Huge line and very busy but the line actually moved reasonably quickly and once our order was placed the sandwiches were quite quick. A super cute cafe and shop! I instantly felt welcomed by the staff and even chatted with some of them while I waited for my food, which was nice and fun. Tons of fresh baked goods, homemade pastas, vegetarian dishes, and sandwiches. I tried their frittata of the day which was broccoli and cheese and it was a giant slice! They also served it with a side of honey mustard balsamic dressing, which I thought was weird at first, but the flavors actually worked well together. Really enjoyed this place! They were very busy when we popped in but our food didn't take too terribly long. We ordered two of the breakfast croissants and I'd say they were worth the wait, the croissants were delicious. My only complaint were the bees bothering us while we were sitting at their outdoor area but it was still nice they had outdoor seating. What a great little treasure in the heart of downtown St. Joseph! We recently stopped into Caffe Tosi for brunch this summer, and I wish I could have ordered every single thing on the menu! Ended up scarfing down some breakfast sandwiches inside the cafe, which is small and busy, but still easy to find a seat and enjoy the atmosphere. We dined next to men in suits having a business meeting, an adorable family with children on vacation, teenagers hanging out over baked goods and lattes, and people coming in for grab-and-go goodies. If I lived in this area, I'd be a regular! The sandwiches were delicious, and we ended up taking home some pastries and a large container of their famous minestrone soup, which they always have available in the coolers, along with many other soups and chilis. If you're spending the day at the beach, it's a hop, skip, and a jump away! And you can have the super-friendly employees pack a bag full of goodies for your friends & family to enjoy on the sunset coast! Sweet, savory, hot, cold... they do it all! Stopped in quick to check out some pastries and they were worth the trip. Tried the oat chocolate chip walnut cookie and the pear almond tart. Definitely on the pricey side with some of the treats, the tart was over $7. With that being said, they were both delicious and fresh tasting. Immediately when we got there there was a line out the door. We didn't mind waiting but just expect a line if you're going on the weekend. The place was bustling, and we were lucky to get a table. While the food was decent, I expected more out of the food given it was priced at $18 for one sandwich and a cookie. The sandwich was hot and fresh, but it was a breakfast sandwich that was just an egg on bread with up-charges for both cheese and bacon. Then, I decided to bite into the sugar cookie I got. IT WAS HARD AS A ROCK AND SO DRY. I debated not saying anything, but given that the cookie was over $4, I had to. I was very nice and explained to the person at the pickup counter that the cookie was very hard and tough to eat. While I was mid-interaction with the counter worker, the manager came up out of nowhere and got very aggressive about it. She explained that they just got the cookies in yesterday and they are just hard cookies. I like a hard sugar cookie but these were abysmal. I asked if I could get another dessert, and she agreed but limited my options and said if I didn't want one of the options she offered, she would have to charge me again. I got a different cookie, which was average at best, and when I sat back down to finish my meal, she had continue to berate and yell at customers. She was especially rude to a couple and even got in their face arguing with them. It really is sad because while all the other workers are pleasant and the food is decent, the manager ruins the environment. This year and last year on New Year's Eve we came up to Michigan for the holiday. I wasn't sure if much would be open and I was pleasantly surprised when we found Tosi. We wanted a light breakfast since we were going to be out hiking and walking dunes. We didn't want huge meal of eggs and meat and toast. This was just enough to fuel us for the day but not bog us down! We both had flat whites, and they were made very well. Hubs had a cheese danish, that was nice and flaky. Under the cheese there was pastry and it looked amazing. You see those premade "Danishes" that are mushy and the frosting peels off, this is the exact opposite. He really enjoyed it. I had oatmeal since I wanted some good fuel for our day. It was not your grandma's oatmeal cooked to mush. Went Sunday morning for a quick breakfast and Caffe Tosi did not disappoint. The 3 of us got the egg, cheese and bacon croissant. We also got the chia tea. The croissant and eggs were fluffy the bacon was crisp it was an awesome sandwich. We also got a puff pastry ham and Swiss for later and it to was great. You walk up to the counter and order and call your name out they were very quick the experience was truly remarkable. Caffe Tosi is a wonderful little spot my family has been frequenting in downtown St. Joseph for decades. My mom often came in for coffee when I was young for a moment of calm. As a group my mom, my grandma, my cousins and I would come in for lunch or a cookie when visiting Lake Michigan. The employees are super friendly and the business is very quaint. Even before the pandemic there weren't loads of tables, and now they are down a few to keep social distancing measures possible, so you may need to take your items to go. I have tried to not order the same thing twice in a row when coming here just so I can try lots of different things, and I'm happy to say I've never been disappointed. My mom and I both got a tuna based item. My mom got a tuna salad sandwich (not put in the panini press, so it was a cold sandwich) that came with a side of macaroni salad, while I got a tuna melt that came with a side of beets. My mom and I preferred each others sides so, like giggling school children, we switched sides. We both enjoyed our meals very much and they kept us energized for our shopping downtown. After seeing the comments and pictures from other reviewers, in combination with it having a star on the menu, I opted for the Italian Tuna Salad. It features greens, tuna, garbanzo beans, croutons, asiago cheese, and bits of pasta Then there's your choice of salad dressing: I went with Italian. My name was called shortly after and I found a seat outside the shop. Fantastic ambiance on the sidewalk. Super relaxing place to enjoy your food while people and cars pass by. The salad was seriously outstanding. Every ingredient was supremely fresh and high quality. The combination of flavors and textures was outstanding too. The portion was large and was enough for 1.5-2 meals depending on your hunger level. I'm very keen on returning to try more salads--and once I'm ready to eat carbs again--their delicious looking baked goods and sandwiches. Service was friendly to top it all off.
