Friendly service from Mark and easy to just pull your car up and load some firewood. They have mixed hardwoods and you can get all oak if you ask and see what they got. Reasonable prices and no need for delivery. $20/shopping cart or $75 per bin (I guesstimate = ~ 4-5 shopping carts) is what they charge with $150 for a 1/4 face cord. If you want it delivered it's +$50 and they will stack for additional fee. The firewood has been burning great and I've popped in 2x this fall. I wanted something really cool for review #200. Lone Cedar is, I believe, the last working farm inside the Beltway! They have a well worn market store, although they are best known for firewood and mulch. It's really nice to select from extremely fresh produce, including heirloom apple varieties, truly ripe tomatoes, and this time of year, pumpkins. In season, they also sell flowers and plants from their greenhouses. An old tradition lives on! read more

Service is not great and the firewood we bought does not seem to be aged, as the website claims. We hauled a half cord home and stacked it, ready for winter. Made the first fire and the wood barely burns. It was much less expensive than other places I checked...but now I know why. Argh. read more

Ordered firewood. A bit of a challenge to get ahold of them. A few days before my call was returned. Set up delivery for Saturday morning. Had to call at noon to be told they were coming in afternoon instead. While I requested and paid for a cord, what I got was a fair bit short. Wood wasn't all the same length so hard to be precise, but only filled one-cord rack about 75%, though add a bit for some longer pieces. Not fully seasoned but buying for next year, and mostly nice oak. Price would be good if a full, seasoned cord. read more

This place is nestled in a corner on Adelphi & Metzerott Roads ... it's very easy to miss, but is worth a trip to check out. I stopped in here because I heard they had a great deal on mini pumpkins and I needed a LOT. I was very pleased to have gotten what I feel was a great deal on them. I had to have purchased almost 30, and I barely made a dent in their inventory. The pumpkins were all in good condition and the price was very reasonable. What I didn't know was that they actually have a a selection of other produce. It's actually a small store setup, so there are refrigeration units to keep the food from spoiling. Some of the prices were good, others were a bit high for my preference. I like to support local businesses, so I try to drop in every few months. read more

I tried calling ahead about firewood but no one answered and the mailbox was full so I just decided to drive over there. I was looking for oak firewood for my smoker and at first they told me all their firewood was mixed hardwood, but I pushed a little more and he was kind enough to call up to his colleague at the wood piles and ask if he could help me gather just oak. So I drove up there and not only was he able to fill my trunk full of good oak but he directed me to the chunk size pieces perfect for my offset smoker so I don't have to cut them down myself. It's definitely an unconventional place but I'll definitely be back when I need more cooking wood. read more

I asked for ready to use firewood and website claims all wood is seasoned before being made available. Drove out there Saturday afternoon, started talking to the son, when Mom walks up, overhears me say that I called 3 times and she starts ranting "We are backed up for the holiday!" I've had lone cedar deliver wood to my house for about 15 years. I had a half cord delivered for $150. Unstacked.on Nov24,2012. I called left a message which was returned in five min and the wood delivered in One hour. I've had communication mix ups in the past but lone cedar delivered the wood and hoped that I would pay them eventually. Repeatedly they have trusted me. These guys (father and son )are great! Leave your address and where you want the wood dumped or stacked, the rest is easily worked out. Bought wood yesterday for this brutal cold, live close to them in Adelphi, so I decided to give it a shot. The purchased split is not nearly dry enough to burn. Simply hasn't been dried long enough prior to purchase. Should have realized this when they said there was a high demand. In retrospect, should have purchased the wood in spring to give it time to dry properly. read more

(This all happened summer 2011) I have been searching for a firewood deliverer for SE D.C. for a while now. Finally I found Lone Cedar Farm on the net. I called their number several times and left messages but no response. So I went to the farm. The young lady at the cash register had to phone her boss to see if they deliver to SE -- she told me they do not. A couple weeks later I thought I would get a rental truck, load up the wood myself, and be done with it. So I called to make sure they still had wood available. No answer after several calls and messages. So I went to the farm yet again. An elderly lady said it was not a problem and said that they charged $100 per half-cord (there are many cords on display on their property, so I could see they were using true cord measurements). What a deal! As I planned to get a truck, "David" called me and left a message, saying that a full cord would be $200 and delivery (dumping only, no stacking) to SE D.C. would be $50. I was a bit miffed that he called so late but glad to hear they would deliver. I called back -- no answer. I left a message in which I told him I wanted a full cord, would gladly pay the delivery charge, and gave him my address also; he could delivery anytime he wanted and dump the wood in the driveway and I would take it from there. The only thing I needed to know was how to pay him but I offered him a credit card, a check, and cash. And I left my phone number in the message. Guess what -- he called back and left me another message as if I had never left all that information! I called back and left another message. We played phone tag like this for a while, maybe a couple weeks. It always seemed in his messages that he didn't get my information, which leads me to believe he didn't actually check his voicemail. (Sigh!) Finally I just gave up. Now I have no firewood and don't have the time to rent a truck and get it myself. (I am a teacher and now summer is over.) So, for me, it's back to trying to find some other firewood deliverer. Too bad, Lone Cedar -- you had good wood and a good price but you're inept at communication! read more

In reply to the craze 2011 phone tag guy, Justin, just sayin', these people are kind of old and also speak some sort of foreign language. I was there just this past Sunday, April 28, 2013, and they are still there. The "Old Lady" is very, very sweet, but we did have to repeat a lot to her. But their prices on not only wood, but also on vegetables and flowers for the garden, organic potting soil, mulch, and of course firewood, are so low its worth the communication problems. I would say to get a truck and go get your wood next time. I spend about 30.00 for plants and soil for my garden compared to almost twice that for similar purchase at another store. I'm heading back out there today for more soil. Came across this Yelp site while trying to find directions there, because someone else drove the other day. I hope they are there for years to come. read more

Since this Yelp page doesn't show their hours of operations, I called and listened to their voicemail. It was this past Saturday. Their message said that they are open from 9-6 on Saturdays. So, around 4:45 we left our house to drive up there from NE DC. We got there around 5:25 to find it already closed with a sign that said they close at 5 on Saturdays. Well, that would have been nice to know BEFORE driving over an hour round-trip. They have lost my business--however, there's a chance to gain it back. I left a message today asking if they'd waive the delivery charge. We'll see if they call back. read more

If, like me, you've been searching for somewhere to get high quality firewood in the Washington metro area without spending a fortune then this is the place. Yes, communication may be eratic (although they got back to me pretty), but they will either deliver wood for a $50 flat rate fee or allow you to come and load up a pickup truck. I opted for the latter option, and drove out a Zipcar pickup and loaded it myself in about 15 minutes. The place in just beyond the DC boundary, and they have plenty of volume options. A full cord is $200 and a half cord is $100, but I actually opted for something a bit less than this (at $75) which amply filled up my pickup and is likely to last us at least one winter. The wood is very good quality mixed hardwood and they also sell mulch. The place seems to be a farm stand in the summer, but in the winter is pretty much just about wood/mulch. I've bought firewood from Lone Cedar farm for the last couple of years. I have somewhat unusual requirements for my wood--I use it for a back-yard pizza oven, and so I need wood that isn't too thick, and is very dry (wet wood means a late dinner). Lone Cedar was both accommodating and reliable on the wood sizing, and the quality of the wood is awesome. Reasonably dry for air-seasoned wood, and varieties that burn long and hot. Whatever species it is, I find myself using 30-50% less wood to get my oven up to cooking temperatures, compared to logs I've gotten from other sources. Delivery is prompt, and because they're inside the Beltway, delivery to DC is cheap compared to sources way out in Maryland or Virginia. Their stacking charge is reasonable too--just $30, where others charge more than the cost of the wood. Excellent all around--I'll be getting my wood from them for some time to come. read more
