Heard it was the oldest Belgium fries shop in Brussels so I wanted to give it a try. It was decent but I didn't it was particularly worth trying, definitely not as some of the other frites shops in the city. Orders are made fresh and each frites order comes with a sauce of your choosing. I went andalouse. The frites are a little greasy and more bland compared to others in the city. It was also one of the cheaper frites shops I've tried on my stay in Brussels. You order at the counter, wait for your food and can grab a seat inside or outdoors. They tend to draw a crowd and Ive seen very long lines but it's moves pretty quite. I came on a late rainy weekday and it was about a 15 min wait.
I had this place on my list to visit in Brussels. When my friend and I came by, we were immediately greeted with a long waiting line. Although it was decently long, we decided to stick it out. My friend and I decided to share a large portion of fries, which comes with 1 sauce. But we decided to purchase another sauce to try different things. We decided to go with andalouse & cocktail sauce. The fries come out warm and very crispy, so my first impression of Belgian frites was very positive. It's quite delicious and addicting to eat on its own. My personal favorite sauce is the andalouse - it tasted like ketchup/mayo with a herby/vinegary twist to it. I also got to try the cocktail sauce. On first impression, I didn't personally taste the whiskey as I was told it had, but I did taste something unique. It was quite interesting to say the least. I didn't mind it, but wasn't superior to andalouse (in my opinion).
This particular friterie and Friterie Tabora nearby always seem to have a line -- and for a reason! There is debate on which is the best. Having never gone to the aforementioned shop, we had a choice and it was determined by our Airbnb hosts recommendation and the absence of a line at 17:00 on a weekday. Not a tourist trap in the least. Maybe the quality diminishes during a rush, but since we went during a slow hour we received fries with superior crunch and ultimate freshness. The sauce selection was vast and a bit mind boggling. We tried to keep it consistent with the curry ketchup but the andalouse did look appealing too as it is a sauce of a Belgian past time. We were able to enjoy our fries at their benches just outside the window which they have plenty of. Excellent quality and so, so recommended! Having experienced a tourist trap earlier in our trip, we did not feel trapped in the least. My only advice is to monitor the line and go when it is least busy that way you're guaranteed a fresher product and, in addition, a more pleasant experience.
This is one of the many places you must try when in Brussels! The fries are served hot, perfectly golden and crispy! I chose the andalouse sauce for dipping and loved it's vinegary, light herb & mayo flavours. The service at the window was kind and effective. Do expect a lineup as this spot is popular amongst locals and tourists. Plenty of outdoor seating with some indoor tables too.
This spot was recommended by our Guide as one of the best if not the best for Belgian Fries. Short queue that went fast when I visited. Fries were freshly made and they stay busy enough for made to order. About 10 different sauces which was a nice touch. Curry Ketchup (sweet/vinegar) and Americaine (a bit spicy) were the ones I liked. They also have Burgers and various types of Sausage. Ordered the Viandelle . The Baguette was massive and is too big for one sausage. You get grilled onions and lettuce. Pretty good. Boudin Blanc was also tasty (sliced and without the massive roll) Service was upbeat and fast. Plenty of outdoor seating as well inside. One of the oldest Fries spot and possibly the best.
Came to Fritland per the recommendation of Belgian YouTubers, and I'm highly disappointed with it. We stopped by around 6pm on a Wednesday. The place had a serious line, but it moved fairly quickly. Our server was particularly a rockstar. We got a big order of fries, and my fiancé got a hot dog with saurkraut, mustard, ketchup, and mayo. Maybe because they double-fry their fries, I thought that Fritland's fries were the most greasy I've had during my trip. I wasn't super impressed by them either. They might as well have been like the fast-food fries from back at home. The different sauces were at least fun to try. The samurai was great. I get that Belgian fries are a must-have, but I wouldn't suggest Fritland to anyone wanting to try them. There have got to better fry spots out in the city.
Came here because a Belgian coworker recommended this place. Got the large frites with sauce and some extra sides. The guy taking my order was rushing me a bit and after he took my order, went on a smoke break and sat down right next to me. Definitely not in America anymore. There is seating inside and well as outside. No heaters outside. Also, the logo is a guy with Frits having a wee? Is this right? Lol 2/5 - frites with sauce - the curry sauce is okay, the fries alone are without salt and small but square and thick. Not a fan 2/5 - chicken strips - three pieces that were decent. Pretty basic 2/5 - coquette - not bad but not great either. It comes in a ball and they quarter it and fry it. Not sure what all the hype is. I would not recommend.
Good fries. Very long line but fries are a must in Belgium since they originate here. Ordered a small with sauce for 4 euros. No sauce is one euro less. Sauce comes on the side, and they give a large portion for the sauce and for the fries. Recommend trying if you're in Brussels! However, I didn't think the fries were amazing or much better than normal. The staff do know English as well. There's indoor and outdoor seating.
This place is right in the center of the grand place, so it has many tourists and locals alike and the queue is extremely long -- i don't think i've queued longer in any other place in belgium. The fries are solid, but not the best ones I had. They are cut a bit thick like the british style, but the sauce is really great (andalouse sauce is a Belgian specialty sauce consisting of mayonnaise, tomato paste, and peppers? similar to thousand island) and the portion is extremely huge. You can also get it in a sandwich, which I might try next time!
This place had a line infront of it and it was close to the grote market i was heading to so I stopped by. For 3.80euros, if i remember correctly, you'll get a huge "roll" of fries and some sauce. i had it with the house tartar sauce. First off, the fries were ok. I had better fries back in a Leuven restaurant actually. But it probably has something to do with the tartar sauce all over the top. If possible, ask to get the sauce separate. The way they give it to you, the sauce totally drenches the fries so it gets soggy real quick :/ All in all, it's ok - but i would try another place too. read more
Yes they serve frites... alas they remind me of the British kind of chips that you get with fish. This isn't the kind of frites associated with Belgium. These kind of chips deserve salt & malt vinegar, not the fantastic sauces that they offer. If you like chips no matter what, it's a great place. If you want to have authentic Belgium frites then this isn't the place to go. Sadly tourists line up thinking they will get a taste of Belgium are going away thinking there is nothing special. read more
Fritland was the perfect late-night spot to grab some good food. Granted, we only got the frites, but they were great! Hot, crispy, delicious, and well-priced. We opted for mayo and ketchup, but there were plenty of other sauce options. A cone was a perfect snack split between the two of us, a good portion for the price. The food came out quickly and the customer service was fine. There were other menu items, which also looked like they would be good late-night food. Fritland delivered exactly as expected! read more
Fries weren't anything special, and neither were the most popular sauces which is their house sauce and this other orange sauce (sorry forgot the name. Begins with an A I believe). Order is huge so share with someone else. I'm sure there's other places to find friets. This didn't do it for me. read more
One of the top places in Brussels to try out Frites as per lonely planet guide. It is walking distance from grand place. I stopped here in the morning before my free city tour could start. There's always a line but it moves pretty fast so don't be intimidated by it. Outdoor seating gets filled up faster than the indoor ones. This place is mostly crowded by tourists and not a lot of them know that there's option to pay inside as well. If there's no one on the inside , feel free to go in and order. First timers : Order of Frites (fries) served with sides of sauces. Lots of options to choose from. The Andolous and Samurai ( spicy) were my favorites. Curry Ketchup was also nice. The portion size is huge and the fries are thick so it's a good sharing option (as long as you can decide on the same sauces :P) Another dish to try out is the Mitraille, which is a Belgian sandwich with fries inside. This thing is a carb bomb and a great option before the walking tour so you can walk it off. I'd go here again if I were to visit Brussels and if you're visiting the city, you should try it out . Fair warning though, American made fries would never be the same again after this ! read more

One of the fast food places to eat thats close to Grand Place is Fritland. Due to its good ratings from food blogs we wanted to give this place a try especially, when one of the things to do in Brussels is to eat frites. We ordered simply their Frites. It's in a small tray but its loaded with goodness. Their Frites are thick, golden yellow, crisp and salted on the outside with soft insides, with that alone it's tasty. If that sounds boring, the fun part is choosing your flavor from 14 different sauces. I got the Moutarde, mustard in English it's a little spicy that can attack the sinuses. The other sauce is a Belgium specialty called the Andalouse, it consists of mayonnaise, peppers and tomato paste, between the two I liked this one because of its smooth, rich textures with a hint of spices. I found it funny when we were in line inside it was crowded, and I realized they were taking orders from their window facing the street with no waiting. I guess everyone wanted to enjoy these hot fries indoors when it's 30 degrees outside. Speaking of long lines inside, it was unorganized, it turned out to be a crowd outside the counter and its possible that people could cut in front of you. I would hold your ground, pay attention. Its busy and the employees may not be aware of the line order when they call who's next. You can option for the sandwich called the Mitraillette, it's frites between baguette bread. If carbs overload is your thing and want to experience their popularity, this is it. I noticed some of the guys working here speak multiple languages, so you placing orders shouldn't be an issue. They do limit you to two sauces, per frites order though. Make Fritland a definite stop when visiting the Grand Place. read more
Must do items in Belgium: Enjoy unique, fruity beer-Check See the little peeing boy-Check Dig into some of the best chocolate I've ever eaten-Check, check, triple check Have a Belgian waffle-How did I screw this up?? And finally enjoy some French fries from the country that's widely credited with inventing them-Yes Ma'am! We only had one meal here, a quick "You go get it Honey, I'll drive around the block, dive into the car while my wife pauses in heavy traffic, park illegally on an unused driveway and dig in kind of a thing". It was pretty tasty and my kids managed to spill only one large cup of ketchup on to the rental car's interior. Around here that's success! read more
Really good fries but not the best in Belgium. It is cash only! If you find yourself here make sure to try their ketchup curry. It goes really well with the mayo dipping sauce too. I saw a few people get fries with a beef stew sauce and it looked amazing. read more
Restaurant row in Brussels. There are about 5-6 restaurants with patio/sidewalk seating (European style) along the street by Fritland (pick your poison). After walking and touring around for most of the morning, we decided to stop on in for a quick lunch. Fritland: French (Belgium) fries galore! Every order comes with some sort of "frit" in it or on the side. The service is quick, there's a quick turn-around for tables and the food was decent. Service...the guy who helped me was awesome..he spoke decent English so I was able to communicate with him pretty easily. He was very helpful as well on what to order. The steak sandwich with fries and the special sauce was good! Do try the frits (fries) and if you like the "gyro" style of meats, you'll like the steak sandwich. They have a kid's menu as well. The food is affordable. I was fries-out by the time I left Belgium though....... read more

I was super excited since there are many good reviews on TripAdvisor but to be honest, I was little bit disappointed! It was good but not the best one in the city in my opinion. Customer service was great tho! The staff was trying to engage some conversation with customers which was nice to see! read more
Fries fried in animal fat. Yes, yes, yes! 3,20 euros for plain fries or 4 euros for fries with sauce (andalouse?). Sauce can be regular or spicy but most definitely pick the spicy. It's not even spicy... Maybe just a small kick. The sauce is similar to a ketchup & mayo combo. read more
3.5 stars: Okay I admit I am just not the biggest fan of thick fries, but Belgian fries are always thick. The amount they charge for a side of sauce is a bit much so we only tried the garlicky one and it didn't have much flavor. The fries itself was okay. Nothing special. At least they are crispy outside and soft inside. I thought the portion was generous too, easily shareable between two people. Cash only! read more

During our trip, we came here to try the fries after a local recommended this place and it was pretty good. We also tried the Apirio Stick-chicken legs and it was very tasty to our surprise. The meat was tender and not greasy at all. Lightly battered and seasoned just right. We ended up coming back the day before we leave Brussels for more Apirio Stick. read more

Excellent fries! Crispy on the outside while warm and fluffy on the inside. You can see the excellent crunch will happen as the surface of the fry has all those bubbles and crags. Also, eat the fries plain before you try the different sauces. The plain fry itself has a savory umami to it probably due to the blend of fry oils. My guess is there's probably some beef tallow. The potato itself has a nice aromatic taste to it too. I can almost eat the fry plain, its so good. Sauce portions are fairly generous compared to other places. I wanted to just try 2 suaces, so they split by sauce container and didnt charge me for two. read more
a lot of restaurants close early in Brussels. When you don't want McDonalds, Fritland is a good alternative. I got their frits with pita sauce, and it was bomb! The Belgiums invented the fries and they make them really well. Lots of dipping sauces to choose from. Crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside. Absolutely delicious. read more

Not the best frites in Brussels, but possibly the best near Grand Place. Consistently crispy and flavorful, and they have all the sauces you want. Slight premium over trucks across town, but location makes sense. read more

We got off the Eurostar, got a metro to Central and hoped to find some decent frites. We ordered two portions at Fritland, and they were definitely tasty and very quick. Nice to sit outside, and a load of sauce options. Surprisingly, I couldn't even finish my portion, and barely had an appetite for hours, they were really filling. Tasty chips, A-OK textbook definition, worth stopping by if you're nearby and hungry. read more
Oooooh Fritland, fritland, you glorious french fry heaven. I never knew french fries could be lifted into a cult like passion (well, I mean even more then they normally are). Fritland takes their famous dutch style fries and places them in a soft fluffy bagette on top of two breakfast style round meat patties, some crunchy tangy slaw then drowns the entire thing with spicy mayo sauce and voila; a fry sandwich that will change your life! This place always had a line up, but it moves fast and is totally worth it. Pro Tip: Skip the cone of fries and get the sandwich. Bigger pro tip: Do not try to eat the sandwich on your own, share it with whoever you are in line with! Happy carb-o loading!! read more

Fries are crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. Hot and fresh. Very very good fries. The house sauce is delicious. The staff is so nice. They gave my kids some toys to take home. Competition price in comparison to other shops too. Highly recommended! read more
I mean, I'm glad we came but they were really just OK. The line was about halfway across the street (actually not too bad; I've heard it can go out and around the Stock Exchange building) and took about 10 minutes to get through. The fries definitely had an above average flavour (because they're cooked in lard; veggies beware), but were still just the fat-style chips common in the UK - the kind that tend to be floppy and soggy versus crispy. What's the deal? I always pictures "frites" to be smaller and crispier?! I went for the mayo sauce (only two sauces are offered without an extra charge) per the euro style and, while I am actually one of those terrible people who LIKE dipping my fries in mayo, I found it to have that off, slightly zingy flavour I associate with light or off-brand mayo. Also, there was A LOT of it blobbed on top, that I kept eating around until there was about a quarter of them left, but they were so mayo drenched I just tossed them as I couldn't stomach anymore. One order can definitely be shared, as long as your husband isn't a hangry, 2-beers-deep frites monster who hates mayo DO NOT order anything else here. Besides chocolate and waffles, Belgium is known for their fries! In fact, they claim to have invented fries (not the French!). So Belgian cut fries, which are thick cut, on a cone, smothered in sauce, is a must-eat in Brussels. There are a bunch of places that serve Belgian fries in a cornet, but I decided on Fritland because how fun is that. It sounds like an amusement park of just fries. And the line was long too - this place was hopping. Ordering is a bit chaotic and a bit of a mess but there are a bunch of guys taking orders. It's confusing because you can order outside and inside, but no one knew that, so everyone was just ordering from outside. I ordered the fries with andalouse sauce. Andalouse sauce is a Belgian sauce that's made with mayo, tomato sauce and peppers. It is very good and flavorful (not spicy). The guy who made my cornet put on a very generous amount of Andalouse sauce on the top over my fries. The sauce was so tasty and so were the fries! Cooked perfectly - crispy on the outside and the inside was like both firm but not too firm at the same time. They have some indoor seating and plenty of outdoor seating, but it's more fun to take the cornet of fries to eat at Grand Place, which is't too far away. The cornet is huge too. I couldn't finish all of my fries, which was sad. read more

Since the nearest decent alternative was was closed due to renovations to the building, I decided to give Fritland another shot. I wish I hadn't... When I'm going to a chips shop for dinner -- and not just for a snack -- I usually have a 'mitraillette' (French bread with some kind of meat, chips and often some salad), so this time I ordered one as well, with a hamburger as choice my of meat. They asked if I wanted onions with that, and -- not expecting that option -- I told them to go ahead. I know I like my chips to be a bit more crispy than a lot of Belgians do, but the soggy stumps I found on my bread were even worse than I remembered... The overcooked onions didn't really help of course, and neither did the salad, which seemed past its prime as well. Considering the fact that it is even a bit more expensive here than some better places nearby, Im not likely return here anytime soon. Well, not sober at least... read more

Eén van de bekendste frietkoten in het centrum, vind je hier! Het frietkot was vroeger een onopvallend klein kotje en hierbij kan je 'kotje' heel letterlijk nemen. Ik weet nog dat de hele straat er toen nog bijzonder vuil bij lag, alles was, om het op zijn Brussels te zeggen 'bric-à-brac'. Ook al was dit het geval, 's avonds laat en 's nachts stonden er nog rijen mensen te wachten op hun mitraillette, hamburger of hun pak friet. En dat is gebleven! De ruimte is nu op zijn minst 20 keer vergroot en het trekt een enorm pak toeristen aan. Ze hebben er zelfs een terras. Ik vind het altijd een pluspunt als je je frietjes meekrijgt in een puntzak, een appetijtelijke verpakking voor een vettig goedje... read more
A must try in Brussels, apparently, for their fries and sauces (the samouraï was my favorite one ) the service is attentive and the fries were like i imagined (soggy with a flavourul taste) They do have also a range of sandwiches ( especially if you are very hungry, not picky, and if you are not bothered with low food quality) They have a sitting area inside and a large space in front. Note that they are open after 12am which makes it a late night food option around the Grand place area. read more
