% NOT recommend to anyone. Buy from the store, or a farmer's market directly. This might be a good idea, but clearly FAR from working as it currently is set up.
