Been a bit since I left a review, but this one I felt like it was needed. Overall the food tasted fantastic. The batidos were great too. We have a family of 4, got 2 doubles, a single and a salad. The good: food tasted amazing, the mixture of flavors was great and shakes tasted fresh. Price wasn't too bad. The bad: I ordered my double medium well, and even confirmed it at order because I don't like my meat falling apart when I go to bite the burger. The BOTTOM patty was almost raw, and I only realized after eating the top patty because I got it loco style and ate it with a fork and knife My wife got a single, and hers was missing her egg that she ordered. The waiter was great in that he spotted the error... But then never corrected it after a few times of us trying to get his attention (it was busy). So all in all, good spot, but the back of the house needs some work. I could only finish half my burger and wife was eggless. Other dishes were good. read more

Frita Batidos is an Ann Arbor staple. I'm from out of state, but even my younger brother knew of this place from a stop through Ann Arbor in his younger years. He couldn't remember the exact name, but said it was the place with the good burgers, fries and milkshakes. When I offered up "Frita Batidos?" he snapped his fingers - "yes, that's the place!" I've visited a couple of times, before I moved here and then recently for a weekday lunch. It has expanded since my first visit and now has an expansive indoor space. They also made ample use of the sidewalk and outdoor seating when weather was nice enough to permit. Either way, you get the same speedy service and delicious flavors. I branched out to something healthier this time and went for the Frita Bowl Salad with pulled pork. It was just the right combination of sweet and savory, with the fresh tropical slaw on top, and made me feel a little better about my choice of side item - shoestring fries. It's nearly impossible to go wrong with food here, and both of my items hit the mark during my recent visit. Frita Batidos is an Ann Arbor staple that deserves to be on your regular restaurant rotation. And if you haven't been there yet, make sure you check it out! read more

First trip here....there were a couple of big hits to go along with a couple disappointing misses. First the misses 1) The first burger i was served came out raw. I ordered medium, got bloody as hell 2) They leave glass water bottles on the table... we found floaties in ours, yuck 3) the food is brought out by runners who carry trays of food and shout names.the restaurant is loud so this can make knowing when your order is ready a bit difficult Now the hits 1) the coconut crème badita was one of the best shakes I've ever had 2) once the burger was fixed, it was delicious, the fries on top were crisp and delicious 3) the staff was great about re-firing the burger 4) the hot sauce among the condiments was one of the best burger sauces I've ever had read more

Best veggie burger EVER! I got the loco veggie frita, the chocolate española batido (spicy cinnamon-y chocolate batido), and garlic fries. We also got plantains and beans for the table. The food was all really flavorful and well balanced. It felt nourishing unlike a fast food meal. The batido was a real standout because of how satisfying yet light it was. It's a really fun, bright place with white brick walls and blue painted accents. Counter server, so you need to order before finding a seat. The staff was really accommodating and let us sit down before we ordered because we were a big group. read more

Loved the food. The tables are communal, so if it is busy, you will probably make a friend. The food is great and the restaurant stays open late. There are several Frita to choose from and this is one of the best burgers I have eaten (especially with the Sweet Chili Mayo). There is also an extensive drink menu and you have to try one of the Batidos (a Cuban Milkshake made with fresh ingredients). We will certainly be back the next time we are in Ann Arbor. read more

Frita Batidos blew me away! I can't believe it took me so long to give this place a try. It is simply amazing! The ambiance was chill, mellow, and super clean. The employees were friendly, happy, and efficient. The flow of the food and the turnaround of guests made my experience here a positive one, which made me want to go back- before I even left! We began with a heaping pile of fried plantains, salsas, gaspacho, the best snack ever, tropical slaw, & sweet plantains. Everything was super delicious! We had beef frita, made loco- it was an amazing mess I had to finish with a fork! The churro was larger than life and tasted like a fresh donut from the apple orchard. It was heaven. To top it all off, the batidos were so tasty, we had to get another one for the road! She got a lime, I couldn't resist the coconut cream. The second one was with rum. I can't wait to go back! There are two locations, one in Ann Arbor and one in Detroit. You must try this place out, it's my new favorite spot! read more

The Cuban was the best I have ever had. The shoestring fries magnificent. The atmosphere was not what I'm used to (large wooden tables) but it was comfortable. Lastly, the staff was very attentive to our needs (wanted to help with a smile). While it's a distance (went to AA for a meeting) I'll never go elsewhere. FANTASTIC read more

Never had Cuban street food so it was cool to try it out! Can get busy during prime meal times! I love all of the toppings you can add to the frita. Fried plantains were a tad too oily and mushy for my taste but flavor was there. read more

I finally visited this restaurant after wanting to try it for a long time, and I wasn't disappointed. The Chicken Frita 'Loco' was fantastic - flavorful, well-prepared, and a generous portion. While the price might seem a bit steep, the quality of the ingredients and wish the serving size was larger to justify the cost. If you're looking for a delicious and authentic Cuban food experience, this restaurant is a great option. Just be prepared for a slightly higher price point. For a more budget-friendly option, you could consider sharing a dish or skipping the 'loco' upgrade. The building has a Great feel to it. My wife was dying to go here again. This time, i ate in and had the chicken. It was a patty surprise with a teaspoon of special mayo sauce on a bun w fries. Took forever to get. The place was packed. Coconut drink was good. Otherwise, not worth the cost. Can't understand why it has a cult following. My wife agreed, disappointing. My daughter likes it but bases baed on alcohol drinks. Plantain mess looked disgusting. Light on plantains geavy on beans and tomatoes. read more

Food (4/5) - Any of the burgers will do, definitely get the sunny side up egg. The shoestring fries are a nice touch and are adequately salted. Tried the hibiscus batido. Not too sweet and very refreshing. Service / Ambiance (5/5) - they proactively ask if you are splitting food items and will slice burgers and split milkshakes! The interior is really cute and tables come with a little bowl of dominoes for you to pass the time. Price (3/5) - a little on the pricier side, the whole order came out to close to 20. read more

CONCH FRITTERS!! I can never get sick of these conch fritters, seems like a summer seasonal menu but it's a must whenever you're at frita batidos! The friatas are very delicious, extremely juicy! I get mine with all the toppings making it a little messier but extra yummy! The portions are very generous, the bowl is also great if you want something more clean and lighter than the fritas. I've tried both the popsicle bar and the batidos I would personally choose the batidos over the ice cream, although it is very yummy nothing beats passion fruit and mango batidos. It gets very busy which is very natural for how amazing the food is but the service and the staffs are always so attentive and friendly. They have a really nice outdoor seating close to a lot of other great bars! We like to get frita batidos as take out and eat it at the grotto as well! A nice combination! read more

Can't go wrong with delicious Burgers (Frita) and Cuban shakes (Batido)! Fast service ordering at counter but having it delivered at your table. We forgot to order my daughter's shake and the server was able to add it or anything else and have us pay at the table so we didn't have to wait in line again. It's fun atmosphere. What is going on here? On my first and recent trip to Ann Arbor, I walked by this little joint and just thought "burgers" and kept walking. After a friend nudged me, I went in for an early dinner. Now there's quite a few options here to feed anyone veggie, pescati, or meati. What you get is something that looks like a burger (add that egg). But what you end up eating is a mind blowing transformation of time and space and you are left wondering what you thought a burger was and what you now know a burger can be. A life changing burger for sure. There are some boozie shakes and other beverages and sides to complete the trifecta. The line can get crazy...but it goes fast so don't be discouraged. read more

Great choice if you are looking for a healthier option in Ann Arbor. The score was recommended by friends and overall it didn't disappoint. Always a planned stop whenever in Michigan! Food is consistently excellent. Staff are helpful and attentive. Restaurant is clean and welcoming. Enjoy playing dominoes while waiting on your order :) We always order fritas (recently preferring chorizo or beef) and a large order of garlic cilantro fries ~ a large order is plenty for our family of 4 to share. Stop here, you won't regret it. And if you're like our family, you'll add it to your "must do" list. read more

A long line but very worth the wait! I recommend the fries and the inspired Cuban sandwich more than the actual fritas. The chorizo was saltier than I would have liked. Each element of my bowl had great flavor and I really liked their jicama and slaw. They have domino games at each table and it's a very fun atmosphere. I recommend ordering take out like an hour in advance and just enjoying it at home but they do warn you that the fries won't be as yummy if you do take it to go. read more

Love anything passion fruit, the passion fruit batido (milkshake) here is really refreshing! It's not super tangy, but you definitely get the essence of passion fruit. You order at the front and then the drinks are made at a bar around the corner. They are supposed to be picked up there by a runner who goes around the restaurant calling your name, but ours was somehow missed and eventually we wandered up and saw our name on the drink and got it! read more

Came here when I visited my sister and cousin in Michigan and it did not disappoint! I got the Frita bowl and it was so good. The pork was so tender and flavorful and I loved the cole slaw that they paired it with! This was like an elevated and flavor-filled version of a chipotle bowl. The garlic fries were also super yummy but a little on the oily side. The main star of the night was the churros. Do not underestimate how huge these are!!! We didn't know how big they were and so we ordered three instead of just one. The churro is super bready and dense (almost like a old fashioned donut). So I think one churro is good for 2-3 people. The chocolate sauce paired with it was so good as well. Service was nice and love how bright it is inside! Wish I lived in Michigan so I could come here more. read more

My previous review from five years ago still stands, but I have had a much better experience at Fritas since then. Definitely get the beef frita here and add a sunny side up egg for an additional $1.50. Let the yolk run on the burger - it's gonna be messy bit it's worth it. The sweet chile mayo is creamy and delicious. A bit of heat to add in extra flavor. If I recall correctly, the beef patty is a medium / medium-rare, which is perfect for burgers. The fries in the burger are tasty. This burger is amazing, but pricy. It's not a big burger, but it's over $10 (and more if you get the egg and other toppings). The garlic-cilantro fries is also a "must" when I go with friends. We share it between a few people and always want more. Super greasy and oily, so you know it tastes amazing. Sometimes, it's just nice and crispy without the extra oil, so not the most consistent. Good and creamy dipping sauce, too. Great location for drinks during happy hour, too, but only if you are able to find a place to sit! It's definitely a popular location with good & unique food choice for students and locals! read more

An Ann Arbor staple! You can't really go wrong with anything on the menu. I'm a big fan of the Beef Frita but occasionally I'll go for an Inspired Cuban or one of their bowls -- all great options. If you want something sweet, I do recommend the Lighter Batido. While it can be packed at times, especially during home games, sometimes it truly is worth the wait. read more

Very impressed with this place!! First time trying Fritas and I went with the Fish version. The shoestring fries (I also added a sunny side up egg) in the burger really made for interesting textures throughout. It was absolutely delicious. I also ordered a fresh lime batido which was perfect for a hot summer day. It was slightly tangy, just sweet enough and creamy like a milkshake. 10/10. OMFG!!!! Taste bud explosion! My hairdresser told me about Frita Batidos and it's been on my bucket list. Finally, finally checked it out tonight. We got there early and put our name of the waiting list. Not too long of a wait to eat inside. We opted for inside just because it was a little too cold for this Cali girl. We started with the pisco hibiscus lemonade, fishbowl style. Great option if you're with a group. It serves six or three if you're doing two rounds. Sooo it served three. Lol. We asked our server for recommendations since we were first timers and he didn't disappoint. We started with the crispy plantains and the shoestring garlic fries. Great options! We all ordered a burger - literally tried everything. We ordered the chorizo Frita loco, beef Frita loco, fish Frita loco, and the chicken with cheese and avocado. These sandwiches are delicious!!! Look at how amazing the egg looks?! Shoestring fries on a burger?! Well, hello there!!! I ordered the fish Frita loco and my fam bam got the rest of the items. Let me tell you.... that fish patty is amazing. Doesn't taste fishy. It doesn't seem fried. It looked like a fish patty just the the beef patty. The loco was the way to go for me, especially being a newbie. It was loaded! I felt like I was going to pop after eating it, but it was so worth it! I can't confirm or deny it I look like a starfish laying on my belly right now. Am I going back?! Absolutely! Like tomorrow?! Ha. Definitely taking my mom and recommending this place with bells on. Go, go, go! You must try everything!!! read more

I love Frita's! I recently went and saw that they expanded. They have outdoor dining, as well as indoor seating. The seating is all picnic table style (indoor and outdoor). I came here last week and got the margaritas and fried plaintains. The crisped plaintains came with guac and pico and were really yummy. I loved how crispy the plaintains were! I came here another day with a different friend and we got the Strawberry Jalapeño daiquiri and batido. I'm not a milkshake person, so I got the daiquiri and found it to be refreshing. We also got garlic fries to share. I liked the sauce that the fries came with. read more

Frita Batidos - Chicken Frita, Conch Fritters, Twice Fried Ripe Plantains, Shoestring Fries - Cuban Near Me - Ann Arbor, Michigan

Frita Batidos was one of the first restaurants I fell in love with in Michigan -- I've been going there for years, and I'm only surprised I didn't write a review sooner! In non-pandemic times, Frita Batidos was always packed and it was clear as to why: they offered great and unique at reasonable price. In pandemic times, they've done a fantastic job at continuing to offer the same great service and food, but adapted for the current situation. There are options for dining on-site, but the real gem (imo) is the takeout window -- some friends and I arrived on a Sunday afternoon during a peak time and there was no line for the takeout window! We got food within 15 minutes which is just awesome. During our last visit, we saw the outdoor seating area in the street outside Frita Batidos which is also a really nice feature and great to be able to enjoy nice weather and Frita Batidos food all at once! You won't go wrong with anything on the Frita Batidos menu and there are plenty of great combinations and permutations of Frita & toppings. I'd recommend adding the twice fried plantains to your order -- I got them for the first time during my last visit and they were absolutely worth it. read more

How have I never been here before?!? After a long travel day, we needed to refuel and after hearing great things about Frita Batidos, I knew this was place for our dinner. Color me impressed after my first visit. Once we acquainted ourselves with the menu, ordering at the counter was simple. I landed on the fish frita adding the options of tropical slaw, avocado spread and cilantro lime salsa. Next choice - the batido. Coconut cream with a splash of rum for me (thanks to my son who suggested the splash of rum; after 6+ hours of planes, airports and buses this was a welcome addition!). My husband went for the chorizo frita gone loco & the passion fruit batido. Garlic cilantro fries for the table. These are the kind of sandwiches that'll leave you reaching for the napkins. But oh, so good! The add-ones I chose for my fish frita were the perfect compliment. It was so tasty I devoured every bite. The coconut cream batido refreshed with each sip. The interior atmosphere is lively tending toward loud. Long rectangular tables likely to be shared of you have a small party. Candles come out in the evening for a nice touch of ambiance. If you're looking for a fun, flavorful, filling meal in downtown A2, Frita Batidos is a must try! read more

One of the best places i've ever eaten. My friends took me here because I was visiting and it did not disappoint. I wasn't too hungry so I split a burger with my fiancé and i regret doing that now because it was the best burger i've ever had no words can describe it. The vibe is chill & relaxing, and the service is outstanding. The Batidos are amazing. I got the strawberry serrano batido with rum and it was the best drink i've ever had. Frita batidos is a Cuban inspired restaurant. You can customize and build your own sandwich. They also offer alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages. This place can get pretty busy so there might be a wait time. Personally, this place is not one of my favorites, but a lot of people do like it. It can get a little expensive, as you have to pay for everything separately (sandwiches, fries, drinks) for the two of us it was about $50. The sitting area inside is self served, so you can sit at any table and they will bring your food to you. They also offer limited outdoor seating. read more
