Cold cuts, cheeses, meatballs, sausages, salads, side dishes, fish, chicken, meat and pasta entrees as good a variety of yumminess I have seen anywhere. And its a bakery. And it's a grocery store. OMG! I have been wanting to visit Frigo Gourmet Foods for years. Well today I did and the visit did not disappoint. I asked the counter worker what grinder he'd recommend, since this was our first visit. Being our first visit he provided a wealth of information about the foods, what some of services and catering. My wife and I not only picked up lunch (more on that below) but we picked up a weeks worth of meals for a incredibly reasonable amount. We have a veritable sampling of their menu to go into the fridge tonight. On to lunch- My wife had one their stuffed peppers. It was huge, perfectly cooked, and on a five point scale scored a solid ten. As to the recommended grinder, I had the Italian, dirty style which a spicy pepper relish is added. It brought the heat for sure. The bread was half a loaf of Italian that was the perfect and necessary platform to hold all the meats, cheeses and pepper relish, nicely dress with oil and vinegar. In addition to fine food and over the top outstanding service, they had a variety cheese, wine, and olive oil samples to further promote some of the unique items for sale. Everywhere you look there was something that catches your eye. Gift baskets, Italian grocery items, pastries, even antique registers in the windows, an old telephone both. The store's atmosphere was intoxicating to the senses. Seriously if you are in downtown Springfield a visit to Frigo needs to be on your list. I have always enjoyed the food, but the actual store made me fall in love with this business. It has a giant deli type place with tons of sandwiches and other pre-made items. I can't believe it took me two years of working in Springfield to finally make it to Frigo. I stopped by for lunch with a couple coworkers last week and everything we had was delicious. Two of us had the italian sandwich and others had combinations of their hot items. I loved my sandwich and debated saving it because it was a good portion, but I couldn't resist the temptation. I also got cannolis because good ones have been hard to come by in this area, and they did not disappoint. Can't compare with ones that I have had in Boston, but definitely one of the best in the Springfield/Hartford area. If I ever have a long enough lunch break again, I will definitely be back! read more

My boyfriend raves about Frigo's on a regular basis, so during my trip we made a point to visit for lunch. He seriously loves this place, hence the 4/5 stars. The seating is limited and a little bit uncomfortable to eat, especially with 2 monstrous sandwiches, dessert and drinks on the table. What We Got: he ordered his "usual", a 8" half-Vienna sized Chicken Parmesan sandwich, while I ordered a half-Vienna sized Eggplant Parmesan ($6). Another reviewer mentioned that the eggplant parm doesn't quite taste right, and I agree. It tasted rather bland to me, which eggplant will do if not adequately seasoned. I ate a little less than half my sandwich, but then again, Jamie was only able to eat half of his too (he saves his for another meal). Very large portions. We also ordered a cannoli ($2.50 each) to share and a peanut butter cup ($2). The cannoli was tasty, but the filling was a bit too sweet and the shell tasted strongly of cinnamon or a similar spice. I also purchased a jar of artichoke tapenade for ~$5, which I added to my sandwich. There's tons to look at, taste, and purchase from Frigo's. I think the eggplant parmesan sandwich is a bust (based on my experience and another reviewer's) but would be MORE than happy to return and find a new favorite. I can't believe I've been in Springfield almost my whole life and haven't been here!!! Talk about authentic, delicious Italian food! I ordered The Dante grinder (turkey, prosciutto, roasted red peppers, asagio cheese, and a bit of mayo) and it was amazing! The bread really made the sandwich though. Honestly I'll probably be back there tomorrow just to buy that bread. It's so much more than grinders though. They've got dinners, a HUGE food case with things like lasagna, chicken Marsala, all types of salad, even chicken and bacon Mac and cheese. Which I really should have gotten. The servings are extremely generous and the prices are incredible for the quality of food you're getting. I paid 7.95 for my 8 inch sandwich which can I guess seem like a lot (at least more than subway), but quality quality quality! I've included a photo so you can see how much meat was on it. They also have a grocery side of authentic Italian groceries. Again, the prices are a tad higher than say Big Y, but it's totally worth it. read more

A friend had been raving about all the food here and she finally brought me here for lunch. Boy was she not exaggerating. It is a little market deli that makes fresh sandwiches and premade pastas, salads, and cooked meats. I got cheese ravioli with butternut squash and also an order of coconut shrimp. They were both so delicious. Some of the best pasta I've ever tried. The sandwiches looked really delicious too and I'll absolutely be there again to try it. Frigo always gets a 5 star from us - with such amazing and fresh ingredients to EXTREMELY reasonable prices considering the portion size. We come here as often as we can (it's a bit of a trek) to get sandwiches and we are never disappointed! We have tried a few different items on their list, as well as some of their pre-made salads. Never have we been disappointed, and the large sandwiches we can always eat for 2 meals. Frigo is one of the best Italian delis in the area, and a must-visit. Tucked in downtown Springfield, parking can be a little bit of a challenge during the busy lunch hour. I've always found street parking if necessary, but know that if you're coming around lunch you'll have a wait. That said, the wait is totally worth it. Frigo has a variety of sandwich options along with a number of great prepared foods. Their chicken cutlet is outstanding, as are so many of their other sandwiches. In terms of the prepared foods, the broccoli rabe is always great, and I've purchased some delicious arancini from here as well. With one stop you can grab lunch and have a meal ready-to-go for dinner. It doesn't get any better than that. The staff is always friendly and helpful, even in the super busy lunch hour. They have no clue what they are doing. I tried to order catering and they could not get the order correct even with me spelling it out for them several times. I orders a platter that said $125 on their website. They quoted me $700. I spoke to the manager who couldn't find the platter On their own website. I called their other location. They asked Me to call back later because they were busy. When I eventually spoke to someone, she told me that they didn't have the ingredients that they offer on their own website. Maybe their good for a drop in and a sandwich, but I would not recommend them for catering. read more
