Great Nicaraguan food, great service and quick. I'm from Cuban decent, so to be fair I'll just say that I naturally compare this food and the way it was prepared to that of one of my childhood friends family. His grandparents had a get together every weekend with food from Nicaragua. The food at this restaurant is almost as good as their home cooked meals. The menu is not a consistent one. Everyday they change it around. You can order like a cantina aswell ahead of time and pick it up every day. They have great deserts and unique tasting sodas you won't find everywhere else. The eating area here is tiny. You might opt to take the food home to enjoy it better rather than having someone's butt rubbing up against your table as they're picking what they'll buy. read more

Beware. I've been coming here for years. This past Sunday I stopped in and picked up a couple of "carne asada completas" and a naca tamal. Got home and the family ate. Those of us that had the tamal have had a fever, diarrea, muscle pain and severe dehydration. Ended up in the urgent care and it's possible ecoli. This is one of the better frita gas in the area. My family who is very picky only eats from this one. Some things to know before going: -- Afritanga is kind of like a food by the pound place; you don't eat it there, you take it to go. It's Nicaraguan street food (not restaurant food, see recs below), like fast food but better because it's real meat. -- This isn't an American venue, so go in like you're stepping into a small town Latin American corner market. It's not fancy, they won't bend over backwards for you to adjust to your taste buds and preferences: there is what there is, take it nor leave it. --Carne asada isn't prime beef cuts, if you want a baby churrasco or a filet mignon try going to El Novillo or El Madroño. --The menu rotates daily. Call ahead to see what they have that and how much it will be. Favorites: -- Canelones: pasta tubes filled with chicken and a unique tomato sauce. You find this anywhere else. It's heavenly. A gift from the Italian immigrants in Nicaragua, modified to Nicaraguan seasoning. -- Arroz a La Valenciana: it's their version of arroz con pollo (chicken and rice). Similar to the idea of Cubans arroz imperial but without the mayo, cheese and extra cholesterol. This one has sausage in addition to chicken and vegetables, a cousin of the rice dishes found in Valencia Spain. (8.26 for just the rice on my last visit May 2023) -- Manuelita: a crumbled dry cheese and cinnamon -sugar filled crepe. Thick pancake batter is not overly sweet. It's mildly salty sweet. -- Cacao; a sweet milk drink amde with cacao (from where chocolate comes from) mixed with cinnamon. Best CACAO in Miami right here. -Rice Pudding. Need I say more? --Pio Quinto: custard topped rum cake. --Cola Shaler; Nicaraguan soda which originated in England. Tastes like Vanilla Coke but not as overly sweet as Coca Cola. --Nacatamales: loaded tamales similar to Venezuelan Hallacas, with pork rice potatoes Samantha Brown of the Travel show said it was like unwrapping a gift, little meal in a banana leaf. read more

This place used to be so, so good. We have been coming here for over 10 years but the last times were beyond disappointing. The carne assada now is extremely small and the quality just not the same, with tons of fat and nerves. The last three times we ordered, including today, they give you one decent and one terrible piece of meat. After a decade, it's time to look for another Fritanga. Gallo Pinto (Rice & Red Beans) were old and some of the rice was crunchy and the red beans were brunt on one side. As soon as I heard the hard rice hit the container, I knew it was old rice and should have walked out of the place. I am never buying food here again. Rice & Beans are the cheapest ingredients for a restaurant to make daily and very dangerous to consumers to eat OLD RICE. Reheated rice must be refrigerated before it cools down, stored in a cold refrigerator and only good for 24 hours. The health department should give pay them a visit, God knows what else they are doing wrong. read more

Just ok. Food and customer service both were just ok. Prices are rather high for what you're getting. Not much else to say really. I'm used to not getting hot food from fritangas. The food here is "okay" at best. The more disappointing issue is that they have noticeably raised their prices significantly over the past 2 years. When I first started coming here about 2 1/2 years ago, what it known as a "completa", which consists of gallopinto, a side, and a protein used to be a little over $8.00, with a fried cheese included. Meat smells like manure. Something changed. I was a faithful customer for more than 15 yrs however for the past 2 months the meat is not edible. It's not good. It literally smells like manure. First review of the year, and starting off with a "this place is fine" kind of review. Craving a completa, I made my way over here because my regular fritanga place is too far. I loved how fast and friendly the service was. If you come here, skip the carne asada, though. Order the chicken instead. Carne asada tasted...well...not so great. I am so disappointed with this restaurant. I use to love it. But I just ordered from it for the first time in a while and I cannot believe how they've changed. First of all the portions are smaller- especially for a meal that costs $10. Secondly, the cuts of steak (carne asada) are super thin! Nothing like they were before! So thinner meat, smaller portions. I understand restaurants suffered during covid shutdowns and are trying to recover, but do something else. This was my favorite place. But my wife went tonight and it was horrible. The lady was talking wasn't paying attention. We order 2 complete carne asada orders and a vigoroso thats yuca w chicharrones. The only put one little tiny hot sauce in the bag , plus no utensils no napkins no chimichurri nothing . The worst was the meat , my wife said she went out of her way to look for the smallest pieces . Usually we have leftover for the next day and today we have a six ounce piece each really ?!?? One of my favorite Nicaraguan spots in Kendall! If you're looking for tasty and fast Nicaraguan food I recommend a stop to Fritanga Montelimar. They offer a rotating menu so you have to ask what days they have certain specials. My favorite is the Pollo en salsa de jalapeño over some white rice Today I stopped in and got some pollo asado, fried cheese, with gallo pinto (rice and beans), and slaw salad which I absolutely love. Don't be alarmed when your slaw is served to you in a little baggy, it's customary. This is reminiscent of a Cuban cafeteria or food by the pound. It it's by no means a fancy outing for dinner, but definitely delicious! read more

This is the best fritanga in Kendall/West Kendall area. Al the other fritangas don't take the skin off the plantain for the Tajadas. Here they do! And they're delicious! The ladies are very nice and helpful! The only problem a see is that they don't have any tables to dine in. read more

Andrew Zimmern brought me here. I was quite excited. It is cafeteria style. I got the congri, maduros, chicharron, and fajita meat. The congri was good. The chicharron wasn't the best I've had but still good. Overall the place was okay. Nothing fancy. I don't think I'll be going back though. Nothing too memorable. read more

Family night had to include our favorite food so we went to one of our nearest Fritanga and the result was mediocre. We tried 3 different platters: 1. Carne Asada, Gallopinto, Maduros y Cacao 2. Tajadas con Queso y Milka 3. Maduros con Queso y Cacao 1. Meat was delicious- no, really. It kicked bootay. Maduros were huge and they serve a lot. Cacao in taste I've had better. Now, the gallopinto. Terrible. Horrible. Shouldn't even be serving that. The rice was hard and the beans weren't even cooked the whole way. Can someone say gross?! So basically it was uncooked beans and hard rice. Ew. 2. Amaze-balls. 3. Great- except the Cacao as previously noted. Trash. Garbage, wack a** customer service. I asked them to cut the meat for a child. They said they could not in rudest way possible almost like they had no tools to cut food in full kitchen and it was against the law or their religion to cut meat. The only good thing about this place is that it was near a Publix, and I got saved by a chicken tenders sub. There's a trash can as soon as you walk out the place, do yourself a favor and place anything you buy from this trashy, dry chicken, no meat cutting, hot a** soda, cold a** rice place out!! read more

I was there today to buy some nacatamales for breakfast, so they supposed to be hot and ready to eat, when I got home they were cold, it is not the same to warm it in the microwave, it needs to be boiled again which takes to long for breakfast, I complained, Matias answered the phone, so nice apologizing, of course no solution. I frequent this location but today was the last time. The "tajadas" tasted like cardboard and when I brought it to their attention they were unapologetic and didn't care. Carne asada, maduros, y gallo pinto. Y tal vez queso. That is a common Nicaraguan plate of food. Luckily, you can get this meal for under $10. It's filling and rice and beans are a staple of Latin American and Caribbean countries. This fritanga (think fast Nicaraguan cafeteria) is a comfortable one. Fast, clean, service can be hit or miss but more often it's a hit. They also carry Nicaraguan Coca Cola and so of course I had to have some... just say no. What these people had looked much like the chicharoones de aire sold at publix, there was zero meat on them. Don't usually eat gallo pinto from all the amounts of rice and beans I have eaten in my life, but it's great here! Carne asada (grilled steak), queso frito (fried cheese) and maduros (sweet plantains)! Yum! Carne desmenuzada (shredded beef) is so good here! Can't go wrong with cacao too, if you can fit it all in.
