Food first, thoughts after... Wow! Let's talk about the decor and dining room. Absolutely perfect. It is aesthetically pleasing and overall so cute and great for taking food pictures. Very popular place! Line is out the door but don't worry as it moves fast and is so worth. Sauces, napkins, cups, and water all on the table arranged very minimal but matching to overall vibe. Service is great. You place your order, grab a seat and they will bring you everything. The food omg was so good. Cooked fresh to order and to perfection. They also have dominos and rules to play as you wait. I love this place so much.
First time trying Fritos and it did not disappoint. The chicken verde bowl with cilantro garlic rice was phenomenal. I will definitely be back very soon. I was able to put an order in online and pick it up quickly.
Frita Batidos in Ann Arbor is a popular spot, and I can see why! The service was fast, the environment was great, and there was plenty of seating. The piña colada was sweet, creamy, and tart, while the chicken sandwich was packed with flavor, spices, and a delicious sauce. It gets a little messy, but it's so worth it, especially paired with their fries.
Was visiting Ann arbor for a conference. A friend highly recommended this place. I tried their chorizo based sandwich, it was really good. Tender and juicy. The Chile mayo was also a perfect blend with it. And I tried one of their drinks, it was mango pineapple based which was really good. However, I asked the server if I could sample a coconut cream one. As I noticed everyone ordering that, he was kind enough to provide me a small sample and I highly recommend trying the coconut cream flavor. The line was a little long but definitely moved fast, a nice cozy place. You just may have to share a table as it gets really busy. Their garlic fries had a good flavor and partially on the thinner crunchy side
Frita Batidos you have been kind to me. The black bean frita sub fries for garlic fries was genuinely heavenly. I loved the coconut cream and cajeta batidos. There's indoor and outdoor seating and the vibes in this spot are great, dominios to play and water at the tables. The staff are incredible too, very on top of orders and refilling waters especially given how busy it is. I love that they bring the lights down in the evening. Always had a positive experience here. It's up there in price but the flavors are there. Would highly recommend!
First time eating here. Went after a movie on a Sunday. You eat at shared picnic tables, ordering your food at the counter. It's then delivered to you. We tried a chicken Frita, the chorizo, Frita, and one of the beef Fritas. They all come with fries on top. We also added the tropical slaw. The coconut batido and the chocolate batido were delicious. Very fresh and tasty food. The service was friendly and quick. Great casual eatery. Give some Cuban street food a try!
(Kari's Rating 8.5/10) I stopped in with a large group of about 15 last Friday on a snowboarding trip, there was a line out the door, so I knew this place was already very popular as it was negative degrees outside. I haven't been to many Cuban places, but I actually was very impressed by the burger. I've been to many burger places in Chicago but none that come with plantains. I would say the burger was relatively average overall. I got mine with bacon which was so thick it almost was like pork belly! Something that was different about this burger was the bun was a little bit sweet, which was a nice change up from the savory patty. Let me also preference. I'm not someone who likes fries on their burgers so I definitely gave those to my friend. The thing that took the cake for me were the plantain chips. Almost everyone in my group ordered a pack so I was like maybe this is too much overkill, I couldn't have been more wrong. I needed an entire pack of those. They were sweet. They were salty, they came with us delicious avocado garlic guac. I think they were a little expensive for what they are, but I would've happily paid six dollars. What surprise me the most was the drink. It was negative degrees outside and everyone in our group ordered a Batido. I got the coconut one and it was perfect. Perfectly creamy, perfectly sweet, icy, but not chunky. I would drive all the way from Chicago to Michigan to get this batido again. We ended up getting the cinnamon sugar plantains for dessert, and I didn't care for the texture as they were relatively heavy. I think the denseness took away from the light texture I was expecting. Overall relatively good place but now I know what to get!
I had a Chorizo Frita with a Chocolate Espanol Batido, their garlic cilantro fries and some crisped plantains and everything was amazing. The Frita was fairly huge, tasty and very flavorful. The batido was nice, very good milkshake and not overly sweet. The pricing isn't bad either, the ingredients are great quality and the price was what I expected it to be. The fries were perfect texture, crispy on the outside and soft and potato-y inside. Definitely would come back to here when in Ann Arbor again. The place does get very busy and packed, so seating can be difficult to find, especially cleaning seating is my only criticism about it.
Their batidos lives rent free in my head - it's like if a pina colada and vanilla ice cream had a baby! My favorite flavor is lime, but coconut is amazing too. And adding the rum seriously takes it to a new level, although it's still amazing without!
I cannot count the number of people that recommended Frita Batidos while I was visiting Ann Arbor for a few days! Multiple people said this was their favorite restaurant in town, so I had to give it a try! I'm not quite sure what I expected, but it's a Cuban burger restaurant and bar. You walk up and order and then can eat there for a full service meal, but I took my food to go. I ordered a chorizo burger with Muenster, avocado, and cilantro lime salsa. I thought it was really good and incredibly filling. It was served with shoe string fries on the burger so it was definitely a heavy meal. I dipped it in some siracha sauce for some extra spice but personally didn't think it was spicy enough. Overall the burger was delicious, but I wish they had a spicy chorizo or something with a little bit more of a kick. I didn't try any of the drinks but they looked delicious. I'd love to come back and eat at the restaurant and order some of their drinks. Overall, I see the hype around Frita Batidos and think it was one of my favorite restaurants I tried in Ann Arbor
Nice spot right in the middle of the college crowd. The vibe here is upbeat and lively, but finding a seat on weekends can be tough, the place stays packed. We tried the Chicken Frita burger, and it was excellent and full of that Cuban-inspired twist. The Coconut Batido was easily the star of the meal, creamy and refreshing -- definitely a must-try. The Chocolate Batido was good too. The only letdown was the Cilantro Fries -- they came out soggy and didn't really hit the mark. Service was good, you will have to wait for your order sometimes but friendly despite the crowd, and the space has a fun tropical feel with the bar area setup. Overall, it's a cool hangout if you're in Ann Arbor and want something unique.
We were in Ann Arbor for a wedding and this place was recommended to me by one of my coworkers who previously lived in the area for ~10 years and it did not disappoint! We went here for lunch on a Saturday and the service was efficient. You order at a counter, take a number and grab a seat indoors or outdoors. We sat outside. We ordered the fish frita with cheese, beef frita, garlic fries and the passion fruit batido. The portions were quite large for the price and everything was so tasty! The fries were a bit oily by the end but the flavor was so good and the aioli that it comes with was very delicious as well. Don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu.

Hello Viola and so happy you enjoy Frita! Thank you for the detailed…
This review is for the eve dinner that we picked up for Easter. The food was fantastic! Our dinner included ham (lots of ham), mashed potatoes, sweet potato gratin, chocolate cake, and rolls. The rolls came with three different flavored butters that were soo good. The chocolate cake came with whipped cream and fresh raspberries. An excellent way to spend Easter when you are quarantined at home. The eve dinners are also available on Friday and Saturday nights and we plan on ordering again. I hope she continues these dinners even after things open up. It's a three-course dinner for $55 per person. read more

Good food and entertainment! I got the chorizo frita with an egg, and it was so yummy! The bread was buttery like a croissant, and the patty was tender and flavorful. The fries added a nice crunch and the egg definitely made it even better. I also tried a bit of the passion fruit batido and the fruit flavor was pretty strong. The dominos on the tables were also super fun to play with. read more

So sorry for any disappointment caused Melissa! If you would be…
Outstanding food in a bright, trendy place. It's basically Cuban inspired burgers and tropical milkshakes. Menu is simple and easy to navigate. Get a Frita, a Batido, and a side! I had the beef frita medium rare with cilantro lime salsa and avocado spread. BF had the traditional chorizo frita. We shared the "lighter batido" but next time I'm getting my own! Can be alcoholic or non-alcoholic. We also shared the twice fried plantains which were delicious. Aside from the meat, there's good vegetarian options! This is a casual place, order at the counter and they bring your food out shortly after. There's a few communal tables but it seems really popular so I wouldn't recommend coming with a giant group. It was 4 adults and 2 toddlers and we had to wait a bit to sit. Overall kinda pricey but w/e. The food is so good. Will definitely be back. read more

We care so much about our guest's happiness and it honestly means so…
One of the best burger spots in ann arbor. The shoestring fries are fire, the sauces are dank, and the meat and vegetarian options are all bomb. Even if you are a meat eater, the black bean is super good and worth getting. A single is probably enough, the double is usually a bit heavy. The batidos are also really good. Overall highly recommend giving this place your time and money read more

Frita is one of the most popular places in AA, and it's deserved! The food is flavorful and consistently delicious. I also really appreciate how considerate they are about dietary restrictions! The prices are great for the amount of food that you get. Sometimes, it can be hard to find a place to sit and you likely will have to share a table with someone else, but it's not a huge deal. read more

Fresh, clean, bright white interior that makes you forget it's a cold, dreary night outside. Long picnic-style tables make it easy to seat a group or just two at one end if it's just a couples thang. Food was great. It was our first time to visit after many recommendations and accolades from our friends, and now we can only wonder, what were we waiting for?! Beef fritas were our choice, one with muenster and one with lime-cilantro salsa. The slightly sweet buns hugged the flavorful patties and toppings in a loving embrace until they were no more! We added a pre-packaged bag of plantains displayed at the register and washed it all down with margaritas. A to-go cup of sangaria later at home was the perfect end to a great, casual evening out downtown. read more

Thank you Cathy! I just saw that I overlooked your very kind words!…
Frita is really just okay. I don't really understand the intense hype around this place. They have good burgers, but it is not as great as everyone says it is. It also doesn't help that this place is super pricey for the amount of food you get. I have tried both the beef and the chorizo fritas. I prefer the beef one because the chorizo frita was actually a bit dry and chunky. I usually get my fritas with the tropical slaw, eggs, and muenster cheese on top. These toppings cost an additional $1.50 each which is literally insane. You feel obligated to get additional toppings because if you don't you would only have a bun with fries and a patty which is so dry. Their one shining dish is the garlic cilantro fries, but the quality of this dish has varied every time I've gotten it. Sometimes it is super oily, but sometimes it is perfectly garlicky and not oily at all. The seating is very unwelcoming to large parties, and you have to practically shout across the 1.5 foot table to hear what your friend is trying to say to you. Be prepared to drop almost over $20 per person if you want a burger with toppings, fries, and a batido (which is pretty tasty I do admit). Honestly, in my opinion, this place is not worth it, but maybe you will think it is worth it like all the other people who gave this place 5 stars. read more

We had a great fast casual dinner here. I am gluten free and they were able to put my burger in a lettuce wrap instead of the bun. It looks unappetizing in the photo, but the burger was juicy and well seasoned. The light bright salad is also something I would get again. The dressing made it! read more
This place has rave reviews and they deserve it!! The fries come with the burger and it's so filling, I loved the egg and jalapeños. Plantains are a MUST!! The lime batido was like a pina colada, very creamy and pairs well with the burger. Seating is first come first serve but people come and go pretty quickly. read more

The Cuban gods had to have been shining upon the creators of this place. Bless their hearts!!!! I was left nothing short of amazed by this place that puts a twist on Cuban street food. You can taste the influence everywhere from the sides that include plantains, to the sauces that are used on the sandwiches. I opted to get the chicken sandwich..... and yes..... every sandwich comes with shoestring fries on them. For my toppings, I went the route of "make it loco" which includes Muenster cheese, a Sunnyside up egg, tropical slaw, and avocado spread and there are so many additional ones to choose from or use to create your own. The Batidos/Shakes are all made in house FRESH, as well. They even have a happy hour where certain food items are offered at a fraction of the price. What's even better is their 2nd location will be opening up soon!!!! It is a must try! read more

Thank you Blake!
Came here while visiting Ann Arbor. We got the Chorizo Frita and made it loco which has everything on it but bacon. The flavor was delicious but the meat was somewhat dried out which was surprising since it was chorizo. We also ordered "the best snack ever" which was rice and beans and some tomatoes and cheese which was somewhat underwhelming. The Batidos we got, however, were incredible. We got one Hibiscus batido and one Passionfruit batido . These made the meal. We got them with a splash of rum and they were both amazing. Honestly would go back just for these. read more

Fritas has been the highlight of our trip to Ann Arbor, and is already at the top of the list for our next trip! It is apparently always busy, and seating is pretty full...but service is fast, and seats open up quickly. The beef fritas with garlic fries were amazing, and I think are a must try for the first visit. The chorizo frita adds a whole other burst of flavor that's also delicious. Complementing whatever you're eating with a cool, creamy, flavorful batido is also a must!! Every single one is awesome. read more

I have been coming to this place since college and it is an Ann Arbor staple! The food is absolutely incredible and the Batidos are also amazing. I am a personal fan of the passion fruit but can attest the coconut cream is great as well as the hibiscus. In terms of fritas, chicken, fish and black bean are all good. Definitely get the frita loco, you won't regret it. Can't wait to return to Michigan to eat this food again! read more

OK you've read about the Frita (Cuban Burger), Batidos (tropical shakes) and the gorgeous garlic fries but I feel compelled to highlight their biggest sleeper on their menu: CHURROS (scented with nutmeg & orange zest, flash fried, rolled in cinnamon & sugar). I ordered Churros Espana (three churros with chocolate dipping sauce $7.50) after consuming the staples above. These babies were UNREAL; the size of an adult male's forearm and perfectly flash fried. Donut-like in size but with the perfect texture of a churro. I loved that I could see the real citrus zest in the churro and it was perfect was the chocolate dipping sauce. Don't sleep on the churros!! read more
This place is so popular! I'm so glad I came by when I was in Ann Arbor. FOOD They're known for their Fritas so of course I had to get it. The burger is just bread, sauce and meat served with fries so I recommend including some of the add-ons to make it more substantial. It doesn't sound like much but it's super tasty! The chorizo was very flavorful and even the BUNS were good! I don't like burgers because I don't like bread and just eat the inside, but I actually went back and ate the bun after I finished eating the meat! Kinda weird, I know, but the bread is just that good. It's an egg bun and just sooo SOFT AND FLUFFY. The fries were just okay. Nothing special for shoestring fries and I would leave them out if I came again. The twice fried plantains were super yummy! They come with a side of dipping sauce which is also good with the fries. The garlic is strong and a good balance against the subtle sweetness of the plantains. I got the lighter batido and it was good, but expensive for what you get. $5+ for about 12oz. SERVICE The workers are nice and food comes out fast. I think I only waited 10 mins for all my food. AMBIANCE Inside seating was easier to get than outside seating when I came. It's pretty lively and loud but a fun vibe. There's also a bar inside. OVERALL I love the location in downtown Ann Arbor and parking wasn't too bad. The food is very yummy and reasonably priced. Get here early if you don't want to wait. I'll definitely be back! I read more

Really cool area that is blocked off by barriers on the street. Parked one block away and only paid $6 for parking. The staff is really friendly and will help you with the menu. I have never tried Cuban food before and it was amazing! The chorizo frida sandwich was super flavorful. It comes topped with fries. My boyfriend and I also go the "best snack ever" which is black beans, rice, and tomatoes. Woah this was so flavorful and I hate tomatoes. The food tasted authentic and not processed. Plenty of seating inside and outside. They bring the food to you and there is free water on the tables. Would definitely return if I'm back in Ann Arbor! read more

Drinks: 5/5, service 1/5, food 2/5 , ambiance 5/5. I would highly recommend coming for the drinks but nothing else. The flavors are delicious and make you feel like you are on a beach somewhere. I highly recommend the passion fruit flavor! It terms of the menu, it is very deceiving so make sure you ask specifically. For food we got a chicken sandwich and the pulled pork bowl and crisped plantains. The crisped plantains say they come with a choice of sauce ( avocado or salsa) on the menu but after we ordered and thought they would bring it to us at our table, the server said it is extra. We showed him the menu to show him what it says and he still said it was extra. It would have been nice to know that while we were ordering because the cashier didn't say anything to us about it . The crisped plantains are definitely not worth the money and the menu is very deceiving . The chicken sandwich was also not very good, it came with a few pieces of chicken and mostly mayonnaise and coleslaw. I didn't eat my food at all it was un-edible Super disappointing. They do have a happy hour menu and we tried ordering off of it but the cashier said they didn't have any of the items that were on there which was super odd. We wanted to have the chicken salsa verde and best mini snack ever . read more

I've been to Frita Batidos in Detroit but had yet to experience the original location because it was always so busy however they have expanded and increased their indoor seating because of the popularity. This is my absolute favorite place for a black bean burger and fries. The service is fast and the food is delicious. Highly recommend dressing up your food with the pico, guacamole and fried egg. This is one of the most highly recommended places in Ann Arbor and it did not dissappoint. I came by with a group of friends and had a a standard chorizo burger with fries and an egg and the passion fruit smoothie. The Burger was moist and the chorizo mixed in gave it an extra kick. The passion fruit smoothie was pretty thick, but the flavor was nice and refreshing. My friends gotta some lemonade and the presentation was pretty interesting, came in a little plastic bag with a straw! Overall, a great place in Ann Arbor to stop by for a quick bite. read more

Batidos: Best part of the meal! If you're deciding between flavors, the coconut cream is a must try. The chocolate one was good too, but not as creamy or flavorful as the coconut one. These were also extremely filling for their size. The Batidos came out before the food, so I felt full before my food arrived. Frita: Ordered 2 single beef Fritas the "make it Loco" style. My bf said it was the best burger he ever had. For the "make it Loco", I wish I had gotten it without a bun because I ended up eating it with a fork and knife without the bun anyways. There is so much stuff on the burger that style that the bun got a little mushy and was hard to pick up. Overall, SUPER tasty. Definitely recommend adding at least a few toppings if you're not getting it Loco. Sides: Maybe went a bit overboard on ordering. The Batidos + Fritas + sides was way too much for us but great leftovers. The fries were pretty basic and good but nothing special. We personally didn't love the twice fried plantains and sauce, but if you really love the taste of plantains I'm sure you would enjoy. It was just a little odd flavoring of being salty and really sweet. Churro: Always treat yourself to a churro! The orange flavoring was a nice touch. Service: SUPER friendly staff. There was a short wait for outdoor seating but once we were seated the food came out really quickly. read more

Ask the Community - Frita Batidos
Does frita banditos deliver?
We do not deliver in Ann Arbor Or Detroit, but are on DoorDash at our Detroit location. If we coordinate a catering order from our catering offerings, we can schedule deliveries if we have staffing available!
What cheese is used on Beef Fritas? It was sooo delicious, not something I'd typically taste with a burger.
melted Muenster cheese - it's the BEST - and I think they source locally from the Great Lakes region dairy farms and creameries!
What is the best thing to get here? I have never tried Cuban food.
The most popular of all is our Chorizo Frita and a Coconut Cream Batido but some all time staff favorites are our Aromatic Pulled Pork Bowl over Coconut-Ginger Rice with Tropical Slaw or our Chicken Frita with Muenster and Cilantro-Lime Salsa!
What type of oil do they use for the GF fryer?? And the soy free?
We use Reliance Clear Soybean Oil (no Trans Fats) which we also use in our gluten-free Fryer...We do keep our gluten-free frier completely separate so that nothing else coming into contact with gluten is fried there! We do have soy free oil…
Coming with a larger party, how does reservation work (out of towner here with kids who get cranky if waiting too long🤣)?
It's cafeteria style seating, so first you order at the counter and then you find a seat at the long tables and they bring your food out to you when it's ready. To my knowledge they don't do reservations.
Can you order a plain batido with only the crushed ice and vanilla bean ice cream (for my kids)?
Certainly!
