I was at an event recently who used the Friskie Fries food truck. There were some really interesting choices of "dressed" french fries I opted for the Tiger King (General Tso's chicken, mandarin oranges and scallions). The fries were crispy and well done. There were only three little pieces of chicken on the dish, but they were very tasty. Overall a good choice for a quick meal where you get fries and something else on top. read more

We found this place in Downtown, Providence Rhode Island. This spot is an about a 5 minute walk from Johnson and Wales. We order three different types to try and shared them all. The best was the Buffalo Chicken Friskie Fries. Boneless chicken bites, lots of blue cheese dressing and crumbles and of course hot sauce. The second was the Steak and Cheese, they were very tasty. My wife really enjoyed the Loaded Potato Fries, she put some the malt vinegar on them and it was really good. We were greeted immediately by friendly staff. I thought the price for the beverages were a bit much. $3.22 for a can of soda is a bit excessive. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area looking for a quick snack. read more

If you're looking for a healthy, low calorie dish, you won't find it here! However, if you're looking for a crispy, tasty, treat, you've arrived at the right place. Friskie Fries used to operate out of a food truck and has now expanded to 5 retail locations, 4 in Rhode Island and 1 in Massachusetts. We've visited their Providence location a few times, it's very small and very popular (pre-coronavirus). The fries always come out piping hot, and they layer their ingredients, so they are not just on top, but integrated throughout the box of fries. On this visit, we were at their Johnston, RI location, which is even smaller than the Providence venue. It was curbside delivery, and we sat at the solitary picnic table on the side of the building. We ordered Buck Naked Fries with Sea Salt, Philly Cheese Steak Fries, and Poutine with Handmade Vermont Cheddar Curd and Brown Gravy Fries. I'm going to share a secret with everyone in this review. If you take lots of hot, crispy fries and add cheddar, curds, salt or gravy to them, they are likely to taste great! And these did not disappoint. As an aside, certain ingredients can make some of the fries a little soggy, but I think that's a reasonable trade-off and a tasty result. So, if you're seeking a flavor and calorie intensive destination, this would be a great choice. We look forward to a return visit. Note that the very hard-working cook was observing COVID-19 best practices including wearing a mask, allowing only one person or family inside at one-time (to order), and all the patrons we saw in the parking lot were also wearing masks and keeping their distance. This is one of those times I wish 3.5 stars was an option. The place is small, but very cool and specializing in French fries and doing it well is a great idea. They offer multiple toppings, seasonings, spices etc and they even have desert fries! I checked this place out for the first time today and it lived up to the hype I heard. I'm not sure how it's been there so long but I had never heard of it before! Fries are great, no doubt. My issue is the size and the price. I wish there was a smaller size you could order at a lower price point, because they are expensive. Especially when you'd like to try multiple flavors. That's about all I can say for now. Fries tasted like dollar store fries that were fried, left out to cool, then refried. Bland, and very expensive. Not much was put on them in terms of toppings. If you include a tip, almost $16! They have a good amount of options to choose from and the service is always fast because there is usually only one person manning it sometimes two, but orders are made and usually ready in no longer than 10 minutes! Stopped at the Johnston location with my wife and son. The lady at the counter was very friendly. My wife and I shared the miss potato head fries (sour cream,bacon,cheddar and scallions), and my son had the cluckin hot mess (crispy chicken,Buffalo sauce and blue cheese). They were both excellent. These fries are freaking GOOD. Ever crave fries so badly that you don't even care what they taste like? Because I don't. I am picky. If I am going to eat fries, it's only worth it if they're warm, crispy on the outside, and thick with potato on the inside (unlike embarrassingly skinny fries that shouldn't even be called fries). These do the trick. There are plenty of options to choose from, but they really make a killer fry worth eating without anything extra. This is important because it means they don't disguise the taste with anything. Good price for the amount of fries (enough to split between 2 people but not too much to make it ridiculous if you devour a whole order on your own). Friskie's poutine puts other American attempts to shame! First of all, they do it right, using real cheese curds. The gravy is so brown that I nearly just spelled it "bravy"- please don't take that and make it a new portmanteau food fad, bougie chefs! The fries aren't sweet like traditional poutine fries, but the potatoes Friskie uses are still just fine and the fries have a good crunch to them. I prefer to eat the first few fries off the top and mix the rest up so the cheese melts in with the gravy, but do what you like! While I've never been to the Friskie Fries establishment, my daughter had been to the Providence location and she's a big fan of all things Fries so I decided to try them. The menu consisted of maybe 10 choices of toppings, (NY System Weiner style, garlic oil and parmisan style, are a couple I remember). I chose the pulled pork with slaw, with a drizzling of barbeque sauce. They were presented in a cute Chinese food container. I told him I was taking them home to eat later so they packaged it with another Chinese container on top to make it easy to carry. I had them about an hour later once home and I must admit they were pretty delicious. The fries were cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and nice and tender on the inside. i've been dying to try friskie fries after seeing a video surface around facebook. and after seeing momos close down and friskie fries plan to open in their spot it made me wanna try them more. boyfriend and i drove to johnston to try them out this past saturday. very small place inside but nonetheless the staff was exceptional and super friendly. i got the alleycat which are fries dressed in garlic, olive oil and parmesan. boyfriend got the cat'l call which had shaved steak with cheddar cheese. so delicious!! the fries were SO crispy! after reading some reviews i was very concerned that the toppings of the fries would only be just that, on the top. my fries were dressed all over. boyfriends was the same but mainly cause we mixed it al around. but even still the give a lot of cheese to mix. they have a lot of different options and i'm definitely excited to try some more! i absolutely love me some good french fries and this place has won me over !! read more

I have been twice. First time was pretty good, second the fries were very overcooked and not very good. I'm hoping that was a one off and I will give it a try again. I've tried Mrs. Potato head and Cluck'n Hot Mess. I really enjoyed the Mrs Potato Head, I added cheese sauce to them. Cluck'n Hot Mess was made well just not something I think I'd get again. I wish they would have more sizes I wanted to try more than one so if you could get a half order that would be nice. Yes, that is exactly what we needed! French fries any which and every which way you could imagine! They did such a good job with their new space, their first and only brick and mortar location. If you didn't already know, they started off as a food truck and let me tell you, at 2am stumbling out of the club the best and only thing more amazing than those dance moves you even surprised yourself with is an order of Poutine from frisky fries! All of that was all fun and games when I was in my 20's and even early 30s but that is not so much the case Anymore. Knowing that I can have these delicious fried concoctions anytime throughout the year is a huge relief. You see, the food truck is normally parked outside of the bar/club and stumbling on over to get your fried fix is ok when you have been dancing and drinking the night away, but parking down the street, running over to the truck, hoping no one you know sees you all while being in your mid 30s is NOT ok. I got the Poutine, delicious freshly fried French fries covered in a rich brown gravy and cheese curds! This is one of the best original versions I have ever had. My family is from northern Maine so I was raised on Poutine, a good back home Poutine is hard to find, but you my friends... you have given me what I needed! First time. Ever since I found out they moved into this location I been looking forward to going to try their Disco Dottie. Poutine. A wondeful tasty dish from our neighbors from the great north. Canada. The service was outstanding. I wish I got her name. Super friendly. Engaging and informative. If you like communal eating elbow to elbow this place is for you. What made things worse was the owner was plopped smack dab in the middle of dining area at the biggest table. Very uncomfortable and wasn't inviting to sit down which I wanted to do. Made worse by such a small layout. Should have copied L+G's layout. Now for the cheese and potatoes. I hope the fries were made on location. They were tremendous. Crispy with pleasant crunch. Properly cooked inside. Very very enjoyable. I would have their fries any time. If the fries are bought I'm staking them out to discover the supplier. Poutine was incredible. Very tasty gravy. Cheese curds could be a bit creamier but very good and were melting nicely. The countainer is a big bust. These dishes need to be served on bigger flater container. The Chinese take out was to deep and difficult to eat from. Biggest problem was no poutine left with more then half of fries still to go. All I wanted was more poutine. A flatter container is an easy fix. At $8.50 this is big issue for me. The dish was also a bit salty at times. I can't wait to go again even if I need to bring my own dish. Food very good. Yikes Friskie Fries Johnston! I went in to get my Poutine Indulgence deliciousness and spent the entire time in there extremely uncomfortable. Usually their fries are good... especially the Disco Dottie. I started off super excited... and then I walked in, went to the counter, and it all went downhill from there. From the beginning, the woman at the counter was kind of annoyed in general (maybe something was going on in her life, who knows... I get it, it happens.) As the other girl was making my fries, a grub hub driver (that clearly didn't speak much English) came to the counter. He held up his phone to show the employee the name on the order (I don't think he knew how to pronounce it). The employee then responded with "I speak to people, not phones". Ummmm... I get you're anti-cell phone, but the poor guy was just trying to be clear by showing you the name. She then felt like she had to explain herself to me. She then went to put an open container (those little checkered ones) inside a brown paper bag. I asked for a take out container so they wouldn't spill and she responded "your killin' me". I organized Friskie Fries to show up at Barrington Little League for opening day. We had them booked in February 3 rd. We advertised they were coming to the kids. We had 400 people there and they called the morning of and cancelled ! One of their competitors who did show up " Championship Melts " saved the day for us. Somebody said that the Friskie Fries people work late and were probably drunk and could not get up. Who knows all I know is they did not show up for opening day little league. How unprofessional. I ordered the alleycat fries, which were supposed to be garlic, Parmesan maybe some aoli forget the exact description. they also charge $.75 extra for special sauces. I asked the woman what European mayonnaise was, she replied that it was mayonnaise mixed with different herbs. When I receive my order all I got was a plastic container filled with mayonnaise, plain ass mayonnaise, like they just filled a container with hellmans or maybe Cains, anyways, no herbs. Also I could see into the truck as the guy ripped open a brown paper bag with frozen french fries and poured them in the fryer. Come on Friskies, you can do better than that!
