Riding through town and noticed Nikki's Cafe. It's an older building, thinking oh a ma & pa place must have good food and service. Nope.... I ordered bacon cheese burger with Swiss cheese medium cook with French fries. It finally got to the table and first thing I noticed is no Swiss cheese - it had American cheese. Waited for them to throw Swiss cheese on it. Well it went down hill from there. The meat sure didn't look like Hamburg (menu said ground round), there was no taste to it and not cooked the way I ordered. Now I try the French fries differently not like anything I've seen or tasted. The coating was terrible. Needless to say my family will not be back and will tell anyone who asks to stay away and save your money. read more

Great small town cafe! Happened to be in the town and stopped by for coffee but ended up with a big hearty breakfast. We were greeted as soon as we came thru the door. Got my coffee within 2 minutes! Food was great! Especially the rye toast! Nice, small town, farmhouse decor. Decent sized servings, "American" fries, think thick cut hash browns, were cooked to perfection with a little crust on them. Service was friendly, attentive, professional & personal. The only thing I could complain about was that the coffee was weak but that's an easy fix. They take cash only, just an FYI. But I do not blame them. It has been several years since our last visit when we decided to pop into Nikki's for a quick breakfast. We will not be returning...ever. There appeared to be 3 servers on duty, and the place was about half full. Yet somehow they were able to make it appear that they were on the verge of being overwhelmed (of course, this is simply my opinion). Our server took our drink order (2 coffees) but offered no greeting whatsoever. She reached from a table away and plopped two menus onto the edge of our table as if she couldn't spare two steps and a smile. At this point my wife and I decided that our server was tired and was having a bad day. It happens. A bit later, she served us coffee and took our order, all without mumbling three words. Our breakfast arrived in a reasonable amount of time, but it was already cold! I don't mean it had cooled off - it was cold! By this time our coffee cups had been perched at the edge of our table, lonely and dry, while our server managed to pass by several times apparently not noticing. We managed to flag her down (she was apparently too busy to do a quick check after serving us) and asked if we could have our plates warmed up. She grunted something and took one plate at a time to the kitchen! When she brought the second plate back she 'apologized' by telling us that the kitchen staff had the door wide open and all the cold air was blowing in. The meal was as advertised, that is if you like toast with butter covering only about 20% of it. The eggs were cooked appropriately, and my wife's scrambles included a bonus inside - a hair! With not enough spirit of adventure to power through the rest of her eggs, and no coffee to wash them down with anyway, we decided that it was time to go. We had our check, but there was nobody around to take our money, so we left it on the table and made our exit. A shame, I really wanted to chronicle our experience if they asked how everything was! The bottom line - rather than take our chances again at Nikki's again, we'll stop by Speedway for an old donut and cup of cooked-down coffee. We advise you to do the same. read more

Friend and I were out for a drive, looking for yarn shops in lower Michigan. We found one in Berrien Springs that didn't open until noon so we asked for a place for lunch from the Hardware store associate across the street from the yarn shop. Nikki's was recommended so off we went. When we got there there was a sign in the door that stated "Cash Only". In we went to a cozy room that obviously was well cared for. We were waited on immediately. Friend ordered a 2 egg breakfast; it was a patty melt for me. There was one server and she hustled, knowing her regulars and what they wanted before they asked for it. After a short wait our food arrived. Friend's plate looked like a 4 egg breakfast. . My patty melt meat was medium and delicious. The fries were perfect and hot. We were waited on as if we were regulars. This is a nice diner in a small town that does a great job. If I'm ever back in the area I'll head back to Nikki's. read more

Local mom n pop cafe eatery. I got the open face roast beef and my better half got the tenderloin. My meal was amazing but the tenderloin was a bit disappointing. Small compared to the comedically large ones served in the Midwest and tasted like a frozen food service item instead of home made. Staff was great but busy. They apologized for being short staffed, which was thoughtful. I would definitely go back the next time I was in the area. I mentioned before how the prices vary depending upon the waitress. On a later visit, I was charged $11 for a veggie reuben and fries. I think the menu brings this to $7.50, or something like that. This seemed a little excessive, so I did questioned the cashier about it. She didn't offer an explanation, but she did insist that $11 was correct. More recently, a friend and I went there for lunch. We ordered, and 40 minutes later our meal had still not come. We had a meeting to attend, so we told our waitress that we needed to go because our lunch break was over. She tried to tell us that we had only been waiting for 20 minutes. Then someone else came out of the kitchen and told us that they didn't expect so many people to want the same thing, and because of that they had run out of something and had to make more. Realizing that this was our fault for ordering the same thing, we both decided to wait a few more minutes so that we could take our food to go. We offered our apologies and paid full price, because of course it was our fault for being such an inconvenience to them. After all that, our biscuits tasted like mildew or something. Hmmm. A classic family owned breakfast café to spend time with your family. Is the magic mountain overrated? Yes. I tried both the meat and vegetarian options. I can safely say I don't shoot mana out of my ears and nostrils. My go-to is their chicken wrap with crispy fries. Don't expect a miracle if you're paying less than $10, but that's a given anywhere. This place has really has taken a turn for the worse, miss the people who were her before covid, they were more caring and ensured you were taken care of. Came here today since they opened and have to say it was the worst service. Took forever to take orders, took forever to get food, and unpersonal. They were turning people away telling them they were closed and then a large party walked in and because they knew the people working there they were allowed to stay. On top of that they sat a foot away from us not abiding by social distancing and being loud! However, the food is still good and the coffee is excellent as always! read more

Nikki's Cafe has that small town diner charm that some of us grew up with and love. Located in Berrien Springs MI, Nikki's offers the locals a wonderful place to meet and have breakfast. There were many times in college that I would find myself ordering a magic mountain on a Saturday morning because my universities cafeteria was closed. My favorite experience here was when I was told that my usual order was now an eating challenge and that I would win a free t-shirt if I finished it in 1 sitting. Of course this was just another breakfast for me and I walked away with a new shirt and a place in their wall of winners. After reading the reviews I knew this was the place for me. We were promptly seated and had coffee in a flash. Always a good thing. I decided to go with their feature item "the magic mountain." It sounds like a gut buster but the biscuits were light and fluffy and sausage gravy was not too heavy either. I did request the hash browns be well done and they were. We also ordered a breakfast burrito too. It was a good choice but not exceptionally big. I guess I am use to the bomber in Ypsilanti ;) Prices are inexpensive and service was outstanding. Ever since I found this gem of a Cafe, we have been back three times in a month. The breakfast (served all day) is huge. I am also a vegetarian and I had the best Veg Patti Melt ever. The veg burger is so good and not generic tasting and the rye bread there is perfect. I wake up craving it in the middle of the night. We have come with a party of five each time and everyone loved their food, (even my sometimes picky mother and mother in law haha) from the burgers (the coated fries are awesome) to vegetarian offers and again, the servings are huge, the prices are great and the service is very friendly. read more

This is the go-to diner in Berrien Springs! The food is excellent and reasonably priced. The servers and staff are very friendly and helpful. You have to try the Magic Mountain - don't ask, just do it! I prefer the breakfast options but the lunch and dinner options are also good. I love small town diners and cafes and Nikki's is definitely towards the top of my list after 1 visit on Sunday morning. They have a large selection of unique offerings for breakfast including some diverse omelet offerings along with 2 pages of other options. My rating is not for exotic ingredients or hard to find options and I wouldn't call Nikki's a destination restaurant, but what they do well, they do very well. Hearty portions and great flavor. The corner restaurant itself is fairly small, simply decorated and very clean. The building is just up the hill from the St. Joseph river. The service was very pleasant and attentive. We had at least 3 waitresses stop at our table to refill coffee and water or ask if we needed anything else.The prices for the portions received were excellent. Had lunch here on Sunday after doing some trail running over at the Andrews University trails. The place was packed when we arrived around noon and I think we got the last free table - usually a very good sign. Waitress took our drink order and brought the drinks quickly. After that, the service took a nose dive. About 20 minutes later, we had to ask someone to take our order and after another 5 or so minutes, someone obliged (not the original waitress). The kitchen was backed up and I really don't know how long it took for the food to come, but over a half hour. The food itself was solid home-cooked/diner type food and the portions were generous. The price was very reasonable. The table next to us (who had arrived before us) waited probably 20 minutes for their check. Taking their cue, I just walked up to the register and waited for someone to come over to pay. So, I would give the food 4 stars and the service 2 stars. If you like breakfast food, this is a no brainier. We came here for brunch. We ordered, and in the time that we sent a message to our friends, the food was out. Any faster and the food would have come out BEFORE we ordered it. The food is delicious and the portions are huge, and the prices are very reasonable... Almost cheaper than grocery shopping. My wife and I have never eaten here and not taken a box out with us. Eating at Nikki's was a treat about a year ago but the quality has slowly declined and has now finally hit rock bottom. The quality of the food and service was so poor it was unbelievable. Let's deal with the service first. When I entered the restaurant, I sat near an outlet to use my computer. The server warned me that the last time that outlet was used it caught fire. I thought that was a good heads up. I was appreciative and moved to the back to have access to an outlet. When I moved my items, i received no assistance. I moved my food, drink, and silverware to the back myself. I was shocked. But that's not the end. I ordered the fish fry. This meal is basically a fish buffet with fries. Now the customer has the option of seasoned(coated) fries, regular fries or potatoes. I requested the seasoned fries. When my food arrived I had regular fries which were stale and dry. Before I could ask, the waitress informed me that they were out of seasoned fries yet she do not bother to ask what I preferred between the potatoes or regular fries. She made the choice for me, smh When I received the food, it had such a lackluster appeal. Most importantly, the fish batter was not seasoned therefore the fish had no flavor. Now, a year ago, that fish was crispy and tasty. Today, it was neither of the two. So I paid 9.75 for a couple of stale fries that I didn't order and four pieces of tasteless fish. Oh yeah, I ordered thousand island dressing and she brought me ranch. Can't forget to mention, the place was under staffed. Lastly, even though I planned to be there for some time, I immediately paid for the check and left. Upon this last transaction, the server's disposition seemed off. I could be wrong. Nikkis is my hometown restaurant. I go to this place only when I absolutely am starving in the morning. And don't wanna drive miles out of the way to get a quick breakfast. Every single time I am disappointed. Their service is beautiful. The food is bland. Borderline hospital food. I got the biscuits and gravy without the pork sausage sub with chicken sausage. Tastes like low grade hot dogs. The gravy is nice and creamy. Only seasoned with salt and pepper. Over easy eggs cooked over medium almost over hard. The potatoes are awful. I don't know why they don't add any type of seasoning?! But every single time I get them I have to recook them and season them myself. The coffee is watery, lunch food isn't great. I don't get the fuss over this place. I could easily go to a Walmart and grab a frozen breakfast and be more satisfied.
