A super cute cafe and shop! I instantly felt welcomed by the staff and even chatted with some of them while I waited for my food, which was nice and fun. Tons of fresh baked goods, homemade pastas, vegetarian dishes, and sandwiches. I tried their frittata of the day which was broccoli and cheese and it was a giant slice! They also served it with a side of honey mustard balsamic dressing, which I thought was weird at first, but the flavors actually worked well together. What a great little treasure in the heart of downtown St. Joseph! We recently stopped into Caffe Tosi for brunch this summer, and I wish I could have ordered every single thing on the menu! Ended up scarfing down some breakfast sandwiches inside the cafe, which is small and busy, but still easy to find a seat and enjoy the atmosphere. We dined next to men in suits having a business meeting, an adorable family with children on vacation, teenagers hanging out over baked goods and lattes, and people coming in for grab-and-go goodies. If I lived in this area, I'd be a regular! The sandwiches were delicious, and we ended up taking home some pastries and a large container of their famous minestrone soup, which they always have available in the coolers, along with many other soups and chilis. If you're spending the day at the beach, it's a hop, skip, and a jump away! And you can have the super-friendly employees pack a bag full of goodies for your friends & family to enjoy on the sunset coast! Sweet, savory, hot, cold... they do it all! So nice, we went there twice! On Saturday we picked up a couple of treats (lemon bar, chocolate pudding cake, granola chocolate chip cookie with walnuts) to take to dinner at a friend's house. Everything was delicious so we stopped back to get some goodies for the road on Sunday. Went Sunday morning for a quick breakfast and Caffe Tosi did not disappoint. The 3 of us got the egg, cheese and bacon croissant. We also got the chia tea. The croissant and eggs were fluffy the bacon was crisp it was an awesome sandwich. We also got a puff pastry ham and Swiss for later and it to was great. You walk up to the counter and order and call your name out they were very quick the experience was truly remarkable. Caffe Tosi looks like a night club from the outside and an old fashioned ice cream shop on the inside. I heard they recently had an exterior revamp - I just don't feel it matches the interior. Besides looks, everything they sell looks divine from the Bit of Swiss treats to the sides/salads. We sat with our coffee and treats (hot cross buns!) for a light afternoon break. Caffe Tosi is a wonderful little spot my family has been frequenting in downtown St. Joseph for decades. My mom often came in for coffee when I was young for a moment of calm. As a group my mom, my grandma, my cousins and I would come in for lunch or a cookie when visiting Lake Michigan. The employees are super friendly and the business is very quaint. Even before the pandemic there weren't loads of tables, and now they are down a few to keep social distancing measures possible, so you may need to take your items to go. I have tried to not order the same thing twice in a row when coming here just so I can try lots of different things, and I'm happy to say I've never been disappointed. My mom and I both got a tuna based item. My mom got a tuna salad sandwich (not put in the panini press, so it was a cold sandwich) that came with a side of macaroni salad, while I got a tuna melt that came with a side of beets. My mom and I preferred each others sides so, like giggling school children, we switched sides. We both enjoyed our meals very much and they kept us energized for our shopping downtown. Having consumed way too much pizza this past weekend, I was in the mood for a salad. After seeing the comments and pictures from other reviewers, in combination with it having a star on the menu, I opted for the Italian Tuna Salad. It features greens, tuna, garbanzo beans, croutons, asiago cheese, and bits of pasta Then there's your choice of salad dressing: I went with Italian. My name was called shortly after and I found a seat outside the shop. Fantastic ambiance on the sidewalk. Super relaxing place to enjoy your food while people and cars pass by. The salad was seriously outstanding. Every ingredient was supremely fresh and high quality. The combination of flavors and textures was outstanding too. The portion was large and was enough for 1.5-2 meals depending on your hunger level. I'm very keen on returning to try more salads--and once I'm ready to eat carbs again--their delicious looking baked goods and sandwiches. Service was friendly to top it all off. Wow what an unassuming cute cafe that makes you feel like you've been transported to a seaside cafe in Italy! The vibes are incredibly cute and almost art deco.
