We were planning to stop by the Grand Place after a morning at a museum, and my daughter located this place for lunch. It was advertised as a traditional Belgian dish (a large meatball). They opened at 12:15 p.m. and are located a couple of blocks off the Grand Place one some the narrow streets lined with restaurants and shops.
You enter and proceed past a drinks cooler to the order counter. You order here and then they bring out the dish to your table when its ready. I think you can choose from (at least) beef, chicken, or vegetarian for your meatball (about the size of a small fist). Then there are several sauces you can opt for - cheese, fruit-based, etc. I had the beef with fruit-based sauce, which I quite liked. I think there was a combo deal where you could also choose a side. I had the Belgian fries, which were also good. I think they had beers, sodas, and water as drink options, but we all had our own water.
The dining area has some long tables that probably seat about 10 (or sub-sets) as well as a few smaller tables for 4. They also appeared to have a sort of balcony / loft with more tables, but we did not venture up there. We were the 2nd table after they opened, but the place was soon nearly full. They may have had a couple of tables out front too, but it was threatening rain so if they did no one was using them.
This place was a change of pace from other meals we had, and I liked it. I'd consider another meal here if I were back in central Brussels. read more
