Warm and casual explosion of great flavors! The plain white exterior and demure signage is matched inside by counter service and plain white picnic tables. Super low key, tropical casual. But not the food. Every item, every bite is cool, different, and delicious. The chorizo burger (and my crew also enjoyed beef, chicken, and bean/veg) was good, with great toppings like a fried egg and avocado spread. Soooooo messy, but worth it! Twice fried plantains are one of my favorites (tortones) as a side, and the garlic cilantro fries were incredible. (I'm not a fry guy. These knocked my socks off.) The sauces with the fritas (burgers) and sides were such great compliments to the flavors. And hard to believe with the food being that good, the Batidos (tropical milkshakes) outshined them. 3 of us all choose passion fruit (and passed on the optional Meyers Rum). Spectacular! Lunch for a family of 4 cost me about $80 with shakes and sides, but so worth it. read more

What a great place! I came to Frita's with my sister and 2 nieces - ages 8&6. We were warmly greeted by the staff and were able to place an order within 5 minutes. I ordered the seasonal pork sandwich with Asian coleslaw and WOW!! I lived in the South for 8 years and never once did I have pulled pork as good as what I had! The staff was all very friendly in their interactions with customers and seem to love working at Frita's. Prices/serving sizes are going to be what holds Frita's from 5 stars. My sandwich was amazing but had no sides and cost $10. I also had a margarita which was tiny considering the $7 price tag. I get that Frita's is right downtown but think prices are steep. Overall - I'd recommend Frita's but will have to warn of the prices. read more

Arrived an hour before close on a Tuesday evening - the dim lights created a romantic mood, with picnic tables and only a few patrons. Ordered 2 batidos (milkshakes) - the chocolate batido was perfectly cinnamon. The coconut batido was creamy and had bits of shaved coconut, but not really worth $5.30 in my opinion. The hour before closing, the happy hour menu is available. I ordered the beef hamburger, which is served medium unless you ask otherwise. Served with a few French fries, it's a delicious meal for $5! The garlic fries were burnt and the fries were the small broken ones, but we still ate them. Will definitely return for churros. read more

Very good. Line can be long and can be hard to find a seat, but it is definitely worth it! The chorizo frita and lighter batido were the perfect meal! read more

The granddaughters, all UM students scattered throughout the campus, had said earlier to us, "When you come to see us in Ann Arbor this restaurant is the one you must stop at first, even before you see us, because we will be quizzing you later." So, arriving in Ann Arbor we went. At lunchtime on a Friday. That was really smart. The place was packed. But the ordering process seemed efficient, and we took our drinks (mango juice, diet cola) and found our spot at a picnic table. I ordered a chorizo frita, double, with cole slaw (called a "tropical slaw"); my girl got a beef frita, single, with cole slaw. The menu is varied and broad but we wanted to walk out of there feeling satiated, not in pain. Where there is an empty place at a picnic table, that's where you sit. You will have neighbors. I suspect there is a pretty good assembly process for the fritas in the back, because two runners carrying sacks of take out and eat in baskets came out the kitchen at a pretty good clip. We enjoyed our fritas considerably and ate them completely. I was very impressed with the bite of the two chorizo patties. My girl thought her protein was satisfactorily seasoned. The aesthetics of presentation is not a priority when it comes to making fritas. The fritas are big piles of yumminess. Afterwards, watching a quartet eating and playing dominoes seated next to us at the same picnic table, and seeing they used utensils, we decided we would use forks and knives next time. The food oozed chili mayo and meat juice and cole slaw, and we used a pile of napkins. The restaurant claims to use a soft egg bun on their fritas. Our impression was that the bun is too delicate to hold up to the heft of the protein and accompaniments. The drinks were drinks and no more. The fries added to the fritas were a throwaway. The staff was exceptional considering the furor of the lunch hour. The two gender neutral bathrooms were clean. We didn't find the prices out of line for Ann Arbor ($29 for the two of us). The place seems popular with Millennials, and I expect we were the oldest people there. But we were treated well. The noise level, however, can be astounding. This is not a place for a subdued meal with quiet conversation. But we'll be back to sample other parts of the menu. read more

This has been one of my A2 Faves since its inception in 2012. Attention foodies: this is the move! Thank you for reinforcing my faith in the local food scene. The ambiance is very hip and modern, with a special twist on Cuban inspired street food. There are myriad combinations available here for extensive experimentation. You really can't go wrong. The formula for success: a frita( Cuban burger)+batido( Cuban milkshake) or sangria+ side= absolute culinary heaven. Go with the loco beef frita, coconut cream batido or sangria, and either the twice fried ripe plantains or seasonal conch fritters. The only difficulty is that due to the popularity, Seating will be a challenge. The communal tables put you in close quarters with strangers, allowing no privacy. Fortunately, everyone is so enamored with the food, that they will be happy to squeeze you in at the table. As a charming consolation, there are dominoes at each table, so try your luck. There are great discounts offered at happy hour and late at night, when the dim lighting adds a romantic flair. read more

I love love LOVE Frita Batidos. So yummy & delicious. It also feels more nutritious than other burger places (if it's not, I don't want to know). All the sandwiches (fritas) come with fries on them, unless you get it "on the lighter side" which has lettuce instead of a bun and no fries. The batidos (fruity milkshakes/smoothies) are super yummy as well! There are so many potential combinations that their menu can be a little overwhelming. I always get the black bean frita with Muenster and tropical slaw - it's like heaven in your mouth. I typically pair that with a batido, sometimes with alcohol. Currently, my favorite is the "lighter" batido. The fries are also delicious, however the serving sizes are usually too large for me to need anything other than the frita and a batido. The only negative about this place is the price. My fiancé and I went and got two fritas (with 2 toppings each), a batido, and a beer and it was $34 with tax before tip; a little steep for a burger joint but it's so good I don't even care. 100% recommend checking this place out! Wear stretchy pants because you'll be incredibly full when you leave. read more

Amazing food every time. Music is loud but that's the environment, just know what to expect. The service is friendly and on point.

A friend recommended Frita for non-authentic Cuban-inspired comfort food and it did not disappoint. The lines on a THU night were short, but the space was packed. Luckily, dinners rotate out in a timely manner and I scored two counter seats within a 10m wait around 9P. My friend and I shared a chorizo frita, garlic cilantro (GC) fries, and a churro. Maybe if we did not eat earlier in the day, we would have been brave enough to get a frita each. I firmly believe the fries are not meant for individual consumption--I think my photo speaks for itself. The chorizo frita with no toppings has a nice mild kick. The meat falls apart (somewhat flakier than pulled pork texture) though this may have partially been due to our request to have the burger cut in half. The bun was wonderfully spongy and absorptive. Of course I shamelessly dipped it in the GC fries oil. The GC fries arrived in a greasy puddle sprinkled with chopped cilantro and scallion-infused sour cream (or something of that nature). My friend mentioned it's doused in olive oil but I did not remember to confirm with the staff. Considering I ate more than my fair share of the fries and dip and did not experience the tacky oil-coated finish in my palate as results from overindulging in movie popcorn with mystery butter, I'm inclined to believe it was olive oil. Fries are a mix of crispy and somewhat soggy and meant to be consumed quickly. Not ideal texture, but the perfectly balanced seasoning more than makes up for that shortcoming. The churro is a giant monstrosity of fried dough covered in cinnamon sugar. Since it's so thick, it's internal texture is much closer to a zeppole than a churro. Still satisfying but I suggest scraping off the sugar coating. Great prices for quality comfort food for occasional indulgence. Takes a bit of mental fortitude to overlook the oil at first. read more

Great food, fresh and creative. Love the Fish Frita! There's often a line, but it moves quickly.

Quick ordering. And staff came to you when order was ready and super delicious. I would recommend to anyone.

Amazing food, me and wife got the incredible Cuban with the greatest snack ever and pulled pork sandwich with fries. Don't forget to get their batidos (tropical shake), it's part of the experience. Great service and it's pretty quick. Because of some confusion between us we didn't get the fries but they gave it to us for free anyway. read more

It's been a while since my last visit, since my last visit looks like they changed the menu... the pork burger is no longer there.... this time I decided to go with 'Inspired Cuban' and loaded 'plantains', long with ginger lime drink... total cost $28. Inspired Cuban - while they don't give you much, the sandwich packs a lot of flavors! The cheese was excellent, the thick cut bacon just makes this sandwich awesome!! For $12 though, it's pricy... I wish they would either lower the price or give you more :) Loaded Plantains - for $11, it's a waste of money... they only give you three plantains, and loaded with tons of fatty delicious items... but in reality, I think this dish is really work like $7! Ginger Lime Drink - very gingery... and for $6 for like 8 oz in a plastic bag... well, just drink the water... if you love ginger taste, then this is a drink for you. Overall, they have some good foods, but very pricy... it's not a place to go on a regular basis, maybe once in a while... service can get little hectic, as when they bring you the food, they will call out your name... seating is as it comes, mostly shared amongst strangers... they do have couple tables outside... street parking. read more

This was my first time trying cuban inspired food! Anyone who can relate to me and not sure what to order, hope my review helps! They have a simple menu. You have to pick your Frita(a cuban burger) with your fav meat and any additional topings you like! A batido is a milkshake and then they have their sides. I ordered a chicken frita with cilantro lime salsa, it also comes with fries in your burger. The burger tasted really good and unique but its a lot of messy to eat. I also tried their hibiscus soda - very refreshing. And the garlic cilantro fries which come with sour cream - has flavors but soggy and oily. :/ A cuban combo comes with a flat bread burger and their salad which has cheese, beans and salsa was yum! If you would like to try something different you could stop by this place! You wont be disappointed. read more

Good service and great food! However it's always busy space is good but make sure to get there early.

Here are the basics: It's pricey It tastes good it's unique I have such mixed feelings about FB. The food is good for the most part. Huge burgers that are hard to pick up, but they are juicy and the toppings are unique. I always think I want the chorizo burger when I go, so I get it, and then I'm disappointed I didn't get the beef when inevitably have a bite of someone's. There is something off about the texture and the flavor of the chorizo. The fries are inconsistent. They are sometimes really fresh and crispy, but sometimes they are soggy, which is a shame. At the price point, I want them to pay better attention to the fries. The batidos are the best thing on the menu. They aren't huge, but they are so good. I usually get the coconut, and it's always good. One of the best shake-like things I know of -- creamy, rich, smooth, with just the tiniest bits of coconut in there. The batidos take this place from 2 or 3 up to 4 stars. Even though I'm not in love with the food, and I get a stomach ache after I eat here fairly often (just because of all the grease), and I feel like I'm getting robbed when I go to pay, I still go several times a year as a local. The batidos just keep calling my name. read more

I would call this fast food with a flare. I went with the lady friend and we got the chorizo sandwich and fish sandwich (sandwiches are called fritas). We were pretty hungry, and those greasy fritas hit the spot--both were pretty tasty but nothing to write home about (though clearly something to write a Yelp review about ). Sandwiches were $12 for a double party, so not outrageous but also not cheap for something in the ballpark of fast food. We did see other people eating the garlic/cilantro fries which looked good, and the shakes ("batidos") also looked good. So we'll probably go back to try those, but in the mean time if I need a double patty I'll hit up Wendy's. read more

Now I can only claim to have ever ordered the churro, and sangria here. But for the biggest, beautifully flavored churro alone they were a winner for me. Staff has been lovely and the light atmosphere is inviting. Will 100% be back again to try the rest of the menu! read more

A unique burger experience. I got the chorizo - still yummy with a kick (not sure if it was the chorizo or the sweet chili mayo). The egg bun compliments it perfectly. I added an egg because what makes a burger even better? A runny egg. The garlic fries are also yummy with the dipping sauce. A large is more than enough for two. The seating is cafeteria style - open with water & cups & napkins on the table. You order at the counter and then pick your seat. Very casual. I'd recommend and will be back if I ever find myself in the area. read more

It's honestly somewhat difficult to write reviews when I'm just eating the food at home that someone else brought back and I personally haven't even seen the restaurant. But I'm gonna do my best. We ordered the Chorizo burger and the Cubano inspired sandwich. Both of which came with large portions. We split the two between us, and I was pretty full on just my half of the chorizo burger. I ate the Cubano later for dinner and even cold, it was pretty good. The chorizo is definitely very crumbly. I ended up eating it as a deconstructed burger with a fork. It was also super salty si have a watermelob mojito (or whatever floats your boat) at the ready. The cubano had really thick bread so my partner didn't like the bread to innards ratio. I still thought the flavoring was awesome! Apparently the line was pretty long, so I'm sure they're quite popular. Would recommend! read more

So delicious!! My friend goes to school in Ann Arbor and has been trying to take me here for the last couple of years. Plans always fell through, but we finally made it!! The atmosphere is so cute. You walked up to the counter and place your order (the menu and options are super expansive, something for everyone!!). The seating is first come, first serve and the tables are picnic tables which is honestly super awesome. I ordered a hibiscus batido (which is like a fruity milkshake) and it was so delicious! Super refreshing and sweet. I also ordered the chicken Frita with cheese and avocado spread. I will say that the prices seem a little shocking, but once you get the food you understand. It's a huge portion and such great quality. The service is also spectacular!! The one thing I did notice was that it is not handicap accessible, so hopefully they can fix that in the future!! Everyone should be able to enjoy this great restaurant! Definitely recommend overall!! read more

Absolutely amazing black bean burger. Did the "make it loco" toppings. One of the best BB burgers I've ever had.

Stopped in for lunch and had a great chortizo frita and the service was great. Batidos are really good too.

Please get the coconut batido. It was perfectly sweet and refreshing. They have excellent fries along with a surprisingly good fish frita

The food is amazing. Will have to visit Ann Arbor more often. Frita was the best burger ever. Batidos may have been the best thing I've drank. Service was fast and polite. Busy the whole time we were there. read more

I have an unpopular opinion when it comes to Frita Batidos, so I apologize in advance. I really wish I liked it more, because it's one of the closest walking-distance businesses to my house. But the food is just not good. The burgers are meh, the fries are good, and the churros are just straight up awful. I can't go to a place just because the fries are good. They're not even great, just good. The churros were what sealed the deal for me not coming back, though. After a very average meal, I was hoping to leave on a good note with dessert. But first of all, they're HUGE. Like, grossly huge. The size of my forearm huge. Cut the price in half and cut the size of each churro in half and you'll be getting much more authentic (unless only Cuba has giant churros...?) And they're also orange flavored, which was gross. I love both Latin American and Spanish churros, but adding orange to them is not right. If these are what churros are like in Cuba, I am not interested. read more

The person at the register was quite snippy. I asked what the "Avocado Spread" was, and his response was "a spread made out of avocados." That's fine. It was basically guacamole. But the burger was so delicious. I got the beef frita with tropical slaw and an over medium egg. It was happy hour so it was only $5! My only complaint with the burger is that the added fries did nothing for me. They didn't add any taste, just volume (and calories), which made it even harder to eat. The garlic fries were amazing as well. So flavorful and crispy. The burger is SO messy to eat. And the regular prices a bit steep. My friend got a double chorizo (not included in the happy hour menu), fries, and a batido. His bill was $25! Not including tip! read more

HOLLY MOLY. SO GOOD. I'm not a fast food person. Not a huge fan of burgers at all and probs have one every half year. But OMG FRITA BATIDOS. I can eat the burgers here every single day. Not just the burgers. The smoothies too. The coconut one is a bit too sweet but very addictive. I'd order one to share with my friend for sure. The fries themselves are just okay for me. The churros, on the other hand, blow my mind away. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!!! OH MAN. TWO WORDS. FRITA BATIDOS. read more

I have been going here since they opened in AA and were in the second room that now hosts their "overflow" seating and bar. Worked downtown for years and an after shift snack at Frita Batidos was frequently a must! I recommend them to everyone who visits AA because I love the food and the service has always been top-notch. However, I was disappointed when we visited recently. My husband was standing with me in line holding our 18 month old. When I was next in line to order, he went to sit down with her at an open spot since she was getting a bit fussy in his arms. A server immediately came over and told him: "If you haven't ordered yet you can't sit down". He explained I was up at the counter, but was told it didn't matter. I understand seating is at a premium, and loiterers can be a detriment to a business on a busy weekend. Frita's dining is not necessarily geared towards people with little kids, but we've brought our daughter several times and have always been welcomed and provided with a high chair. I just wish the server had shown a bit more understanding to my husband who was doing his best to juggle a toddler while we ordered food. read more

DELICIOUS! Busy place for a good reason. Food is best eaten dine-in (take out makes the fries soggy). I'm vegetarian but my partner isn't. We both love our meals. This is a must stop in Ann Arbor. The choices are extensive and the food is delicious. As expected, the food is on the heavy side, so do not expect a lite meal here. The lines can get very long, and you cannot sit at a table until you have ordered. Thus, plan for that. This is definitely a must stop on the Ann Arbor food tour :). A place I never knew I needed to be. Judge me silently but I've never been a huge fan of burgers and never go out of my way to get one, but once I started branching into places that weren't fast food, I started craving burgers more. And Frida Batidos did what it was suppose to do, satisfy me. I did some research and it seemed like this was the place to be with its Cuban inspired street food and I am sad that I wasn't there long enough to try more of their menu because everything sounded delicious. There are many options for burgers, tropical smoothies and sides. My favorite so far is their beef frita added with an egg and some muenster cheese and it's kind of a messy burger but it's art for your mouth. I also love their fried plantains and it has this weird kind of garlic-y, banana flavor to it, but honestly, I ate all of it. Don't forget your batido in any sort of tropical flavor they have, it's pretty good. This restaurant is in a busy area so most likely you'll be paying for parking if you're driving. Someone with a show about burgers--or was a blog?--listed Cuban-inspired Frita Batidos one of the ten best burgers in the US, so it must be good. That said, my chorizo frita (topped with shoestring fries, egg, and tropical slaw) WAS very good, as were the tostones (twice-fried plaintains, for which I am a sucker). Small things I would change: more social media-friendly lighting (had to take picture with smartphone flashlight on left, camera on right); lower-profile trays for a better cross-section look of the burger. But overall, very good food, slightly expensive, will still come again. read more
