We stopped here after a fun morning checking out the local antique stores and market. First of all, this place is so cute inside! They have so many house-made jams, preserves, sauces, spreads, and pretty much anything you can put in a jar that all sounded delicious. They also have hilarious greeting cards and other fun odds and ends for sale. On top of that, Froelich's also happens to be a great deli with amazing baked goods! We tried the Mediterranean Tuna, Sasha's Special, and the Spicy Salami with some Pesto Chicken Salad. I thought the tuna was really good, but I wish I wouldn't have ordered a sourdough roll with it. The balsamic from the salad and the sourdough didn't really go together. Still, I would eat that again, but maybe on some lettuce. My mother had the Spicy Salami and didn't really think it was that flavorful. The real star of the trio was Sasha's Special, which had smoked turkey and your basic lettuce, cheese, and tomato. What made it absolutely delicious was the olive tapenade that they generously spread on the bottom. So good! Buy a jar of it! We also bought a pumpkin spice dessert that was perfect for the first day of fall. Overall, everything was great! read more

Got the breakfast burrito it was okay tasted like a tofu substitute not fresh chorizo and eggs like expected. Also way over priced 7.00 for a tiny burrito the ones at McDonald's are better. Donuts are small and not tasty. Very disappointed my favorite bakery is closed on Monday mornings thought I'd try here, will not return paid 24.00 to be disappointed. My sister in-law came to visit she stopped and got pastries on her way to my house. They tasted like sawdust dry and tasteless. So now more then one bad experience. Our order today from Froelich's was beyond disappointing. The muffelatta sandwich barely had any filling and was served on sourdough bread that should have been baked at least ten minutes longer. Very pale and undone. Also had a deviled egg with a very odd taste (terrible) and a corn salad with something indistinquishable in it - also terrible. Threw everything out so did not enjoy the lunch we were looking forward to. Haven't tasted the pastries yet, but we are not holding out any hope for them... Don't know what happened today, but after dropping major bucks for just a few items, we won't be returning. read more

This little spot is worth the (short) drive from Chicago. The owner (Colleen Froehlich) grows much of what she uses to hand-make her incredible jams, sauces, soups, salads, pickles and spreads. Don't miss the baked goods, especially the rosemary flat bread (good luck making it home without gobbling it up!). Delicious breakfast items that ranges from egg sandwiches (she also sells eggs that come from her son's chickens!) to amazing fresh-baked breads, muffins, bagels and cinnamon rolls. Lunch includes homemade soups (gazpacho in the summer is amazing), salads and sandwiches. Come for a meal and leave with some jars of hand-crafted deliciousness. In Froehlich's, everthing's made the old fashioned way. The bread, deviled eggs and pies get five stars- the peasant bread is out-of-this-world, if you can get Colleen to make in the the 'round instead of the loaf. It's absolutely the best in it's class for a bakery deli. Fresh fresh fresh! Exudes country charm. Almost everything offered there is homemade from scratch (Even the perfect multigrain sub sandwich rolls) and maybe even grown by them. They are nice and friendly and will bend over backwards to accommodate any special requests. The seating area is small so you may wait to be seated, or just carry it out and eat on a park bench, it's Three Oaks, MI after all. If you are having a party, this is the place for a tray of food that will wow your guests. if you want a sandwich and a bowl of soup this is your ticket too, and throw in a deviled egg just like your grandma used to make. read more

Stopped is for a quick lunch on a Friday. Had a wonderful ham & swiss Panini coupled with their famous pickled green tomatoes, an had a delicious, flavorful tomato & white bean soup for a starter. The place is really cute and stocked with homemade goodies. Was looking for one of their pies others rave about but no luck. Should have stocked up on their jams but figured we'd be back on our next trip to SW Michigan, but still kicked myself on the drive home for not doing so! Very friendly staff, even overhead one of the gals offering water for a customer's dog outside. They have small café tables inside and out, though the chairs weren't exactly comfy. read more

If you are in the area, you have to come here. I love their mufalata (sp?) sandwich on sourdough bread. It has their homemade olive relish that I crave when I'm home. I buy jars of it and it'll last for awhile. Their egg salad sandwich is also good. They make soups and breads and sauces and you can buy just about any of that in their store. While traveling I came upon Froelich's, it's hard for me to pass a bakery without stopping! Everything was a little pricier than most good bakeries I frequent. $5.95 for a loaf of bread and $3.85 for a muffin is on the high side. The mixed berry muffin was worth it, very flavorful, without being too sweet and greasy. The french peasant bread didn't have much body and tasted more like white bread. I love french peasant bread, but theirs was nothing special and certainly not worth the price. I did have a cup of coffee which was very good. Very nice staff and clean interior. read more

Can't say enough good things about Froehlich's and its owner Colleen. We've watched her grow her business over the years and are delighted about her well-deserved success. For about 7 years Froehlich's has been catering an annual open house that we have for 80-100 friends and family members. Our guests love their food, as do we. Great Jellies, Jams, Sauces. We have been visiting Froehlich's for about 6 years now. We mostly get food to go because the tables are really wedged in and it is uncomfortable to have people milling around you while you are eating. That said, they have wonderful home-made food. I love the 3 tomato sauce that they have. The jams and jellies are also fabulous. We often get food to go (quiche, deviled eggs, soup, wraps) and have never been disappointed. The people who work here are always friendly and helpful. They put together wonderful gift baskets too. read more

What a joke! On one side of the street they serve coffee and bakery items and on the opposite side of the street they have a full menu (minus coffee and bakery items). Overall the space is nice and open. They have a bar area and a deli service place to order sandwiches. Or you can be seated to order from their menu. The food was ok. My salad was lacking and mostly consisted of arugula. Service was slow. Here is the clincher- we ordered two of the chocolate cakes ($6.95!). Apparently they ran out and only had one left. The chocolate cake was maybe 1 inch by 2 inches. Literally ate it in two bites and it was close to $7. We went across the street to get espresso since they don't serve it in the restaurant. And guess what we saw- the same chocolate cake but twice as large and less money! Apparently, they cut the cake in half and sell it for more at the restaurant. When we talked to the manager she explained that we are paying extra for the service. It is not right to cut the cake in half to bite size and charge more. And if you ran out, why not go across the street to get more for your customer? Absolutely ridiculous. We will not be back. read more

My friend and I visited in the Three Oaks area for 3 weeks in July. We ate at Froehlichs and visited there 3 times. We bought a lot of their products and have not been disapointed with any of them. Froehlich's provided the cake and desserts for our wedding this past weekend and everything was absolutely incredible! The cake was perfect. It had everything that we wanted to represent both of our personalities. For the desserts we went with the OMG chocolate cake, creme brûlée, and macaroons (strawberry and blueberry jalapeno). Everything was so delicious and we heard so many compliments from our guests. Drew was wonderful to work with and we would highly recommend Froehlich's to anyone looking for amazing desserts for a wedding or any occasion! read more

Froehlichs is popular - very popular. So popular, it is oftentimes "standing room only" in the building. It's cute, yes, but the food is somewhat bland. I once ordered a hummus wrap, and what I got was hummus (that tasted like it was from a package) wrapped in a stale tortilla with three leaves of spinach and a pinch of grated carrot. And it cost me four dollars. I went back again, thinking I should try something a bit pricier. I got a great croissant - two dollars - and a piece of spinach quiche. The quiche was bland - it was like eating scrambled eggs with feta cheese. I went back for another croissant a few weeks later - not so great (stale and rubbery). And every time I've been there I've thought the employees have been a bit cold - a bit like I was inconveniencing them being there. It's too bad too, because I like little homegrown places like Froehlichs. read more

Just visited... during the town's "Inside Out Festival." This was my fourth time here. We usually stop to enjoy something yummy as we head up 12 to the lake towns... My mind was finally made up on this place. After several interactions and a myriad of orders, here's my take: The food can be unique (chicken salads, their flatbread, etc.); however, the distinct lack of common decency to another human being has sealed the deal- I will not be back. I am a 35 wf... I live in Mishawaka, In. I have travelled much further than Three Oaks, MI... And I always feel watched there, as I peruse through the kitchen items. Or, if I dare inquire about ingredients or offerings, the young and old staff are rarely pleasant in reply. I don't know if they are ruled over with an iron hand or what... At this point, I don't care... TO THE OWNER AND STAFF: CONSIDER YOUR CUSTOMER... EACH AND EVERYDAY... FOR WITHOUT YOUR CUSTOMER, YOU ARE WITHOUT A BUSINESS AND JOB! One star... food good... should do mail order or something else where you don't have to deal with people. Epic fail. read more

THE place to go in Three Oaks if you want to see Joan Cusack at lunch. Even if you're not a Joan fan, surely you'll find something at Froehlich's you'll enjoy. They bake their own delicious artisan breads, focaccia, scones and desserts. They make fantastic soups and creative deli salads. They sell homemade jams (the strawberry rhubarb is VERY hard to pass up) and snacks and offer a nice list of sandwiches and wraps to settle your hungry tummy. My last visit (the Joan Cusack visit) yielded an enormous Asian chicken salad wrap that lasted two meals and a spicy salami sandwich for Justin. Prices aren't dirt cheap, but Froehlich's uses premium ingredients and makes things well--and if Joan Cusack and other Chicago transplants are their customers, I guess the price is fine. The storefront is full of good cooking supplies (interesting pastas, sauces, olive oils and seasonings), tools and serving pieces. And I do mean FULL--the space is a bit cramped. But it's a great place to enjoy a sandwich and play I-Spy. You might just spy a celebrity. read more

On the plus side, the food here is great - interesting salads, a range of sandwiches, and a ton of various canned and pickled goods. It's cute,and there are lots of knickknacks, kitchen stuff and gourmet groceries for sale. On the down side, the place just gets wayyyyy too busy on weekends to even try to go at lunchtime. (They re-did the interior a couple years back, and while they made lots of great new kitchen and baking space, the customer service and eating area stayed tiny.) You can feel suffocated at lunchtime if you're standing in the long line that wraps around the space and around the diners at the handful of tables. It seems like it takes forever just to have a sandwich made. If they doubled the service area and hired more workers, I'd give it five stars. read more

Froehlich's made all the pies and personal galettes for my wedding this summer. We loved planning and working with Timothy so much we decided to have them also cater the breakfast the day after the wedding. The pies were out of this world. They let us pick and choose which fruit pies we would like and even let me add on a chocolate chess pies, per my sister's request, which people could not stop talking about. It's pretty much like eating a brownie pie. The breakfast quiche and muffuletta were devoured and the bagels and cream cheese/jam.... OH the JAM, were perfect for guests on the go. Timothy was an absolute delight to work with and made it SO easy I barely had to think about the dessert and breakfast. Everything went off without a hitch and endless praise, except I was told I didn't order enough muffuletta. Live and Learn. I never had a chance to try the galettes they were gone within an hour. Love this place. Also, give the Mediterranean Tuna Sandwich a shot if you stop in. It is mayo free with large chunks of tuna, celery, tomato. Yummerz read more

Being a long time patron of Froelich's, someone who may stop in a couple times a week, I asked if they would be interested in catering parts of a wedding weekend. The answer was, absolutely. It was amazing. We planned out the rehearsal dinner and the brunch for the day after. Colleen etal blew everyone away. The dinner was a picnic buffet including fried chicken and steak, prepared on our grill, great salads and wonderful desserts, including home baked pies. The service was great, thank you Emily, and Colleen made sure that there was nothing amiss. Sunday brunch was great, but that can not be a surprise to anyone familiar with Froelich's, especially if the menu includes their cinnamon rolls, bagels and quiche, not to mention homemade jams.
