Expect a LONG line at Frita's. Since food does come out fast and there's lots of communal seating, the line moves quickly. I loved the plantains and the hibiscus frozen drink. The beef frita was way better than the chorizo frita so definitely try that. I would consider this a must-try in Ann Arbor! read more

This place is SPOT on for deliciousness!! This review is for a visit in 2019. Pros: Amazing food Great staff The "best snack ever" dish? INDEED. Get this!! Light and airy aesthetic Easy ordering at the counter Did I mention the incredible food? Cons: A bit spicy for me (ack!) Standing around waiting for a table or high stools facing the wall (this is my least favorite seating option). It is weird to stand around in a small space while people eat. Also, not being able to sit and chat after, because people are waiting. GO! One of the best restaurants in town. read more

We arrived at 1PM to a line out the door but decided to stay because we were anxious to give this local favorite a try. We went to the bar and ordered the frita colada, hibiscus soda, and two beers to enjoy while waiting in line to order. We ordered the chorizo frita (topped with tropical slaw), frita bowl with chicken, and the garlic cilantro fries as a side to share. The ingredients were fresh and packed full of flavor for both dishes. The portions were huge so we weren't able to finish the side of fries, despite how amazing they tasted with the made from scratch dipping sauce. Glad we waited out the line but next time we might order carry out during lunch time. read more

I think most people would rank @fritabatidos as their top restaurants to go to in A2, and I would definitely recommend any visitor to go here. The Cuban inspired burgers and smoothies are super delicious and special to the place itself. Always add a sunny side up! It is definitely on the pricey end for U of M students, but when I was in school I would always go when I wanted to treat myself! read more

Lines were long, so we ordered online and picked up at our own time. I got the beef burger and made it loco . Honestly, one of the best things I put in my mouth. The entire room was filled with mostly people who had never tried it before (me included), and so as soon as we took our first bites, the room went silent. All I could hear were the eager lip smacking and slurping as people devoured their dishes. As we finished, we all collectively continued to sit in silence for a few minutes, contemplating what we did to deserve such a treat and wondered how we could go back to regular burgers after this. The burger itself was filled to the brim, stuffed with fires, and definitely was a fork-and-knife endeavor (although there were some folks in the room who attacked it with their bare hands). It was rich, and every bite had a slightly different flavor since there were just so many toppings on there. While I typically prefer heterogeneity in terms of texture, this dish had enough flavor surprises to make up for it. I think if the fries were crispier (hard to ensure in take-out containers) or had a different crunchy element, it would elevate this to another level. Regardless, flavorwise, there was a good balance between the sweet and acidic components, and I was left feeling extremely satisfied. I would definitely recommend this for everyone who visits Ann Arbor. 5/5 stars. read more

Frita Batidos is hands down my favorite Ann Arbor restaurant forever and ever and ever! There is a special piece of my heart specifically reserved for Fritas ALWAYS! I found every excuse to eat there when I was a student at Michigan & now, it's the #1 place I always want to go whenever I find myself back in Ann Arbor around mealtime! I've also safely tried possibly everything on the menu over the years & now order the same thing every time because it's my favorites - a fish frita with a lighter batido (and elote if it's in season)! MY ONE COMPLAINT ABOUT FRITAS: Even though I'm not vegan, I am conscious of my meat intake and always take note of the vegan options available at a restaurant because a lot of my close friends are vegan. This is, in my opinion, a big, glaring spot in which Fritas is lacking. They have very limited options for vegan diets on their menu, which is extra surprising given that they're located in an extremely vegan-friendly town - Ann Arbor - and their Detroit location has even less vegan options available. Basically, if a vegan were to place an order here, they wouldn't be able to get a full meal out of the options available, and that's downright disappointing. It was my hope when their Detroit location opened, they would add / change some things on their menu to become more vegan friendly, but nothing happened. Other than that, I can't emphasize enough how great Fritas is. Anytime I bring a non-vegan friend to Ann Arbor, this is always the first place I want to take them. Even in this pandemic, when I place an order online, often the earliest available time to pick up is an hour later! That's encouraging to know that business is still so steady & good, but also helpful for all those planning to order ahead! Make sure to give yourself plenty of time. Luckily for me, I live an hour away, so I basically just need to place the order before I start driving and it'll be ready for me by the time I get to AA! You pick up your food at their cute little to-go / carry out window right next to their door! During non-pandemic times, the interior is so cute & signature Fritas! All white, picnic tables, dominos you can play while you wait for your food, & water jugs at every table to pour your own water! They have happy hour in the afternoon & at the last hour before they close at night, the latter of which my friends & I would take full advantage of during our time as students! :) Do yourself a favor and try Fritas IMMEDIATELY if you haven't already! Fritas Forever!!! read more

When you walk in it's very similar to a highschool cafeteria, with communal tables and a lot of undergrad college students so somewhat hard to find somewhere to sit. Delicious Cuban inspired street food! I usually get the beef frita which is good but not as flavorful or juicy as it'd expect. The coconut cream babtido is amazing!! One of my favorite places to go of all time. During college, I would always go here despite the long lines. Now that I live far away from Michigan, I still think about it and would fly out just for this. Their frita is super juicy, tender, and flavorful. When you choose the option to Make it Loco, you basically have all the toppings added in it and it results in a nice harmony between the meat, the cheese, guacamole, tropical slaw, salsa, and fries. It's a messy eat for sure, but one that's well worth looking like a degenerate in public. read more

Fritas is the place to be. Fritas does a great job with their Cuban fusion food, blending traditional Cuban flavors with American burgers. I especially love getting the beef frita with a fried egg. There is a special aioli that is magical in the Frita and the beef is always cooked a perfect medium rare. This is definitely a top tier burger. I additionally, love the fries they place in the burger as they add a sufficient crunch. The churros espanol are a bit polarizing for me on the other hand. Though I love the concept of warm chocolate and churros before ordering, the large portion sizes and girth of the churros make them a bit gimmicky. Fritas is the best and Ann Arbor is lucky to have it read more

A feast for the senses. We brought a couple of friends here for my wife's birthday. We went overboard and ordered half of the menu. Appetizers: Best snack ever: Beans, rice, salsa, melted cheese. Lots of herbs and garlic. It was true to its name and a must-order. Loaded plantains: Pretty much the contents of the best snack ever dumped over a few plantains. I preferred the former, and didn't feel like the plantains added too much. Shoestring fries: My wife liked them, I thought they were pretty normal. Served with slightly sweet and spicy mayo. Mexican street corn: This was a special seasonal item. A cup of corn, mayo, and spices. Delicious. Drinks: Batido: My wife loved her coconut cream batido with vanilla. It was thick and sweet and wonderful. Pretty heavy drink though, especially with the amount of food we ordered. I would recommended choosing this vs a churro as a dessert instead of having them both, but I'm not here to tell you how to live your life. Entrees: Frito: I got the chorizo with lettuce instead of a bun. It's basically a burger made of chorizo, with mayo, fries, and whatever add ons you want. I got the cheese. This honestly wasn't my favorite, as I thought that the chorizo was a bit dry and cumin-heavy. My wife had the black bean frito with avocado spread, which was arguably better than the chorizo. I want to try the chicken next time. Dessert: Churros: Big, thick, fried, warm churros. Hard to argue that these weren't some of the best churros I've ever had. The orange zest puts it on another level. You can get an order of three with chocolate sauce. It would take at least 5 people to eat it all though. All in all a great meal, with big portions and prices. The service was kind and attentive, with safety precautions taken in the midst of the pandemic. The staff graciously let us eat inside when it started raining. I'll definitely eat here again. read more

Frita Batidos - Coconut Cream Batido - Cuban Near Me - Ann Arbor, Michigan

Oh my gosh, the food here is AMAZING!!! I heard it was a local favorite in Ann Arbor, and I can definitely see why. The food is a little pricey, but worth it. The menu has a step by step of 1-2-3, but that doesn't mean you need to follow it. It has you choose a frita, batido, and a side, but I think if you got all 3 it would be too much food. A frita is basically a Cuban burger/sandwich, and a batido is a Cuban-inspired milkshake. I shared batidos and sides with friends and it was a good amount of food for all of us. I got the chorizo batido with tropical slaw and tried the coconut cream batido, passion fruit batido, garlic cilantro fries, and twice fried plantains. The chorizo frita was good, but the tropical slaw was INCREDIBLE on it. If I were to be back, I think I'd try the beef frita because that's more like a burger, and I felt like the chorizo was maybe a tad bit dry? But it was still delicious regardless, and I'd highly recommend the tropical slaw. Both the coconut cream batido and the passion fruit batido were delicious as well, but we all preferred the coconut cream one because it was less sweet and had a really good flavor if you like coconut. The garlic cilantro fries were amazing, but the lemon-scented mayonnaise that it came with was the star of the show for me. I already like mayonnaise, but this lemon-scented mayonnaise dipping sauce was probably one of the best condiments I've ever had, and it paired so well with the fries. The twice fried plantains were also really good! It came out really fresh and warm and I enjoyed them a lot. Overall, a 10/10 experience and if you're ever in Ann Arbor, you have to give this place a try. read more

Great bean burger. I ordered fries even though I knew I wouldn't need them after eating a double bean burger but I wanted to be able to taste the fries. I spent the day on Tuesday updating our Yelp collection of delivery options and needless to say, it made me pretty darn hungry. So when it came to quittin' time I turned to my husband and said, "that's it. We're getting delivery." And we decided to go with Frita Batidos. Always a solid choice! This was our first time with delivery from there and it was perfect. We each had the beef frita and fries and we also ordered some of the "best snack ever" and coconut rice for future bites. Oh, and of course an order of churros. Churros as big as your forearm!! Everything was incredible. I could say it was just because I'm so sick of the food I've been cooking but Frita always knocks it out of the park so it was truly a special meal. My husband and I were speechless as we ate, aside from the few moments we both looked up at each other and said "OH MY GOD THIS IS SO GOOD." "We're adding this to the regular rotation, right?" My husband asked. "Oh, definitely." I said. I already can't wait for the next order! Truly a special treat during a difficult time. Thank you for making our week, Frita Batidos! read more

Go to this place. Whether you're visiting Ann Arbor or here for the 2nd time this week, it's worth every bit. I went here for happy hour (4-6pm), changed it up from my usual order (beef frita with an egg) to the avocado spread instead. Really like the flavors, try it out! There wasn't a long line, however there was a huge back up in the kitchen so it took about 30+min or so to get the food... however! The staff came around with a snack (fried plantains) for everyone to eat! That was so nice of them. The staff is wonderful, and if you ordered and sat already, you can order from your seats through the staff! Another update: Great for outdoor eating now with safe distancing! They bring out tables to the streets on weekends, so more space. Quick service, and everyone is so nice. Definitely recommend still! read more

During my visit the 4.5 star restaurant I ordered a Hamburger. To say that the hamburger was raw would be something of an understatement, if you listen closely you could still hear the cow mooing. The color of the meat was the red of the Chine Communist party. When I brought my concern to the staff they were entirely disinterested in helping me. All I wanted was a hamburger, and all I got was a cow that I could have taken back home and nurtured back to health. read more

Perfect quick meal! Burgers are delicious. Batidos is a must try for any newbie! I love the outdoor seating. Absolutely delicious. The line is long, but the wait is worth it! Honestly one of the best meals I've had this year. I got a double beef frita and made it loco - and I was stuffed. And watch out - the churros are HUGE! Biggest churros I've ever seen. They had a diameter of a 10-year-old's palm (we measured). We were so stuffed from the fritas that we couldn't finish the churros, but they were delicious as well. They came with a chocolate sauce that was really nice. Definitely recommend this place if you're in Ann Arbor! read more

No surprise, but we had heard a lot of good things about Frita Batidos and decided to check it out. We placed an online order for takeout. We opted for the beef fritas, which come with a sweet chile mayo and shoestring fries on top, plus a kids meal of mini grilled cheese, which came with shoestring fries and seasonal fruit. The fritas were, by far, the best part! The kids grilled cheese and shoestring fries were fine, and the 'seasonal fruit' was just an orange wedge. Staff was friendly and pickup was quick and easy. read more

Extremely good food, but some of the pricing is a bit ridiculous (almost $2 per topping). Your $10 burger doubles its price very quickly. Would give five stars since my meal was so delicious, but staff were SO rude. The cashier had zero time for questions despite a complicated menu and showed zero understanding when I advised it was my first time there. Older white guy with white-ish hair. When asked if they had pop, he told me to "look under option 2 for drinks" and sighed (they do have pop. So a simple "yes" would've been fine). Asked the guy at the bar for a to-go box and he didn't make eye contact or say a word, just grabbed a box and handed it to me. Very off putting read more

Super excellent and filling food!! Comfort food for sure, tasty, customizable and fairly priced. It is first-come first serve seating both indoor and outdoor. Indoor was mostly cafeteria style benches. I got the beef frita with cheese, I'm forgetting what my boyfriend got but it was very tasty and he's been here several times before. We also got the coconut and chocolate batidos with rum. The coconut has lots of shredded coconut which isn't my fav so it was good but I preferred his chocolate espanol. Definitely will be back! The great news is that the Ann Arbor and Detroit locations are consistently (magically?) delicious. Probably my 2nd favorite burger in the area, thick and always cooked nicely. I wasn't a fan of being limited in my cheese selections, but it worked out, I like the Muenster. I wish I would have received guidance on the bacon though, it's thick and rubbery. Hard pass going forward. The Lime Batido is great (if you like lime). The cheesy garlic fries have great flavor, but after I eat my wife's order I always feel cholesterol-ish. read more

Best burger in town, hands down. Get the beef frita with Muenster cheese and cilantro lime salsa. Wash it down with a Cuba libre! Cafeteria Style set up, line was a little long but be to expected for a Home Football Weekend. Line took a minute to get through but the food was worth the wait! I got a single patty Chorizo Frita and made it fully loaded with a fresh lime Batido with a shot of dark rum! My bf got the Cuban and a side of garlic fries for us to share. The Chorizo Frita was delicious the meat was spiced perfectly and the fully loaded toppings (Muenster, slaw, avocado, Cilantro-lime salsa, and a sunny side up egg) with the fries also on the burger, it all came together so perfectly. Different than anything I've had before! The Batido was yummy as well but it wasn't something I would get again, it was refreshing with the fruit but then had the taste of milkshake at the end from the vanilla bean ice cream, it wasn't bad just not my personal preference.
