When compared to other CSAs I find the flexibility of ordering the quantities reasonable, and just great service all round.

Messick's Farm Market - my partner judging my custard choices

There are places you go because you need something, and there are places you go because life is…read morejust better when you do. Messick's falls into that second category. You start out thinking it's just a farm market but inside, the place has all the usual farm market suspects--fresh produce, baked goods, meats--but then you notice the food counter. That's where things go sideways in the best possible way. The sandwiches are flat-out good, not "good for a farm store," but actually good. And the breakfast burritos are not normal human-sized food. They're the kind of burritos that make you reconsider your life choices halfway through eating one, in a positive way. Outside is where Messick's really shows off. Kids running everywhere, farm people doing what farm people do, and enough seasonal activities to keep families occupied until everyone forgets what time it is. It's the kind of place where parents sit down "for just a minute" and then suddenly it's an hour later and nobody is in a hurry to leave. If you're rolling in with a camper, it also works as a Harvest Hosts stop, which is a polite way of saying you can legally fall asleep there without anyone bothering you. Parking is easy in a grass-and-gravel area that's simple to level into, and once the day crowd clears out it gets quiet in that good country way. Verizon signal holds up well too, which is either a blessing or a curse depending on how hard you were trying to escape emails. What makes Messick's dangerous is that it's not trying to be anything other than what it is--but it ends up being more anyway. You go for a quick stop and leave feeling like you accidentally spent the afternoon at somebody's family reunion, except nobody made you help clean up afterward. In a world full of overcomplicated stops and underwhelming food, Messick's is refreshingly simple: good food, good people, and just enough chaos to make it interesting.

It's 15 dollars to get in and there is so much for the kids to do. Even my teenagers had fun just picking berries and going in the maze. The people working there were so freaking sweet I just am in love. They had a "limited menu" of food but it ranged from chicken salad sandwiches to mozzarella sticks or a hot dog, fries were super crispy and fresh, and it was more than enough to eat and enjoy the scenery. You could pick your own flowers, pick berries, zip line, petting zoo, it was just awesome . So fun.

Dog friendly farm. Love that I got to bring my dog along for the fun! In addition to apples, they had dig your own potatoes and a variety of salad greens, pumpkins and gourds available to pick. Since we went toward the end of the season, we were able to cut sunflowers for free. Apple cider donuts, bakery, and lunch items available on weekends only. Jarred items available for purchase at the stand. I got some baby dill pickles, which are delicious! I recommend you check their website (https://hollinfarms.com/current-available/) here before you go. They update it weekly with their current crop availability, weather changes, etc.

There were variety of apples available the day we went. The options depend on timing and the growing season. We got to try Arkansas Black, which are delicious. Because we went toward the end of the season, we were able to cut sunflowers for free with our apple purchase. Expect hills and uneven surfaces for walking, so wear appropriate footwear so you can enjoy the experience. Views are beautiful, the colors were popping across the horizon. After you fill up your picking bag, don't skip o out on the apple cider donuts. Made on site daily with cider from the orchard...while not warm, they were fresh and delicious. The food stand had a variety of other snacks and jarred foods available for purchase. * Our GPS got us close to the farm and handmade signs guide you the rest of the way. * Staff are nice and helpful, they provide you with everything you need (instructions, picking bags, shears). * There are porta potties available, they were as clean as you can expect porta potties to be. * No fee for admission or parking (yay!), just pay for what you pick and eat. *

Green Truck Farm did not disappoint! We were greeted by rows and rows of black raspberries, which I had never experienced before, but taste like a more flavor-packed version of raspberries. After we had our fill of black raspberries, we walked over to the blueberries and picked our hearts out. Advice: -Black raspberries tend to sell out first so start there if you're planning to pick at both places. -Subscribe to Green Truck Farm on Facebook for the latest updates about ripeness. -Visit their cousins down the road at Hartland Orchard for other fruit (cherries, peaches, apples).

We went the last week of May and there were still hundreds of strawberries to pick from! When you first enter the orchard/farm they give you a box that contains 6 of the strawberry holders. When we went in May 2021, they were around $4.99/lb. You have rows and rows of strawberries to pick from that are spread out nicely enough that it was easy to avoid people who didn't wear masks. The process was easy and the strawberries were delicious! My family and I demolished 6 boxes in less than a week.
