I don't write reviews but this has been on my mind for the past 2 months. I came in here last January for a retouch of a balayage, cut and bangs. My hair was pretty long and the hair color I had was a bronde, once I left the salon my hair was orange spotty and bright "blonde". My bangs were BOTCHED, they were up to the middle of my forehead and my layers were so uneven. I was there for 7 hours, that the front desk even offered to buy me a snack. The young lady that did my hair seemed very unexperienced and had to call others to help out and advise her on how to do my hair. I paid $350+ and still tipped because it was 7 hours of the girl working. After I went home and cried I called the next day and the owner called me to come back in and let her expert fix it for free, Carmen. Carmen then toned my hair down and basically reversed everything the other girl did where I spent my whole day in the salon. She then took a look at my hair cut and nodded her head in disbelief. She cut my bangs to "even" them out and they were 10x worse and so short. I instantly cried in the car and did not know what to do. I messaged her asking for any advice on the bangs! I couldn't style them or push them back NOTHING. She told me to wait and there's nothing I can do. I felt like I trusted her since she brought my hair from ORANGE to the origami color I had. I come back 3 months later because I am loyal and I know mistakes happen, I too work in the beauty field. I go in for my tone and cut with Carmen and was not told a price or anything. The tone looked the same exact thing NOTHING changed it still looked the same exact color and the cut took exactly 2 mins as she was chatting with other people. I am very anxious about my hair because I only had bad experiences here. When I told her she said it's the lighting, I believed her. She asked if I wanted a blow out and I said no thank you because I was going on a run after. She said okay and when it was time to pay in the front she tells me my total is $200! I was in complete shock! I've paid $115 in LA for a Top Salon for a Glaze and Cut, it didn't make sense to me. I asked Carmen for a break down of the price and she was weird about it, I then asked for a receipt and she said she wasn't a receptionist so she didn't know how to print it out. I stayed until she figured it out and saw a 2 min haircut by her was $90! And she charged me for a cut and blow out which is $105 I am assuming? She also mentioned they always charge for blowouts even if you don't want one, this was shocking for me. I payed the $200 and was left in disbelief because out of every time I have came in it's been nothing but a bad experience and this was my last straw to giving them a chance. It was always very fake/happy energy and she gave me her Zelle info for TIP as I was leaving. It took her 15-20 mins to complete the whole $200 service. The salon is always empty and the prices compared to the quality of job they do is not correlating. I understand everything and everyone has a price based on their own skills and expertise but I do NOT recommend this salon. This wasn't my first time getting let down and I never wrote a view. The only reason I am writing this is because I came to a 5 star hair salon in Montclair NJ and I told them my previous experience and they said my hair looks like it hasn't been cut in months! Although I just got my hair cut a month prior, so devastating. They also said the layers were super uneven and the color is washed out to the max. I was completely let down and hurt by all this. The first two pictures were my hair BEFORE ENTERING THE SALON. The last pictures were the after, horrible. Reached out to get the exact cost of a service since the last time I was there I had been charged a ridiculous amount for what I got-9 minute single process and toner. I didn't even need the blow dry I was charged $170. When I reached out for a clear amount for a regular single process via text I was sent a price list. Since no where on their website do they provide the employees level and the prices are according to their level it didn't help me. So I texted back and asked for the total it would be. I got a message back saying someone would reach out to me. I never received any communication. I emailed, no response. When looking at the highest level stylist and compared the price to what my service was, it's clear I was overcharged and the stylist who rang me up knew she was overcharging me. $170 plus tip for her and a assistant. Over $200 total for a single process. Had the same service other times and that was not the cost. And why the assistant , the place was empty as it always is. I booked with a stylist not assistant It's a shame they rather overcharge, not respond to service inquiries or communication. I would have let the issue go if they just responded to my request. This is price gouging. Stay away. I have had several people tell me they don't get a response when they reach out. I am going to take this up with my credit card. I can tell you, a high end salon that gives high end services is cheaper and their business is ran top notch. Going back. Only came here for Sunday hours. Not worth it. read more

I've been going to Jacqueline at Fringe since 2013. I love her shop, the staff is extremely friendly. The place is spotless and they are very careful during COVID. Today I went in to get my hair colored and Jacqueline said to me- we have a new Milkshake color product. It only takes 9 minutes, would you want to try it, it's only $5 right right now as a promotion to introduce it to our customers. I said oh hell yes I want to try it, I hate sitting for 30-40 minutes for hair color to take to my gray. Well, it was amazing, the color is so vibrant and it made my hair so soft. I would highly recommend this to anyone who hates sitting & waiting for that timer to go off. Been going here for a year to get my lashes done. Mel was great in the beginning now she does a sub par job and they raised the prices. Jacquelene (sp) saw me same day and saved me from myself! Gave my short hair a much needed trim and provided great conversation. She's the owner and made the time for me and I appreciate that. I came back a week later for color/highlights and it was the greatest color I've ever gotten and I've been having my hair colored for over 15 years. She has a vision and more importantly knows exactly how to execute it. I only give it 4 stars are its very cramped in that space. They're a very busy salon and only have two sinks but they mentioned they were working on getting the upstairs up and running so that should get better. It just makes for a longer visit due to waiting for an opening to get washed. Will happily update to 5 stars when I see more sinks! read more

I live in the area and saw that this salon had very solid reviews and affordable prices, so I decided to book my first hair appt in roughly a year. The salon is located on a bustling street in Nutley, NJ and the layout of the salon is very open and clean. I like that while you wait for your appointment, you can browse clothes and items that are for sale. I found some very cute pieces that I was tempted to buy, but then I was led to sit and wait for my colorist/stylist. Brianna greeted me with tons of enthusiasm and a clear passion for all things hair. I knew I was in good hands and she explained what process she would use to color my hair and what color would be achieved with a single process. I trusted her completely. She continued to offer great conversation as she began to paint my hair. Once all was said and done, she washed and blow dried my hair into perfection. I can't recommend Brianna enough. Not only does she have a warm presence that feels like you're with an old friend, but she is beyond professional and very talented with the art of hair color. I went here on a Living Social deal- $59 for a shampoo, condition, hair cut, single process color and blowout plus a manicure and eyebrow wax. I had purchased the deal in August when I needed it for an upcoming wedding and when I was still looking for a permanent salon in this area. But they were too booked up at that time to take me in so I just went last week to pamper myself before my birthday. The salon is easy to miss when driving by so keep an eye out for it. They don't have a parking lot of their own and they're next to an out of business gas station on the corner. Later I was told by the stylist that they park their cars there and it's ok for clients to do so also. There's also an auto body shop on the other side of them with a huge parking lot and it's ok to park there as well. The interior of the salon is small but it's decorated in warm colors and looks like what you would expect from a hair salon. There is something about most hair salons that feels like a sorority to me. This is perhaps the reason I had such a hard time finding a good salon in North Jersey. Some examples of what I mean: *An old woman needed water for her tea. Granted, the way she asked the stylist for it by simply grunting "water" was pretty funny and kind of rude. But the way the stylist and all her fellow colleagues rolled their eyes at her behind her back and continued to make fun of her long after the incident was over was unprofessional. After all, if you're talking about her like that who's to say you're not talking about me like that after I leave? None of the stylists were overly interested in chatting up their clients either, which can make for a dull experience. *As I sat with my nails under the dryer facing the back wall, the door to the stockroom/break room was open and a bunch of stylists were in there eating, BSing and coloring each others hair. Nothing wrong with any of that, but keep the door closed. It looks unprofessional and it's not something the clients need to see. *All of the stylists were running around the salon the entire time I was there with foil in their hair, checking each others color. In between painting my nails and waxing my eyebrows, one stylist got on her cell phone (in the middle of the salon) and starting talking to who I assume was her boyfriend about how she just had to finish waxing a client and then she'd be leaving. That kind of conversation is best saved for the break room or outside the salon. Now I feel like you can't wait to get me out of here. This would have annoyed me more if I wasn't there on an amazing package deal. My overall experience here wasn't bad but I probably wouldn't make this my regular salon because of little things like I described above. If I'm going to pay an exorbitant amount of money to get pampered, everyone around me should be acting professionally and grateful that I've chosen this salon over all others to spend my time and money- at least that's how I look at it. Actual results: Shampoo/Condition/Haircut/Color/Blowout- I'd give 3 stars. Nothing stellar but nothing to complain about either. Nails- 4 stars. Maybe it's because I sat under the nail dryer for an unusually long time but I'm going on day 4 and my manicure still has minimal chipping. Eyebrows- 3 stars. She did a nice job shaping them but I had to do some follow up plucking of stray hairs the next day. read more

I have been going to this salon for years, first with Ashlee, then Daniella after Ashlee moved away. I had an apppintment last week that I cancelled the day of because my brother died the night before. I called back to reschedule and the manager told me that I would have to leave a credit card that would be charged half of the appointment cost if I cancelled again with less than 24 hrs notice. REALLY?!! I have never cancelled an appointment here before. I told them that my brother died! Did you want me to come in and sit in the chair crying for 3 hours while I got my hair done? The salon was empty when I came in and they were attentive to get me started right away. Was offered wine and accepted it gratefully! The color came out perfect! Cut was a simple trim of what I had and the blow out was excellent. Salon is bright and clean with nice basic decor. Regular pricing for these services is reasonable. I would come back. Just got home from a great first time experience and felt compelled to write my first review. I booked an appointment after buying a Groupon for eyelash extensions. Never got them before so I wasn't sure what to expect, plus some places treat you like a second class citizen for using a groupon. It's a cute little salon, warm and friendly, although zero yelp stars to Googlemaps for telling me to make a left when it is clearly a right onto the street. Jacquelene is extremely sweet, personable, and painstakingly good at what she does. We discussed the possibility of going over the Groupon lash limit and paying the difference, which I agreed to, and she chose not to overdo it, which shows a lot of integrity on her part. I did end up buying the lash aftercare kit, but she was not pushy about that. They offer complimentary wine and mimosas, which REALLY helps when you're laying with your eyelashes stuck down while someone messes with your eyes for two hours. Non-cliquey group of women - you don't feel like you're entering a sorority house. Already booked my next appointment. Overall, a great experience. read more

The owner, Jackie knew I've had bad experiences with hair salons and told me repeatedly I was in great hands and she promised me I'd be happy. I didn't get the color I wanted I asked for a milky brown and I ended up blonde and she charged me for a toner to darken it when it was originally her mistake for lightning my hair. Two days ago after work, I decided to give the salon where I normally get my hair cut a chance with coloring my hair. It was a mistake. I asked for baliage highlights and was given foil highlights about an inch from my roots. Sections were botched up and the color was too light for my natural base color. I was not happy with the results. I got an appointment with Daniela this afternoon for a color correction. She was great at listening to my issues, examining what happened and was clearly able to explain what she could do to fix it. She gave me a fair estimate before she started which luckily got reduced even further after she was able to go through my hair and see what actually needed to be done. She was also very good and communicating the entire time what she was doing, why, what she was going to do next, how long it would take, etc. I really appreciated it, especially after the bad experience I had two days ago elsewhere. I would have wanted to stay with the lighter color but I think she knew better and went for a darker, cinnamon shade that I think will be for the best. The glaze will lighten over time and I can monitor to determine later if I really do want to go lighter. She was able to give me what I was looking for, I'm very happy with the results and more importantly, I now have a local colorist whom I can trust -- that's priceless. Looking forward to continue to work with Daniela on my hair color needs. read more

I found Fringe through Groupon. I was really in need of a haircut, Groupon had a deal for Fringe, it was a wash and cut, full highlights and glaze for $89. I had Ashley do my color, I showed her a picture of my previous highlights and told her I wanted blonde highlights, but didn't want them to look outrageous, but subtle. She did a wonderful job with the color, exactly what I wanted. Leah cut my hair, I showed her a picture of a previous hairstyle and explained that I didn't want an identical cut, but wanted side bangs and layers. Leah did a fantastic job with my hair, she cut off enough so I could still pull it back when I workout, the layers look great too. The salon felt very cozy, they have been there for 5 years, you can tell they really care about their customers with how friendly they are with everyone that walks in the door. They also had bagels, muffins, coffee and tea for everyone, which I thought was a nice touch. The only have 3 complaints. 1) I knew this before, but there is not much parking. I didn't know that I could park in the Auto Shop's parking next door. I parked across the street by the TD Bank, which I fine I don't mind walking. Normally the parking is 2 hours only, but I was there on a Saturday so that didn't apply. 2) I know the shampoo girl was having a bad day, which I totally understand, but my back got wet when being shampooed. Since the weather has been about 20 degrees, I was a bit chilly, but Leah dried my back with a hair dryer. 3) It would be a lot more convenient if their prices were listed on their website so I can decide what I want to get done on future visits. All in all I was looking for a hair salon to get my hair done and I found it. I will definitely be coming back again :) read more

I really tried to give this place a shot bc it is super close to my house and decent prices, but they just don't do a good job. I've been there three times and all three times I have been disappointed. Tried haircut, tried highlights and an updo recently. The haircut was the most decent. Highlights were horrible, left a huge chunk of hair not colored looked horrible had to get it redone somewhere else. The updo was nothing like I showed the pictures. I asked her to correct it and finally just changed it when I got home bc didn't have time to sit there anymore. All of the times the ladies were nice, but I feel like almost too nice. Too much talking, over sharing their personal life stories, and not enough focus on what they are supposed to be doing. They just don't have the skill set to deliver. Living in Hoboken, it's hard to find good, quality salons where the technicians aren't rushing through, cutting corners and using cheap products. After I lot of online searching I found Fringe. I live in the area and decided I should check out this place, since I needed a trim that was long overdue..I enter (I had an appointment) and ask for a short hair cut and an under-shave, they ended up telling me that nobody in the salon could do that for me so I just stuck with a short hair cut (my hair was a little past the shoulders before the cut). The cut cost me 50 dollars!!! FOR NOT MORE THAN ONE INCH AND HALF OF HAIR!!! They told me the price included the price of the haircut and a blow out, BUT I passed on the blowout because I have curly hair that I did not want to have any heat damage on it. The ONLY reason I'm leaving two stars is because the hairdresser that cut my hair was very sweet and she put in two products aimed for curly hair that was thoughtful (but just made my curls flat). Now I go to Rutherford for my cut and it's only 20 dollars, so IN MY OPINION, they need to revise their pricing here. read more

I went to Fringe because I received a certificate for a free haircut. The experience was terrible !!!!!!! the girls did not pay attention to their customers but rather to each other. Ashley was more concerned about speaking to the other girls and the guy that was talking to her instead of paying attention to cutting my hair. I hated the way it came out and she never reassured me throughout the cut what she was doing. I felt completely ignored like I was disutrbing her and was totally upset about my hair when I left. The place was unprofessional and does not cater to their clients nor do they make their clients feel confident or special. read more
