Best service at this McDonalds in all of R.I.! The wait time is pretty fast, even late nights when I usually come by. The food is always fresh, no stale old fries or premade burgers. Nathan is the sweetest employee, if there is anything ever wrong about my order he politely helps me out super quick! If they want to STAY in business they need to hire a competent manager ASAP & start with firing all the young ingrates who primarily work the drive-thru. They should be thankful they have gainful employment regardless if it is McDonald's or not. If they are embarrassed and hate this job that much- it's simple- DON'T WORK HERE!!! I just left here but had to come back and get back in the drive thru line as they forgot my sons chocolate milk for his kids meal. I couldn't believe my ears when I was issued a GENUINE apology. They even gave my son 2 chocolate milks to make up for originally forgetting it! Wow! They usually do nothing of the sort here so I was quite impressed. Granted it's a .75 cent drink- it's the thought that counts right?!?! It's a step in the right direction for sure. I go to the restaurant at 10:30 on a Sunday morning and the doors are locked. I get in line at the drive through to ask why that is and the lady yells at me. McDonald's is the bane of my existence but sadly this is my go to place for breakfast should I leave home hungry on my way to work. Right around the block from my office this is the place that tempts me each and every time. They really picked one of the best locations as it's right at a traffic light stop and there's a left turn light going into the place as well as out if you need to take a left back to Atwood Avenue. Really the only excuse you have for not coming here is if you're watching your weight or trying to avoid the long drive thru line. While the line can be long at time, the longest wait I had was about 5 minutes and if your order takes longer than usual with a long line behind you; they'll usually advise you to pull into a waiting spot where someone will bring your order to you. Definitely can't help myself when it comes to the Frappes, the coffee and the hash brown. While I'm not a fan of McDonald's this place makes it hard to give up. Plus occasionally there's a cute girl at the drive thru window who's smile just brightens up my not-a-morning-person days. read more

They took an old one that was previously made probably hours ago and pulled the pickles off and had no choice to leave the melted cheese on. First of all, there was a big line and the people in the back were just talking and twenty minutes later they go to the register and take orders. Then she took my order and my total was supposed to be $5.07 but she charged $8.07 for a happy meal. She was charging me for something else. As I ate lunch here, I heard someone (not sure if it was an employee or a customer) say "No puede," which, in English, means "can't". That's a perfect summary of this McDonald's, which cannot get its act together. I saw a help wanted sign on a door, looking for a maintenance worker. The restaurant is apparently in desperate need of a maintenance man, because when I went to grab some toilet paper, the dispenser nearly fell off the wall. Also, one of the ice machines failed to dispense ice. This location has two drive-through lanes; that fact, plus the restaurant's small size and odd dining room layout, indicate that it is geared more toward drive-up customers. I was dining inside on this day. Although it was the peak of the lunch rush, there was only one person taking orders, and she was struggling (made a mistake on another customer's order). Thankfully, a second worker finally took my order, although she also nearly made a mistake, thinking I wanted fries instead of a soda (I never get McDonald's fries for reasons explained in another review). As I waited for my order, I saw a middle-aged gentleman who I presumed was the manager, making sandwiches and looking rather stressed. He sternly reprimanded an employee across from him, even using hand gestures to make his point. It was highly chaotic back there, sounding like multiple patients coding out in an intensive care unit, there were so many machines endlessly beeping from not being tended to in a timely manner. I received my double Quarter Pounder with cheese, Filet-O-Fish and hot fudge sundae. After pouring myself a large Coke and scanning for a suitable table, I saw a television, but I could not hear any sound from it - instead, all I could hear was the 80s music playing over the ceiling's speakers. I'm not too picky, so it's rare that I send food back, but I got an unpleasant surprise when I opened my Filet-O-Fish: there were black specks on top of the bun, like burnt toast scrapings! Back to the counter I marched and stood, and I'm sure the annoyed expression on my face didn't help the manager's mood. I received another sandwich fairly quickly and resumed my meal. The second Filet-O-Fish looked better, but was on the stale side. Another bummer: the Quarter Pounder was stale also! How do you get stale food when it is supposedly turning over so fast during lunch rush? My 30-minute lunch time was dwindling, so I just ate what I had. The parking lot is cramped, and trying to navigate around the two drive-through lanes in order to exit is hairy; I thought a flatbed tow truck in front of my truck was going to get stuck in the narrow third exit lane. Giving this McDonalds an average rating, because for the most part they are pretty consistent with their food & their service. My only complaint is that I will ask for and pay for sweet and sour sauce, then not receive it. I'll even ask them directly if it's in the bag and they say yes and it won't be, lol. What triggered this review is the experience I had today. I ordered 2x sweet and sour sauces and paid for them. When I was given my food I looked through the bags and of course, no sweet and sour sauce. I waited until the drive through person reopened the window and asked if I needed anything. I said that I needed my S & S sauces and she hastily gave my one and shut the window. I get it...people get stressed...especially during busy times, as it was. Maybe their management should have a better system for these employees to know that S&S belongs with certain orders. Especially because they make you pay for them. read more

I wish you could give zero stars. Just went to this sh*thole of a McDonald's, having placed my order in advance on the app. Was informed that their credit card machines were down. I then said that I ordered and paid on the app, and the cashier said that the computer that receives orders from the app was also down. Um, yeah...ok. I asked her where the next closest 24 hour McDonald's was, and she said "Smithfield or something". I said "fine, guess we have to go there instead". She said, "Ok", and seemed quite pleased with the fact that she wouldn't have to do any actual work. No apology, either, mind you. So we drove all the way out of our way to Lincoln (she was wrong about it being Smithfield, too...) and once there, received THE most burnt, ancient, mummified, yet simultaneously ice freaking cold nuggets I've ever eaten from a McDonald's in my whole 34 years of life, in additon to french fries with zero salt. But that's a story for a different day. Back to the matter of the Johnston location. I was curious to see what others had to say about this flaming garbage heap of a restaurant, and lo and behold, saw multiple people saying the exact same thing I'd encountered: cash only, as well as the app being "down", particularly after 2 am. My conclusion? Something is going on here, for sure. There is NO possible way their credit card machines should be down this often. I am thinking there has to be some sort of theft going on here. And clearly I'm not the only one who thinks this may be the case. I have never once written a Yelp review, but I suppose there is a first time for everything, as I was compelled to do so after this horrid experience. I'll also be getting in touch with corporate tomorrow to let them know that they need to look into the matter of this shady "cash only" situation. Horror customer service, I was trying to use my coupon, by using the app but the guy told me the code was invalid, which made no sense because I haven't used it. He insisted that I have used it already, but I told him I haven't and he smirked like it was funny. I kept telling him I haven't used it and if he could do something and he said no. I know it's only fast food but, my husband and I ordered breakfast items at 11pm, waited in line for 25 minutes, (fast food) received 2 orders of hot cakes with no syrup or butter, hash browns paid for, were also not in the bag. One girl with headphones seemed to be doing everything alone, while another female employee was on her phone texting in the background, another was outside talking to a boy.
