I don't write many reviews, but my experience here definitely deserves one! I called about two weeks in advance trying to make a reservation for a surprise brunch for 12 people for my fiancée and our families. I found out they don't take reservations during brunch, which I completely understand. When I arrived, they told me they would seat us once everyone had arrived. The initial plan was to seat us at three separate tables of four. Apparently, both my fiancée and I must have made a face when we heard that, because when they called us in, they had a full table ready for ALL of us! We all had a really good meal, and it ended up being a great experience for everyone. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we could all sit together, and we really appreciated it. We came around noon on a Sunday and were seated within 5 minutes. We sat outside because it was a beautiful day. It was really convenient too because this is a 5 minute walk from our hotel. We started with a peach Bellini and grapefruit mimosa and both drinks were very nice and refreshing. I ordered the monte cristo with strawberry sauce and my husband got the elephant ear waffle. He said it was his ideal waffle with all the cinnamon that came with it. I also enjoyed my sandwich. The breakfast potatoes were amazingly crispy. I was visiting downtown St. Joseph, on the hunt for brunch, when I spotted The Copper Pot! There is outdoor and indoor seating with booth or table options. I loved the copper and brass decor throughout! The menu was large with various choices but I was disappointed that the combo meals lacked any kind of deal. Our waitress was kind but our food took quite a while to come out. My table got the Buttermilk Pancakes and the Bob's Breakfast. The pancakes were a large portion and delicious. What a cute little breakfast spot in the most perfect beach town. They were quite busy but we were seated in less than 10 min & our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, we really enjoyed her. First things first: brunch on Thursday! Im a huge fan of getting the weekend started early. My spinach scramble came out hot and perfectly prepared, fluffy eggs, robust portions and served up with an adequate house coffee. Speaking of serving, I counted no fewer than five people on the floor, waiting on maybe three tables of customers. 'Course, there were also a couple of outside tables, but almost every one of the well-trained servers checked on us during the meal. If I sound blown away, it's probably cause I'm used to an indifferent, distant or just understaffed restaurant experience in Portland. No eye-rolls here. The layout is low -key but clearly a fancier, more cafe-style spot than your average diner. You got two proper bar areas with modern updated finishes (the only one was being used) and the bathrooms are modern and clean; In fact, I think this place changes over to a steakhouse --- or at least it shares part of the space with the next-door 221 restaurant-- in late afternoon, which makes sense. From what I can tell, this place is only open mornings into early afternoon. The menu we were given had the usual breakfast staples; omelettes, Benedict's and crepes, with mimosas and Bloodys also available. The owner is the host and is running around in empty restaurant very discombobulated. Menu looks very impressive until you actually receive your food and then it's a huge let down. Waffle and chicken I felt like the breaded chicken tender was bought from Walmart with a bisquick waffle. Not to mention there was barely any honey on the waffles and then charges me $.75. The place is very big. We came on a weekday and only the first two rooms were open for seating. The service was efficient. I enjoyed my iced tea despite a very small glass but you do get refills. My daughter enjoyed her latte. The farmer omelette was fresh and delicious. I loved the breakfast potatoes! Please note the bacon is thick and more like ham. I tried the eggs benedict, biscuits and gravy, and a small orange juice. The food was mostly good but I did not like the hollandaise. It was very lemony and there was just a tiny amount. It was too lemony to have any more than what was on it, but the best thing about eggs benedict is the sauce, so it needs a lot more of a different sauce. Service was friendly. I would try some other things here. I stopped in again for eggs casino and blueberry pancakes. I like that they have sugar-free syrup. The cheese sauce is better than the hollandaise but the egg was a bit undercooked and I would skip the tomato next time. Pancakes were good. I was so excited to try this new restaurant. Even more excited when I saw the benny section of the menu because benny's are my favorite! Unfortunately, they missed the mark a little bit. I got the eggs blackstone benny, which was supposed to come on country toast. I pictured it coming on like a texas toast type of thing, but instead it was a hard thin cut of bread that was either over-toasted or stale. I kept joking at my table that I needed a chainsaw to cut my breakfast so that I could eat it. Also the tomato must have been cooked on the bread as it was overcooked because it was dried out and stuck to the bread. Just not an appetizing situation all around. One of my friends got the crabcake benny which she asked for her eggs over medium because she doesn't like poached eggs and they still poached the eggs. She ate it because she didn't want to wait to send it back, but I think she wasn't that thrilled about it. One of my other friends got the yogurt and granola and apparently they use fat-free yogurt which was tasteless. We've tried several places in the area and had better experiences. It could have just been an off day, but generally speaking it was not ideal. read more

This is an excellent breakfast restaurant. Their "Benny" selections are their specialty. My friend had the Short Rib Benny and felt it was exceptional. I had Ben's breakfast with was a standard egg, meat selection, toast, potatoes and tomatoes breakfast. I usually don't eat the breakfast potatoes but these were excellent! I really like the way they were seasoned and not greasy. The service was very good and the restaurant has great ambiance. I will be eating at The Copper Pot again and highly recommend it. read more

The Copper Pot Breakfast Café is a fantastic breakfast spot in downtown St. Joseph, Michigan with elevated breakfast fare. We also like their outdoor seating. If there is a line, be patient...they are very efficient and it's worth it. One of the unique features of The Copper Pot is their coffee/espresso bar which also has alcohol options. As I sipped on an Espresso Martini, I was taken with its smoothness. The Barista explained that the smoothness and rich flavors come as a result of cold brewing espresso beans, resulting in a drink that is less acidic and bitter compared to traditional hot espresso. The three espresso beans floating on top symbolize health, wealth and happiness. I also noticed the cocktail menu read MIMOSA FUR-THE-TABLE - a carafe of OJ, a bottle of prosecco and miniature frozen OJ paws at the bottom of each glass. The owners contribute $5 to the Humane Society of Southwest Michigan for every Mimosa Fur-The-Table ordered. If you are an Eggs Benedict fan, The Copper Pot has eight "Benny's" to choose. We sampled the Eggs Florentine which had rustic, country toast as the base instead of a traditional English muffin. Piled high was sauteed spinach, avocado, sun-dried tomato, and poached eggs, bathed in a delightful scratch-made hollandaise sauce. The exquisitely balanced hollandaise presented slightly sweet undertones and the tangy acidity of the sundried tomatoes made this dish "pop." We watched as pancakes, French toast and waffles paraded from the kitchen to other tables, and all looked visually appealing. We split the Copper Pot Waffle, which was golden brown, crowned with lemon confit and served with house-made amaretto syrup. The delicate aroma of freshly cooked batter tantalized the senses, inviting anticipation with each bite. The waffle held a decadent, buttery taste complemented by subtle notes of vanilla, almond, and, of course, lemon. These flavors complemented the subtle sweetness of the cake but didn't overpower. You can add little bites of the lemon confit to boost the intensity. I could do another review on the house-made amaretto syrup. My wife is not much of a drinker, but she adored this syrup, which unquestionably elevates the waffle experience with its wow-factor. This is a 21+ dish. The Breakfast BLT is a massive sandwich consisting of jumbo slices of rustic bread enveloping two eggs, thick bacon, roasted tomato, arugula, and horseradish mayo. Initially uncertain about horseradish mayo on a breakfast sandwich, I found it to be pleasantly subtle yet undeniably superb. The bacon was on point...thick, meaty, salt and smoke balanced, and cooked to crispy perfection. Roasting the tomato and utilizing the peppery taste of arugula were brilliant culinary choices. This champion is served with The Copper Pot's famous Morning Potatoes. The cubed redskins were tender yet slightly firm in texture, with a golden-brown exterior that offers a satisfying crunch. I came here for a quick breakfast with a friend and her kids before I had to head off to the airport to go home. They got pancakes which were huge and they said they were very good. Her daughter got a fruit cup which was nicely sized and tasty, though the apples were a little soft (probably just what got delivered). I had the copper pot waffle - there wasn't much/any amaretto syrup that I noticed, but I just used some maple syrup on the table. It was good but I may try something different in the future. Want to start off by saying I don't mean any harm with this review and I hope the owners will grow from the feedback. I only want success for all of our downtown businesses! With that being said, the good...excellent customer service and love the location/ambiance. My rating is based on my food experience alone... I'm a Benny connoisseur so I was really excited to see such an extensive list of Bennys to choose from...I went with the classic. The ham and English muffin were great, nice thick slice of REAL ham...the egg didn't seem to be poached (as you can tell from the picture it's pretty "formed") and the white part was very runny/watery/undercooked...what should've been the star of the show, the hollandaise sauce, was straight up awful (I'm sorry)...best way to describe it is bitter and kinda spicy, it basically tasted like mustard and mayonnaise mixed together and it was THICCCC...like the consistency of pudding and custard mixed together (notice how in the picture the upside down fork has a glob of the hollandaise on it...stays there and doesn't fall off the fork). On the bright side, mi daughter had the crepes and while she didn't care for the whipped cream (it had a funny taste, we couldn't put our finger on it...thought maybe there was coconut in it? Didn't taste BAD, just a weird flavor profile). Other than that she loved them, the berry compote was very good. I'd definitely give this place another try, maybe it was an off day for whoever made the hollandaise? If/when I go back I'll ask for a sample of the sauce before ordering...if it tastes the same, I'll just order something else. read more

Potatoes were okay, they could be crispier but had decent seasoning. Scramble: Decent but the Canadian bacon was too big for a bite. BLT: Delicious! I've been to the Copper Pot twice nice, because I liked it so much I got the Short Rib Benedict both times. Not often do places have short ribs on the menu. I also tried out their pancakes as well and really liked what I describe as a bit of a savory/sweet vibe. My only negative would be that it's quite a tight squeeze, the tables are very close together making it hard to get out and around without bumping into another table. This negative wouldn't stop me from visiting though, I look forward to trying some other menu items. read more
