Here's what my sandwich ejaculated all over the wrapper as I was eating it. Artless slop.

In a city full of disappointing options, this place disappointed me more than most. I've had their cold cut sandwiches before, they are OK. Today I thought I'd mix it up with a Nicks Spicy Pollo, a hot grilled chicken sandwich. What a disaster. They microwaved the not grilled chicken breast until it was dry and stringy and hard to eat. The sandwich was flooded with some kind of dripping sauce that kept squirting out with every bite. I probably ruined a shirt after my first bite and I know I ruined my appetite because I will never order this sandwich again and I probably won't be coming back here for a very long time - until I'm extremely desperate. Which frankly in this shit hole of a food town, desperation comes regularly when you are confronted with the stunning mediocrity of every restaurant here.

The line out the door doesn't lie! This place is a gem and should not be missed. It's got the old school vibe and decor. So many prepared food options and yummy grocery items. The star of the show is the sandwiches - so packed with meat and flavor and perfectly customizable to your tastes.

5 stars might be an understatement. When my boyfriend lived in Springfield, we'd come to Frigos on almost every one of my visits to town. Their sandwiches are all fantastic, the prepared food is fresh and their groceries are like taking a mini vacation to Italy. I love how authentic it feels in there. On our drive from Jersey to New Hampshire, we were going right through Springfield around lunch time and there was no question where we'd be picking up a food for the road. They have a parking lot right behind the and masks were worn by everyone. Also, guests in line were very respectful of keeping a distance. On this particular pitstop I just got a couple sandwiches but they were amazing, just like they always are! I got a turkey sandwich with all of the veggies on a roll and YUM. Nothing like a good deli sandwich. If you are driving through the area, from the area, whatever, this is a good place to get lunch and some dried pasta for later.

I just enjoyed a very delicious grinder from here. We ordered both the ultimate veggie sandwich and also a tuna grinder with lettuce, tomato, pickle, and red peppers; excellent! Also got some to go stuff for the family like a piece of their veg lasagna and a grilled chicken salad for my brother. Everything came out super reasonably priced. They had just gotten a shipment of really delicious olive oil from Sicily, and we were able to try some and it was incredible. Workers were so nice and easy to talk to, we were there for a while just chatting. What a hidden gem!!! I can't wait to go back.

For a deli that seeming has a good reputation the sandwich I ordered should be considered an embarrassment by any self respecting grinder shop. Doughy, bland hero roll with hardly any meat (this is definitely not Katz's deli). Mead and cheese microwaved then put on bread with barely a trace of kraut. I guess it's an error to order non Italian hero in an obviously Italian deli but subway does better than this. Oh, there's no restroom for paying customers either.

Roast beef sandwich

I ordered a sandwich online since I work nearby. The place is an old school deli. There wasn't an obvious place to pick up my food so I had to wait in line; Kind of defeats the purpose of pre-ordering. When I got back to the office I noticed the pickle which I paid an extra $2 for wasn't included. No napkins in the bag either. The sandwich was loaded in sauce. Not sure what the guy who made it was thinking. Plenty of good food in downtown Springfield. I would recommend skipping Frigo's.

Loved the chicken Parmesan so I got a classic Italian for later and it was just as good! Recommend!

Blake House Café - The Brazil - smoked version of the classic Cuban (smoked ham, pulled pork, banana peppers, Swiss cheese, mustard aioli on Portuguese roll)

Smoked brings the real deal: ribs, brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, mac & cheese, collard greens, and other Southern comfort food that's so not what I was expecting in the way of typical cafeteria fare. We ordered the Brazil sandwich (smoked Cuban), all hail Caesar salad with chicken, and a large fries. The food took its sweet time arriving but was worth the wait. The Cuban was delicious, as was the flavorful bbq chicken that topped the salad, although I wish I'd gotten dressing on the side as the salad was overdoused. Fries are the best kind of fries I like, with that extra crispy and blistered seasoned coating yet hot and pillowy on the inside. It's a homey operation and Chef Bruce B. Williams Jr. was out there personally manning the counter and kitchen. You don't have to be a museum visitor to eat there, but 5 stars for being a casual cafe with good eats I would actually leave the complex for, and am glad I didn't have to.

Cute little shop with a ton of Italian foods of all descriptions. Stood at the deli counter for a little while before one of the three people working behind the counter actually noticed my 6'4" 300 plus pound frame. Even though there was only one other person besides me being helped. I was excited to see that they had homemade salami on the menu so I decided to get a whole grinder. The young lady who was helping me seemed somewhat bothered that she had to wait on me. I ordered my grinder and made a quick change to it BEFORE she started making it and her disappointment was very apparent with her body language. Whatever, it was quite humerus actually. That kind of thing doesn't really bother me. Also picked up some sausage, antipasto salad, etc as well. As far as the grinder goes the homemade salami was delicious and an excellent choice. The grinder roll is massive which is what I think people are so hypnotized with when they mention the Pajers grinders are "huge". Don't get me wrong, there was plenty of meat but its large size is mostly due to the massive roll. Still, it was worth the $18 in my opinion. Cash only, so be aware of that. If you're in the area it's worth stopping by, not too sure I'd drive too far out of the way to stop in there though. Also, be prepared for some potential "spicy" customer service. Perhaps they treat their regular customers better, who knows?
