Tofu was delicious
Jovina B.

Food is hands down one of the best breakfast I've had. We ordered jalapeno, smoked salmon scramble and tofu plus of course their delicious pancakes. All were incredibly yummy. Place was huge with patio and a bar. Gave a 4 star bec service is horrible. We made reservations but still had to wait 25 minutes. What's the purpose of the reservation? It took an hour to get our food, granted they were very busy. In a normal day, I would have walked away but was meeting a friend that I hadn't seen in a decade. Our drinks didn't come all at the same time. Highly recommend this place on a none busy day or maybe after 1 PM Street parking and a parking lot beside it.

Corned beef hash, eggs over medium, rye toast, orange juice

What an amazing find! A true gem! I can't take credit for finding The Mason Jar Cafe, as I was brought by friends who are from the area. But I'm sure glad they brought me! I love the repurposed building turned into a restaurant which now brings life back into the downtown area. I was here for brunch with friends who recommended the corned beef hash. This is not from a can, but is made with chunks of real corned beef, fresh potatoes and onions, seasoned just right and served with eggs cooked to order, and a choice of various kinds of toast (I got rye). There were several options. I tell you what, I've never had corned beef hash so good. It really was delicious. And generously served with a smile. The server did a fantastic job ensuring we had all we needed. She brought me a refill before I had to ask. Drinks are served in Mason jars as the name suggests. We dined on the patio. The weather was perfect. The whole experience was perfect. And to share it with friends was even better. I highly recommend this place!

crab cakes with mason jar salad + brown sugar cinnamon vanilla latte

My boyfriend and I came here on a whim but we were not disappointed -- the food here is fresh & high quality. The menu lists where the food is sourced from! Even their ketchup tastes completely different from the generic ketchup because it tasted like real tomato. I absolutely loved the crab cakes with the mason jar salad. My brown sugar vanilla cinnamon latte was delicious as well! My boyfriend's vietnamese coffee was unfortunately not as good- it didn't have the strong Vietnamese coffee flavor (truthfully didn't taste like real viet coffee) so if you're considering getting this, it's worth skipping. The inside was spacious, and not overly packed even on the weekend. The staff was very friendly and attentive. After our first visit, we came back a second time a few days later so I can definitely say this will become a go-to spot for brunch:)

Lauren's Special--mix of black beans, French lentils, ranchero sauce, arugula, roasted root veggies, poached eggs, cilantro, and guacamole.

The Mason Jar Cafe in Benton Harbor is hands-down one of the best breakfast spots we've ever been to--and a must on our annual St. Joseph beach trip. My partner had the Buttermilk Pancakes with fresh blueberries--thick, fluffy, and melt-in-your-mouth good. I ordered my favorite, Lauren's Special--a brilliant mix of black beans, French lentils, ranchero sauce, arugula, roasted root veggies, poached eggs, cilantro, and guacamole. Unique, locally sourced, and bursting with flavor--it's the dish I dream about all year. Drinks were spot on. My "bottomless" coffee was topped off constantly, and my partner's chai latte hit the mark. Our server, Luna, was delightful--attentive, friendly, quick with our food, and even sent me off with a to-go coffee (small gesture, big win). The atmosphere is artsy, warm, and instantly assures you the meal will be something special. Every visit reminds us why this place stands out--not just a vacation tradition, but truly a destination breakfast cafe worth seeking out. We'll be back, again and again.

Mason Jar has been a staple in the community since it opened. They have consistently offered great breakfast/lunch/brunch options using locally sourced ingredients. The dining area is fun and eclectic and the patio is great in the summer! They offer great gluten free options and their zucchini waffle always satisfies. You can add chocolate chips and bacon inside which makes it a savory, sweet delight. Their drink selection is great: fresh squeezed juices, teas, lattes, and breakfast cocktails. I enjoyed their vanilla matcha latte this time. The service is polite and prompt and they have their system down. Despite usually being packed, food never takes a crazy long time and we usually are seated quickly. Love that you can put your name in ahead of time. Always look forward to family breakfast at Mason Jar :)

The food was wonderful! 10/10. The waitress was kind and the atmosphere was nice. It's a little loud, but overall a great experience. You might want to ask for a pitcher of water.

Pumpkin cream cheese pancake

Wow- perhaps one of the best breakfasts we have had!! We had the messy egg(egg sandwich with avocado and bacon), the mason jar (two eggs, breakfast potatoes), bacon and the biscuits and gravy. So amazing! I switched out my toast for the pumpkin cream cheese pancake. It was glorious! Waitress did a nice job of offering suggestions and asking if we needed anything. Open warehouse, and industrial earthy atmosphere with some quaint rooms within. This meal was wonderful.

Kind of pricey, but SO worth it! We are never disappointed with whatever we order. The staff are really nice and hustling the whole time. Highly recommend the Zucchini Waffles that are gluten free. So light and crisp and fluffy-amazing!

We really enjoyed our breakfast experience at this renovated warehouse. It's broken up into smaller rooms which helps cut down on the noise in a warehouse space. The food was good, service was fast the space was clean and sparsely though tastefully decorated. I had wildberry hibiscus tea and the zucchini waffle with bacon. I think I would have liked More zucchini in the waffle mix, but as served it was light, fluffy and tasty. My husband enjoyed the stuffed French toast with blueberries and marscapone cheese. He also had a side of eggs that looked to be half dozen, to his delight. We highly recommend this gem in the arts district.

Corned beef hash

If I could give it 10 stars I would! Hands down the best corned beef hash we've ever had! Coming from the North East US, that's huge! Such a unique menu. I had the goat cheese grit cakes and eggs- amazing! Our server Niambi was attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and so calm at such a busy time! Well worth the wait!

French toast, fruit cup, breakfast potatoes
Amy M.

The Mason Jar Cafe is by far the best brunch spot I've found in the Benton Harbor/St. Joe area. The french toast is one of the best things I have ever had. The potatoes were well seasoned, and the fruit cup had variety. The restaurant is large with plenty of seating. It can get busy, so make sure to allow time for a short wait. However, the food is worth it. I highly recommend giving it a try!

Organic Broccoli Scramble
Wendi S.

The Mason Jar is a must-visit spot for brunch! I ordered the goat cheese and grit cakes, and they were absolutely delicious--creamy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. My husband had the organic broccoli scramble, and he couldn't stop raving about it. The coffee was also great, hot and fresh, which is always a plus. Our server, Melanie, was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and very knowledgeable about the menu. She gave us some excellent recommendations. The only negative but didn't really bother us too much is that they are doing some renovation on one side of the restaurant and it got loud from time, so if you are someone who is sensitive to noises maybe come when they are done with the renovations. We'll definitely be back!

My husband got the "in a van down by the river" cocktail, which I tasted, and we both agreed was delicious. For our appetizer, which we had never ordered one before from this establishment, we got the Wisconsin cheese curds. The sauce it came with reminds me of a good sauce for onion rings and was just as amazing on the cheese curds (it was called Sunny ranch I believe). We both got our usual entrees, my husband ordered a double smash burger and I got the atomic punk sandwich, both of which came with fries. My husband devoured his food, while my anxiety basically required me to wait until we got home to eat. I would definitely recommend stopping by The Brick House and grabbing a bite to eat. They have never disappointed us or the people we've sent their way.

The menu has so many interesting and tasty options that it makes it hard to choose what to order first. The ambiance is warm and welcoming, the staff is friendly. Even though you are in the middle of an open-concept business collective, the layout of the restaurant space makes you feel like you are in someone's giant, awesome home kitchen and you can watch as your meal is made. It took me a moment to put my finger on it, but this place gives you the reassurance that your meal is being made by people who enjoy good food. As someone who loves to cook and is on the tail end of a road trip, this was the most relaxed and enjoyable meal I've had in a while. I enjoyed it on so many levels. The restaurant is tucked away inside of a bigger collective of stores, one of which is Dad's Farm, a little grocery with a nice collection of packaged and frozen locally sourced foods. There are other shops in the collective including a coffee shop, brewery, cheese shop, wine shop, and gift shop with great art, cards, jewelry and other clever gifts. It's a nice group of shops where you can pick up some great souvenirs. A quick note about the entrance to the collective: it was not obvious to me, though I might have missed some signage. I was looking at the map on my phone, was on Pleasant St, and passed by the whole thing several times. I almost gave up trying to find it, but I could smell good food, so I finally took a chance on a tinted door near a coffee shop and was happily surprised to find I was in the right spot for Dad's Cafe as well. Give Dad's Farm and Cafe a try, I think you'll really enjoy it!

The food here is ok but apparently they want to lose a customer over refusing to refund an item…read morethat was not given, like I don't spend enough in their expensive store on a regular basis anyway. Or, I did. This person must really need 50 cents badly to actually ignore a customer and to refuse a refund. Your business will not last if you do not have the management skills to back up cooking skills. And this is a small area. When a customer asks you why you charged them something, they are not just asking. It is theft. I expect an answer when I ask that question. My receipt clearly shows a custom charge of 50 cents, for a side of sauce that I did not receive. It was actually supposed to be a dollar because I ordered 2 sides. I sent a message and was told that I was not charged, end of reply. I replied that I was. Instead of sending a refund, they sent me a copy of the current receipt that clearly shows a 50 cent custom charge on it. I am not the blind one here. I messaged again asking what the charge was for, if not for the sauce. No reply. I am also tired of tipping on takeout just to have no one check the orders and for it to go out wrong, no more. What is the tip for? It was 2 items, juice, and some sauce, not hard to get right. Tip in cash only if your order is correct. A normal response would also be to apologize for getting the order wrong to begin with. I have not received another response or a refund so I take it that they feel entitled to take money for items not given. It is not about the amount of money, just the audacity and bad business practices. Shameful behavior. There is nothing special about the menu here so something better will eventually take its place.
