We had an incredible experience at this pet friendly restaurant! Not only that, but our Frenchie whose name is Bubbles got to meet a server also nicknamed Bubbles. Picture attached. We had the corn beef and hash. It had amazing flavor with huge chunks of corn beef. It was absolutely delicious. We also had a bowl of their chili brisket. Fantastic flavor, and lots of chunky brisket. I did have them heat it up prior to being delivery. I like all my liquid meals, extra hot. Just a personal preference. It was still delivered lukewarm. If there was one thing I would say, because this place was incredible from the servers to the food and to the fact that they allow pets. It would be to the young lady that cleaned and straightened tables and her RBF. You're working at an incredible restaurant, with incredible food, in an incredible town. SMILE!! Enjoy your surroundings and all the people around you. Life is short and a smile won't hurt you. AND it will bring smiles to all of the people around you. You're beautiful.
We stuffed ourselves here but loved every bit of it. My husband ordered biscuits and gravy, with eggs and potatoes and a side of chili! I ordered eggs, potatoes and potatoes and we shared the churros/ cinnamon pancake! We still talk about that pancake- it was just right on the cinnamon and sugar. Service was super friendly and attentive. We did arrive right when they opened, good thing because quickly this place had a wait list! Plan accordingly and enjoy your service and meal!
Very big portion. Good brunch spot and very popular on a weekend. Tasty but would be nice if the house potatoes were crispier. Corned beef hash had a good amount of corned beef but a bit dry.
Best pancakes I've ever had! We stopped in Carmel during a recent Highway 1 trip and stumbled upon this gem while looking for a brunch spot. My husband and I shared the Triple D Sampler and banana walnut pancakes, along with a latte. Everything was delicious, and there was so much food! The chili was especially flavorful, with tender brisket, and the pancakes were incredible. We sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather. There was a short wait, but my kids had fun browsing the shop while we waited, and they even found a few reasonably priced activity items for the road. Great food, friendly atmosphere, and definitely a must-visit when in the area!
Really tasty breakfast spot in Carmel that definitely gets busy, so expect a wait during peak times. The food was worth it though, and everything tasted fresh and homemade like the name suggests. Loved the little store attached to the restaurant too. It was fun to browse after eating. The surrounding shopping area is also really nice to walk around and explore. A highlight for my daughter was the Mickey Mouse pancake! Overall a solid stop if you're visiting Carmel and looking for a good breakfast or brunch spot.
Wow, what a delicious and fun breakfast spot! We came in on a Thursday around 11:30 am and were able to be immediately seated. It was quite busy outside, but we found a nice spot in the shade. Once we started to order, a lot of the people started to leave and there was only a couple other parties outside. For once I was hungry AND actually able to order while thinking about portion sizes. Normally my eyes are more hungry than my stomach! I had one banana walnut pancake and still couldn't finish it. My partner ordered the breakfast skillet with chorizo, mushrooms, and avocado. Both were exceptionally delicious, and the skillet especially with their homemade bottled pepper sauce. It's available to purchase but they ran out when we were visiting. The pancake had bananas or walnuts in every bite, if not both. The maple syrup was also heated up so it made for a very pleasant experience. I'm normally a savory breakfast gal, but this called to me, and I'm so glad I went with it. And the skillet wasn't that spicy but packed tons of flavor. I could taste some smoke paprika, garlic powder, and a pleasant amount of salt and pepper. We enjoyed our time here, and since the business was slowing down, we were able to chat with our waiter and get some ideas for local spots to try. 10/10, we will be back again! :) Thank you so much!
On a recent trip to the Bay Area we had a chance to swing by the Monterey Peninsula on the way south and visit with a dear friend. This "young lady" and I have been great pals since 4th grade, and that was quite a while ago. Ahem! She's lived in Carmel since the early 80's and knows so many great places to go. She recommended From Scratch as a good spot to meet for breakfast. On a foggy morning, we parked on the exterior of The Barnyard and took a meandering path to find the restaurant. I had actually dined in that space many, many years ago. I don't even recall what it was called at that time. The From Scratch iteration is wonderful! It's cozy and charming on the inside. I didn't end up taking many pix inside as they were so consistently full of patrons that I didn't want to intrude on people's meals. They also have an outdoor patio area, which is kept warm by heaters, but my friend had scored a table inside near the fireplace, and that turned out to be a perfect place. The menu has all the breakfast favorites, but with their own little creative twists. It was hard to narrow down to a final choice of what to order. Service was excellent throughout, and our server had a just-right sense of humor. The portions are enormous!!! Dear Hubby and I could have easily split one plate and would have gone away completely full. If one is going to order whichever dish you choose, unless you haven't eaten for a week, I would plan that you'll be taking away leftovers. Their homemade sausage patties were superb with a subtle sweet taste that complimented the savory meat. Thick, fluffy French toast was so delicious with real maple syrup to drizzle on top. DH fully enjoyed his biscuits and gravy. I don't know how he ate as much as he did, but I did do most of the driving in the afternoon while he napped off that breakfast! It was so divine to visit with my sweet friend in such a lovely atmosphere while eating delicious food. What a wonderful start to the day! I can see this being a draw for locals and visitors alike.

Omg the breakfast was so delicious! The pancakes were huge, but super yummy! I can't remember exactly what the hubby's breakfast was called, so sorry, but we loved it as well and the portions are enormous! The coffee was nice and strong, we loved everything and the service, fabulous, fast and friendly.
Food Ordered the Triple D Sampler (biscuits and gravy, with eggs and a cup of brisket chili) - yum! I think the chili was my favorite part - flavorful and good texture. The gravy for the biscuits and gravy was spiced well. My husband got the cinnamon roll pancakes and a side of a bacon. He was pleased with his meal. Pancakes were huge! Our lattes were pleasant - good presentation and flavor. Service Our server was patient, friendly, and informative. Ambiance The restaurant had an elevated diner vibe, nothing felt dated. I saw that they had a homemade mole for their breakfast burritos. Would definitely come back to try that out.
While visiting Carmel for a single night before hitting the road to explore Big Sur, I was on the hunt for a breakfast that would be open early, casual vibes, and (of course) delicious! My Yelp search introduced From Scratch Restaurant which satisfied all of my requirements but seeing that they were featured on Triple D is what sealed the deal. So I found myself (and my husband) inside the cozy diner shortly after they opened at 8am. If I could give half stars, I would give my experience a 3.5. The waitress had a lovely personality and was a pro at upselling (not mad at it). I ordered a single Granola Pancake and added a side of bacon and a fried egg. Thanks to the server's recommendation, I chose fresh blueberries and fresh banana to be cooked right into my pancake. It was the best pancake I have ever had!! Light and fluffy, little pockets of fruit bursting in my mouth, and the crunchy granola baked into the top! The servings are generous, so I ended up sharing some of my pancake with my husband and took a couple pieces of thick bacon to-go. My vanilla latte was served beautifully in a clear stein-style mug. It was quite hot, so I ended up taking it to-go since I did not drink much of it during my meal. However, after leaving, I realized the latte was burnt. My husband confirmed his black coffee also tasted burnt but he just kept adding sugar to it until he could drink it. I wish we had said something during the meal, but sadly the bad coffee brought my stars from a 4 down to a 3.5. I would definitely return for the pancake! If you need a cozy and casual diner breakfast, From Scratch is a fair choice.
Wow been a year. Could not wait for our return. Cool morning with our dog. Seated quickly on patio. Host turned on heater which was welcoming. Great open area with great ambiance. Server Nick was quickly out to our table. Bloody Marys ordered and quickly delivered. Food again was overloaded crazy plate. So what's wrong with that. Again another awesome experience. Looking forward to next year.
Great breakfast food, pancakes and corned beef hash and eggs Benedict were all solid and well priced/portioned. I eat a lot and I was full. The cheesy grits are very unique as they fry them, was something fun I'd never tried in this style. Outdoor patio is pretty and they have heating lamps on cooler days. Servers were very nice and attentive and food came out fast even though it seemed to be a full house.

The food was okay, I thought I was going to be more flavorful. The bread on the Benedict was a little chewy and soft. Asked if the potato's could be cooked to crisp, but they were a little undercooked. The chili was good though. read more

What a great place! We came here randomly, after another place we were supposed to go to was closed. So glad we did! It's in a beautiful shopping village. We were seated right away, but it was pretty busy when we got there. I had the banana walnut pancakes and it was HEAVENLY! I never finish my meals and almost finished this. My husband had the eggs and benedict and loved it! The service was also exceptional. We will be back for sure!! read more

We came here on a Tuesday morning and were surprised to see it busy. After our meal we certainly understand why! We ordered the french toast, extreme biscuits and gravy, and a side of potatoes. We were informed we were ordering what are considered their best dishes and it was delicious! The biscuits were flaky and moist, the gravy rich and decadent. The cinnamon french toast were a generous size and the bread was tender and chewy. A small detail that impressed me was the fruit sides. To have a fruit side were the produce was actually fresh, sweet, and crisp was a delightful surprise! The staff was lovely and the outdoor seating was cute and warm with the outdoor heaters. read more

Ate here for Sunday breakfast around 8:30AM. Perfect timing because when we left there was a long wait. Our waitress was very accommodating when I asked for a Vegan burrito. A very good place to eat breakfast indoors or outdoors. read more

Great fresh food tucked away in a local shopping center. Came here for brunch on a Saturday afternoon and it wasn't that busy. We were seated on the patio right away next to a heat lamp. This restaurant is also dog friendly so you'll see a lot of pets on the patio. The draw of the place is that it was featured on Diner, Drive-ins, and Dives with Guy Fieri. We had no idea, but I was curious and ordered the special that he tried called Triple D. It comes with 2 sausage patties on a biscuit smothered in gravy, 2 eggs, and your choice of side. I went with the deep fried cheese grits. Oh yeah, it also comes with a side of their brisket chili. The portions are HUGE!! I was stuffed by the end. The sausage was fresh and delicious and their biscuit was fluffy and light. I wasn't sure about their eggs, it had a weird taste to them. The deep fried cheese grit was interesting. It tasted like a cross between a hash brown and fried mac n cheese, but not as flavorful or as cheesey. The chili wasn't thick enough and a little too salty. Overall the atmosphere was nice and the food was good. Will come back if I'm visiting the area again. read more

They weren't stingy with the portions. Very good flavoring and recommended to anybody that likes breakfast meals. The omelets were filling and very big. I got a long sleeve sweater from here too. I intend to go back for the biscuits and gravy. read more

Amazing!! we loved this place we were on a road trip and just popped in it was the best breakfast of our trip by far! We wish we had one in the our home town! Service was amazing seating was clean service was fast and really sweet! Go there if you can! read more
I bookmarked this place because they have a pretty good reviews for a restaurant. We went here for Breakfast before going back to LA, and I didn't know that Guy Fieri visited this place! All the food is good and ask for free samples of their homemade Granola! Good addition for your yogurt! read more

This place is great if wanting brunch type comfort food! Very easy to get to located in the barnyard shopping plaza. We found this place just leaving 17 mile drive into Carmel. Missing 1 star for only being open until 2pm so no dinner options & always a long wait but it worth it! Delish food from Scratch!! read more

Please do yourself a favor and eat here. You need to order the brisket chili, the cinnamon bun pancake and the biscuits and gravy. Ask to sit in Bubbles section, she's the best. The huevos Rancheros is bomb also. read more

Doesn't look like much when you walk past, but I was practically dying of hunger. I came in here and ordered the cinnamon French toast, and was delighted with the delectable taste of the sugar on my tongue. Beautiful ambience once you sit down, surrounded by nature. What a sheer delivery gut. Our waitress Bubbles added to the experience as well. Very friendly. We waited about 15 minutes for a table at 9am on a Sunday. Choices are abundant for carnivores or vegetarians. Our parties choices included scrambled egg whites one with vegan sausage and other had a slice(slab) of ham. Hubby had the vegetarian eggs Benedict which had a veggie patty, avocado, hollandaise sauce and side of potatoes. Mine was the cinnamon roll pancake which was not too sweet, fluffy and filling. Couldn't pass on their house hash which had tons of corned beef accented with potatoes etc.. ALL was delicious. Our dog Bailey had a saucer of whipped cream to boot. read more

Carmel by the sea is such a gem of a town. The people here are also gems. Here at from scratch you will find a combination of both with some amazing breakfast on top of it. During my last visit here I came for the first time and will say this is easily one of my favorite breakfasts anywhere. I ordered the cinnamon roll pancake- which is genuinely that. A cinnamon roll pancake, where you can taste all of the cinnamon roll goodness. I got two ( shared one with my boyfriend) and I am happy to report two very satisfied belly's. My boyfriend ordered the triple d breakfast option, which yes I stole a lot of it. The meal came with a chili cheese, delicious eggs, bacon and fried grits. Let me tell you, never had those before but WOW. Also as a hot chocolate connoisseur I can tell you theirs is exquisite and made with milk! Or cream, not sure but it tasted so rich ( I personally hate hot chocolate mixed with water, which is what is commonly served). The waitress that helped us also made sure we didn't not need a thing and we're 100 percent happy with our meal. She definitely made our breakfast also. Coming from Orange County CA it is nice to see that genuine kindness and concern in making sure we enjoyed our meal. Thank you from scratch, we will be back. Again . Again and again. read more

Today we came for takeout and were planning to eat at one of the outdoor tables in the garden as instructed. Sat down at one of the outdoor tables and were told it belonged to SUR. Which of the outdoor tables are for everyone?
First off I am very sorry that that happened to you. Typically SUR is not open at the same time we are. So that we actually share - they use our tables outside at night sometimes. There is a picnic table on the back grassy area that is common…
