For our Friday Night Welcome Party we did the "Make-It-Yourself Sandwich Bar" with Salsa Verde chicken, pulled pork, Best Snack Ever, and mini churros. Awesome place to eat! We came to AA for the first time to see our Utes play and asked a few people where we should eat. We were told by multiple people to check out Frita Batidos so in glad we checked it out. Don't let the long line deter you. It moves fairly quickly. We got a beef frita, loco style, which was basically like a guacamole burger. We also got a Cuban sandwich bc I heard about the thick cut bacon. And we got the 'best snack in the world' (I think that's what it was called, with coconut rice, beans, melted cheese, tomatoes. And the Batidos are fantastic. Mmmm... Great service. I'm still a fan of this place! Came here for lunch and was surprised that 1). There was no ridiculous line or lunch rush as I've see in the past (and a reason why I've avoided coming here for lunch in the past) and 2). We had a place to sit inside! I'm so glad I went to Frita Batidos! This restaurant transported me to Cuba! The food was unbelievable and the service was outstanding. If you're looking for a local causal and trendy restaurant this place is perfect. However, I have tried to go on the weekends multiple times and there has been two hour waits. This place is amazing! I don't know why I didn't write a review while attending the University of Michigan but better now then never. I recently went here on one of my visits back to AA. I was concerned about going here because of COVID and in the past I know it's always super crowded inside but they did a good job. The inside is closed and they have the seating outside now with a lot of space in between the tables. The food is still amazing. The beef Frida is my favorite with the bacon added. The fries are fresh and taste so good. Lastly my favorite drink is the passion fruit batido. Honestly everything on their menu is good. I recommend this to everyone. read more

This is my favorite restaurant. I've been here three times, and every time I've gone, I've loved not only their service, but their food as well. I went today as a pick me up. It was very busy, but the line moved quickly along. Their service is always super friendly, also suggesting an item or two to customers before us. My husband ordered a pulled pork with no mayonaise, and I got a cuban. We ordered the garlic cilantro fries to share. When the order came out, the server said that there was no mayo, but then stated that the cole slaw has mayo, so he took the tray back and remade my husband's sandwich immediately and without a comment from my husband. (he doesn't eat cole slaw, and didn't know that the cole slaw comes on top of the sandwich) It was our fault, but remade promptly anyway. It's busy and small, but it's totally worth visiting. I'll go back sometime later in the evening to get a mojito or beer to go with my food in the very near future. read more

This place has excellent burgers. I really like the chorizo frita. The fritas come with fries inside and run $8 a pop + the price of whatever toppings you want. Those little things are very GERD (heartburn) inducing just FYI. The fries are crisp and good -- try the garlic cilantro ones. The fried plantains are okay. The ginger lime juice is tasty and comes in a plastic bag, which is unique. The alcoholic drinks are just okay. They are pretty small, but have enough liquor in them. A small plastic cup of Sangria is like $8. It's pretty expensive. I wouldn't recommend getting alcohol here. Batidos are a unique drink, so you should try it once and see how you like it. Usually get a regular LOADED Plantain.-it's smothered in cheese, tastes great etc. Got a large and the cheese is not even covering , just spotty and the amount of black beans was definitely not more than a regular. usually can't finish a regular so ordered large to have two days of meals. .it was definitely portioned incorrectly cuz i did not have enough for 2 servings. This is why we measure food to hit food cost and determine sales price while giving customer some consistency to meet their expectations. But being so tasty and unique can lead to long lines, so try coming during there 2-5 pm window and your order will come out quickly! Building a burger can't get much better than doing it here. I recently opted for the chorizo patty with bacon, slaw and fresh jalapeños... and, of course, the fries!!! It was phenomenal, a truly special burger you can't get anywhere else. Also split a side of the loaded plantains and they were delish, I could just order that and be satisfied. Great burgers and great shakes. I've come here a few times now, since I'm in the area for business often and I've always enjoyed it. It's a Cuban-influenced burger joint and very tasty. I say "influenced" because it's definitely not your traditional Cuban fare. It's definitely a burger joint with I guess, Cuban-fusion themed burgers? Idk...anyway, I usually get the chorizo burger, i keep forgetting what it's called, with an egg, and i don't really like straying from what I like, so this is usually what i get. Their batidos (milkshakes?) are definitely a must, and the burger isn't monstrous, so you can do both without getting insanely full. The fries are decent as well. They also sell some fried plantain chips, which I've only had once, because they're a little expensive, imo. But they are good and good for sharing if you get some fries, the plantains and share with your caompany. Staff is always cool, order at the counter and sit down and they bring it to you. It's like cafeteria style lunch tables, so you'll be sharing your table with a few other groups, unless you're a ginormous group that's there. Downtown Ann Arbor, so you know parking can be a pain if you come during the rush. Never waited more than 10 minutes in line, and always got seats quite easily when I've come, so it's never so bad. read more

If you don't want to wait long (and I'm referring to more than 30 minutes), you have to avoid the peak hours and nights during the weekend. Even during random times where you think it's not busy, it's still busy. I think the shortest I ever waited was 20 mins. There is seating but it is hard to come by when you're traveling with groups because of how busy it is. However, the burgers still taste amazing even when you take it to go. The food was pretty good but not five stars and not reflective of the reviews listed. The churro is huge and a great value - two people can share one. The mango drink was basically a kids sized portion. Ripoff. Wasn't even that great. So the conch fritters were pretty good, but not something that I would crave. The fish Frita was okay - not a big size. I felt that they put cilantro in everything and are not offering an authentic Cuban food experience. Maybe Cuban inspired. Feels like one of those trendy Indian places that has no indian people making the food- but some well intended non Indians trying there best - but with Cuban food. I doubt Cubans actually come here to eat Personally I won't be coming here again. Maybe I just don't get it or tried the wrong items. It smelled great and we were hungry so the aroma just made us want to get home faster to eat it We got a black bean Frita, plantain chips, the Cuban, garlic fries and the conch fritters. My son loved the Frita, we wish we would have ordered a double of the plantain chips they were so good. The conch fritters took me back to a trip to Grand Cayman and I think they were my favorite. The garlic fries were super garlicky and I loved it- usually it's just a hint, these were not for those who are so-so with garlic...garlic lovers will rave. The Cuban was good but the bread is just too thick for my taste- the only critical comment I have- thinner panini type bread would be my preference but the fillings were tasty so I just gave up on the bread after a few bites and ate the fillings. Buyers Beware! I visited two days ago for the first time and ordered the Chorizo sandwich. The girl behind the counter suggested that I should get it the way they recommend it, big mistake. They add a bunch of stuff to jack up the price without really telling you. So the sandwich was $9, they added four rings of Jalapenos=$1.50, dollop of Avocado=$2, a single slice of cheese=$1.50 and some salsa=$1.50. Total for toppings was $6.50 on a $9 sandwich. Why they do it? Because you know those little tablets that most businesses use today? And how for 99% of them the tip default option in the tip screen is $0? For them the default is 18% and it's not clear when you're looking at that screen. Obviously when the cashier makes 18% of every $1 you spend they'll add a bunch of stuff if they can. 18% for a sit-down restaurant is more than reasonable but for a takeout, quick lunch it is not, especially when they sneak it in. It felt like being a tourist in Europe at the local tourist trap. I just paid for it because I don't like confrontations. tl ; dr: Spent $24.18 on a reasonably priced sandwich and fries, a lot of expensive toppings without knowing and a sneaky tip. 2 stars because I hate giving anything 1 star. read more
