My family has tried various online "fresh food" companies, pre-made meal, you name it and they were just ok... usually the food did not last and was mediocre at best. We love our local famers market but even with our good intentions, we rarely made it on time. When my hubs stumbled upon FTF I was skeptical but really liked the idea of delivery, subscriptions and ala cart options and loved supporting our local farmers and businesses so we gave it a try. Here we are two yrs later and we still LOVE it! The fruits and veggies are so fresh that they typically arrive still covered in soil... this is actually our families favorite part! After about 6 months of receiving the subscriptions, we started ordering ala cart items and for the last year or so we've been getting about 75% of our weekly food from FTF. The meats, bakery, dairy and pantry items are all great! FTF is also not like a CSA where you tend to get the same items week after week. They have variety and this makes it fun for the whole family. We've received items that either we would never have chosen or had never eaten and we love it. If you are a meal planner than FTF is a wonderful option bc you get an email of the items that will come the following week and you have plenty of time to plan accordingly. The recipes and storage tips they provide are a great touch too. If you are traveling then it's super easy to suspend the service for as long as needed. Now, are they perfect, no however they do a darn good job fixing mistakes and are quick to respond to any questions or concerns. Sometimes there are missing or unavailable items and we will either receive a credit for or will get a little extra of another item. Personally, we would rather get that credit or extra item then a subpar product that would end up in the trash. There is a lot of talk in the reviews about the surprise email halting delivery to re-vamp and let me tell you, we were SAD... so sad but they worked hard to get back online and we were super excited to receive an email a week later announcing they were back up and running. Dealing with the logistics of fresh foods and delivery to the (very large) Balt-Wash area can not be easy, fresh food is very temperamental. The best part of it all... our 5yo son gets super excited to see the "red bags" on our front porch every week and he's learning about fresh foods and how important it is to support our local farmers. Then, the next 10 weekends are just to hard to get out of bed and down there in time?? Yes? Well then just have From the Farmer deliver those groceries to your door? You heard me....YOUR DOOR!! You just wake up on a Friday morning and there is this cool basket stuffed with produce picked at a local farm....maybe even some cheese in there made locally! Small batch jam is your thing.....I GOT THAT IN MY BASKET TOOOOO, along with fresh baked bread, one week I got pasta sauce!!!!!! If all my capital letters and exclamation marks weren't enough to convince you to give this product a try, let's just say that I've heard horror stories of other "organic" or local-based CSA deliveries. I don't have time or money for shriveled and half rotten fruits and veggies! I also want to help support my local economy and keep my carbon foot-print as low as possible (heaven knows I waste enough glass products on my mimosa weekend brunches....and hence can't make it to the Farmers Market.....do you see the cyclic scenario here?)! Professional and reliable, great products, helpful website and Facebook page! This product is legit! Give local a try. Small basket options for people who don't need to much run about $45 a week, and a larger basket to feed the whole family are about $70. Stay seasonal, eat local, be happy, be healthy! I can't count on how many fingers and toes I've had the pizza at different farmer's markets! While the lines can get long 12:30pm, you only have to wait for 15 minutes. Taco Dirty To Me: Crispy battered cauliflower tempura tacos, bursting with flavor! Bun'd' Up - Delicious fried tofu and mushroom in squishy soft bao buns topped with microgreens, scallions, and a nice creamy aioli sauce. Light and tasty! Urban+ade - Refreshing lemonade with less sugar than classic lemonade. The Sage & Tarragon is my favorite! Veg Heaven - Decadent sweet treats, the dark chocolate cookies and brownies are the best! While the cakes are moist, they aren't as tasty. Taco Loco - Giant burritos are amazing! There's a swarm of people waiting in line, so be prepared to wait 10-15 min before ordering and then another 5 min for your order! The mango and watermelon juice are refreshing. Hipp Sippin' - Cold-pressed juices and acai bowls made to order. Ravenhook Bakery - Great selection of freshly baked loaves of bread and baked goods. DMV Empanadas - They sell out fast! And within minutes, I had a response from my initial point of contact and the customer care associate. 4p foods has been such a bright spot during a time in our country where systemic racism continues to impact many Black people and other marginalized communities. Participating in a sustainable food source and cooking a plant-based diet are ways that I am resisting the impact of capitalism on black bodies. I had to use my navigation system because that is exactly what I would have done HAHA! There is so much to look at ranging from the variety of seasonal plants, herbs, flowers, and etc.! They also have gardening equipment, soil, and produce in their buildings that they have. Personally, I was more surprised to see that they had duck eggs, yogurt, and different cheeses. I have not come across these items at a produce stand before, so do not judge me (I definitely plan to purchase the duck eggs at some point in time). In addition to all their fresh items and produce, they also had interesting items such as their syrups (i.e., peaches and cream, maple, cinnamon roll (I could be wrong about that one) that can be used for a variety of food items such as pancakes, in yogurt, and waffles. Other items such as bacon ketchup, applesauces, butters, jellies, salsas, and more lined the walls of the store. I took a particular interest in their wildflower honey which is produced locally. The sign says to use it daily to help build your immune system against seasonal allergies. Honey, I I have allergies all year round, so you know I bought that (pun intended ). I am already on day two and I recognize a decrease in my allergy symptoms already! I also bought a rosemary plant that I will be using for other creations. The total price for the honey and rosemary plan came to about $25 and some change. Considering what I am using these items for, it was worth it. With the service being great and the products being of great quality, I will be returning for sure! P.S. - There are also have some awesome animals that you might hear during your time there! When I arrived, the first two people I encountered provided positive customer service, including taking me to the location where the locally-sourced honey is situated in the store (not just pointing to the general area). I really appreciated that. The other thing I found helpful was that when a team member didn't have an answer to my question, they were willing to defer to a team member who had more knowledge about what I was looking for. This is where Veronica or Victoria (I'm not quite sure of her name, other than the fact that it begin with a V) comes into frame. She provided really good and useful information in addition to asking really good questions. She also seemed to be sympathetic to the fact that I was not feeling well and was looking for something to help in the healing process. We need more of this in the world. Care and concern for humankind seems to be lacking here lately. If you are looking for locally-sourced honey and you live or work in VA, don't hesitate to stop by Nalls Produce! Happy shopping! Oops! One more note ; I'm not too sure Nalls is located in Alexandria as it states when you visit the website. After completing a pretty long day at work in Arlington, I didn't think a drive out to Alexandria (after primary rush time), would be so bad. But, the drive was a little further than expected. Because I'm not a Virginia native, I could be incorrect in my thought process. But Nalls Produce is not located in Alexandria, it is located in Franconia. That's not even Alexandria County...it's actually Fairfax County. Either way, it was worth the drive because I was able to find what I was looking for. However, had I known the drive would take it as long as it did, I would've probably done it on an early Saturday morning and spent a little more time to explore all of the other interesting items I saw.
