He's earned a special treat for the awards in school. We bought the tickets for a day pass. Luckily I had cash because the booth was not accepting any other form of payment. Everything was copacetic until the return trip and it brought back memories when I rode the bus in the greater Los Angeles area. Waaaay back, when it was the RTD (now the MTA). My friends & I called it Rough, Tough & Dirty because.....it was. Milo was oblivious to the cab surroundings, just looking out & enjoying the ride. All the while I was not breathing through my nose, trying not to touch anything. Folks, I felt like I needed a nice, long cleansing/disinfecting shower thereafter. Thankfully we were not accosted. Our journey lasted about a good 10-12 minutes. As long as Milo was a happy camper, our journey was complete. The wait for each way didn't take more than 10 minutes in total.

Fortunately these days we have a decent mass transit system in the Dallas area and most of the big metro areas like Houston. However, Texas is a car culture on steroids and I'll admit I don't use mass transit that often. Usually when I do it's to travel to the State Fair close to downtown(highly recommended). I can say from experience after riding the system many times, it works, I'm glad we have it and hope its expansion continues. Until then, ill continue using Parker Station to hop on the train.

We looked forward to our mini vacation and even booked a First Class bedroom on the train. The previous month we had booked an amtrak roomette and enjoyed it so much we decided to do it again this month on a longer route with a bigger room. During that train ride, we had excellent service in first Class ! The attendants were awesome ! They were very friendly, attentive, and happy to see ya ! This recent journey, however, wasn't even on par. Sadly because we had expectations of an awesome experience again but it wasn't even close. I will say though, in everyone else's defense, it was really only 1 person that made the trip so miserable; Jan, the lead attendant in the First Class dining car. She was not happy. Not nice. Talked down to you if you accidentally did something wrong that went against her routine. Just not polite at all. Ever. She had a cutting , condescending demeanor toward not only the passengers but her fellow co worker working underneath her as well. Everything was done like roll call. Very routine and very strict very impersonal. No pleasure in her voice at all whether making announcements or talking to you directly. Not a good experience for us as far as dining goes. Our room attendant, on the other hand, was wonderful, and expressed care for her passengers. She was very attentive and a very sweet personality. In the end, this experience set us back a little bit with Amtrak. First Class rooms are too expensive to endure the treatment we received from her 3 times daily at mealtime. Something which should be pleasurable. I do not wish anyone the misfortune to get her as their dinning car attendant. I'm not sure if and when we will travel with Amtrak again.

I have taken Amtrak several times between Austin and Dallas but last week I was tired of airports…read moreand airplanes and being amongst the great unwashed so on this journey from Dallas to Austin, I upgraded to a roomette and I was not disappointed. When it was time to board the Texas Eagle, the Cafe Car Manager summoned the passengers traveling in the Sleeper Car and took our lunch orders, then I boarded the train. My roomette was very comfy cozy.  Shortly after the train departed from the Eddie Bernice Johnson Union Station, the Personal Room Attendant brought my lunch to my roomette which was the Beef Burgundy with a roll, butter and chips, and Vanilla Pudding. A salad was unavailable. Unfortunately, beverages with authority are not included with meals so I ordered a Gin & Tonic, for digestive purposes, after my delightful lunch. I was about to take a power nap when the Cafe Car Manager arrived to take my dinner order. I was quite refreshed after my power nap, enjoying the views when my Chicken Parmesan arrived with a salad, roll, butter and Vanilla Pudding. I paired everything with a nice chilled bottle of Chardonnay.  I thoroughly enjoyed my journey in the Sleeper Car and this will not be my last time traveling in the comfort of a roomette. The roomette does not have a private toilet but the car has toilets that are kept clean and tidy by the attendant. Also the car has a decent sized shower and towels are provided.
